      @Truth Holder - Yup, so give up your home, your rights, and your job. (If you even have one.) You now have zero rights as an American citizen, so an illegal immigrant can take your place. We no longer care to take care of Americans like you, so we can help people from other failed countries. Because that's our problem.

    This can happen to anyone of us. I was a journeyman machinist making $55,000 a year, life was good. Then my medical issues got worse and I was not able to work. Then 2008 hit, a few years later were living in a two-car garage. Then one of worst days I have had, was talking to my wife about how we might have to live in our pickup truck. We had to move, but my VA disability check and her part-time minimum wage pay was not going to be enough. I guess you could say we got lucky, now we are just a step above homeless, were called Trailer Trash.
    It is soul-crushing to be poor in America. We're told to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps! What do you do when you can't afford the bootstraps? You're publicly humiliated by people when they see you use a Link Card in the grocery store. We have had people go through our grocery cart and literally take things out of the cart because they did not think we needed it. Your told being poor is just laziness. Advertising constantly reminds you of how poor you are.
    Some are crushed so bad they turn to alcohol or drugs to relieve the pain. And I do mean pain, this pain can be so bad at times that you want to die.

      CRMcGee2 just because you live in a trailer does not make you trailer trash. Men that have children with multiple women and don't take care of any of them. Same goes for women who keep having babies with no father's around to take care of them. People too lazy to work. I think this is what is what people think of as trailer trash. What happened to you could happen to any of us. I am very aware it could happen to me. This is why I live very frugally. I know if I were to lose my job I would also lose my home. I mean I could live for about 4 or 5 months paying my bills but after that I'd be in trouble. Nobody should be going through your grocery cart ever. You have the right to eat and that Link Card was meant for people in your situation. A situation that could happen to any of us. I hope things improve for you in this new year.

      @@stevekambiski6752 No, crony capitalism is the problem. A socialized version of capitalism is the best mixture because socialism and communism have never worked if you want to be honest with yourself! The problem is apathy in this country and the government is run by corrupt people who use it to gain capital instead of what it's supposed to be for which is helping the country. The founding fathers gave the citizens checks and balances but everyone's too busy shopping or watching football to care, this country is done for, it's just a matter of time it's already ruined.

      The talk Dr. Drew had with Seth Green about this situation was eye opening. Not only is it drug driven, just as long as theft isn’t more than $900/day it’s now a misdemeanor. Wow. I feel terrible for the homeless people. Dr. Drew is right, politicians created the perfect storm for homelessness to escalate. They aren’t doing anything to help fix it, they just want to clean/clear them out like garbage. The majority of these people have mental and/or physical ailments that go untreated (because they can’t afford it or have no support system) so they leave their state and choose to self medicate in California. It’s only going to take a few people getting really ill to infect a huge area. Sadly, that is going to be the real wake up call for big money in California. That’s probably why so many big businesses, especially tech, have left the state and moved to places like Texas.

      Lunchbox it's all related to socialism.

    • @erichuff6945
      @erichuff6945 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lunchbox a large amount of social services that require high taxes to fund. Extra cost to utilities and fuel do to government regulations. Large influx of unskilled immigrants that can not support the economy, immigrants that keep wages low because they will work for low incomes. Single party political control. Implementing bandaid fixes like minimum wage hikes that puts the middle class farther away from middle class wages.
      That are the similarities. Then you have to put on top of that no health care, including mental health, for the poor. The very liberal view on illicit drugs and the acceptance of gangs and organized crime.
      It's a powder keg just waiting to discharge. It's not only France now that is revolting against socialism it is all of Europe and it's not just the right wing, but everyone that works for a living. The wealthy see no problem and the welfare recipients do not see a problem. However the working class tax payers are a little upset with funding the Socialist agenda.
      Many people see California as the starting point in the US for this same movement.

      If this reply is too long skip to the bottom paragraph. The third. paragraph shows the numbersBased on the picture in your icon I assumed you were American. No matter, while I concede that a great many people do become homeless as a result, most homeless are that way for other reasons. Here in the United States, unless you are deemed dangerous or you are wealthy, or have good insurance, if you are mentally ill you do not get to stay in a mental hospital. It is difficult for mentally ill people to get employment so most end up as homeless people. That is the number one category. The next largest group of people in my state are ex convicts. Since 99% of landlords will not rent to anyone who has ever been convicted of a crime, even minor ones. When a convict is done serving their sentence the are released. If they don't have family they end up living on the street here. If they are on parole they end up back in prison since the law requires them to live indoors. If they were released without a parole obligation they usually spend the rest of their life living on the street. The third largest category are those addicted to drugs or alcohol. They require no additional explanation. The fourth largest category are people who just simply refuse to work and earn an income and so have no money for rent. This comes to: 39% mentally ill31% ex convicts19% drug and alcohol users 18% refuse to work4% undeterminedThe above numbers add up to more than 100% due to the fact that many people belong to more than one category and more than one reason may have contributed to their being homeless.These are the combined statistics for the three urban counties in Florida where I have volunteered at homeless support agencies/homeless shelters. They are between 3 and 10 years old so possibly some progression in some of these numbers has occurred since then. Also Florida may be unique in this mix as other regions in the U.S. may have a different combination of problems. I should also note that about 20% of the above statistics were also military veterans who are not well cared for in the United States. Many countries have comprehensive help for the mentally ill. The United States does not and Florida is among the worst of the states in this regard. While some states have laws restricting a landlord's ability to discriminate against an ex convict looking for housing, Florida's laws strongly favor landlords and landlords can prevent nearly anyone from moving in for reasons that other states and countries may prohibit. In the United States we do not have laws requiring people to work. Some countries have such laws. If you don't wish to work you don't have to. But then you also may have to face the consequences which usually means you don't have an income and therefore can't have a place to live, especially if you have no family. About 5-10% of the population of the Unites States consists of people who have no family and therefore have no support system if they fall on hard times. A great many people are in this category. All the places where I volunteer only serviced homeless men and the above statistics only apply to males. Females make up less than 5% of the U.S. homeless population. Children make up less than 1%. About 90% of what little support systems are in place to help the homeless only help homeless females and homeless families. Homeless men are almost completely ignored by all private and government agencies. Also, all benefits issuing agencies will only issue benefits by mailing them to your legal address. If you don't have a legal address you don't get any benefits. So those who need benefits the most won't get what little is available. In my county there are approximately 20,000 homeless people. There is one homeless shelter providing a total of 40 beds and only to single mothers and their children and only to those children under 16. There is one private agency that provides individual "cottages" (tiny homes) for homeless vets. There are a total of 16 of those. Five of the 300+ churches in our county let homeless sleep in their sanctuaries when temperatures outdoors are bellow 10 degrees f which usually only happens in December-February here in Florida. I know this is a lot of information you probably didn't want to read but I think it is important since the topic was brought up that any American who reads this reply understands the reality of the situation.

