The problem has always been they wanted to be given a special status. Gifted with uniqueness, they wanted an exception for their lifestyle. An exception from religion, in law, in culture, in society just so that they could say that their lifestyle deserves acceptance because people won't accept them. It then became celebrating their exclusiveness and making others accept them to be inclusive...provided that people accept them or else they would threaten them socially or legally. Now, they are trying to desperately say that their lifestyle is not only deserving of an exception but it's also so commonplace that its a majority when it's only a small segment of a minority - an exclusive minority with legal exceptions - to the point that everyone has to tolerate their special status as anything else is a social ill.
The thing about tolerance, universally, is people do not tolerate individuals who are seen to be given an exception without just cause when they are in turn punished for being who they are.

Bud Light waded out into what they have since discovered was the Perfect Storm. Never in the history of retail marketing has such a tidal wave of pent up customer anger and frustration been focused on a single brand or product. And never before have those angry customers been able to sit back and enjoy watching the continued destruction that is the direct result of their wrath.
There will be entire business classes devoted to this event, teaching marketing students how best to avoid repeating it themselves.

Look, I get the Bud Lite backlash - they’re so associated with the stereotype of the Redneck, how they didn’t think that their customer base would react negatively a blatant Virtue Signal is beyond me.
But Target? Target’s for Liberal White Women and the kinda Yuppies who unironicaly say “at least it’s not Walmart”. The fact they’re receiving any kind of backlash is just funny, considering that customer base.

What's funny about that is that since their not showing their faces, they don't have to pay them for showing the posters in the add. Now that's exploitation.

I always expected a backlash, but I never thought it would be this big and hit bud light this hard. That's the most remarkable thing about this whole thing. It goes to show that people are just sick and tired of these billion dollar companies doing this woke stuff.

For nearly a decade now, companies were told to appeal to the left-wing wokesters on Twitter. That was made easier when it was simply them being "anti-Trump" and appealing to that crowd. However, once Trump left and Musk bought Twitter, the ordinary folks realized they had more power than they thought. I guarantee this boycott wouldn't have been as successful pre-Musk Twitter, mainly because the wokeys at Twitter would have banned the accounts from talking about it!
Unfortunately for these companies, they just got slapped upside the head with the reality that the right-wing and even apolitical folks spend money too and pissing them off can cost far more than not pandering to the whiners on Twitter with no money! (Remember, if they had any money, they could pay off their student loans!) No, we aren't asking for conservative businesses; we are asking ALL business to stay out of politics! Don't discuss religion or politics - not just advice for dating, CEOs!

@@SeeThomasHowl I agree. Will be interesting to see in a year if folks come back to the brand. However, unlike other targets of boycotts, BL fits that perfect storm of a pretty generic product and more than adequate competition sitting right nearby - not to mention all the smaller brewers available. (Which, is actually funny if you think about it; isn't the stereotype that craft beer drinkers are bearded progressives?) My personal prediction is that AB does an attempt at a complete rebrand of the BL brand in the fall, but their other beers only take a minor hit. The hardest part of this boycott is that AB owns so many brands that people think they are boycotting but still buying from them. As of right now, the boycott is doing far better than any expert would have predicted, which makes any claims those same folks make that BL will bounce back immediately suspect.

Bud Light only got the backlash that it did was mainly women complaining about it. If it was just men complaining about seeing a freak show on their cans or TV screens, not much would have been done but insult a woman or "take away" a woman's potential job (yet no one cares when women take over men's jobs with less merit or have women only jobs but no such equivalent exists for men) and it's game over. We see this played out with the Brawny advert where the lumberjack was replaced by a strong wahmen while stating "strength has no gender." We also saw this play out with the Angel Soft attempt at taking away Father's Day and giving it to women/ single mothers. Then we have the whole Amy Schumer and Seth Rogan "Wage Gap" advert from Bud Light which didn't get all that much backlash and Bud Light only went this route after WOMEN complained about being objectified or humiliated in older adverts that they were pressured to change their ways.

Bud Light isn't beer. My mom, who was a very wise lady, often described Bud Light as, "Horse piss with the fuzz farted off." That means, if you're selling horse piss and trying to pass it off as a beverage, you need to stick with whatever actually drives sales.

You might notice AB is using a form of bait-n-switch; the 'discount' is in the form of a "rebate" direct from AB. That is, you have to pay the higher price in the store, and then hope you *ever* get that rebate from AB. And, of course, most people never bother with redeeming the "rebate" anyway - they just forget, or they lose the receipt, anything. AB is being just as cynical as before, hoping they could "grow the brand" with no downside. When they start giving retailers refunds on returns of unsold beer, rather than just a swap - *then* they'll be serious.

The question that needs to be asked is: How are all these companies still able to trade? Perhaps that they're propped up by companies like BlackRock & Vanguard? And people need to look into ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance). It's basically a credit score for that corporations adhere to. If these corporations want to keep up with their ability to access money, they've gotta push whatever nonsense that BlackRock & Vanguard want pushed. And what I would like to know, why is it that this issue has never (or hardly) been brought up by channels such as WCBS, Geeks & Gamers, Nerdrotic....etc?

  • @kenamaro3942

I talked to my neighborhood bar's manager and asked him about Budweiser and AB sales in the bar. They've cratered. They are going through maybe a quarter of the stuff on tap as they used to. The distributor is going to have to buy back the unsold beer. I think that also applies to retail sales (6 packs and cases). So the distributors are going to have to take a loss on that beer as well. People also aren't buying AB at sponsored events. If you run a stadium, arena, or any sort of large venue where beer is sold, those beer sales represent a lot of profit. So there's going to come a reckoning between how many taps and how much cooler space is going to the sponsor's product when it's just going to sit. People will drink Bud if that's all that's available or all that's left... usually. But that's changed.
Perhaps this is a wake-up call to Wall Street to get out of cultural issues and identities as branding and marketing. I don't want to identify with my beer's thoughts and views. I want to drink it... possibly to excess. Can we just get back to a consumer economy?

The Bud Light partnership with Mulvaney was obnoxious and the way/s they responded just made it worse.
People like to pretend that _"Conservatives are mad over a trans person on a beer can"_ when it's actually so much more than that.
Dylan Mulvaney isn't "just a trans person" on aa beer can; you stop being "just a trans person" when you have a sit down with the President of the United States.
Dylan Mulvaney is an activist. Dylan Mulvaney is a _movement;_ a movement based on the foundation of Mulvaney being a woman and children being able to medically transition.
Most of Dylan's core audience isn't even old enough to _buy_ beer, so this obviously wasn't just a regular advertisement to reach out to new buyers.
No, it was a very clear political statement meant to display which values Bud wants to publicly align itself with. They thought they'd be winning the approval of the Left and the LGBT "community" as a whole.
Perhaps they thought the partnership would slip by their regular customers and they could simply add the Left to their consumer base without losing anyone else. Who knows.
But most people don't like Dylan Mulvaney or what he represents. Most people don't agree with the direction things are going, particularly with regards to children which is one of the things Mulvaney is most vocal about.
Most people don't want to give their money to a company that hates them. Most importantly, most people don't want to give their money to a company who will use it to fund the social war FOR child sex changes.
