- Our own Joel Grover whose I-Team investigation into the city’s homeless and trash epidemic is rocking LA City Hall. Grover exposes a 12-ton pile of trash infested with rats..not in skid row, but in the famous garment district. Businesses complained to no avail until one call made to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

During my childhood(Alabama), there were three cities I dreamt about calling home: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. In the last 18 months I’ve been offered high paying jobs in all three cities and this type of activity is why I declined them all... shame what’s happening to those magical coastal cities that we rural folk fantasized about.

LA Metro Rail is an equal disaster. And it could be easily fixed. Put uniformed officers at each end of the turnstiles. This would solve 90% of the problems.
The rats never had a problem until the drug addicts came around.
If they were dogs this problem would have been solved already.

People are homeless because the illegals get welfare and housing services first. There is 14 million illegals on welfare services and a half million American born citizens that are homeless. Solution is simple send the 14 million lazy illegals packing, and help the half million American born homeless in our country. Think of all the tax dollars that would save Americans.

One thing I have NEVER hear about is the widespread deposits of rat droppings that can cause Hantavirus. A lot of rats carry the Hantavirus and 40% of those infected die.

Cleaning up this trash should be the city’s top concern or else there will be a typhoid breakout. Also, this situation is not fair to the Fashion District businesses who follow the rules and do not dump their trash out in the nearby streets and alley. They have customers too scared to come in!

So, triple or quadruple the fine amount and triple or quadruple the amount of fines they give out for illegal dumping. Once enough businesses start consistently getting $1,000+ fines they'll change their behavior. If they don't then just increase the fine amount some more.

You know why they don't ticket trash dumping more? Because it's hard to catch so police wouldn't want to spend resources to monitor sites. It's easier to catch parking violations and ticket them. With a car there's a license plate which is traced back to you. With illegal dumping what is there? CCTV footage?

I've lived in LA for years, what the city needs to do is go after the DWP. The DWP and it's employees take a ton of money away from the city that could be used for clean up.

No its not working, someone moved out of the apartment building behind my house and they left A LOT of trash. Called and reported it and it is still there. It has been there for 3 months now.
As soon as they pick up all that garbage, all those rats are going to invade neighboring homes and businesses.

They ban drinking straws, but pass out millions of taxpayer purchased syringes.
They freak out about the tons of garbage they haven't yet managed to elect to office (yet).
They constantly bill taxpayers for money to pass out to the "homeless" and are amazed at the problems they have with homeless camps? If you watch people feeling pigeons, you can't help but notice how they flock to the free food.
You have a state with some of the mildest winters. You fund what started out as a safety net, but has become an extremely comfortable (and expensive) hammock. Should you really be surprised about the explosion of homelessness?
Hell, if my community had a homeless problem, I would just print out flyers about all the freebies offered in California. After a month of handing them out, I would give away bus tickets (one way) to the ones that haven't left, and give them a welfare application to fill out on their way, as well as the list for free lawyers and advocates to see when they arrive! MY problem would quickly become YOUR problem!
It's no wonder other states are seeing an infestation of people able to flee California. What I CAN'T understand is why they again want to do the very same things that caused them to flee in the first place? I guess you can show a person a thought, but you can't make them THINK!
The rats could cause an epidemic of bubonic plague. Hire the homeless people to help clean up the trash and pay them generously.
This problem is city wide. There are homeless encampments and shanty towns in venice, west LA and Beverly hills and you see these trash piles. There are tent Cities under most of the freeways and the homeless are beginning to encroach on residential areas.

I live up north on the Sacramento River and we have piles of trash in all waterways. Hazardous waste washing into the water.

It's a damn shame that we have all these programs and resources to deal with such a problem. People are making there effort to report it but the other end of the line they aren't getting off their asses. SMH.
