"I've always found the front wheel to be well planted". What a brilliantly way to describe it. It does sound odd, but ride one and you'll know EXACTLY what that means.
I liked your video so much that next week I’m going from N. Ireland to Cornwall, to Ocean Falmouth BMW Motorrad no less, to pick up a 2019 R 1250 RT LE. I then have to ride 553 miles to Scotland to catch the ferry home. It’s a good job it’s a luxury tourer!
I’ve owned several BMW motorcycles through the years. My first was a 1979 R65 that I purchased in 1984. I took a 20 year hiatus from riding, than purchased a 2003 1150 R. Drove that for several years then purchased a new 2007 1200R. Over the last decade I’ve had a 2009 and a 2010 rt. The real noticeable change in performance and handling came when I purchased a new 2015 RT. I rode the 2015 for about 4 years, putting approximately 30k trouble free miles on it. I took delivery in November 2018 of a new 1250Rt. I honestly did not think there wasn’t much to be improved upon, and questioned my sanity for replacing the 2015 with a newer model. However the new model is bit more responsive, the transmission seems to operate smoother than my previous bike. Obviously I’m a fan of the German engineering! This is the Bentley of motorcycles! Priced like one too.
I’m biased on the RT and dang proud of it. It’s the best handling bike I’ve ever ridden and I LOVE IT. The GSA was my only other consideration but the comfort and convenience features won me over to the RT and besides, many police department motor units use this bike for law enforcement. That says a lot. Thanks for the honest and brilliant review!
thanks for the kind words matey. totally agree with you, if the emergency services use them, they must be good. they don't use them for no reason :) . Great choice buddy.... ride safe :)
The RT has evolved massively over the years. I had a 1981 RT and used it daily but boy was it a different beast! You got used to it tank slapping and having to fettle the carbs every few weeks and learned to love the thing for its simplicity. Downsides were poor handling by today's standards and it's propensity for eating wheelbearings, those self cracking cast alloys and the ptfe front metzler lazer tyres! I love the seating position and screen on the new RT but ended up with 2016 gsa instead and don't regret it. Mra screen and a few other bolt ons and it just does everything needed. Keep the great vids lads!
Just watched this a second time a year or so later. Very good. I agree with most of what was said. It’s a very comfortable bike for a passenger / pillion.
Toby, I’m with you love the screen on the RT. I have gone from a 2012 RT to a 2017 GSA and as good as the GSA screen is I do miss the electronic screen, used it all the time on my RT. Great vid chaps thanks for sharing. Just started my IAM, had my first observed ride last week, happy days. 👍🏍
Hey Ian, thank you so much for the kind words, we both really love making videos and having fun while we do it. Gotta love that screen! why isnt it on the GSA?? eek! Fab news about the IAM matey, best of luck. remember to enjoy and your ride will get better and better..... like you say, happy days :)
Another great video. Great views of Falmouth have only been there once to that car park at Pendennis. I also no the know the building there very well the one right in front of you with the big aerial as they are my Operations Centre. So that was a great surprise see them in your video. Like to say well done to all HMC teams that helped with the ship on Falmouth beach. 👍🏻
Great video ! If only I could afford to buy one. Currently rise an 08 GS and love it. That said it literally took me years to like a Boxer engine having ridden 4 cylinders. Had a mad moment last year and sold a GS to buy a Crosstourer and within 2 months realised my mistake and traded it in for an older GS. Missed the character & torque of a Boxer engine plus the divine cornering ability of a GS. Never gonna make that mistake again. Now where's that Lottery ticket I brought last Saturday !
thanks Ted. The boxer engine takes some getting used to, but it is an amazing power machine... i feel your pain about the bike as i want one too! but the lottery ticket illudes me too :(
Very honest review indeed. I ride a 2019 R1250RT and mo other bike I’ve test ridden for fun over the last 2 years holds a candle to it.....except yesterday, when I test rode a K1600B. Both bikes are excellent, but of course RT is more nimble. However, if I was taking a long distance trip with more than 4 hours per day in the saddle, I would prefer the K1600b. PL
Great vid guys, thanks for that. I've got a '16 RT and love it, so I'm not sure about upgrading while that's still in its prime. Not quite enough to make me rush out and buy the 1250. When the time comes to change though... You are dead right about the horn - I fitted a Stiebel from Nippy Normans which grabs peoples attention and makes me feel a bit more secure (apart from when the duff relay stuck it on). There's only one thing that REALLY winds me up on mine; the central locking does not include the sat nav. A right wind up when you stop briefly to fill up or grab a coffee and have to take the Nav with you. Not sure if they have sorted this on the new one. It will be interesting to see what comes when the RT is due for a revamp.
