That’s a good point. I think just walking around is work, at least for me, as, like you, I destroy most of my footwear just walking around. Even if you’re not a lumberjack, just having a boot that doesn’t fall apart from being worn around a lot makes it worth buying something like this Nick’s boot.
Nick, great video and your honesty is really appreciated here. The Urban logger is foremost a work boot. I wondered how these would fare in the concrete jungle. Knowing that it’s not the best environment for long walks in Central Park. Good thing we have options!!
Love the genuine, heartfelt approach to this review. My boot usage is split between sitting behind a desk and manual labor and these are not the boot for me but they are great boots for the right situation.
I think my Nicks are perfect. Definitely not a city boot, but for me and many others who live in the cold north of the America's they are great snow/rain boots with leather so thick you can stand in a river in the winter and feel no difference. Some of the most water tight and waxy boots if kept well and will last you forever and seemingly never wear out, especially with those thick screwed on Vibram soles. Great review!
@@AOTSismyhero I guess you have relatively mild winters or mostly use a car for moving) Because here in Ukraine we have like -10 .. -25 C in winter quite often, and it's quite cold even in winter boots with warm lining and warm socks (when walking for a long time).
I have the Urban Drifter. Same boot with a lower heel and lower arch. They are unequivocally fantastic. Being tall, I didn’t want a 2” logger heel. These will definitely last for generations. Hopefully my grandson will wear my size. Very happy with my purchase. Next up for me will be a pair of White’s service boots. Thanks for your honest appraisal.
I own the Nicks Falcon (8" in Predator Orange) and the Nicks BuilderPros (10" in 1964 brown) - I use them for motorcycle riding. Make no mistake about it, the Falcon is an overbuilt beastly boot as well. It weighs 30% more than more than my Iron Rangers and the leather is 50% thicker than the copper rough and tough. I do prefer the Falcons to the BuilderPros though - the block heal with the 430 mini lug makes the boot much more versatile in general.
I have a pair of these in the Predator Orange, w a honey vibram sole and I’ve never had a pair of boots I’ve loved more then my Urban Loggers. I used them for work, but also wear them casually. The fit, feel, and finish is above and beyond.
I went with the Urban Drifter. Same boot as the Urban Logger, without the logger high heel. Love the boots. Being from the midwest, I thought the high heel would be a bit conspicuous. I wear them for all activities, from outdoor work, to hiking, to dinner with the wife (after a proper cleaning).

Moreover, I watch your channel and I have a purpose for these types of boots, I just I appreciate the style/fashion perspective.
I really appreciate your review. The Urban Loggers are basically a 6" version of their staple BuilderPro's. Overbuilt for almost all uses. The Robert, Falcon or Americana on the HNW last with a lower stack heel and V-bar sole, might better serve the after hour around town need.
I agree with everything you said here. Nicks are intentionally built to be workhorses. They incorporate the thickest, highest quality leathers available into both the upper and the sole for longevity. Their intention isn't a casual or a luxury boot, but rather something that can stand the serious test of time! Definitely something I'd want to wear in the trenches hahaha
I genuinely appreciate your honesty about these boots. It was nice to see you highlight and appreciate the build and quality while admitting that they aren't exactly appropriate for your personal style. And that is perfectly fine :) Thanks, Nick, for your honest opinion on your Nicks ;)
I have these in the wickett and craig veg tan, and love them. I live on the country so they fit me perfect. That being said, I appreciate your honesty. Great video!
Another advantage of higher heels are when you bend your knees down to pick up something heavy or squat in general, normally your heel comes off the ground and your balancing yourself on the ball of your foot, with higher heel boots like that your heel is going to stay grounded making for a more stable, balanced and comfortable motion.
As someone who grew up performing manual labor, I have a love and nostalgia for boots like this, but since I don’t have to work like that anymore, I’d like something to remind me of my past but still be usable in my now urban life. I want a pair.
They are definitely on my bucket list. I just need to get the size squared away as I don’t want to risk getting the wrong size after a long wait. I’m presently wearing a Thursday Captain in 8.5 D and they fit very well but wish they were available in an E width. Great video as always.
I’m sure they do a custom fit where you can send in a drawing of your feet and your measurements. I’m in the same boat and just bought a pair of Franks boots. Sent in a drawing and my measurements to let them decide what would be best.
