Really good video. I've been binge watching Potensic Atom videos - I just bought one and am taking it out for the first time this afternoon. I've worked for several software companies and I can tell you that if they got your suggestion into the next release, they were already working on it. Also, I've never heard of a company taking a single suggestion and immediately implementing in because no one has resources to do that. I'm glad to have that feature you requested, though.

@kpmac1. As some time has passed since you wrote your evaluation, I would appreciate your opinion on the Potensic Atom. Some opinions have been reported as to the camera not being as good as the DJI. Have you observed any such or any other problems? Some opinions say the Atom camera is almost as good, but does have some small problems with clarity in certain situations. I too share some concerns on security, but agree that with what I plan on doing, I cannot see a problem personally. Thank you in advance.
@@Graybear78 Well, I've never used a DJI drone so I can't really compare. All I know is when I show the videos and photos from my Atom to other people, their usual reaction is something like ""wow! I didn't know consumer drones can do that!". The 40K/30 video looks really good to me. I suspect that the noticeable difference would be in low light situations since the Atom has a smaller image sensor. But I don't really do any low light flying so that's kind of irrelevant to me.

Great video i have both the Atom and the mini 2 se and i think i prefer the look of the footage of the Atom! With the added features of visual tracking and waypoints, plus the fact its alot cheaper than the dji its a no brainer to get this.

this one. I get tired of DJI controlling the industry. That’s why they can charge what ever
they want to a point. Now we have another company that is competing in this price range.

Was looking to spend less than $500 for my first drone with the most features for my money. I watched many, many online videos. Narrowed it down to DJI Mini 3 pro (used), Fimi X8, and the Potensic Atom. Would like to have seen more comparison reviews between the Fimi X8 and the Atom but... Ended up buying a 'like new' Potensic Atom fly more for

A great video, I have an original Mini 2 and am very happy with it, but if I needed a replacement I would definitely consider the Atom.
The only thing which would make me choose the Mini 2 over the Atom is the 2.7k60p which I use for slo-mo at 2.5x, having the 2.7k gives me room to crop in and create a 1080p video.
For a new drone flier buying their first drone, its a no-brainer, the Atom is a far better proposition than the Mini 2 SE.
Totally agree! The ATOM can also record in 2k 30fps as well as 1080p 60fps. But the 1080p resolution looks terrible on far away videos, really only good for close up stuff

I used my old i phone 5. Downloaded app off internet connection. the Atom does not require an active service or internet to fly properly. However for updates you will want to reconnect to wi-fi at home occasionally. Thanks for the video!

In fact, technically the drone should fly better with phone in airplane mode. I also use an older spare phone (no case.) My new phone case doesn't fit in the controller.

The dji mini 3 is probably a better drone. More expensive yes, and if I was looking to spend money in that price range, probably would have gone with it. The mini 3 records in 4k HDR and has a larger light sensor, you'll get way better images from it then the ATOM

Great video i just bought one but the best feature for me was no geofencing. I was tired of going on a cruise or somewhere else and being blocked or having to request permission.
I didn't even know geofencing was a thing when I bought this lol, have since learned and was like wow, made the right choice
Have flown it for two weeks now, often in quite windy conditions which it handled easily. Perfect for me as it's definitely pushed me to start studying for my 107 and invest in a pro camera drone and up my game. It's an unbeatable drone at the price -especially if you head on to Ebay.. I think Potensic are either clearing stock or reselling returns that haven't been flown. Mostly awesome seller reviews -there certainly as happy as me. I paid $260 for a supposedly used Fly-More Potensic Atom: as with most of the reviews, mine was simply an open box and the actual drone and the entire fly-more combo was new and unboxed.
Video is by no mean pro quality and all but impossible to color grade but if you want your appetite whetted with drones and half-decent video this is 100% it.

No flipping Geo fencing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Follow me and the cost. I have a DJI mini 2 and a Mavic2s. I fly the Atom 90% of the time. I use it for recon when out in the woods and the desert, it saves me a ton of hiking. It also gets to places I can't, cliff dwellings, petroglyphs, across and in canyons and scouting for gold mining.
I have also spotted a ton of old foundations to metal detect that I never would have spotted from walking. I never go anywhere without it! I did glue on a little piece of polarized sunglasses over the camera and I made a carbon fiber roll cage around the camera. My only suggestion is, when you get it, go through all the functions several times. It seems like they are not up to par with DJI on QC. The first one I returned to Amazon, return to home was about 100 feet off every time. Best DJI alternative hands down!
Biggest thing they need to update (perhaps they already have..I just ordered it this morning) is to fix the jerky turns on the waypoints.

Awesome, glad to hear it. It's a fun drone and great quality for the money. And I'll try to do a battery test if the weather allows. Very cold where I am for the winter. But I can tell you first hand from flying it alot, I typically get a full 30minutes of flight time with each battery if that's what you mean by battery range test.