with you on that one Kev... i cannot understand why the Sat Nav is not lockable! they cost enough to secure and its a pain to remove it every single time.. fingers crossed they do something about it but im not holding much hope :)
Those Mirrors started on Honda Pacific Crest! And yes they are great. Really like your review. . .would love your thoughts on the K1600 GTL, which seem to be the same bike with a different engine. . .
Russell Locke I’m is the same boat, struggling between the GS and the RT. I’m a short rider so the GS is a bit intimidating for me on tip toes. My buddies are riding. Ducati Multistradas and are saying to go for the GS they can do it all. I’m concerned most about a comfortable ride on those long 4K mile trips on the GS. Having never owned a GS it concerns me. Your take ?
Joaquin long rides on the GS are fine. It is a comfortable bike. I regularly think about that RT , but then in my real world riding on some pretty dodgy Australian road surfaces, I’m glad I’m on the GS. It handles very well & if I choose to do some more adventure riding then it’s simply a change of tyres. I’m 6’4” so I kind of fit well on the beast, however when two up & fully loaded I am quite aware that it is even higher off the ground when you set the controls for two up. You just need to adjust & plan ahead with where & how you stop. I don’t have the low seat and leave my seat in the high position for maximum room for my long legs. I love it and every time I ride it I hop off with a huge smile on my face.
Russell Locke Thanks for your input. I love the creature comforts of the RT, but I’m probably going to go with the GS because it’s overall a more versatile machine that can run tarmac and dirt roads.
I liked the review even though there were definite biased comments in it about another bike not being reviewed. 😉 Being a Yankee, I find that my cousins across the pond do much better reviews than my brothers do over here. I'm looking to purchase one of these RTs used, so I'm watching old reviews on them. Are there any long term issues that people have found with these?
The size and the shape of the panniers? Any bigger you can't filter, it's a challenge now. I have a GSA I opted for soft collapsible panniers that are perfect for filtering in traffic and carrying just what I need on a fire road or trail. I think the RT is not a very attractive bike at all. Yet there are people who enjoy driving anything that seems functional over style & form.
Big fan of RTs. I've owned 4 different generations of them. Last one was the 2015 model. I can't cough up the dough for one right now. I just bought a 2012 K1600GT which I found surprisingly similar to sit on, way it feels balanced within itself. Anyway, bad audio aside, prejudice, spot on ;).
I believe this is a great video of watching probably one of the best realistic two guys talking about a bike to be honest I pick up up a new bike on 3 November 8, 2020 RT and I am so excited about that
Traded my 1200 GSA for the 1200 RT back last July, a lovely bike to ride, great in bad weather. hoping to put some serious miles on it this year. If I am honest, @ 6' 2" tall I find my legs are bent just a little bit too much for real comfort, especially after riding Adventure bikes, but it won't spoil my riding fun. Good objective review as always.
Never use the radio. Have the GPS. . .but BMW headphones etc. truly suck. . .pulled it all out and now am happy with aftermarket communicators with Apple Play. . .$4oo bucks I would not spend, but GPS is great, as a backup, but I have a RAM that holds my phone and I use Pandora and Waze. . .
Nice video guys, just a small request - could you please use some anti-shake algorithms on your videos, because the head shake while you are talking and riding makes it dizzying after while... other than that great as always, thanks for the review!
I had a 90 Jahre (2013) edition for 3 years. Great for touring, but I got fed up flattening out the tyres on the trunk roads out of the South West. I ended up thinking I might as well use a car. I now use a Triumph T120 for more local trips, but more than enough for trips around Brittany.
Great review... one of very few 1250RT reviews out there, so, thanks! I'm sure you've discovered by now that the 1250RT isn't 'new' bike but rather a 'facelift' with a new engine - however not even much on the facelift side either. I guess the RT was just so good looking in the first place. ;)
very capable bike indeed, although depends what you want i guess. I would have one in a heartbeat, but the bank manager may say no and my GSA does everything i need :)
FJR is lovely to drive, but you wanna go touring or pack on a pillion, it just doesn’t do as well with the weight... The RT has the greater mac weight allowance, making it far better both for touring (if you’re packing the world) or for taking your partner on the back.