@@MordecaiAliVanAllenOShea Yes, they do run narrow. Soon, I will go to a proper shoe store and get measured with a Brannock device. Nick’s can then calculate the right size from that to get the proper fit, I hope.
@@flfbsphatboyblue8970 just go a 1/2 size down from your brannock measurement and you should be good. Don’t sweat it too much, if they don’t fit right you can send them back for a different size.
I also have Thursday's Captain's in 8.5D. You will want Nick's in 8E if they're the HNW last and maybe 7.5E if they're on the 55 or 67 last🤙🏻 I have 3 pairs of Nick's all in 8E HNW lasts👍🏻 And they are perfect👌🏻 I originally got my first pair of Nick's in 8D but had to return them for 8E because they run a tad narrow.
Love my Urban Loggers, have had them for a year now and I do street walking only, the heel provides massive support and I can walk in them all day and they now feel like slippers (heavy slippers).
As someone who owns two pairs of Nick’s boots, I completely agree with your opinions of the Urban Logger. Sometimes, too much of a good thing is, well, just too much. As much as I love my Nick’s, the Urban Logger is a bit over the top for casual wear and I doubt I would appreciate its unique features any more than you do. Excellent review. Thanks for your honesty.
I'm interested in the Robert's which are essentially Urban drifters, but without the huge lug soles. You still get the big heel, high arch, but it's more a light duty work boot that looks pretty good.
Same-I now have 2 pair. They're amazing-I've owned/own many of the top brands-Viberg-Whites-Alden-etc which are all good but Nicks is what I wear 90% of time or more.
Very useful advice. I bought the Urban Drifter which has a regular heel and relatively low arch. I reckon for me they run a good half size bigger than Thursday or Truman. The Difter isn't a city boot but you can get away with it. Strangely, I expected them to be a lot heavier but they are built like a tank. Bottom line is I would not buy Nicks again as they are too hard core.
As a person who mostly lives and works in urban areas, but also wants something hardy to screw around in, these are the best. I don't really need the height boost (I'm already 6'2") but the silhouette still looks badass and the arch support is unreal. I have about 20 shoes/boots, I wear these at least fifty percent of the time. I love them so much.
Alas, Nicks is outside my budget, and I'm going to be moving to Norway soon, so the wait time is a deal breaker anyway. Fortunately I grabbed some Thursday loggers which should be here tomorrow.
In the long run, you save money not having to replace boots all the time. Plus, you won’t be breaking in boots all the time. These you break-in, resole and eventually rebuild if need be
They are beautiful, however, I agree with your assessment. If I had $600 laying around, I would definitely get the AL64 model with the 5 inch profile. Those are perfect for my modest needs and overall aesthetic. Great content as always!
You are 100% correct. Get the right boot for what you do. Got a pair of builder pros for work (bridge inspecting outside in all terrains) and they are amazing (definetly crazy breakin but the honey lugs made it a bit easier). Got a pair of Roberts for casual wear.
Nice job, I did not get 1964 leather and break in was a pain. Once they conformed to my foot I wear them all the time, I can put them on in the morning and almost never think about taking them off. 55 last is great for me. Really liking the rough out walnut, just applied Neatsfoot oil to them just shy of a year old. Been hiking in rocks, sand , roots, and pavement.
Watching this as a work from home guy that wears Nicks Hot Shots daily...only the toughest boot to help me navigate the daily grind that is work from home.
Absolutely love the honesty and self-deprecation. I am a tradesmen, and electrician. But my career now is more of a tech and I spend more time with a laptop than I do working hard. So what you’re saying is spot on. These would not be for me either. They sure do look cool though
Definitely a great review as someone who has owned a pair of these for over a year I would definitely say they're not for everyone especially those who are geared towards Style versus function I would rather tell them go for a Americana A Roberts or a falcon with a smaller heel and less aggressive tread but if you're looking for something that is going to last decades and that is built for anything you can throw at it Nick's is definitely the way to go
Love my Nick's. The arch support really helps for the 6 to 8 miles I walk everyday at work. I also live in the mountains of northern Utah and can be in forest land in 20 minutes from my house. My Nick's have been awesome on hiking trails. As for casual boots I have a pair of White's Stichdown Down Cruisers in Toscanello Horsehide. While not as beefy as my Nick's they are still built like a tank.
