The Police were my second favorite band growing up after the Beatles! I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while.

Yeah, the Police. They were a breath of fresh air at the time. Sting`s voice, Andy`s guitar, and the great drumming. And high energy songs. Great choice!

For me, the closest The Police came to real Punk was "Dead End Job", the flip side of the 7" of Roxanne.
    Cool video Jeff!

So Lonely is my favorite. If there’s any doubt about Andy’s skill as a guitar master, just listen closely to his tasteful fills between verses…my favorite being the one at 18 seconds. Another crusher is at 1:50….Man, I hope this doesn’t lead me to getting a Telecaster!…lol

WOW!! I was soooo excited when I turned on my computer and went onto TH-cam... Deep Dive into The Police!! YES!! The Police are my 3rd favorite band (artist). They were my gateway into RUSH (My first favorite band, especially the 80's). I didn't like RUSH at all until I heard Signals (Subdivisions, The Analog Kid, etc.). The whole album felt like The Police (My favorite band in High School at the time). I pretty much know all of this stuff about The Police, but to get your reaction and commentary is Fabulous!! I SOOO... look forward to the next installment. Thanks, Jeff.

4:28 Mike Howlett was dismissed? No, Henry Padovani was dismissed. It was a murky, confusing time in The Police backstory.

This was great! I’ve seen all of this footage I think but you do such a fantastic job piecing everything together with your commentary it’s like seeing it for the first time. The Police are one of my favorites. I honestly have never gotten tired of Roxanne either. I actually like Can’t Stand Losing You better but both are big hits I still love. Honestly I probably actually like the Police even more now than I did back then or at least appreciate what they did. So I’m going to love this series. Hell I would be excited just hearing you talk about the Police in any fashion. I’ve always loved hearing you talk about them.

Loved the background at the beginning, a lot of information I knew nothing about. In the 80s The Police were my favorite band as well and I loved this debut. I can still picture myself in 1979 at a friend's house in Tucson, Az when I first heard this record. Looking forward to the others!

I liked them a lot before they broke up. I got tired of them after a while, and don't care for them much anymore. Having said that, I really still like this album a lot - it was always my favorite by them.

As a teen I remember hearing ROXANNE on Detroit Rock Radio and the year before mom bought me a portable 8-track player for my b day so naturally the second 8-track I ever bought was OUTLAWS OF LOVE on that disgusting vomit brown color cartridge tape. I played it so much the oxide rubbed off and all the highs were gone! Got it on all formats now.
    Excellent new series Jeff!

Thanks Jeff! I saw them live in a small venue just days before they broke big in the UK charts. It was superb. I am honored.
Possibly all 3 of them make it into best of shortlists:
    1. Most underrated drummer. 2. Most underrated guitarist. 3. Most pompous and arrogant lead singer (ooh, controversial, still difficult to beat Morrissey though).
    Cheers!

Killer video Jeff!! I love The Police ! I’m really happy you are doing these albums! You really nailed this one! Probably my least favorite album by them but still a masterpiece! It’s odd the first thing I think of when I hear Roxanne is Eddie Murphy! Killer song and album! One of your best videos brother 👍🤘🤘

Hi Jeff!! cool band choice to do a follow up to your Albums Deep Dives series.... I really like the Police a lot, a very classy rock/pop/new wave pop with an odd band chemistry and a perfect sutdio discography, imo. This album is the only one i don't own on any physical format, it might be their "weakest" but still a great record. cheers and be well

Does anyone know which King fell down the stairs as referenced in “Born in the 50’s”?…one of my favorite P9lice songs of all time. So Lonely is a masterpiece. Just listen to Andy’s tasty fill in licks between the verses.

The first 3 albums sound best on the original UK LP’s, the first 2 cut by Tony Bridge at CBS, snd Zenyatta at Strawberry Mastering. The rest are the same Sterling and RL Masterdisk cuts for most of the world.
Very important if you’re looking for the best these can ever sound. No tape drag on Roxanne, either.

i never thought of Police as anything like a punk band at all, i was into rock but many rock fans have a soft spot for reggae and funk, i never liked punk, to me it was like a boil on the bum of rock.