I wanted the TFT display, so only the new 1250 GSA had it, so I opted for the GSA. BMW is nuts for not offering a TFT on their new RTs, I am sure they will offer it in 2020 to force people to upgrade!!
I am considering an RT. I live in a very hot climate, and some airflow on the body while riding is welcome on hot days. Do you think the RT airflow is more restricted as compared to a GS or GSA? Great videos by the way.
The GS gives much better airflow compared to the RT stock screen. You can get a lower aftermarket "summer" screen, which is what I switch to when weather starts to get above 20C
The gloss black Givi Maxia topboxes look great on the black RTs....and cost a fraction of the price. Recently switched to a 14 R1200RT from a 1150RT, slightly concerned about the seat....might have to invest in an air hawk....
Toby, Toby, Toby, what are you doing to me? Just over 12 months ago I traded my 15 GSA for a 17 RT and you did a review on your GSA, which had me questioning myself. I just traded the RT for an 18 GSA, just like Marks and now this, you’re killing me! Have to say I couldn’t fault the RT except for one thing, it’s not a GS! Ideally I would own both but can’t complain. Enjoyed the vid, take care.
Hey Mick, thanks so much for the kind words.. I know exactly what you mean.. If BMW would combine the RT and the GSA they would have the perfect machine! Im the same as you (although i havent changed bike) i want one i want one i want one, but the man at the bank, he says no :( basically as i dont want to get rid of the GSA
My husband and I are doing the motorcycle safety course in our country, Trinidad and Tobago. We love the BMW r1250 rt and the k1600b. Because of our long limbs, we rather touring/cruiser bikes. What would you recommend as a beginner bike for us? We are 5'9" and 6'4 " respectively.
the RT, although you can change the seat height, the GSA douns like it might be a good fit.. the 1600 is also very good and you should comfortable on that too.. as they are expensive, id pop into a dealer and try them and see what works best for you :) Ride safe and enjoy the safety course
Great review, and thank you. I've always felt the RT is the unsung hero in BMW's range, being overshadowed in sales by the Charlie Boorman, Ewan McGregor influenced GS/GSA. I was very surprised to find at a BMW sponsored event re the release of the previous GSA, how many quote "old men" were riding the GS, but had absolutely no intention whatsoever of ever taking them off road - mainly because of the increased danger of having a fall. Which is a very real and relevant concern - as you get older it is much harder to recover from injury, and the chance of a fall during off road riding is much higher than on-road. But clearly the marketing image of the freedom to ride wherever and whenever with the GS/GSA, drives sales, even if the reality of usage is somewhat different. My only issue with the RT is that in Australia, with summer temperatures quite commonly in the 40's whether one would be comfortable enough with the decreased airflow with the RT screen v's a GS/GSA. Having said that, I've read enough research on the subject to understand that once you go over 33ºC, the effect of the very hot ambient airblast is to actually increase your body temperature through convection heating, rather than evaporative cooling, so in some ways the extra wind protection of the RT is actually a plus, even in extremely hot conditions. Overall I would say, that unless you want to do serious off roading, and perhaps only tackle a bit of gravel or unmade road either to a campsite, or perhaps the foreground of a hotel, the RT is possibly the better choice where one is touring predominately on road, over a GS/GSA. Certainly as a potentially returning, 'older' rider, the extra creature comforts of the RT greatly appeal over the more spartan, off road appeal of the GS. Besides, the local constabulary, many in their 20's ride them, and have no issue stopping hoons on their crotch rocket 1,000 CC in line four sports bikes; so much for quote "old mens bikes" then..lol... Cheers and thanks again for a great review and channel - one of the best! :-)
What I found on the RT is that I would rather be on a GS from 80 (26.5 C) to 95 (35 C) and the RT when its hotter than that. Not having that hot airblast you are more comfortable and cooler on a long ride on the RT
thanks Lyn. I know, a little disappointing really on such an expensive bike, although the dash is lovely and so far (in my opinion) not out of dat e yet
I’m struggling right now with choosing the GS over the RT as I look for a new bike that can take me touring in smooth comfort across the USA. Having never own a BMW of either flavor it’s a tough decision, your advice would be greatly appreciated. Nice video thanks for sharing.
