This solves the problem that I have with a fully fretless sound: The attack on the low end. I always feel that the lower notes don't cut through the mix very well. Without the frets, I think it's too hard to get that clean attack. That's not a problem on the higher pitches that naturally cut through the mix. This is the best of both worlds. Really cool idea!
Frets do offer more attack, though fretless basses demonstrate that it's quite possible to get good attack without them as well, given the right setup of the action, choice of strings and playing technique. IMO a bigger problem with fretless is lack of sustain, particularly on the _high_ notes. Presumably the steel fingerboards Vigier uses help a lot in that regard.
@@leftaroundabout One other idea could be to use a sustainiac. There's also a fretless guitarist out there who likes using an e-bow with his fretless, which makes it sound almost like a traditional middle eastern instrument.
@@cancan460 indeed! - In fact I turned one of the PUs on my cheap fretless guitar into something like a sustainiac. But it's just not quite the same - a guitar that has good sustain by itself will always be more flexible to use, more dynamic to play, more responsive, than if the sustain is achieved with electronic tricks.
Kinda seems like more people should "challenge" Paul Reed Smith or ask him for unusual things, he can clearly deliver and he was more than a good sport about it. Judging by how Paul is in videos, I'd bet be didn't want to sign it right away because he knows he'd engineer a way to make it even better.🤣

I've never heard a guitar solo that sounded so alien and at home in a mid-tempo pop arrangement - it's almost like glitch synth version of a guitar solo. I can't stop listening to it.
The transition between the two halves of the neck reminds me of throwing the pickup switch for different runs and phrasing styles. feels like you naturally switched to another tone.
I feel like this is a test. Paul is gauging interest by way of Tyler to see if they should release this guitar into production. Tyler, send this to your TH-cam crew!

It already sounds bloody epic, but after this job, it's probably gonna sound blinkin' INSANE! I can't wait, so thank you very much! BTW, I hope this vid gets over a million views, like you want it to!! 😆*

I have only just seen this and it has blown me away. This guitar has so many great things going for it, you need to make more music with this as that solo you did with it was amazing. I’d love to hear more from this. Great job!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍
First of all, amazing video and that you got THE Paul Reed Smith is just beyond amazing. However, I think there's a conceptual misunderstanding here. When playing the non-fretless part, you actually aim your fingers *between* two frets. Like you wanna play an a on the e string, you aim and push down between the 4th and 5th fret. This is because the string swings between the bridge and the fret. When playing fretless, you aim where the *actual fret would be*, not the space in between. This is why you sound off sometimes. Because you are pushing the string down on the fretboard and that needs to be at the same spot where the actual fret would be. The swinging part of the string ends between your fingers and the neck this time. I hope that made sense, English isn't my first language.

There really isn’t anything that compares to the feel of a core level PRS. Best feeling guitar I’ve ever played, and it isn’t close.
@H W I have one and it’s one of the best guitars I’ve ever played
@H W there's always one person...
@H W what evidence do you have to support this claim?
The song at the end gave me goosebumps! Christ :P

ITS OVER 1 MIL TYLER. TIME TO GET IT SIGNEDDDDDD
That thing is sick...It's gotta go production. PRS can't let that be a one-off.
You know when they say: "don't just copy other players, find your own voice"? You just found a beautiful extension to your own voice, Tyler. And that is an excellent tune, well done!👌
Got Damn boy, I got goosebumps. Those organic-sounding highs are how I always imagined the perfect electric guitar would sound.
I've never heard a guitar solo that sounded so alien and at home in a mid-tempo pop arrangement - it's almost like glitch synth version of a guitar solo. I can't stop listening to it.
One E-bow away from NEVER leaving the house.
next pandemic: e-bow-la
@@Cubance noice
The transition between the two halves of the neck reminds me of throwing the pickup switch for different runs and phrasing styles. feels like you naturally switched to another tone.
Just found your channel. Playing guitar for 30 years this this is the most amazing thing ever.
"I'm not a fretless guitar player" *proceeds to be a fretless guitar player*
Anybody: here is a weird guitar
Music is win: yes
I feel like this is a test. Paul is gauging interest by way of Tyler to see if they should release this guitar into production. Tyler, send this to your TH-cam crew!

over a million views, send it back
*starts eyeing up PRS SE on the wall that needs refinishing*.
9:28 dood.....chills on those slides.
We need this on spotify and apple music 🎶 What you created at the end sounds amazing!
*Hi, Music Is Win. I'm SO GLAD YOU UPLOADED THIS VIDEO! This has really made my day! I'm thinking about making my Telecaster half-fretted. What I'll do, though is keep the first 12 frets and fill in the rest with wood filler. My Tele also has only 1 pickup in it! The neck pickup and it's a humbucker. It already sounds bloody epic, but after this job, it's probably gonna sound blinkin' INSANE! I can't wait, so thank you very much! BTW, I hope this vid gets over a million views, like you want it to!! 😆*
I thought this would sound weird, but it's incredible. It really does sound like a slide. Badass. This channel is great, Tyler. Cheers!
I normally scoff at at all new guitar designs and innovations and go "redesign of the spoon, man.. the guitar is already invented", but this.. this is truly interesting and innovative, and judging from the sounds, it works! Thanks, man, good video!
@Toxic Potato THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID YOU ENDLESS BOGHANDLE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
*faints*
Freaking unbelievable! This needs to be a 10 minute song, period! 🤟
I have only just seen this and it has blown me away. This guitar has so many great things going for it, you need to make more music with this as that solo you did with it was amazing. I’d love to hear more from this. Great job!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍
So Paul should prepare to sign this fretless masterpiece!!!
Tyler: "If I have you on speed dial, why would I want to do anything else than what we're doing now?"
Paul: *dog noise*
Am I the only one who feels like this could be something out of Steve Vai's imagination?
Totally - my first thought was Steve Vai when I heard the main lick
Total Gemini mindset
I was gonna say the same thing
Over a Million! Loved the impromptu riff to show off some of the capabilities.
8:17 "I'm gonna learn this thing real quick..."
like every begginer after holding a guitar for 5 seconds
This is a normal design scheme on a medieval lute
Paul went Medieval on Tyler with this one.
I just love your composition!

You are literally paving the way for a whole new genre. Can’t wait to see what Else this amazing invention brings. 👍👍