I just got the Urban Drifter which has a block heel that is a little lower and totally hits the spot for me. They are definitely a serious boot though. Great, realistic review of the boot
Yep, Urban drifter, overlander, or Officer boot have lower profiles but still have a bkue collar element. I have a lace to toe and an urban drifter in the low arch last and they blend in but people notice quick that they are not off the shelf
I ordered some Urban Logger’s in 1964 Chocolate smooth and choose MTO to get nickel eyelets and an 8” height. I am very cognizant that I want them in large part to fulfill some sort of masculine cosplay for my suburban lifestyle. I ordered them back in July and can’t wait for them to get here.
Great review. I also found that Nicks are not for me. They are really well made and beautiful boots but the amount of leather in the footbed made it hard to wear because of my collapsed arches. I might buy a lower arch model in the future but for now my Whites are much more comfortable.
I have owned a pair of Urban Loggers for about 8 months. As a geologist, I have some experience abusing boots and these are the toughest boots I have owned. I use mine to build a cabin, work on cars, and work on ladders and they provide excellent support and stabilitg. I understand your saying they are too much boot for just wearing around town but if you are tough on boots and want ankle stability, I highly recommend the Urban Logger in roughout.
I just got my customized Urban Loggers, all eyelets, completely brown sides to match the brown roughout chromexcel. I'm a city woman who teaches and plays synths, so they are way overbuilt for 99% of what I do (though once upon a time I did carpentry work and worked in a warehouse). I've worn higher heels so that's not an issue, and in the hour I wore them today (the day they arrived) they are probably even heavier than the giant gothy platformed and buckled boots I've owned. I know I don't need them but I was sold on just how overbuilt they are. The toughest thing I'll probably put them through is a hike but they look good enough I'd wear them on stage. I'm sure I'll get comments that I don't need them but if I ever do need them, but I love how tough they are.
I was looking at the more work boot styles from Nick’s and for the same reasons you mentioned I ended up going with the falcon. They don’t feel out of place when I wear them in the office, but they’re still tough as nails. I’ve had them for about a month and they’re just getting broken in. It’s pretty crazy when you compare them with other mass marketed boots. You can instantly tell how much tougher they are. I like the ones I got a lot.
Love the very honest review. I have a pair of Robert boots on order - which is basically the city version of the urban logger with the v-bar sole. I'm also getting a pair of Overlanders to be my go anywhere do anything boot including hiking and hunting. I don't do construction or anything, but these will work for my lifestyle and will be pretty damn cool while doing it.
I’m with you on that statement. I was looking at the Drifter for something with a lug sole but not as heavy as the Urban Logger, which is probably the point lol
I work in an air conditioned welding shop and wear either my hotshots for heavy welding or my builder pros for lighter welding both 10 inch prolly not needed but who’s gonna stop me
Another justification id add to the urban side of this boot would be the arch support. Boots made with the veg tan leather insoles etc arent gonna have the same kind of arch support as a logger boot will. Yea you can find moderate arch support in other styles. But typically, the lower the heel, the lower the support. So if you have high arches, the extra weight and rigidity of this boot might be worth it for you
thanks Nick for the great review, I like boots and I just use it to go to work and sit in my desk. I think I'll stick to something that fits me more, a Thursday boot
The “stolen valor” comment made me chuckle. If you dedicate an entire week to these, all day everyday, you’ll forget about the heel and the extra wide sole because no one else will notice it and you’ll appreciate how the arch improves your posture. Great vid, it was a lot to unpack.
Thanks man. I always felt like the big heel pitched me forward a bit, but maybe it would improve posture! My pelvis is kind of anterior tilted though so maybe not great for me
I believe the heel is the same height as the Robert and the 350 Cruiser, but the lugged sole gives you an extra half inch of height. I don’t think it’s the heel but the sole that makes you self conscious. Sorry, I’m breaking in a pair of smokejumpers so I feel your pain.
very helpful video, nick. thanks so much for the honesty. I've been watching videos on these sort of booty boots for quite some time now and always had the niggling thought that as beautiful and cool as they are, they wouldn't work for me as an city dude. so it's good to get that affirmation from an independent source.
I went back and forth between the Falcon and the Urban Drifter. I chose the UD because of the lugged sole. I live in WA but I’m not a logger either. I’m also getting the try on boot.