thanks for the kind words Joaquin. Its always a tough decision between the GS and RT, although they will both do you proud. The RT will provide more wind protection and you will be sitting more on the bike. The panniers are shaped so although great, they will lose some space for packing, purely for their shape, whereas the GS boxes are square and easier to pack. Having said that the RT top box is massive! The RT has the option of a radio which the GS doesnt. On the GS you will be sitting more in the bike, but both have the same engine and much the same characteristics, and the GS would be more at home on offroad too, if you were to do any. That said they will both do the same thing and you will love them both, it may come down the the heated seat on the RT and the creature comforts such as adjustable screen, radio and styling.... but both will be great. I know not much of a biased comment here from us, but they are both just incredible machines...enjoy your choice though :)
RiderCamTV thanks for your input of the RT/GS choice dilemma , I’ll have to give it some serious consideration, my riding buddies have the luxury of having multiple bikes touring and adventure to choose to ride. I can only afford one bike and so since the GS is the more versatile machine from that perspective I may need to go with it.
Great informative video - had a 2012 RT and loved it but since had 2 x R1200 GSA's and I am toying with the idea of the 1250 RT - I am of the same opinion as you guys though I like the top loading rugged luggage on the GSA and my wife finds the GSA nice and comfortable whereas she felt a little cramped on the RT. Topbox price is a killer on the RT too.
They need to update to the current technology, they have NOT changed anything but added 50 more cc's. 2014 is the same as 2020. Still using bulbs instead of LED lights, still analog gauges. Way behind other MFG's for technology. RT is a great motorcycle I have a 2016 with 170k miles very dependable!! They need to step up and get with the times!!
I think BMW hired some Honda engineers who worked on their 6 cilinder boxer for the Goldwing. Indeed, I had to look at my dashboard to see whether 1st gear was in. As far as the panniers concerns, they are designed to work perfectly with the (extra) inner bags, hence the wraps inside. I had those cases on my old 1200R, they are great. And let's face it, if you cannot take sufficient luggage on these bikes, it's time to add 2 more wheels. Or better..... leave your wife home. When are you testing the 1250 GSA?
top stuff matey.. know what you mean, although for the touring we do, opening the panniers from the top to help clients on the way does mean we dont have to take everything out everytime.... get why have designed them like that though ;)
Nice bike. Do you still have to tear the engine half apart to grease the drive shaft or did they fix that? I wish they would do something with that antenna.
As always gents a great video and on your old review stomping ground Penzance Point, and of course the Ice Cream van is still there. As an owner of a second hand 2014 RT i was hoping they would upgrade a lot more than they did like back light the switch gear and get rid of the ariel and give to option of a TFT screen. So would i upgrade to the 1250 no. But may go for the 2018 version..i hear the prices are coming down due to the intro of the 1250. But i love my RT and now that we've come to an understanding over the last year and Ive bought her a few presents (Roadhawk bike cam/ louder horn & Aux lights) i really dont want to change...although.
thanks you so much for the kind words Michael. gotta love the RT. As you say, now the 1250 is here hopefully the price of the 1200's will reduce so they can sell them and in turn we get a better bargain...
