No problem. It’s really not hard once you get the hang of it. Just not water much after dividing so you don’t end up with root rot. In no time you will have new growth. Best of luck
Just came across your video! I love the shallow round pots! They are not only beautiful but practical for a snake plant! Great idea! I will definitely try that! Thank you for the video! Would love an update!
Hey thanks for the compliments. The pots work great for the snake plants for sure. The plants grew to fully fill out the pot again since the video and has been recently divided and the babies were sold at my plant sale. Check back for many more plant episodes. Do you have anything in particular your wanting to see?
I have a pot with 2 plants that I need to separate and I was (am) so scared of ripping off the roots 😂 I see you going here and there wow! I saw 3 buds at the very bottom I didn’t know what they were, but now I know. Thank you. Very informative video.
Hi I am in California. I had a broken snake plant leaf so I cut it and planted it in a small container. It took a long time but it has two plants growing from the side. Also it’s outside.
So helpful! I have a snake plant that needs to be propagated soon, it's been the one plan that never quits on me which I love. It's overgrowing its little pot, but more than that, I'm wondering how to get it to be strong enough to stay standing upright verses flopping over. Any ideas?
Don’t over water. And give plenty of light. Sometimes people think they can grow in the dark and water every week. This usually is not a good idea overall.
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener Thank you - I water 'her' once every couple of weeks, and she sits next to the window, but has gotten really tall and slender, making the leaves bend down. Maybe it will be better once I re-pot!
Yea a big drainage hole. I forgot this a few days ago and ended up getting water all over my floor. It has a tray now lol. I was used to it being outside for the summer and not back inside.
I try to find pots to put in a pot if my pot doesn’t have a hole. I love the lower rounder pots, thanks for the response and videos! @@DaveTheHillsideGardener
I would take the one in the round blue basket off ur hands. I have a doorbell too. Air purifying is something I would benefit from. I especially like it coming in natural form. I am jealous of ur plant room. O bet u live in there most of ur spare time I need a plant room✌️💓
I usually lightly water to get everything settled in then let it go until it dries a bit and notice new growth. You def don’t want to have it soaking wet and stay wet with new cuts and divisions
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener thank you so much!! I have 5 seperate plants which all have atleast 4 babies each but have been terrified to separate them as when I tried to seperate my aloes all they all died including the Mumma..
Don’t keep them too wet and they should recover easily. And don’t fertilize for at least 30 days. It’s what I’ve always done and it seems to work well.
That is a possibility. Remove the plants from the soil if the roots are black or squishy then you most likely have root rot. Leave them out of the soil for 24 hrs to dry out. Then replant in only slightly damp cacti or succulent mix. Water sparingly until you see new growth.
It was just a potting mix I create. I think that particular handful had a bunch of the orchid wood chips I mix in and it sorta sounded like rocks. I also use quite a bit of perlite so that may have been it as well
I use a different blend depending on the plant. But for these plants I use 50percent promix and to that add extra perlite and some corse sand as they need excellent drainage and sitting in wet soil will kill them. I sometimes add a few scoops of orchid bark to help drainage as well.
Indoors during winter maybe every other week and allow to completely dry out. Summer I bring it outside in not in direct sunlight and water about once a week if it doesn't rain.
@dlbstl I get big bales of promix that I use at the nursery. That works well, I’d avoid the soils that say “feeds all season, etc.”. These plants don’t really need additional nutrients
Yea if not callused just don’t water them for a week. I used just barely damp soil just so something is there. Once I notice new growth I start to slowly increase the watering
The geese were cracking me up!! But seriously, I would have never thought you could do this with snake plants. Great to know for the future!
They were definitely enjoying themselves
Me too 🤣😄
wasn't sure how to do this without "hurting" the plants...watched this vid, gave it a go and couldn't believe how easy it was! THANK YOU

So glad I can help. And update, all of the divisions are growing fine with no issues.
I will try that shallow pot , very interesting. Very healthy, wondering if you treat them with fertilizer.
@rogeliomartinez2795 I use cacti and succulents fertilizer about once a month during the growing season. They don’t need much.

