In a world filled with DJI Minis I'm always happy when an informative video drops about the Atom. I really have no interest in DJI so I wish Potensic would step up with a Mavic competitor. I think that Potensic has proven themselves to be a reliable manufacturer with the Atom so it's time for them to move forward.
The find my drone option works awesome. The controler continues to beep for several minutes and as long as you have the controller in your hand it shows the direction that you are moving in towards retrieving you drone. This is an awesome drone.

It's nice to see a clear path of innovation and improvement for them in the industry. A mix of new features and bug fixes is nice. Can't wait for the ATOM Pro model to be released...

I’m glad to know you can now hand launch, even if it is a bit of fiddling, but that is one feature. I really miss on the atom and every other drone I own does this It won’t even currently launch from my car roof if the engine is running, so it’s very sensitive to movement. So this will make life easier And the gimble tilt not too bad to be fair I’ve seen it in my mini 4 pro also
Thanks for sharing! I agree on all points. The upgrade to the hand launch is a good start, not perfect, but removes a big negative for me. I've seen horizon tilt from every drone I've flown, including but not limited to the Air 3, the Air 2S the Mini 2 and 3. It is a tough ask to get absolute perfection, I've compensated by not flying like Evil Knievel and expected it to give me cinematic footage. The pilot has to take _some_ responsibility, lol. 😎

One update I would like to see is a dynamic rth for when out following me in boat if it loses signal it returns to me/controller in boat rather than patch of water where it took off from... Best option is hover instead of rth but could see that being pia if drone out of sight 🤔
Yes a dynamic homepoint opdate option is very important. Maybe try contact them? And also ask if they can bring back in improved version of follow-me instead of optical tracking only. It's much more reliable. Just show manufacturers often have no clue how their products are being used by their costumers.
This is really great -- THANKS for the video! I just received my ATOM 3-Axis drone today (Plus a tiny 14 gram Remote ID module I hope works, and a nice weighted foldable landing pad ). First thing, I went online to read the user manual, mainly to see HOW to get the MAP into the Potensic Pro app, showing where you will next be flying -- preferably sitting at home the night BEFORE the next day's flight, as I did with my old Phantom -- not a word in the manual about "getting" the map onboard. PLEASE tell me you do not need to do this in the field at the time of the flight! Waypoints I understand you can't record and save (Right?). Do you need to be connected to the Internet in the field??? If the manual states all of this, I missed it completely so forgive me please. Thank you -- ALL of your videos are great.
Thanks! I always struggle getting maps to show up on most drones for some reason. Don't know if i's my phone or service area or what. I found keeping the cell phone signal live in the area I'm flying seems to somehow trigger the maps to show up, sometimes I go into google maps in the area to try and get maps to load, and they usually do at some point, but not exactly sure if it's simply time or if I do something that triggers it. If you found a consistent way to do this let me know... 🤙
Regarding the new updated firmware ( deployed in few days ), there are claims from some people that it affected transmission signal.. I appreciate if you can do a review video on latest update and focus on the main changes that you noticed..

I bought the PotentSick ATOM 3ax a month ago & accidentally interrupted the "firmware update." It didn't go through but I can't find where I can start that over. HELP!

Hello, only thing I have heard is rumblings about a bunch of drones (including DJI mini 2/SE/4k) wanting to charge the phone from the remote while plugged in and not connecting to the remote properly. From what I hear is that it's not the drone but the phone that's the issue. Something about the operating system and the iphone 15 now using a USB-C port and the operating system doesn't let the user disable charging via the USB-C and this will happen with other drone remotes because it is an OS, not a drone thing. DJI has had this issue since December 2023 and hasn't got a fix for it so it's not a quick thing. I would reach out to Potensic and see what they say. I use Android devices (phone and tablets) exclusively and haven't had any issues.
Indeed, the update discussed here was the _major_ feature upgrades and bug fix release that added features and functions that were originally missing and I wanted to highlight that there were substantial upgrades that happened. Potensic keeps releasing smaller bug fixes periodically so your version could easily show to be a newer version. Also, from what I can tell also, it seems that Potensic releases different versions depending on your region so there could be different versions for different drones at the same time. Hope this helps!
I am from Costa Rica and the software still does not appear updated in my app, I cannot zoom in on the video, in fact I see the video enlarged compared to the view with the photography option. I don't see where it allows you to do the timelapse, is it where I am or is it updated in specific areas?
I'm not sure, you may want to double check with Potensic because from what I can tell, different regions seem to have different firmware numbers for some reason. A bit confusing to me...
Great video just wish you would have shown how to get the firmware. Is it just a update to the phone app or do you some how have to actually update the drone itself? Or does the app update the drone. A little confused on that part.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, you can take pics and videos and post them on facebook for family and friends, as long as you're the flights are just for fun. Any flights that are not for fun only, like if you are taking the pics for someone else or trying to promote, advertise or sell something for yourself or someone else for instance, even if it's not paid, then you would need a part 107...

