The most versatile actor of Hollywood. I have already watched all his movies multiple times and can still watch them again. It's not a joke to be dedicated to an artform right from childhood to the present and future ofcourse. He is not only a superb actor but a wonderful human being. Also last but not the least he is a trained dancer and musician. He is an unconventional actor who doesn't participate in the rat race of stardom and dares to take a break from a fruitful career just to follow a passion be it music or anything else. He never hesitates to laugh on himself and I love when he blushes with embarrassment specially while watching his childhood dancing moves. Like millions of people I too love Ryan Gosling. I remember in high school when the girls all liked Ryan gosling and the boys always tried to use any reason in the world to dislike him. It’s wholesome how now that we have all grown and learned to look introspectively we can all appreciate a good Ryan gosling movie
I gotta see a couple of these. Lalaland tho… it was my favorite movie right after I saw it. It was on a cruise to Bermuda. The movie hall was so reflective you could see your self at every angle. About 8 people were there when it started and I was alone in the theater by the ending montage. Maybe it ran a bit long but it was soo worth it. Anyway, I think I could listen to you talk 4ever about anything. Much love. Great vid.
It was about the female experience. I don't think that the feminist tones were too strong/overbearing and I actually really enjoyed the movie, but there were many many instances when the intelligence/empowerment of women came at the expense of men or just making men seem stupid. The only way that it "appealed to the male experience was by teaching Ken to be okay with being alone, and not finding his identity in something else. "I am kenough". Which in reality is not something men actually want. (edit) Meaning they want something to be a part of and a way to prove themselves, although being told that we are enough is a comforting sentiment.
yeah he completely missed the entire point of the movie which is annoying. tbh he lost me early on in the list when he made it clear that he hasn't even watched a lot of these films recently, but then to completely and negligently misunderstood Gosling's most recent work.... that makes for a very unreliable filmography analysis
@@abelhart5510you realize that any time men/Ken were belittled in Barbie was intentionally ironic... it was to highlight how women have been treated in media and irl forever. I don't think Barbie did a great job at driving home a lot of the points it tried to make, but the overall point is that any type of oppressive behavior is bad. the human experience is a difficult one and the patriarchy harms everyone. that was the point
The Place Beyond The Pines has to be my #1. I know it’s so cliche to see parallels between me (a 20 some year old man) and ryan gosling, but as the years go by the parallels continue to pile up even when i don’t mean for them to. It’s just very odd.
Great video and brilliant breakdown of Gosling's filmography! Your passion and analysis of each film are truly infectious. Blade Runner 2049 particularly caught my attention, especially after my fascination with Cyberpunk 2077. I haven't seen the film yet, but Gosling seems to fit perfectly into that world. His innocent yet sad gaze just captures the mood. Definitely need to catch up on that soon!
Don't forget, Gosling Directed a movie too called Lost River. You can tell he has an influence from Nicolas Winding Refn and I wouldn't be surprised if he likes David Lynch because it has a lot Lynch vibes too. It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it a lot and hope je tries to direct again.
Why can't anyone say that, including women? I have not seen the movie but focusing more on Ken is different then focusing solely on him. I really like the concepts and issues the film touches on and I do plan on watching it soon. As a man, I hope to learn a lot about the human experience for both genders. Maybe the movie could have focused more on Ken to get it's message across? He seems integral to the plot, so maybe if he was not showcased or focused on enough, the movie could struggle to get it's point across. Maybe that's not true, idk, but at face value that comment does not seem bad. Depends his intentions with that statement maybe?
Honestly you recommended me so much movies to watch, i never seen any footage of them expect for bladerunner, well im not native english and pretty much asian, so y'k it's reasonable, ima watch em all whenever i have free time, love your content man ❤
21:49 i disagree as to the message that Barbie actually carries. The movie put irl women’s roles in men’s in Barbieland, that’s an important context to comprehend. They showed that a world lead by all Barbies (irl men) with complete and utter disregard to the Kens is not ideal, they also showed that a world lead by all Kens (irl women) with complete and utter disregard to the Barbies is also very not functional. They then taught us through their characters’ development that we have to listen and be accommodating to one another in order to live together and create an ideal functional world. But of course, at the end they also showed us that despite all the lessons they taught “the world”, the world would misunderstand the core of the message and will still be tipped heavier to one side, the Barbies’ side, albeit a little bit better on listening to Kens, but the world still has a *very* long way to go in that process.
