    I grew up in Iran and culturally with every dish they put fermented veggies, sour yogurt, cut up raw onions and selection of leafy herbs. Every dish is made starting with onions. At the market, every meat, vegetables, fruit, everything is organic. There is no “organic vs regular” section. People who go there to visit, love the food so much and eat so much and still lose weight.

    At lockdown I started making my own kefir from grains and Reuteri yogurt as per Dr William Davies. The difference to my bowels and stomach was startling so I went on to make souerkraut and cultured veg. I now culture mayonnaise as well as it lasts in the fridge for several weeks and is delicious. I fit it all into my eating window and feel so much better. I’m 72 years old and with all that my arthritis and bursitis is massively better 🇬🇧

    Prior to finding you. I was working on fixing my acid reflux and getting off of Omeprazole, I started eating celery every time I was having problems and a small amount of fennel seeds after every meal. In India it is common to have fennel after a meal. I was shocked by how much this helped me. No more antacids necessary. Fixed that stomach biome. I would love to learn more about the gut zoomer program.

    TH-cam put this video in my lineup, "Recommended for You," and boy, am I glad it did! I have been fasting 20 hours/day and following a keto lifestyle since around Father's Day 2016. I've been using a pro/prebiotic supplements in capsule form, taking it with my asparagus or Brussels sprouts, cooked/pickled cabbage, or my leafy dark green salad. It is is good to know that it's okay to have certain pro/prebiotic dairy. I'll listen to this video over and over, until I get it down pat. It kinda blows my mind, but hey, "Variety is the spice of life," so I'm happy to learn of new foods I can add in. Thanks for this terrific video, Dr. Mindy, and thank you, TH-cam!

    In addition to sauerkraut we do a lot of fermented beetroots(we drink mostly “juice”/liquid part of it) here in Poland :-) Both are awesome for overall health and microbiom. Fermented beetroots are low on carbs and do not spike glucose and insulin as not fermented ones and they lower high blood pressure even better.

    Thanks Dr. Mindy! Happy to have found you here on YT. @ 60yrs. old, I have lost 30lbs in just over 7 weeks through a combination of clean and mindful eating, intermittent fasting, and alternate day fasting (un-modified). I initially set out on a path to eating keto, but soon found I just couldn't muster the drive to continue as I didn't like the way I felt (keto flu...) and so had to settle for a mere low-carb approach to eating. Now, presumably somewhat better fat adapted, I'm looking to have another go at keto -- if only to change things up a bit as my weight loss and motivation seem to have stalled a bit. To those ends, this video piqued my curiosity, but I'm struggling a bit with the math. At 50 grams ea. of protein and carbs 4 calories per gram, and 60% of calories from fat, it looks like you're advocating a 1000 calorie diet. What am I missing?

I make sauerkraut at home - It is so easy to make and takes like 30 min of active cabbage chopping and about 72 hours of passive fermenting. You can make enough amount for two-three month and store it in the fridge. There is no need to buy it in plastic package.

    Thanks for this useful information, it helped me to decide to get more fermented products. I am temporarily in another country and just ordered kefir grains, buffalo yogurt, and kombucha to add to my homemade lacto pickles and kvass and apple cider vinegar. Homemade is very inexpensive. compared to the stores and can be made in a few days even if you just have carrots and salt. Bubbies does make a few 100 percent raw products in a pinch and Trader Joes has a raw kraut that is inexpensive although in plastic.

    🥺 Sadly, I am violently allergic to dairy. My doctor advised avoiding dairy. I'm like, "Really?" I'm from the Midwest, I've been consuming dairy, butter and cheese since infancy."🙄 I tried it. My thyroid came back online (I've been on thyroid replacement medicaiton for 35 years), I no longer need thyroid or blood pressure medication.🤯 My body is - fitfully and with many setbacks - beginning to process carbs properly with no huge blood sugar spikes. (doctors had me on huge doses of injected insulin for over 35 years, as well). I would LOVE to use raw cream, kefir, yogurt, etc. Can I just take a probiotic pill or something, since I can't take the dairy?

    I thought wine wouldn't be allowed in keto because the ethanol may interfere with the synthesis of ketone in the liver, as soon as any ethanol is present the liver will prioritize the metabolism of ethanol to detox the body first, before doing anything else. The other thing that I wonder is that ethanol is also a form of energy from carb, will this increase your carb intake and may kick you out of ketosis? Thanks so much for your clarification on this!

    Just because the sauerkraut is sold in glass does NOT mean that it was fermented in glass. I suspect that many home crafters that sell at farmers markets ferment their kraut in 5-gallon plastic pails like the kind you see in bakeries. The best scenario would be to ferment in ceramic crocks or stainless steel.

    • @username00009
      @username00009 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you're supposed to use stainless steel with any ferment.

    You dont need to add sugar to wine! The ripper the fruit the higher the sugar content. Alcohol will = approximately 1/2 the sugar bricks. 28 bricks = 14 % alcohol when fully converted. Higher % richer flavors come out.

    Dr Mindy could you please do a presentation on how what children under 15 eat changes their guts? I cannot get my boys to eat most of the items you have on the table there... it’s really frustrating... why don’t teenagers like to try new tastes, bitter foods and fermented... is it a thing related to what’s in their gut? Mine aren’t displaying any very problematic behaviour that indicates a disregulation but I worry about what I haven’t done for them over the past 10 years when I lost control of their eating choices ... I’m trying to put emphasis for them on meats