I'm having issues with my drone when I pair it to the controller is in red it's telling me if something about the battery not leaking to the flight controller I don't know what that means it took a nasty tumble earlier and hit a tree and when it came down hit the ground pretty hard and it never came back on it connects to the controller but the light on the back of the drone is red I reached out to potensic they want me to film the drone take pictures and all this nonsense just for them to repair it does anybody know what that means
Boy, that is a tough one because they are very similar. The Potensic is a newer model so probably a bit newer tech and they have been doing good firmware updates so that's a plus. Pricing is similar but it looks like Potensic has a sale on the fly-more right now for $90 off, so that's nice too. IMO, go for the fly-more package rather than the single battery package, it's a good deal. Potensic Atom on sale on Amazon: amzn.to/3VmUHhE Fimi x8Mini V2 on Amazon: amzn.to/4cgkwFZ so I think price-wise the ATOM overall is a bit cheaper now. The FIMI does have waypoints were the ATOM does not, so if that's important to you then it might decide for you. On the X8 pro FIMI misrepresented the inclusion of RID for a long time now, so that is a black mark for them regarding truthful representation of the product, and the support has been a better experience for me personally from Potensic, so all being equal, personally I would probably lean towards the ATOM, slightly. Again, IMO, get it on Amazon and check it out, DON'T crash it(!) and if it doesn't perform as you think it should or is missing some "must have' feature you didn't realize, return it. I'm still waiting for a Karen avoidance system, but I suspect that's going to be difficult and expensive. It would take very advanced technology to detect a Karen in advance. After they are triggered, that's easy.
I updated to the latest firmware a couple of weeks ago (just to test) and the "anti-Karen" feature still works the same. I'm continuing to use this module on a drone regularly. Nothing different as far as I know, but I noticed it was on sale for like $50 off around a week or two ago.
I've a doubt pleaser can you help me:- I want to ship this drone to India will it cause any trouble for me to fly it in India(no registration below 249g drones). or will I get any trouble to use its application or any future updates?
More reasons I wonder if I should've sent back my ATOM SE for the 3-Axis. I hope they bring the digital zoom and timelapse mode for pictures to the SE because if nothing else it'd stop me having buyers remorse! Edit: I forgot to mention the SE already has silent return so it seems odd it was missing from the 3-axis version.
That would be nice, not sure if they will though. My guess is having the SE with slightly less features might be how they are trying to keep it as the lower budget model in the lineup...

@@theobserver2674 I haven't had the chance to use mine a lot yet. I live in an area where it's either raining or very windy a lot. Sometimes both at once! I've only gone a few hundred meters away but it easily went up to 100 meters and came back. I'm worried that it will fall out the sky or something lol
@@AlienDrones Eh, the 3-axis is the selling point difference to me. If they differentiate with artificial limits it won't end well with users. I hope (not being rude to you) that you're wrong. I was very disappointed when I saw no digital zoom on first use.
I believe the first time it popped up on the app when I was trying to hand launch and I clicked "confirm" but holding both sticks down and in when it is moving might enable it too. Of course it has to be the latest firmware with the option in it...
It depends. They are both great drones in their own regard. If I wasn't considering price, then the Mini 3 is a better drone, of course we should expect to get more for our money. "Value" of the drone though is the price vs. functionality that I need as the user. So if the ATOM does all I need, then it is a way better value for me than the mini 3 at twice the price. If the mini 3 has functionality that I need (or want), then regardless of the price it is a better value for me.
I honestly dont know what to do ive deleted and redownloaded the app ive tried it on two phones i cant get it to give me the option silent mode it will not update for some reason what am i doing wrong
@@AlienDrones yeah apparently they get 5 days off work for Labour day smh, i have the Atom, i think the issue is the updated app. If you updated the firmware before the new app update i think it worked. But I think the new app update is messing things up.
It does not need WiFi for anything while flying, but you do have to activate it before you fly which needs an internet connection to create an account.
I was gearing up to do that last year but since Autel announced that they stopped producing their consumer drones and ending support it doesn't make sense to test something that is virtually an obsolete product line now... 🤷♂