Yes you can definitely propagate like that but like you said it is a long process. Have you gotten yours to bloom outside yet?
When the geese started squawking, my dog was very confused 😂
That’s too funny 😂. Thanks for watching none the less
Beautiful sharing.
Thank you very much
If you live in Southern California, I'll be happy to take some off of your hands. They look so vibrant and healthy. 🤲😁
I'm pretty much on the opposite side of the country 🙂 the next time I divide them I'll send you a plant baby

@HardinRH mine are in shallow pots and I let them stay pretty crowded I think that helps keep them more stabilized
Awesome video
Thank you
Great video…do you have your plants in pots with drainage holes ? Love that what is old is new again🤗

@suemiller4897 I got them at Ollie’s. Not sure if you have those where you are for like $8
That is a great way to divide your snake plant
Thank you, it's amazing how much they grow and reproduce
Great video! - thanks for making it.
No prob at all. I’m about to make one of my aloes so check that out
Very helpful video. Wishing you Happy Holidays 2021. Cheers from the top of the mountain.
Thank you! Happy holidays

Thanks so much!!
gonna give this a whirl. The one I got is 72" tall in a 24" diameter x 18" pot which is tipping over so I have it against a wall.
Wow that’s a huge plant!! 🌱 good luck. Sounds like it’s a good time to divide it up

What is the beast soil to use? Cactus or regular potting soil?
I would take potting soil and mix coco coir and perlite. It works well for me
I just separated mine but didn’t have soil to put it in just yet so I set it in a vase with water. Will that be okay?
I wouldn't keep it in water for more than a day or so. They are susceptible to rotting as they prefer to be on the dry side
Very helpful, thank you
Glad I could help. They’re great plants to collect
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener They are indeed 😊
Please tell wat potting mix u used
Coconut coir, pumice, perlite and just standard potting mix.
I just did all the steps that you showed but now my new growth is wilting??? What can I do or is it a lost cause??
Did you water after dividing?
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener after I repotted the new growth, yes
@JenniferYniguez740 I would let it rest make sure it is not in full sun. They appreciate semi shade
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener for how long? Should I wait til it’s completely dry to water it again?
@JenniferYniguez740 I would wait yes
Potting mix is put in the pot or Potting soil?
Potting mix with perlite and vermiculite mixed in
I can just pull up my snake plant. Does that mean I have too much water?
That is a possibility. Remove the plants from the soil if the roots are black or squishy then you most likely have root rot. Leave them out of the soil for 24 hrs to dry out. Then replant in only slightly damp cacti or succulent mix. Water sparingly until you see new growth.
Pretty plant
Thank you
What did you place in the bottom of the first plant? Sounded like rocks
It was just a potting mix I create. I think that particular handful had a bunch of the orchid wood chips I mix in and it sorta sounded like rocks. I also use quite a bit of perlite so that may have been it as well
How do you get it to grow so much? Mine grow so slowly
Mine gets sunlight all day long. I let it dry then thoroughly water and fertilize once a month. Other than that it’s pretty much hands off.
How deep do you plant the snake plant in the compost? Thanks
Not more than an inch. You don’t want them buried at all really as it has fine surface roots and will suffer from waterlogged or saturated soil
What type of soil do you use and does your pots have holes in the bottom?
I make my own mix. Check out my video I made on succulent soil from scratch. th-cam.com/video/JCYDzwK5e4g/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the tips

Thank you for the video ☺️
You're welcome, thanks for watching
My snake plants are much much taller than yours. About 3 ft tall. Should it still go in a shallow pot?
I think they do best that way. They actually want to be root bound. A big and deep pot will hold too much water and can lead to rotting.
How many times do you water this plant in a week or is it every week
Indoors during winter maybe every other week and allow to completely dry out. Summer I bring it outside in not in direct sunlight and water about once a week if it doesn't rain.
They very much prefer to be watered once every one or two months
Should I put this plant in sun light ? I want to put my Plant in the room but plant is not survive 😢
Yes partial shade or a sunny window inside will be fine. Don’t put in full direct sunlight out doors though
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener thank you so much love from Delhi 😘
What kind of soil?
You can use regular potting soil as a base but I add perlite or coconut coir to lighten the soil. They cannot be waterlogged or heavy soil.
Love the geese 😂
Hehehh thought I’d add that for a laugh. Glad you enjoyed
@@DaveTheHillsideGardenerwow thank you! Is this just regular potting soil?

Awsome

What kind of potting soil did you use?
I like the Ocean Forest potting mix. I sometimes will add worm castings or compost to that if I have some handy.
Wtf is with the duck noises 🤣🤣🤣
My friend dared me to add them as a joke. You're the first to ever comment about it. 😂
Geese…
Why do these plants do so good in those ugly plastic containers? I have beautiful pots but they do better in the ugly plastic ones!!
Use shallow ceramic pots. It’s what works best for me
Realized half way through doing this that I didn’t let the pieces callus… but I see you didn’t either so hopefully it’s all good! 🥹
Yea if not callused just don’t water them for a week. I used just barely damp soil just so something is there. Once I notice new growth I start to slowly increase the watering

Coconut coir, perlite and I use Fox Farms ocean forest and mix all 1/3 ratio