    What ever happened to affordable housing, 52,000 people living on the streets is unexpectedly high. People are perpetually homeless with no chance of getting shelter or into a group home and all they're doing is managing the homeless, and that's not helping them at all, that's a waste of 450 million dollars.

      william richardson the homeless problem in California is caused by a few factors. The over night influx of high paying tech jobs. People coming in needing housing and have top dollar to pay. On the other hand minimum wage going up but other wages not matching the rise. Lager amounts of illegal immigrants taking jobs and undercutting the pay. Strick restrictions on energy raises the cost of utilities. More and more social services keep raising taxes, including property taxes. Not to mention political corruption never seen on this level in American history.
      So keep supporting open boarders and mass immigration. Keep demanding the government create more social programs. Keep implementing heave restrictions on business and industry and I'm sure everything will work out fine.

    The Bin... looks like free and secure storage! When I was homeless I paid to keep my stuff in storage. What I couldn't fit in storage was sold, given away, and or destroyed/thrown in the trash. How does a homeless person have a pet? if you cannot care for yourself, how can you care for a pet? Don't break the law and you probably won't have any Warrants issued for your arrest... there's a whole lot of excuse making going on and next to no personal accountability. I didn't hang out with other folks nor did I obtain a drug problem... too busy working to get out of that situation... which is very wearing to say the least. Never though I would end up in such a situation... I was competent enough not to burn bridges and or wear out my welcome when folks were gracious enough to help out... however, some are perpetual train wrecks and routinely self sabotage. While no one wants to be homeless, there are too many who end up as such who go to great lengths to make the situation as bad as possible.
    How about focusing on mental illness, the real problem that folks choose to ignore. Many, if not most homeless folks have mental health issues, some severe. Many who are remedially functional end up with mental health issues because of homelessness; it's a brutal existence... although a choice for some. And, regardless the help/assistance, some folks will literally destroy everything they come into contact with; personal choices. Interestingly enough, some of these folks are vividly aware of their situation and just want to be left alone.

The poor & homeless are not causing the middle class to decline, the middle class are falling into poverty because of economic policies that favor the wealthy.

A lot of lower income people are being price out by the hi tech employees. The working poor now live in these tents, RVs. In San Jose, Police officers are allowed to live in RVs in the police parking lot because the can’t afford homes in the Bay Area. I find it ironic that some of theses police officers are the ones ticketing and towing peoples homes while they are living the same way behind the protection of a fenced police parking lot.

    The reason they won’t just build more shelters is because it would waste tax money and not be used. Most homeless people are junkies or have some mental issue. Some other videos that you may find in the video thread said that the shelters the city did invest tax money to build ended up being vacant, because they have strict no drug or alcohol policies and curfews. Simply put, most of these people would rather get high than to live under a roof and be fed regularly. It’s the sad truth 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Jd F I’m sorry, but people who are too mentally ill to realize they need help for their addiction will not get better. The thing is, they don’t have to listen to anyone and are responsible for themselves as they are over 18. The sad truth is that even if these activist groups want to convert the people into productive members of society and help get them clean, it won’t work unless they want to change themselves. And most of the time that won’t happen because they are too ill to even want to get help for their addictions

    • @MetatronsCube23
      @MetatronsCube23 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      If you don't own property(anywhere, not just LA), you are not an average citizen. Renting is a luxury for rich people, and if you can't buy something you have to go elsewhere, where you can buy something. Renting has no future return on equity, and you lose money over the long term because you don't own the property you pay money into. Even a payed for trailer(under 20 grand) is a better investment than renting an apartment because lot rent in cheaper than an apartment so you can save more money. At some point, you can sell that trailer for 15 grand in cash and get a real house.

    it sounds like someone in the city government stole most of the money they raised in tax revenue for that project.
    i live in california and i've stopped voting to approve repeat municipal tax proposals, regardless of what they're claiming to be for. i just voted no on one for a service bond for a hospital because they didn't even bother to change the language from the 2016 ballot. they got that bond, implemented none of the practical improvements they listed, and now they're asking for _another_ tax increase for the same thing? to me, that indicates there's someone along the line siphoning off the money.
    if you voted to raise taxes twice to solve this problem and all it's done is gotten worse, it's because the money is getting diverted. plug up that leak and see if the program doesn't start running properly.