@@LLOVEL9 I have seen a distance test of 4720 meters forward and same back ofcourse.
So a total of 9440 meters = 5.880 miles and he had about 20% left, so he could have done 6 miles in total easy.
He makes 2 runs ... first he let the Atom return on RTH, then the second run he cancels RTH and makes about 1km more.

Compare with which DJI? The comparison should be the discontinued Mini 2 or the more than 1 year old Mini 3 (the non-Pro version). In terms of image quality, the ATOM AIS not as good as the Mini 2 let along the Mini 3. Controlling wise, the ATOM frequently over steer but not the DJI Mini 2. I have had the ATOM for several months. The only things the Mini 2 does not have is the following and the waypoint. Before you review, please fly both significantly first.
After take off take it straight up 4 meters and let it hover for 20 - 30 seconds. The RTH will be exactly where it took off on the helipad. (Maybe 2 leggs on and 2 leggs off the pad)

You mentioned buying a burner phone from BB. did you have to put a sim card in it? And which phone did you buy?
i bought the Blue View 4. There are also other options available. Samsung has one that costs $100 and is slightly more powerful. And for the sim card, that is not required. The phone can connect to wifi which allows you to download the app and keep it updated. The potensic app does not require a cell signal to fly. The drone flys off of GPS, so again, you do not need an internet connection to fly the drone. The only glitch i have noticed with using the burner phone with no internet connection is that sometimes the map satellite view will not populate while flying, not a huge issue tho, at least for me, as i never even look at that. And because those burner phones are so cheap, the initial startup is super slow and certain processes can take a bit, but as far as running the potensic app, it runs great. That's literally all i use it for. Its a pretty crappy phone in general, but does what i need it to

When is Potensic going to get their act together and offer HDR or at least AEB (auto exposure bracketing) on their drones?
I just bought mine and it's winter in Maine, I have taken it out once it was over 40 f.Anyways when I fired it up first thing it did was give me a geomagnetic error anyone ever had that problem and why?
I've never had a geomagnetic warning, but I have had issues if trying to take off next to large metal objects such as a light pole or or industrial stuff. So maybe consider if there is some sort of geomagnetic interference around where you're trying to take off? Just a thought

There should be three or four little buttons top right hand corner of the screen that pop up once you click on the mini map bottom left of screen. The home button should be the icon furthest left, if that makes any sense lol

It was a better value than DJI now DJI released the new mini 4K drone for 299. I think DJI knocked it out of the park once again.
Have you tried the maximum range if the photos and videos are still sharp?
on the SD card they still look fine. But the reception on your phone screen gets alittle questionable when going max distance
Beautiful little drone, however it’s not quite DJI quality yet. They have come a long ways over the last few years. Wouldn’t mind owning one.

This video was exported in 1080p, hence the blurry background. I didn't have 4k exporting capabilities at the time. The original footage is crystal clear if you are worried about that.
I ask potensic to make the rc gauge not white ,it is hard to see in sunny day,but in colour,and they did not even answer.I have both potensic SE and Atom.
It's a good drone. Just wouldn't call it superior to dji.

You will need wifi to login to the app, but after that, you don't need any internet connection or data. I made a fake email account to login with and that I set the burner phone up with

Yea that's a tough one. Check out the #1 comparison video I have reccomended in the video description by Robin Drones. That should help you decide. Gives a really good side by side comparison, and I think the ATOM looks better
Control and photography a little better with DJI. Follow me and waypoints with Protensic and a little cheaper.
Potensic Atom requires Android 7.0
The Potensic package also includes a 64gb card. I suggest a 128gb card.
I bought a 128 gb card for mine never have to worry about running out of space 🤙
I got a cheaper 128gb SD card for £10. The 64gb is a good backup to have or use elsewhere.

I don't get it - DJI is also chinese company. Even better - Potensic is from Hong Kong that still have some independence fom China and DJI is from Shenzen.
To many others, DJI is the winner. To each , his own. Your video clips are nothing to write home about. Many owners have had signal problems with the Atom where others in the same area were fine.
The mini 2 is very outdated now so yes compared to that maybe the other drone would win.

Its only true comparison would be the Fimi X8 Mini V2 (which is in fact even cheaper than the atom).
i dont understand why everyone just wouldnt get a proper (dji) drone over this. The more i see it, the more i wonder why this thing exists, except maybe for the ceo for making money from it. When talking about value, that thing cuts your range and video stability within the ratio of its cost (that video looks shaaaaaaky asf). Ah, btw i got my mini 2 (not the se) for 150€ here in germany, which is equivalent to 162 USD. And my Mavic Pro (1st gen) can record in 4k, and... vertical!!! (And it was 185€, or 200 USD)
Geofencing issues and the ban on DJI drones is the main reason for not going with DJI. The ATOM is still Chinese, but at least it doesn't have the DJI name that countries hate so much, and it cannot be geo-banned. Those honestly were the two biggest selling points for not buying a DJI. Based on comparison videos out there, the two drones are almost identical in terms of video quality. Robin Drones posted a great side by side video comparison and IMO the ATOM looks better.