Just re-visiting this excellent video review. A quick question if I may. Would you be able to ride this bike along unmade/unpaved roads? By this I mean the usual loose gravel over dirt. Some people consider that off road riding, but being pedantic, an unmade/unsealed road is still a road; off road is traversing terra firma where no road exists, - so grass, muddy trails, rocky ground etc. From that POV and with a 17" front wheel v's the 19" of a GS/GSA, I wonder how much worse, if at all, an RT would be compared to a GS/GSA at travelling down relatively mild, reasonably well maintained unmade/unpaved gravel roads. Cheers and thanks John
Hiya! Just seen this comment so we apologise for such a long wait for a reply. I have had people while I’ve been guiding motorcycle tours ride these on unmade roads with no issue. Obviously it’s not something you would wish to do regularly but you can if needs must. Ride safe
1st off love the videos and both bikes are my absolute favorite. But what I need to know is what jacket are you wearing. Keep up the great videos. Cheers 🍻
thanks for your kind words Joe. It does mean a lot to us both. As Mark says, Toby wears the Kodiak Klim jacket and Badlands Trousers and Mark wear the Rukka
Thanks for the info guys. I ride a KTM 1090 but will be adding a RT this year at some point. I watch a lot of videos and as I said yours are done well. Thanks
10k Touring and loving my BAGGER which incidentally has Blindspot sections on both mirrors.... cracking job 😎 Great review and thanks for staying honest thinking R1250RT might be next 🤙🏻😁 Cheers Nige PS...Oh and the Bagger Horn sounds like cruise liner 😁Spot On😄
Nice vid, I had an 1100 Honda Pan with similar mirrors, they are good and I agree with your observation description. I have a 16 plate K1600 now, I never tried the RT it would be interesting to see your comparison of the two. The K1600 is a heavy bike to manhandle but once running at walking speed or over the weight disappears. Keep up the reviews, it's good to get an honest description.
I have the 2010 RT and luv it, I am afraid to test ride the 1250. I would luv to see the difference btw the gear shifting as my 2010 clunks, which the mechanics say is normal for it.
the 1250 is soooo smooth its untrue.. a slight clunk going into 1st sometimes but most of the time it is so smooth you wouldnt know you had changed gear if it were not for the gear shift indicator on the dash.. amazing
I'm desperately avoiding taking one of these for a test ride because me and my bank manager will end up having a bit of a falling out. Will be sticking with my 15 plate RT for the time being. BTW - can easily fit 15" laptop in the pannier! ;)
Is there much of a difference in the low down torque and flexibility compared to the 1200LC? I find my current 12RT is a bit lacking when I just want to keep it in a higher gear and let it flow around bends rather than attack them. My previous 11RT could do this. Am hoping the 1250 is more flexible across the rev range
it seems a little more flexible but riding in the middle 3rd rev range will sort that issue out and you will find that not only you have the torque when you need it but also the engine breaking to slow you down without touching the brakes and destabilising the bike in a corner :) Ride safe
Aerial guys, is the one on the RT, that other Ariel mentioned is a fictional character in the Little Mermaid. 🧜♀️ Sorry, just can’t take the teacher out of me. 👨🏫
I wish someone would make an analysis of the true width of these bikes. Compare a narrower bike with rider on, where the knees stick out with an RT where the bike is obviously wider in appearance, but knees are covered. Narrow bike with rider on is almost the same width with an RT with rider on.
I'm only 5' 6" tall and I have a 2003 RT, I feel that my bike is more suited to a taller rider as it is a bit high off the ground and sometimes feels like a wrestling match at low speed.. Do you think the newer models are more easier to handle for the vertically challenged .
Currently own a 2003 RT and a 2014 RT. There is a big difference when stationary - the 14 RT is lower (feet flat on ground) compared to the 03 RT which is more tips of feet (but that seat is wider). Less of a difference once rolling ...
I’m 5’4” and have a ‘15RT. The newer LC bikes are way easier to ride than the previous generation 1200s. I can ride it at walking pace without really thinking about it and it changes direction really well. Don’t have to fight it. The only complaint I could make about it is that the (low) seat is rock hard.
Can't believe they haven't put the TFT screen on it, I'm sure they will soon then the 2019 RT's will be out of date...! Regardless of what they do to it, it's still an old mans bike.
totally agree David.. All bikes need louder horns, especially now.. If drivers cant see us even if they are looking at us, what hope have we got if they cant hear us either
Great review, I test rode one last year and it did everything perfectly, and therein lies the problem. I felt it did it all too well and 'removed' the feeling that I was riding a bike! Felt more like driving a car in many ways. Can't recommend the RT enough as it is brilliant, and that's exactly why I will never buy one. Go Figure!! :-)
Bowlin01 Totally agree with you, I only do one Euro tour a year the rest of the time it's just Sunday rides. I think the 1250r (when it comes out) would suit me better. The RT is a lovely bike, just not for me it's too much like a car.
