I grew up camping on the Grand Mesa. What a wonderful outdoor playground with around 300 lakes up there. I have been thinking about a trip to stay up there for a few weeks lately then I ran across your video here. Sure made me home sick and brought back some wonderful memories. You should check out the Craig Crest Trail if you get the chance, it's beautiful and a descent hike. Overlooks Island Lake which is also beautiful! Thanks for sharing and I'm really wishing I was there too. :)
Thanks for your comment and suggestion. We also love it up on the mesa. I'll check out that Craig Crest Trail the next time we get up that way. We did stay at Little Bear campground on the back side of Island Lake and we hiked the trail right along the waters edge - and it was BEAUTIFUL !!! I'll try and post a Island Lake vid in the next few days. Thanks again, and best wishes for the remainder of the summer !
Do you know which reservoir or forest road this is on? I'm taking my family up to Grand Mesa this Summer and want to find a nice little spot on one of the lakes like this that is away from any of the camp grounds.
This is on Lakeshore Dr (aka 121) on the west side of Young's Creek Reservoir #3, on the north end of the damn. There are several places to pull off the road along 121 - but day campers often fill them up pretty quick and finding a spot anywhere near level and with some shade will be a challenge. If you cant find a suitable boon-docking camp spot, I would suggest Little Bear Campground or Ward Lake Campground. In either case be sure and bring plenty of high DEET mosquito spray as the Mesa has more than its fair share of mosquitos.
