    Grivel Releases the new Dark Machine and Dark Machine X ice tools for fall 2019. The have an all carbon handle and a carbon wrapped aluminum shaft. This dramatically reduces the overall weight of the tools and it moves the weight toward the head of the tool for a more efficient swing. The Dark Machine and Dark Machine X are very similar in construction, the main difference being that the Dark Machine X has a much more aggressive handle design, making ideal for very steep ice, mixed, and competition climbing. The more moderate Dark Machine still has an offset handle for climbing WI3+ but is not as aggressive as the "X" version. The Dark Machine will be the lightest "T" rated ice tool on the market. The carbon handle is quite small to prevent pumping out. The production version will have a wrap on the handle and the thin nature of the handle makes it possible to add material to accommodate different size hands.

    I have seen those tools in ISPO Munich in Germany. Really nice ones! I really like the picks.

    I like the look of the Dark Machine X. I only hope that Grivel make the handle long enough to fit those of us with XL size hands.

    Who did ya'lls intro?? Love it! It's so professional, so catchy. You've been around for a while and I've heard that intro as long as I can remember, even looking back on older videos. It's such a great little tune. It is memorable, sounds good, has the right amount of instrumental diversity, but also somehow conveys the spirit of the chanel. It doesn't sound like it's for a cereal or a podcast or something. It absolutely matches what this channel is. Props to whoever developed the intro! And even to the team member who found the specific composer to create the intro. Which is how I imagine it happened? Or was it made internally?

      Great questions Matt! The main beats were actually found on www.premiumbeat.com. It took Andreas days of listening to samples to narrow down the choices to a top 20, and we agreed this track had the best qualities. The composer, Peter McIsaac, had a few different places the song could go (8 main loops) and Andreas made our own version of the song by mixing together Peters samples. We picked this tune because of very similar reasons you mentioned above. It was catchy but not too catchy. It was diverse but not so diverse that it would distract. And perhaps most importantly, it was upbeat enough that it would help move through the videos even if the presenter wasn't keeping up the same energy--or if a presenter did bring a ton of energy, it wouldn't hold them back.
      I haven't thought about our intro in a looong time, but now that the memory has been rekindled there are so many other small details that are coming to mind. Like, I a total sucker for driving bass beats. And, the idea of handclaps in the intro is really awesome because, to me, it represents a community feel. The instruments are collaborative and work off each other instead of standing out as one. It feels like a unique combination of strong yet inviting. Playful and confident. Laid back yet determined. So many small details to make it fit! -AD

      @@dj_hunter Thanks for the feedback! We've definitely had debates about the timing, so it's helpful to hear opinions, other than our own. The next time we create a new intro, it will be shorter :) -AD

    Had a pair of Mountain Technology axes in the 80s that were as light.

      Hah! Perhaps we're coming full circle, along with the addition of a proper handle and bent shaft.

    Is it possible to clip a leash to that small hole at the bottom of the handle of the x?

    How do these climb compared to the tech machine?

  • @isabellam1936

    The handle looks a lot smoother and a lot less grippy than other axes. Does anyone have experience with this part of the axe? It makes me pause.

    Boy do those tools look good. Shame that I don't have a reason to buy them (not that I could afford to anyways).

    What is the release date of the dark machines? Only the X's are available right now.

    • @WeighMyRack
      @WeighMyRack  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Release date is now-ish, but there are SUPER limited quantities worldwide. Grivel is sending a few pairs to distributors around the world currently. Right now athletes and such are just starting to get their hands on them. Jan 2020 is looking more likely for consumer availability (if you're in the US, a shipment needs to come from overseas before proper US distribution). -AD

      Yes, they're selling out almost as fast as they come in! We do keep track of where they're stocked on WeighMyRack.com, and right now we have one buying option listed for the Dark Machine (weighmyrack.com/IceTool/grivel-dark-machine-wice-vario) but no buying options for the Dark Machine X at the moment.
      I'll check in with the US distributor and see if I can get some details about when the next shipment is coming in so you can be vigilant around that time period.