I don't work outdoor manual labor, I did at one point in my life but it's been about a decade, I also live in the city and while I do work long shifts and the support makes a twelve hour day a million times better than other boots I've worn, these are to an extent cosplay for me. that being said I f*cking love these boots. I do use them to walk around like a dork, not fight forest fires or wrestle bears, but I've gotten more compliments on them then any other boots I've ever worn. And they feel badass. I also appreciate that I'm 6'5" when I put them on. It's kind of cool.
Great review. Long time watcher, first time comment or on your channel. I have the overlander (1964, normal heel, 8in) and the hot shots (black 10in extra thick sole, logger heel) from nicks. As far as looking out of place, I think it is that you wear skinnier pants and show the whole boot. In fact, outside of people who use work boots, no one has ever commented on my nicks (and those who work in boots were very complimentary and some have bought nicks). The one thing I don’t like about the urban logger is that it is too short with the logger heel. It’s a bit unstable to me so I prefer the 8in or 10in. After quite a bit of wear they feel perfect for walking and standing around and, given I don’t log or fight fires, I am fairly well convinced they will last as long as I do.
Great review and honesty. I have these urban loggers boots and although I do like them, and have worn them for work like outdoor chores and such I work in an office. I totally agree with your assessment and actually wish I had gone with the Americana. They’re just as tough but a bit sleeker and lower profile. I def don’t reach for these boots as much as my red wings for day to day use. I wear them more on weekends for like a general day of chores, errands or whatever.
Personally, I love Nick's, and found that their HNW last is a near-perfect match to my foot. You want heavy, though? I have a pair of the ND1s (the 1st colab with Rose Anvil) and I love them, but those things are like wearing tank armor on your feet.
Nick, are you sure those are 64 Tan r/o? They look like 64 Brown r/o. I have several pairs of Nick's boots and you can't go wrong if you're looking for a monster of a boot. Thanks for the videos!
As a very tall dude, I don't need or want a logger heel. That said, my work boots have a heel for all the reasons you mentioned. It helps. These look amazing though. Thanks.
Great video and I own a pair of Urban Drifters and feel your dilemma. I work in an office two days a week and have a small hobby farm. I end up wearing the nicks around the office and to church and have a pair of Thurogoods for my farm work because I want to keep the nicks nice forever. The Nicks are fantastic boots that I will probably retire with
I can still 100 percent appreciate what you're doing for gentlemen out here even when you're feeling like a poseur lol. I completely understand what you mean though and I'm sure the majority of us greatly appreciate your honesty.
Nice review Nick. I have always wanted a pair on Nick's. But, can't pull the plug yet. I did order a pair of Whites Perry Moc toe for half the cost. I wish I wore youe size, I would take them off your hands. I enjoy your channel very much and always like the info you give out..You could use them as a winter boot...
Great review you are spot on! the boots do look great on you, I really like the all rough out look, I have a pair of Nick's 10" Builder Pros and when I wear them I feel like I can climb Mt Everest! They are so comfortable I don't want to take them off! They are heavy though, once I wear them for a little while that feeling goes away, if you bump into something you instantly now how rugged they are, I'm very careful around my Dog and Cat one time my cat ran between my legs and I stepped on his leg and I thought I killed him, so I'm cautious with them!
Not for me either. I need something with a totally flat sole which is why I'm so drawn to the moc toe red wings. But totally great for someone who needs a rugged pair of boots and has a hard foot to fit.
Nick I received my Urban Loggers shortly after you did. I do agree with your assessment that there are better options for casual boots worn in an urban environment. However, I have been wearing mine for 8-10 hrs a day for the last 6 weeks and they are just now starting to break in. You mentioned that you were only wearing 1hr a day for 8 weeks (with little to no break-in time). I suspect that the break-in has not actually started for you yet, and would be curious what your thoughts would be after a full (100+ hr) break-in.