I have a ZZR1400 now but had a RT-P 1st gen last as I'm a blood biker too. The RT was easier to ride slowly than my CBR125 lol and I really miss it (started having a few reliabilty issues at 90k). Now I'm looking for RT features with ZZR torque and power, and the closest I can find is the K1600GT, which fully spec'ed is about 3k more than a fully spec'ed RT. When the time comes I'll test ride them both but at the moment my heart is set on the K1600 lol. I'd love to see you review the K1600 as you two don't seem so blown away by the toys as most of the reviews for it Interestingly most Blood bike groups now go for FJR1300s as Yamaha give them a very favourable package, but in the group I ride for until may when I turn 30 I'm stuck on lower CC bikes and currently ride an F800GT
hey buddy, thanks for the kind words. Yeah it is a lovely bike and i get what you mean about the 1600. Will be doing a review soon on that one hopefully. In Cornwall we use the RT's and they are great :)
@@RiderCamTV In Shropshire we started with ec-police RTs but when Yamaha came out with a blood bike specific model (rather than modified from a police model) a few years ago it's a no brainer. The more I'm riding the ZZR at the moment the more I'm missing the 1st gen RT. Want to get rid of my trainers and put on my comfy slippers again lol. I Think the K1600GT will be a really good compromise between the two. May get a 2nd hand one K16 at the start of 2020 just to fill in the gap before getting a brand new one. But the RTs are incredible bikes. BMW have a special formula for a sports-touring bike. I call them ST bikes as they can play with sports bikes all day but when the sports riders have pulled over for fuel we can keep going, These bikes are massively under-rated
I love your videos! I have a 2012 K1600GT, and in the past the difference in power was enough for me to not even consider an RT. My last bike was a K1300GT. With the new bike though, the performance difference is a lot less! And then there's the maintenance. I just did the spark plugs and radiator clean a few months ago, and just had to do the front wheel bearing and ball joints. The maintenance is just killing me. Maybe it's time to drop some cylinders, lose a few HP and just ride more! To see what I've been up to, and how NOT to repair your ball joints, please follow along! th-cam.com/video/jvjCrfWsVCE/w-d-xo.html -jaysbigadventure
"I've always found the front wheel to be well planted". What a brilliantly way to describe it. It does sound odd, but ride one and you'll know EXACTLY what that means.

I'm always impressed with the number of riders in England given the awful weather.
lol, thanks Ben... You cant keep a biker down!
I’m biased on the RT and dang proud of it. It’s the best handling bike I’ve ever ridden and I LOVE IT. Hey Paul, thanks for the kind words. we really appreciate them. Love the RT too and sooo tempted to get another one but the bank manager says no :(
I sold my much modified 2017 HD RoadGlide and bought a 2018 RT. Now I can drive my RT and not have the HD drive me. Excellent machine.
Decent review have not found one of any year showing the navigation system, important in the big USA. Also a cost analysis of maintenance and repairs

Really like your review. . .would love your thoughts on the K1600 GTL, which seem to be the same bike with a different engine. . .
Beautiful machine. I too was torn between the RT and the GS. Still not sure, but I bought the GS and love it.
likewise Russell. Everytime i get on the RT i want one and then my head and heart say you have one, just without the bodywork!! hahahahhaa
I did the same as you, ended up with the GS due to the fact I live on a dirt road.
I believe this is a great video of watching probably one of the best realistic two guys talking about a bike to be honest I pick up up a new bike on 3 November 8, 2020 RT and I am so excited about that
Thanks so much for the kind words Michael. Enjoy your new bike :)
@Michael... and how sad are you now when you pick up your 2020 RT and see the pictures and all the new features on the NEW 2021 RT ? 😜
Good objective review as always.
thanks for the kind words Peter. Gotta love the RT.. hope you have many happy miles on yours :)
Hey Michal, thanks so much for the comments, and we will see what we can do :)
Thanks guys, great video. You’re whetting my appetite for the 1250 engine; not for the RT, but for the GSA😃 Cheers, Andy.
hahahaha, Andy, stay tuned then.... in a few weeks there is the 1250 GSA review! Already scheduled!
Great review... one of very few 1250RT reviews out there, so, thanks! I'm sure you've discovered by now that the 1250RT isn't 'new' bike but rather a 'facelift' with a new engine - however not even much on the facelift side either. I guess the RT was just so good looking in the first place. ;)
thanks buddy... a great bike indeed! but as you say more a facelift model with a smoother engine :)
I love the RT as well. Your klim jacket looks good, thanks again guys 👍🏽
thanks for the kind words Carl. Yeah the jacket is awesome. did a review of it on the channel too ;)
The RT is a great bike much better for touring than a GS. Has a much better finish too. Will have to get a test ride on the 1250.
very capable bike indeed, although depends what you want i guess. I would have one in a heartbeat, but the bank manager may say no and my GSA does everything i need :)
I've got the goldwing 2018 dct and you would love the gear change silky smoth.