@@sder Yeah, after watching it a couple times, the way I see it, the whole movie is a condemnation of any system in which one gender (ANY gender) is elevated and the other oppressed. The female-dominated "Barbieland" wasn't meant to portray the ideal society, but rather depict an obvious reversal of our patriarchal society to show people that this system is damaging to literally everyone, not just women. There's probably something about the fact that Barbie (who could be seen as the dominating "man" figure in this reversal) isn't allowed to show any signs of imperfection in her appearance or thoughts (the flat feet, "do you guys ever think about death?", etc.) and literally only shows emotion at the end, where she cries for the first time and realizes how beautiful it is to be human. Doesn't this kind of sound like how men are shat on for being vulnerable in our society, and feel like they have to maintain a certain image/status? The part where the president tells a Ken that she might let men into some lower circuit courts (but not the Supreme Court) is a reflection on how any advances women are allowed in political spheres/public spaces have to be fought really hard for, and even then, they're only offered an inch here and there to appease them (I really hope I don't have to drop a bunch of statistics here; they're easy to find). The way you and many others felt watching a female-dominated society (rightfully uncomfortable!!) is meant to shed light on the fact that it IS uncomfortable to have one gender so favored --- yet if if was reversed and the Barbie's were men and the Ken's were all women, it really wouldn't upset most people since that's our standard in film and media (and real life). It's SUPPOSED to be icky to have such an imbalance. It just only feels icky to some when it's women and not men in charge, because we're used to the MCs, dialogue-having characters, presidents, and strong personalities all being men (watch any movie that came out before the 70s...). The "little girls" you mention who dream of a woman-dominated society... isn't that the whole idea of Ken? Like you said, Ken just wants the Barbies how it feels to be inferior, and to gain an equal position in their world. It's not wrong for Ken to feel hurt at being so mistreated, just like it isn't surprising for girls to feel the same way in the real world. Equality is the goal, not a power gap. Also, at the end, Barbie tells Ken he doesn't need her validation to be worth something, which I thought was a generally empowering message no matter who you are!! :D Sorry for the essay comment ;P Just some thoughts!! Ryan killed this role and was a brilliant and complex character, as usual. Love that guy. Thanks for the video; I've found some new things to watch :)
@sder people are VERY mad about your take on Barbie lmfao. It's quite funny to me seeing how many people are mentioning it, on a video mainly around Ryan gosling, they are outraged you wanted to see more of Ryan Rosling in a WOMAN MOVIE! Like yeah, I think it's pretty clear from the video that you only watched that film because you enjoy him as an actor, otherwise it wouldn't be your thing.
You must be a girl because as a guy i disagree Barbieland is a parody of the real manly life. It is more a parody of Matrix. We as guys show imperfections all the time by using sarcastic jokes, we talk about death and other deeper subjects because that's normal. How can be the Barbieland the mirror if the dolls learn about the real world and then the Barbieland becomes a parody of patriarchy. @@littleglitch4324
My sister is a psychologist, her class did a study on Lars And The Real Girl - she made the whole family watch the film and excitedly (rabidly) grilled us for our comments. There were numerous projects her university class had on the film and she kept referring to the movie throughout that year when commenting about various mental health matters. I ended up watching the movie again but by myself and in a large dark room one day. As much I kept saying "oh no, ew" at the movie, I also tripped and shocking felt like I was Lars myself. Introverted, needs a little sympathy from the group for certain behaviours, struggling with certain big traumatic life events that impacts behaviour or relationships. We can all relate to Lars in some way. Odd in some way (although Lars is on the extreme). Goslling did a great job. That the movie is revered in the psychology and psychiatry fields is pretty amazing. Edit: The Chandler insert at #1 hit.

Its very easy to disagree with someone...sometimes harder to defend why
this is my 3rd time watching this video and u still managed keep me engaged for the whole 38 minutes. I dont know if its the excellence of your storytelling or the brilliance of Ryan Gosling
Thank you @sder for this comprehensive review of Ryan Gosling movies. I had no idea there were so many.
thank you for spending so much dedication on my work
Although I thoroughly enjoyed this video and appreciated the critique of Gosling's work, I feel like the message of Barbie was severely overlooked.
almost lost interest in watching the video as whole after his comments on the Barbie movie... sounds like someone isn't able to understand satire when it doesn't serve him? he clearly missed the point entirely.
@@4louufr lmao
I’m glad someone else noticed this too, I was thinking the same thing
@@4louuit ain’t that deep
@@mccapo9505i mean considering the entire narrative of barbie is to take the oppressive nature of men in cinema-belittling women in roles that make them look dumb or objectifying them for centuries-and flipping that narrative around, i think it kinda IS that deep. he clearly didn’t get it and what he says is kind of funny considering the parts he didn’t like about the movie as a man are exactly the parts that he wouldn’t have even noticed if the sexes were switched.