@@AlienDrones No you don't need obstacle avoidance. Most people were born with sensors in their head. And if the obstacle avoidance works 99% of the time, it still mean 1 full minute of crashing every 100 minutes flight. What you do need is a correctly programmed follow-me. Because optical tracking is great for certain shots, but not reliable in real life.
@@AlienDrones I reached out to them and their response was plain, "not in the plans" propeller guards should be the first things you think about with this kind of drone, it's actually as good as my djis but I can't use my potensic drone to teach with because no propeller guards.

I believe there was some firmware updates but don't think the updates were this extensive as the hardware is a lot different.

I'm still waiting for a Karen avoidance system, but I suspect that's going to be difficult and expensive. It would take very advanced technology to detect a Karen in advance. After they are triggered, that's easy.

Hi, have you upgraded your Atom SE, with the 2024 camera zoom in zoom out optional update.
Did that update apply to the SE? I thought it only went to the ATOM 3-axis. I no longer have the SE to check.

I updated to the latest firmware a couple of weeks ago (just to test) and the "anti-Karen" feature still works the same. I'm continuing to use this module on a drone regularly. Nothing different as far as I know, but I noticed it was on sale for like $50 off around a week or two ago.

More reasons I wonder if I should've sent back my ATOM SE for the 3-Axis. I hope they bring the digital zoom and timelapse mode for pictures to the SE because if nothing else it'd stop me having buyers remorse!
Edit: I forgot to mention the SE already has silent return so it seems odd it was missing from the 3-axis version.
How far the Potensic Atom SE goes, according to your experience?
That would be nice, not sure if they will though. My guess is having the SE with slightly less features might be how they are trying to keep it as the lower budget model in the lineup...

@@theobserver2674 I haven't had the chance to use mine a lot yet. I live in an area where it's either raining or very windy a lot. Sometimes both at once! I've only gone a few hundred meters away but it easily went up to 100 meters and came back. I'm worried that it will fall out the sky or something lol
@@AlienDrones Eh, the 3-axis is the selling point difference to me. If they differentiate with artificial limits it won't end well with users. I hope (not being rude to you) that you're wrong. I was very disappointed when I saw no digital zoom on first use.
Not sure where in the app I can find the forced takeoff option.
I believe the first time it popped up on the app when I was trying to hand launch and I clicked "confirm" but holding both sticks down and in when it is moving might enable it too. Of course it has to be the latest firmware with the option in it...

Not heard of that one... Sounds like the compass may have gotten jostled a bit but I'd reach out to Potensic and see what they suggest.

It depends. They are both great drones in their own regard. If I wasn't considering price, then the Mini 3 is a better drone, of course we should expect to get more for our money. "Value" of the drone though is the price vs. functionality that I need as the user. So if the ATOM does all I need, then it is a way better value for me than the mini 3 at twice the price. If the mini 3 has functionality that I need (or want), then regardless of the price it is a better value for me.

@@AlienDrones yeah apparently they get 5 days off work for Labour day smh, i have the Atom, i think the issue is the updated app. If you updated the firmware before the new app update i think it worked. But I think the new app update is messing things up.

You mean remote ID? DroneScanner, OpenDroneID and there is also Air Sentinel but I hear it is really buggy yet.

It does not need WiFi for anything while flying, but you do have to activate it before you fly which needs an internet connection to create an account.

I was gearing up to do that last year but since Autel announced that they stopped producing their consumer drones and ending support it doesn't make sense to test something that is virtually an obsolete product line now... 🤷♂

@@AlienDrones No you don't need obstacle avoidance. Most people were born with sensors in their head. And if the obstacle avoidance works 99% of the time, it still mean 1 full minute of crashing every 100 minutes flight.
What you do need is a correctly programmed follow-me. Because optical tracking is great for certain shots, but not reliable in real life.

@@AlienDrones I reached out to them and their response was plain, "not in the plans" propeller guards should be the first things you think about with this kind of drone, it's actually as good as my djis but I can't use my potensic drone to teach with because no propeller guards.