Really good video and I enjoyed the review 👍🏾 Years when worked in construction these would be great and money saver. Now days I prefer less of a beefy construction. I have been looking at the Robert, Americana and the Falcon for everyday wear 👀 Like the channel with the good content and review awesomeness 💯💯💯😉
Roughout gang! It’s okay to be a city guy wanting to get out a little more in something rugged, Nick. 😉 I’m the opposite in my environment most days! I agree with you though! I’m in a manual labor environment. Often times a lot of the guys there will see such an urbanite and think exactly what you said. Cosplay almost. However, I think often times guys are misguided on how much boot they need to get through their daily life. You nailed so many things in this video!
incredible boots, I had my eye on them but you make a very good point for it maybe being inappropriate for a city guy like me. Maybe I'll tone it down a bit and go for one of their other styles lol
I appreciate your honesty. I am looking forward to my urban loggers any day now ! I think the profile is absolutely beautiful and bad ass. Love my 350 cruisers, how do they feel compared to to your cruisers? Why did you choose a work leather over a heritage? Thanks!
First... An Hour of walking per day for 2 months = 60 hours. Nicks need minimum 80 hours just to start feeling like it doesn't want to kill you. For a City Slicker, you really should have gotten some Roberts in with Horween Chrome Excel. It's a smooth 6-6.5oz leather that is more fashionable, and breaks in easier than 8oz rough out.
I ordered mine last week. When they showed the ones on Instagram with the Horween natural CXL and the Vibram honey lugs I was sold. I have been wanting a pair of boots with that scooped tall logger heel and this is such a unique cobination/look I had to bite.....especially since they are only making 50 pairs. Only thing that has me worried is the weight. I am a city boot guy and usually wear BedStu, Redwing, or Untamed Street but these Nicks are so unique. Maybe it will be more of a cosplay type thing for me but I think I am in a rural enough area I can make that work. Thanks for the great reviews as always !! (On a side note, I know you are not much of a zipper guy but have you ever checked out the BedStuboots? Specifically their Protege Trek? They are quick and easy to put on, strongest zipper I have ever had on a boot, they are comfy, tough, and always get compliments.....may be worth checking out. )
I’ve had Viberg 310’s and suddenly they’re missing, so I need to replace them. I spend most of my days around my warehouse with regular time on job sites. Even though I have a high arch, I’m concerned about getting these as day in, day out boots. Thoughts?
I think a huge part of what you're talking about is due to the lug sole. I have a pair of White's that are mostly city boots but do get a decent amount of wear offroad in the countryside through mud, gravel, fields, etc. that are on a commando sole, and when they're due for a rebuild I was thinking about throwing that V100 sole on them. But the more I think about it, the more I think I'd wind up in just the territory you're talking about - going from "this guy has a cool sort of heritage, rugged style" to "this is cosplay." Simply swapping out the V100 for something like a Vibram 430, 700/705, 269, or a Dr. Soles sole would maintain the heritage look but bring you back into the realm of the sensible, all other things about the boot remaining the same.
I'm glad he made the acknowledgement that these boots aren't really for everyone. I wear Nicks Builder Pros for work and while I could wear some jeans with them and go out grocery shopping or running errands I usually don't. Nicks makes work boots first, fashion boots second, and while these have some elements of both I say these lean too far into work boots for most people to really get their money's worth out of them.
As always, thanks for your honesty Nick; viewers appreciate and respect that. I’d appreciate your thoughts on these as opposed to your 350 Cruisers. Any feedback to share? I got my first pair of Nicks 6 weeks ago (Robert’s) to see if I could adapt to the high arch and heels. For me they’re outstanding but am considering the 350 cruisers for second pair to rotate. I’m thinking arch support and weight distribution is much less in the 350’s…?
I also feel like those are a bit much for city fashion life with an occasional hike. Those are definitely more for the indoor/outdoor worker who needs an every situation boot.
I have a pair of The Maverick's which was a Collab with @noblemansapothecary, it's a 6" black boot with brown accents with the Vibram V700 sole, there's actually a video on TH-cam about the boot. It still has a tall heel, but much dressier (in my opinion) than the Urban Logger, though, had I not chosen The Maverick, it would've been the Urban Logger (for day hikes, going into the woods, etc., etc.) Love your videos!
Thank you for your honesty. I will now purchase The Urban Logger.

Love the review. Agreed with the cosplay analogy.
Im looking forward to getting some Nicks for my spine...
I'm a serious work boot wearer/user. I own multiple pairs of White's and Nicks. Great review.
They are definitely on my bucket list. I just need to get the size squared away as I don’t want to risk getting the wrong size after a long wait. I’m presently wearing a Thursday Captain in 8.5 D and they fit very well but wish they were available in an E width. Great video as always.