It's nice but it isn't an FJR! Great revue as always chaps, thanks very much.
thanks for the kind words Darren, loved riding this bike! OOh an FJR, we need to find one to reveiew!
Please!!! K1600 GTL test. . .I like how you think!!
I am considering an RT. I live in a very hot climate, and some airflow on the body while riding is welcome on hot days. Do you think the RT airflow is more restricted as compared to a GS or GSA? Great videos by the way.
you will get much better airflow on the GS or GSA but on the RT you can always use the power screen and lower it to get almost a naked bike effect :)
@@RiderCamTV Thanks, I am going to test ride the RT and GSA sometime this week if the rain ever stops😁
The GS gives much better airflow compared to the RT stock screen. You can get a lower aftermarket "summer" screen, which is what I switch to when weather starts to get above 20C
The gloss black Givi Maxia topboxes look great on the black RTs....and cost a fraction of the price. Recently switched to a 14 R1200RT from a 1150RT, slightly concerned about the seat....might have to invest in an air hawk....
thats true, the Givi boxes are great! an Airhawk may make things a little more comfortable :)
Mick Smith that made me laugh....
I think the combo you seek is an Indian FTR1200 Touring package.
If your gs falls over in the driveway you can just pick it up and forget that it fell over.Try doing that with your RT.
thats very true indeed! eek!
RiderCamTV thanks. Will check a dealership when we visit the U.S. A in the next month or so.
Not having that hot airblast you are more comfortable and cooler on a long ride on the RT
great info there John, thanks for that... Didnt know that it could increase your body temp... science is great isnt it... thanks for sharing :)
Good review guys but no TFT on the bike
Get the wife her own bike that's always the best option
Interesting video! Enjoyed watching from Australia!
Hey buddy, welcome! thanks for the kind words.. Hope your weather is better than ours at the moment for riding :)
Cheers and thanks
John
Hiya! Just seen this comment so we apologise for such a long wait for a reply. I have had people while I’ve been guiding motorcycle tours ride these on unmade roads with no issue. Obviously it’s not something you would wish to do regularly but you can if needs must. Ride safe
Love RT’s, nice review 👍
1st off love the videos and both bikes are my absolute favorite. But what I need to know is what jacket are you wearing. Keep up the great videos. Cheers 🍻
Joe Rouleau Toby is wearing a Klim
thanks for your kind words Joe.
Thanks
Great review....you guys are hilarious
Nice review. But I just cannot get accustomed to driving on the wrong side of the road.
depends which side of the road is the wring one!! eek!
Sound wasn’t that bad. Great video tons of info. Thanks guys
thanks buddy
10k Touring and loving my BAGGER which incidentally has Blindspot sections on both mirrors.... cracking job 😎
Great review and thanks for staying honest thinking R1250RT might be next 🤙🏻😁 Cheers Nige
PS...Oh and the Bagger Horn sounds like cruise liner 😁Spot On😄
Sound wasn't too bad you can be forgiven
I just imagine that aerial piercing your or your pillions eye socket on impact.
That was a long time talking about pockets and radios. Getting off track are we ?
Nice vid, I had an 1100 Honda Pan with similar mirrors, they are good and I agree with your observation description. I have a 16 plate K1600 now, I never tried the RT it would be interesting to see your comparison of the two. The K1600 is a heavy bike to manhandle but once running at walking speed or over the weight disappears.
Keep up the reviews, it's good to get an honest description.
hey buddy, hopefully we will get out on a K1600 soon :)
Just too good, so I’m going for another GS, this time the 1250 Adventure😝
BTW - can easily fit 15" laptop in the pannier! ;)
i know exactly what you mean.... Bank Managers!! aarrgghh!! lol. yep you can fit it in there, although with all the other kit i take i cant :(
Is there much of a difference in the low down torque and flexibility compared to the 1200LC?
hahahhhaa, thanks Russell. My dyslexia showing itself again there, but thanks for letting me know... i did chuckle when i read it :)
Smooth number 1 Min 1:54 :) Here we go again.