STAY IS ONE OF MY FAV MOVIE OF ALL TIMES. I love that it's a movie that could not have been told as effectively through any other medium: it intertwines its visual elements with the story
Yeah, I agree with you, it’s very underrated. I wonder how it will hold up on a rewatch.
@@sder I think that stay is one the the best Ryan gosling movies. I've rewatched it like 3 times and it just gives such a chilling feeling at the end especially. Spoiler alert: i mean the fact its about dreams and survivors guilt and you dont understand it until the end it kind of amazing.
I had no clue Ewan McGregor was in stay until I started watching and I was pleasantly surprised. I love both his and Ryan Gosling's performances, it is a great movie.
me too man, I have it high on the Ryan Gosling Movie List, i just love it man.
I’m so glad you enjoyed ranking my movies, Drive has to be my favorite one I stared in
Love your work 🙌
Wow, I really enjoyed your critique of Ryan’s movies. Such detail and reasoning. I could listen to your voice all day. Love Ryan Gosling. I think he can play/be anyone. Well played!
.
Proud to be your fan❤
The place beyond the pines is definitely an amazing movie. Loved both halves of it. One of my favorites as well.
Excellent film. I believe it’s more accurately split into 3 parts, but yeah it’s all great.
where do you watch the other halves?
@@savannapearce_99first half is Ryan gosling robbing banks, second half is Bradley Cooper taking down corrupt police men, third half is Ryan goslings son doing drugs
@@savannapearce_99other halves
@@savannapearce_99It's all one movie. There's a reason for why some people say that there's "halves" in the movie though. Just watch it, you wont regret it
criminally underrated youtuber. love your videos. keep it up
Appreciate it!
Im so glad to see la la land up there in number one, its a little different compared to the other top spots of the Gosling Anthology, but its what introduced me to gosling and im probably going to start watching all of these from 2 down. Good work on the video
It was Barbie that made me realize how funny he was. I had always enjoyed his films, but that one made me fall in love w him. Lars was the one that made me take notice of him. Thanks for the list. I wish The Nice Guys got a sequel, he and Russell were amazing together.
I remember in high school when the girls all liked Ryan gosling and the boys always tried to use any reason in the world to dislike him. It’s wholesome how now that we have all grown and learned to look introspectively we can all appreciate a good Ryan gosling movie
u like him cuz ur horny, i like him cuz he’s me; we’re not the same
same thing happened with justin bieber
Stay is one of my favourite movies, Stay and Donnie Darko are always fighting for my top spot. Simply loved everything about the film.
Donnie darko is incredible
I gotta see a couple of these.
Lalaland tho… it was my favorite movie right after I saw it. It was on a cruise to Bermuda. The movie hall was so reflective you could see your self at every angle. About 8 people were there when it started and I was alone in the theater by the ending montage. Maybe it ran a bit long but it was soo worth it.
Anyway, I think I could listen to you talk 4ever about anything. Much love. Great vid.
The majority are definitely worth checking out! Watching La La Land on a cruise sounds epic.
i agree on everything except Gray Man and Barbie but regardless, great job with the editing and pacing! loved the video!
I appreciate the feedback!
personally i really enjoyed gray man but great vid 😊
Thank you for makeing this video. It has been an honor to have fans like you. Your are the best!
No seriously, make more of these! This is one of my favorite TH-cam videos OAT!
Thank you, I plan on it!
I fear you lost me at your Barbie commentary.
Thank you for dedicating this whole video to me
You’re welcome Batman
Thank you for ranking all of my movies. I really love seeing my fans appreciating my work.
HAHAHA You got me with the Drive bit you slick SOB hahah, that was awesome.
You made me want to watch all of his movies. Thank you man! 🙏
#11 for the notebook is WILD
The Barbie movie was about the human experience.
@broadbandreworkexactly, imo the Barbie movie shows men that this is what it's like for women.
@broadbandreworkit every movie there's been multiple movies for women empowerment
yeah he completely missed the entire point of the movie which is annoying. tbh he lost me early on in the list when he made it clear that he hasn't even watched a lot of these films recently, but then to completely and negligently misunderstood Gosling's most recent work.... that makes for a very unreliable filmography analysis
21:01 yoooo why’d you show the clip of America pouring her heart out for the unenjoyable-eye rolling parts of the film- 😭
I am very grateful to have fans like you, thanks for the video ❤️✨✨✨❤️
Dude! Thank you for making a video about my movies!
love the video! ur take on barbie is on the brink of a ben shapiro tweet tho
While a faint cry emerges from the emergency room. And a hand reaches out while a young boy utters his first words... "I Drive" 😂😂😂
Ryan Gosling also learned piano just for La La Land. He spent 3-4 months practicing every day.
