    Calzaghe is right up there with the best fighters of the late 90's to early 2,000's, his totally flawless career record tells you how good Joe was. Unfortunately for him, I don't think he got the recognition he deserves.
    He was a top quality boxer and a proper nice bloke as well.

      @greenfields1221 you've totally missed the point I said calzaghe wouldn't rematch Reid which is facts and wouldn't defend against Froch which is facts I never went into careers and common opponents as I'm sure your aware that he beat him so he would beat him obviously wouldn't determine the outcome of any fight unless you're a clueless casual no offence

    • @rmc4091
      @rmc4091 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @greenfields1221 it is what it is it never happened but JC was the type of fighter to stay comfortable the wbo in those days ment very little to the top fighters they all wanted the wba.wbc.ibf belts the wbo champion was never rated like the big 3 and Joe's 1st 18 or so world title fights were all wbo and he stayed most of the time in wales/Britain knowing that none of the top Americans at the times wasn't bothered about the wbo so travelling to Britain to challenge for it wasn't attractive some say he was hiding in Wales if you remember Peter manfreado got a shot at Joe's belt if that was nowadays Peter manfreado would be jake Paul's level but calzaghe fans never mention that so Peter manfreado getting a shot at calzaghes belt was credible? But froch not a credible challenger?

    • @rmc4091
      @rmc4091 ปีที่แล้ว

      @greenfields1221 I don't mean former world champions on his record,,, I mean he only held the wbo for his 1st 18 or so world title fights and also he only won ring magazine belt at light heavyweight not a wbc wba ibf or even a wbo

      tutti credono che Reid odia Calzaghe, perchè? Comunque per quanto riguarda la gara Reid ottimo potere nei colpi, ma le mancava complessità nell'algoritmo di attacco, le mancava dinamicità,pe run pugile avere quelle basi è ottimo ma se ti manca quell'intelligenza pugilistica che poi nel calcio e ciò che vediamo ad esempio nei calciatori di fantasia,avere quelle qualità è più importante della stessa potenza secondo me,sarebbe stato bello vedere un Calzaghe con la potenza di Reid, un unione tra i due, sarebbe uscito fuori un pugile da sogno, anche se Calzaghe lo è stato eh! non metto certo in dubbio ciò che ha dimostrato di essere!

    That was a great fight. I think many of Calzaghe's punches do more damage than they look like they're doing; Reid's face was evidence of that. Reid hits hard, but Calzaghe could take whatever was thrown at him.

    • @geekverve
      @geekverve 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. The announcers kept talking about Calzaghe's punches hitting gloves, but I saw a lot of them getting through. They always pointed out when Reid landed a big one, but always seemed to miss it when Joe got one in. Looking at Reid's face, you can't deny Joe did some damage over the course of the fight.

    Ref was way too lenient on Reid he should've penalized him earlier and continued to do so the more he used dirty tactics. Reid did that because of his frustration due to Joes speed mostly, plus Joe outwitted Reid over all and that caused him to have control of the fight. in spite of all that Reid dug down deep and turned it into a slug fest and picked up the pace and it become a brawl and the fans got what they wanted a great fight.

      I couldn't give it to Reid, he didn't win enough rounds though I would give him a bare minimum of three. There were probably a couple of drawn rounds but Calzaghe was a decisive winner of more than Reid who went to sleep a bit in the sixth and seventh immediately after having a strong fifth. When I say went to sleep, Reid barely threw a punch in those rounds.

    Didn’t look like a 5 point gap in either direction. Good scrap. Pretty close. Maybe 2 point gap to JC.

    Reid fought remarkably well in this particular bout. I think a draw was the correct or at least a fairer outcome.

  • @bampie1
    @bampie1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The referee should have taken points off Reid in most of the rounds. Headbutting, punching on the break, punching the back of the head and punching after the bell.

    The best fighter ever to grace a ring is Salvador Sanchez. Had the best engine of anyone, fought at same pace in round 15 than he did in round one, never was shook, granite chin, superb moving forward as he was going backwards, sublime footwork, could bang with both hands, would slip punches at ease, had every shot in the book, had the same compure for every minute of every round, never once flustered, amazing hand speed, awesome jab, no fighter ever has come close to him and bare in mind he was just 21 when he died, boxers are in their prime come age 27. Toney one of best ever who neglected the gym and his weight said sanchez is the best as did Roy Jones, no more needed to be said.

    The crowd were mostly Robins. They 'ooed and aaed' when he landed the rights, but were mainly silent when Calzaghe had success. All said and done. - a great tussle between two great Brits.

    Had Calzaghe winning by 2 points with a couple of drawn rounds and the point deduction for Reid.
    No way did Reid win and certainly not by 9 rounds to 3 like the British Judge scored it.

    I think Calzaghe was shocked just how good Reid was. Some fantastic right hands by Reid. I gave rounds 5 and 6 to Reid, the last round equal and the other nine rounds to Calzaghe. Terrible use of the head by Reid and some low blows that weren't picked up on. Reids face at the end sums it up really he lost.

    I love this boxer Joe . He was amazing to watch and a class act ! Yes, I would have wanted to see him beat Reid in a rematch.. REID WAS A DIRTY FIGHTER. He deserved a severe ass whooping by Joe Calzaghe. I hated that Joe gave Robin too much respect during and after the fight. Reid hit Calzaghe with a vicious sneaky punch, a low blow to the groin, many rapid punches to the kidneys and hitting before & after the breaks. Reid should have been penalized on these numerous accounts. Reid knew what he was doing! He didn't deserve a rematch with Joe. I wish Joe would have shown Reid that he was pissed about being dirty and disrespectful. If I was in Joe's shoes, I would have told Reid to consider himself lucky because the time we meet maybe fatal !😮

    This fight was a joke. Reid is a dirty fighter and this contest deserved a disqualification for so many reasons. Repeated headbutts, low blows, punches after bell, after ref said stop. So many warnings that should have been points taken.

    This was actually tactically one of Joe's worst performances. Some seem to think Reid figured out Joe. In reality Reid didn't do anything special here.
    Joe kept getting drawn in and suckered with that overhand right over and over all night. It was the only good punch Reid was landing. Joe's trademark is being able to adjust during the fight, but here he failed to do that.

    This Robin Reid would have been much harder for Carl Froch. Joe handled over hand rights before, but Robin had good success with them tonight. Still, Joe easily won.

    Are any southpaws right handed writers ? I ask because many lefty snooker players use the rest in the same manner as a right handed person, i.e., holding the cue in their right hand, and I've often wondered if any of them also hold a pen that way.

    Great fight. They punched it out even in the 12th round. However; Robin Reid threw some very dirty punches. ( 1.) Robin Reid punched the balls of Joe Calzaghe, he did this more then one time.