How are the brakes? I didn't see the distinctive Brembo signature on the callipers.
really nice, responsive and good brakes :)
Less of a difference once rolling ...
totally agree with Mrgari189. they are much lower than the GS and older RT's so you should be able to get both feet on the ground :)
Regardless of what they do to it, it's still an old mans bike.
hahaha, depends what you do with it ;)
Is that green vest like a airbag safety device?
yes mate its a Helite vest
Great review, thank you ❤👌👍👍🙏
Buy it, buy it, buy it 😬
I'd love to DervMan, but the bank manager wont like me anymore hahhahaha
RiderCamTV It’s easier to gain forgiveness than permission 😉
did you find the foot plates close to the seat? too close? closer than the GSA?
in just the right positiion really
Back in 2004 the 1150 RT had a factory option of "Twin-Horns' nice and loud....gone backwards since with options
totally agree David..
Go Figure!! :-)
Get that totally. Such an immense bike indeed..... i'd have one tomorrow, but cant bare to get rid of the GSA :(
Bowlin01 Totally agree with you, I only do one Euro tour a year the rest of the time it's just Sunday rides. I think the 1250r (when it comes out) would suit me better. The RT is a lovely bike, just not for me it's too much like a car.
Thanks for doing the vid my friend, great bike but why ow why do they still put that silly Ariel on them.. Put a DAB in with an Ariel built in...
I’m amazed that Bmw don’t have heated seat on the GSA.? Seeing as they are designed to be all year bikes
thanks Fozzy222 :) i agree, great bike but that arial!!! just so out of place!
Have you done a ride on the r1250rs or r1200rs
Hey Chris, its on the way!
Guys, did you not find the suspension much harder than the old R1200RT?
thinking about it, yes a little to be honest, although not enough to make it uncomfortable. it is adjustable to your liking but just felt right :)
Great looking bike
Just love all BMW 😃😃
with you on that one buddy
I had a job to here you some of the time .
unfortunately the camera and weather did not like each other on the day, but we didnt know until after filiming :(
Was it nice to be back on the RT?
always seems to be a good ride
@@RiderCamTV Yeah, you said it 19 times, lol.
Why would you choose the RT over a Goldwing?
I have a ZZR1400 now but had a RT-P 1st gen last as I'm a blood biker too. The RT was easier to ride slowly than my CBR125 lol and I really miss it (started having a few reliabilty issues at 90k). Now I'm looking for RT features with ZZR torque and power, and the closest I can find is the K1600GT, which fully spec'ed is about 3k more than a fully spec'ed RT. When the time comes I'll test ride them both but at the moment my heart is set on the K1600 lol. I'd love to see you review the K1600 as you two don't seem so blown away by the toys as most of the reviews for it
Interestingly most Blood bike groups now go for FJR1300s as Yamaha give them a very favourable package, but in the group I ride for until may when I turn 30 I'm stuck on lower CC bikes and currently ride an F800GT
hey buddy, thanks for the kind words.
I call them ST bikes as they can play with sports bikes all day but when the sports riders have pulled over for fuel we can keep going, These bikes are massively under-rated
i'd take air cooled for Sydney - London any day. Less weight and complexity and one less thing to go wrong. RT lovely bike though
RT1250 or RT1600?
Cloggsy Goodwin i would be tempted by the 1600 as there were two of them on a tour i did last year and they were awesome machines.
mark holroyd I think the buttery smoothness of the 6 cylinder over the twin would win out over time...
RT for the price as its £3k cheaper but the smoothness of the 1600 would take 1st place as Mark says
What's not to love
100%
Loved this bike but...
Police spec have top opening panniers so I dare say you could get them
that we could Thomas, but they are quite small :(
I'm enjoying your channel keep it going 😃🏍
Nice vid but sort the audio volume out it was so quiet
thanks Aaron
Get a white one, everyone thinks its a copper behind them and they get out of the way!
Either they get out of the way.....or slow down in front of you. Pl

Heavy hands don’t touch my fucking bike
This is guy in the yellow vest have to finger bang the bike so bad
Just commenting on the bike would be nice. Don’t need all your history thank you.