Amazing video. Really well put together. He is the best! Thank you!
I appreciate that!
I’m so glad that you watched all of my movies. Thank you!
No problem 🤝
The Place Beyond The Pines has to be my #1. I know it’s so cliche to see parallels between me (a 20 some year old man) and ryan gosling, but as the years go by the parallels continue to pile up even when i don’t mean for them to. It’s just very odd.
Lars And The Real Girl is one of my favourite films it’s so depressing and wholesome.
I’m honored to have a video dedicated to me
You deserve it
Great video and brilliant breakdown of Gosling's filmography!
My friend, you cooked with this video. And definitely hit on that point, he is me, Ryan is you. It just feels right.
Outstanding! Very thorough and thoughtful insights on all his best movies. Well done again Soder
Means a lot brother 🤝
Don't forget, Gosling Directed a movie too called Lost River. You can tell he has an influence from Nicolas Winding Refn and I wouldn't be surprised if he likes David Lynch because it has a lot Lynch vibes too. It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed it a lot and hope je tries to direct again.
Glad to see someone acknowledge the difference between bad acting and bad writing/directing
Terrific stuff! I agree with your rankings and appreciate the focus on haircuts. You get it.
Much appreciated!
this video just blew my mind away. your analysis is amazing :)
only a man would say that the barbie movie should have been more focused on ken
ryan Gosling was actually only the good part
Why can't anyone say that, including women? I have not seen the movie but focusing more on Ken is different then focusing solely on him. I really like the concepts and issues the film touches on and I do plan on watching it soon. As a man, I hope to learn a lot about the human experience for both genders. Maybe the movie could have focused more on Ken to get it's message across? He seems integral to the plot, so maybe if he was not showcased or focused on enough, the movie could struggle to get it's point across. Maybe that's not true, idk, but at face value that comment does not seem bad. Depends his intentions with that statement maybe?
This was the most beautiful, incredible, video about my favorite, beloved, actor. The one, the only, Ryan Gosling.❤👏❤
Thanks so much!
The Big Short absolutely warrants a rewatch. It comfortably ranks top 5 all time for me and certainly top 3 of Ryan's movies...
Honestly you recommended me so much movies to watch, i never seen any footage of them expect for bladerunner, well im not native english and pretty much asian, so y'k it's reasonable, ima watch em all whenever i have free time, love your content man ❤
Thanks for watching! Glad I could provide you some movie recommendations 🤝
Really enjoyed your take on Ryan Gosling’s movies.
I actually really enjoyed The Gray Man. May it be generic? Sure. But the action set pieces with the comedy mixed in made me love it
i got gospilled from the big short, i thought his character was pretty funny. its also amazing seeing his progression and improvement as an actor.
Soder not understanding the patriarchy and point of barbie is iconic, lmfao
Recently rewatched the big short and man it's great I loved it
I like how you talk about ryan with so much passion and energy
I love Blue Valentine so much. I watched it right after my divorce and it really hit close to home. Michelle Williams is so magnetic in that film.
Lars and the Real Girl is such a beautiful film
No film has made me tear up as much as First Man. Incredible film
Hey man, thanks for making this video about me, much appreciated
You know what all the films have in common? Me, literally me!
I can't believe that there are people like you out there! I'm so grateful! Thank you for watching all my movies! ❤️
But of course, at the end they also showed us that despite all the lessons they taught “the world”, the world would misunderstand the core of the message and will still be tipped heavier to one side, the Barbies’ side, albeit a little bit better on listening to Kens, but the world still has a *very* long way to go in that process.
i think u missed the point of barbie
Probably
Sorry for the essay comment ;P Just some thoughts!! Ryan killed this role and was a brilliant and complex character, as usual. Love that guy. Thanks for the video; I've found some new things to watch :)
(I mentioned old movies from pre-1970 but it's rampant in current ones too, with men dominating the speaking characters and dialogue)
Glad to find another Ryan Gosling aficionado out there! Bro, when you started with Drive in the last spot I almost yelled!
this seems like a video made by a 10+ million subscriber channel, so well put together. Loved it. -Ryan Gosling (me)
Such a good video but I was so let down by your take on Barbie bc you saw it from the lens of a man
I would have to switch lala land to 3rd, and move drive and bladerunner up one.
Such a damn good video.
I support that change - my top 3 shifts a lot. Thanks for watching!
Glad you covered some of my favorite roles
what a great synopsis of a fantastic actor. i was definitely familiar with his work but i'm glad i watched this, you are talented
That means a lot!
