Sadly she said she would never go back to TV because the producers were pressuring her to give money to people who she felt didn't deserve it and didn't like the message that would have sent I love that but yeah I miss this show and I feel like it's still really needed
@Jessica Bellamy she was respectful 😆 it's called tough love! She's doing them a HUGE favor. If Gail calls out people for their nonsense or excuses, they deserve it! After all, they did agree to participate in this show and they accepted the challenges to change their behavior. If they fail, they should be called out. Babying them would just be enabling them.
Yes! We watched this show in one of my highschool classes whenever we finished our work and it's one of the only useful things I learned from highschool
@@nancyaguirre2307 than it is for the best that she's a glorified admin girl and not a real finance professional. Ineptitude doesn't belong in a that line of work. Gail does another excellent episode where another woman who is also financially inept couldn't advance at work because her credit was so bad, and rightfully so.
Not to mention, if they cut out pizza and processed food, lose around eighty pounds apiece, and get rid of the TV habit and take evening walks instead...everyone's health improves, they have lower medical costs, and will probably have less need to buy crap for amusement and stimulation.
they did do a follow up on some couples. This couple was doing a good job paying stuff off and then the husband lost his job and they had to delcare bankruptsy. But they seemed in good spirits and seem to moving forward
Family members of mine smoked their whole lives. They never owned a home, never had anything nice, but they always had cigarettes in their hands. I'm sure they never thought about how much it cost them. Sad.
I quit a 2 pack a day habit almost 40 years ago, back when one could smoke wherever they bloody well felt like smoking. I quit for the health benefits, as cigarettes were relatively “cheap” back then. But if asked I tell people to place the actual cash cost of one pack a week into a clear jar. Even if they do smoke more than a single deck weekly, seeing that money add up payday after payday is an excellent motivator. Especially if you set a goal for the saved money, such as sport fees for family members, or perhaps saving for a special holiday. And now there are so many ways to assist smokers who want to stop. Sometimes it is easier to link it with another large life change, such as a new job, new residence or new member of the family.
Join The Club! Dear God, I don't know what year this one was in but by today's standards $21.000.00 is The Poverty Line. The Dog is a major expense, he's stressed out. Also when you're freelance, you don't make a steady salary. Kind of like Lisa The Substitute Teacher from another Episode.
I've been binge watching this show for a few days now and these two are the most cooperative couple!! No arguing with each other or with Gail!! They are so funny and cute! I hope they stick with it!
What a nice couple. He seems like a sweet kind soul, and she looks like she's a bundle of fun! It's good to see them both work to ditch bad habits and adopt new ones. He now looks 10-15 years younger!
It's really refreshing to hear both partners taking responsibility right at the beginning of the episode. A lot of times at least one of the partners is blaming the other and justifying their own bad behavior as okay for whatever reason.
I practice family medicine . It never ceases to amaze me how many people complain they have no money for meds or physio . But there’s money for their addiction . Always .
Uh...why would it still amaze you when it's such a common problem obviously. It's an additction for a reason. Btw I have none but can to see now many do.
Refer them to a social worker. If they are not following their treatment but continue making it worst, clearly something is going on beyond the medical
I've always been grateful that I never started smoking. It was really brought home to me many years ago when my roommate (and best friend) calculated that it was costing her more to smoke than to board her horse. Fortunately, she's been smoke-free for a long time now.
This show was way ahead of it’s time. About 80% of couples/singles are in some kind of trouble like this now. Judging by the currency this is from 2007 or so? I’d love to see this again!!
I would also love to see an update on these couples especially these guys:-) you can tell how much they love each other and their family! They were so nice to Gail and so truly appreciative of her help
I took out a loan for a considerable amount earlier this year. The stipulations were that I stop smoking, and drinking. The cigarettes alone were equal to the monthly loan repayment, $298.00 per month. I've given up the drinking, on a daily basis (cheap wine) but quitting the cigarettes is brutal. Iknow I've got to stop, if I don't, it will lead to ruination on many levels. I've cut my usage in half, reducing the cost, and my intention is to be done with them altogether. I know I'll be much happier knowing that I've rid myself of an albatross.
This couple is amazing, they radiate love and support. They also show gratitude toward Gail who tries her best to get them out of debt. Her advice is still relevant today unfortunately with the inflation.
If they stopped smoking and ate healthily they would not need to spend so much on medication. And if they had put in the pool they would have had the cost of running that too.
Mike already is working overtime if she wants all those things she needs to work more than just part-time. I have two TVs in my house I don't even have them plugged in.
Brutally honest, that was he said & it's true, it works!!! His wife is Very Smart!!! I love this couple & just notice the trainer is from another episode, he's going great!! 👏👏✅✅
This is wonderful, there are so many people in this situation. It ruins their health, relationships with just the stress and sets up the next generation for success/failure in the same way.
Good episode. Great ending. Also eye opening. I dont smoke but i have similar habits and life style choices as this couple and now im thinking about if i had all that money from bad habits back that id be rich. I wish i was rich instead of where im at now so im making some serious changes right now.
Our kids never had TVs in their rooms. We didn't put one in our bedroom until after 25 years of marriage, and paid cash for it. And yeah, smoking needs to go. I'm glad they did it!
When I moved out I refused to get a tv. I loved my books and radio. My father could not understand the situation. He bought me a little b&w set that I stored in a cupboard unless he dropped in. It wasn’t until my husband moved in 6 years later that we got colour, cable and other adult stuff. But I still refuse to have a set in our bedroom.
So they could save about $900 a month if they just stopped buying cigarettes and ordering pizza. Hmm. Would be curious to see where they are now since this was obviously filmed many years ago.
I loved this show and watching Suze Orman's show when I was a teenager. These shows (along with my parents) taught me a lot of basic financial literacy principals. I'd love to see a modern version of this show.
I have been preferring this to Caleb hammer recently, because all he can do is call out their spending and hope they will change. This show actually puts them to the test!
@@bovnycccoperalover3579 I watched this episode years ago and am just commenting from memory on this, but they better start saving for insulin. “It hurts , thinking about numbers” - this woman, someone’s book keeper
It’s always easier to deal with numbers other than your own.
Professional numbers people can notoriously be terrible with personal finances but fantastic at their careers.
When it's other people's numbers, you don't have to admit your issues; just do the math.

Giving up smoking will save them money also reducing medication costs by helping to lowering their blood pressure .....its a win,win .

They’re both hugely overweight; they’re just a skip away from a heart attack or a stroke. I really hope they lost weight together and stopped smoking!
👏🏻
I was a smoker. Then I had to have a quintuple cardiac bypass. The tobacco companies don't tell you the damage it can do to your heart.
Starting eating healthy, stop smoking etc would get them healthier and wealthier
I saved $10k a year just by quitting smoking and changing cable/internet/cell phone providers.
The amount that some spend on food and eating out is shocking 😮
I’d love to see follow ups-to see if these couples were able to continue to spend responsibly.
