I'm not a fly fisher per say, i use my fly rods as a chuck and duck rod on small streams. But I will say that Lamson is a great reel! It works for me on steelhead and salmon. Not sure about my opinion on a no drag reel for big fish? It's probably best for another than what i do. Great video brother 👍
Thinking of this or a Ross Colorado to pair w a 4wt Winston Pure. Like the click sound of the Purist. But not crazy about the wedge shape Lamson is incorporating into their latest designs. That single wedge holding the handle makes it look unbalanced.
Oh the Colorado is one nice reel, the wedge shape is intended to offset the reel handle and provide a slight counterweight. I get the aesthetic critique though, I hear what you're saying.
Nice video, but I disagree that the click-clack or Centerpin reel is not for big fish, only for trout? No, for pike, zander, carp and grass carp and of course also for trout and grayling. Well, if you don't have it in hand, then you can only fish for small trout.
Thanks for the thorough review. Would you have any comparison thoughts on the Lamson Purist vs Sage Click vs Hardy Ultra Click? If my research is correct, the Hardy Ultra Click is the only full frame click and pawl reel? I'm considering all three but curious if you have experience with all three? Maybe a future comparison video for all click and pawl reels for trout bums like me who have no use for a drag system. Thanks and keep up the videos we love them!
Thanks for watching, I have a Sage Click that I've had for years (probably 7-8 years) and it is one of my favorite reels to this day. Never fails. The Hardy full frame idea is intriguing, we use to sell Hardy but no longer offer those. I think the Sage vs. Lamson is a coin flip, but I can testify my Sage still spins through with 500+ days on the water so there is that!
Too light, too small. I would go with a Sage Trout Spey Reel, on a two-hander it's nice to have some additional weight to anchor the bottom end of the rod during the cast. Great question, Hardy makes some good Click/Pawl reels for two-handers but unfortunately we don't sell those.
I don’t NEED 80% of the fly fishing equipment I own, but I sure enjoy most of it, especially the nicer stuff. Nobody needs a Rolex either, but if I was into watches I would probably want one.
I have a no. 2 on a 4 weight and it’s amazing. Prefer to finger drag.
100% similar construction to the Sage Click,I own 2 Sage Click, but I prefer this one.

Thanks for showing how to change the retrieve direction!
Glad it was helpful!

Joe try using some 40 or 30 lbs Spectra braided line, 30 Lbs. might give you 150 - 200 yards of backing on the reel
Try a Hardy on your trout spey set-up. Game changer!
They are great for that, noisy, good resistance, and the right weight for a two-hander.

@@redsflyshop awesome insight and thanks! much appreciated!
Hardy Ultra Click is not the only one.
@@ericmel9644 thanks. can you tell me any full frame click and pawl reels that are options?
Is the clicker piece plastic? How would the 5+ feel on a Sage Trout Spey HD 11' 3wt?

Plastic clicker....naaaaa skip. hardy ultraclick much better option
I have not put a fish on the reel in years.
There ya go, simple and reliable is good.
Hey, if you catch on a whip or field? O.K.
So it’s a Galvan Brookie, but larger arbor and newer.
Sure that would fill a similar niche absolutely.
My Cortland reel will do the same thing.
Excellent.
Something else no one needs no drag and still 360+ I'll pass
Fair enough, I get it. Most consider this a one time purchase. It will no doubt outlive several $100 reels IMO.
