    good video. for me the most important thing I can think of b/f purchasing a fly line for a particular rod is to determine what "grain" wt. casts best with the particular rod. there are times i will select a line that is a wt size less for the rod. Why? b/c I know what is the best grain wt for that rod and it just casts better for the baitfish patterns that i like to use. hope this helps.

      Thanks Jake, how do you determine which grain weight is best for that rod?

      @@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing that is a great question. And thank you The first thing I like to do is talk to the manufacturer of the rod they can be a wealth of knowledge another resource would be your local Fly Shop and lastly, overtime you accumulate various fly lines with different grain weights. I like to head over to the park with a couple of reels or spools loaded with different grain weights and my favorite baitfish pattern and see which line works best. Hope this helps.

    Sweet video. Thanks for this. For my upcoming Bahamas trip (first trip for bones), for my 8wt I got the Rio Elite Bone and did my 9wt I got the Elite Flats (for a DO IT ALL tropical fly line). I hope they both work out.

      Thanks for the comment , glad it was useful… I think you will love them both, and that slick cast costing is something else…

    I will use this line for Tarpon 10# in Cuba
    I think can be perfekt.

    Great video, thank you!
    Have you had a chance to fish the Flats Pro line? Similar taper to the Permit line, wondering how it compares. Thanks!

    Hey there. Great video. Would you say that the permit line is fit for purpose for use with a moderate to moderate action rod?

    • @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing
      @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The permit line is probably half a line weight heavier than a standard, so you might find it will overload a softer rod. Hard to say without trying it, but the Bonefish line might be the better choice….

    Pete, thanks for the info. Personally, I use the SA grand slam 9wt. I like to target bones, permit and baby tarpon. Any thoughts on SA?

      Hi Iain, SA lines are great, I just have not used most of their lines so can’t really comment….

    Hi Peter,
    Interesting!
    Do you trust the welded loops or will you be replacing them? 🧐
    Julian

      Hi Julian! I am happy with the welded loops up to 9# but from 10# and above I will replace with my own double lined braided loops….

    have you had a chance to compare these lines to the Flats Pro line yet ?

    Based on your experience, how much difference does the cold tropic line differ from the same line in warm weather?

    • @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing
      @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there, with all the lines I have tried in the past as soon as they hit the tropics you lose a lot of the line memory and become more malleable… Although actually the coils vanished after a stretch anyway..

    Are these true line weight lines? Seems like the permit line might be a half a weight heavy

      Hi Tom, in all honesty, I don’t know but you might well be right…. Certainly loads faster…

    Are you over weighting your rods 1 line weight ?

    how would the bonefish line work for redfish?

    • @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing
      @AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan I am sure it would work well! I think they do make a Redfish taper as well which might be have a heavier head for turning over heavier flies..