I’ve heard Thursday’s run a little narrow. You’d probably be good in a Nicks D width.
I’m a plumber and I ordered 2 pairs of nicks a pair of urban loggers and overlanders in the brown waxed flesh and I can’t wait for them
Very useful advice.
I’m 6’7” in my builder pros. Although they make me freakishly tall, I still love them.
WHy do you need so much "arch support" Are your arches broken? Do you also use support for other muscles? "Bicep support" maybe?
@@CptAngelKGaming yep
Great, honest video Nick. I don't go out of the house without the Robert. Next up is the Americana. Simply, a great American boot.
This is a really well-crafted and polished video. Great job!
I ordered mine in April and they were just made. Can't wait to put them on.
The 8-inch Falcon with the HNW last is the perfect boot. Skinny jeans guys may prefer the 6-inch version or the Americana boot.
I recommend choosing the Moderate heel stack which is lower.
So these seems to be perfect for me. Mainly office worker doing construction audits but also need to do construction site inspections
very helpful video, nick. thanks so much for the honesty.
Love the heel. Some guys are too insecure to wear anything outside of a standard height heel unfortunately
Thank you for your honesty.
Stolen valour, so true. I completely agree.
They would definitely look out of place here on UK streets.
Love the cosplay line. At least you own it, and that, in and of itself, is worthy of respect and praise. Great review.
Did I miss something? Are they comfortable? Is the arch hard to get used to? Like is it so heavy it obnoxious?
Nick, are you sure those are 64 Tan r/o? They look like 64 Brown r/o. I have several pairs of Nick's boots and you can't go wrong if you're looking for a monster of a boot. Thanks for the videos!
As a very tall dude, I don't need or want a logger heel. That said, my work boots have a heel for all the reasons you mentioned. It helps. These look amazing though. Thanks.
Great video. I think the urban drifter would have been a better choice for you. It would be my pick.
Another awesome review Nick. Based on your review, I think I'm leaning towards buying the Falcon or Americana in the future!
I own these boots in walnut rough out and they are tough and stylish.
Urban logger is a great looking boot. I of course ordered a pair of falcons lol
Not for me either. I need something with a totally flat sole which is why I'm so drawn to the moc toe red wings. But totally great for someone who needs a rugged pair of boots and has a hard foot to fit.
Got the sister boot with lower heel called the urban drifter. Use as a hiker and occasional urban walker. I don’t notice the 45 oz weight
Cool! A lower heel would make a big difference
Great review. I was really courious about them but as barista i don't think i need them. Not those exactly. Falcon though ...
Yeah man the foot bed I'm sure hasn't even began to conform to the foot .that's the point for me when they get super comfortable.
Logger boots walk very nicely, much nicer than any block heel of any height
They are quick and easy to put on, strongest zipper I have ever had on a boot, they are comfy, tough, and always get compliments.....may be worth checking out. )
You ought to resole them with a mini lug, and BAM! It’s a Robert
Fantastic boots, the very best together with White's
I’ve had Viberg 310’s and suddenly they’re missing, so I need to replace them. I spend most of my days around my warehouse with regular time on job sites. Even though I have a high arch, I’m concerned about getting these as day in, day out boots. Thoughts?
Nick's in 8.5D, same as Tony Lama Black Label, Lucchese, old Dan Post and Thursdays.
9D in Merrills or New Balance
I am wondering about the JK 300 for the same reasons.
I'm glad he made the acknowledgement that these boots aren't really for everyone. I wear Nicks Builder Pros for work and while I could wear some jeans with them and go out grocery shopping or running errands I usually don't. Nicks makes work boots first, fashion boots second, and while these have some elements of both I say these lean too far into work boots for most people to really get their money's worth out of them.
would love to hear your thoughts on the Wild and Free Supply large messenger bag..thick leather good price
Nick, I don’t remember if you’ve done a sock video but could you do one? Like best socks to wear with your boots that won’t wreck your feet.
I also feel like those are a bit much for city fashion life with an occasional hike. Those are definitely more for the indoor/outdoor worker who needs an every situation boot.
And it's IDEAL for them!
I think you're viewers will respect your take. That's why we tune in!
Thanks Trey!
