The History of Houston, Texas!

  • I grew up in Houston, Texas. To be 100% exact I grew up in Cinco Ranch, which is in Katy, Texas, a suburb on the west side of Houston. I haven’t lived in Houston since I was 18 years old so it has basically been 12 years since I left! You can do the math as to how old I am lol
I have been living overseas the past couple of years, but I decided to move back to Houston this year and it has been an amazing experience to rediscover Houston and all it has to offer. I think Houston is an amazing city and this led me to research the History of Houston. How did Houston become what it is today? What factors in history have affected Houston’s course and growth?
The History of Houston is full of interesting people and important events and in this video I give you a recap of what I believe are some of the highlights in Space City’s history! I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching! Let’s go Houston!

Juan, You did a great job. I'm 73 and a native Houstonian, retired to Lake Geneva, WI. Growing up in Houston our grade-school was Texas history required studies. An hour every day. Also look into Freedmen Town as you research our early history. Keep it up.

I've lived in Houston all but the first 2.5 years of my life and a couple of years ago, wanted to actually dive into the history out of curiosity. I stumbled upon a wealth of books from Central library that featured some of the earliest photos of the city. You have to hand it to the Allen brothers who sold what was in reality a muddy swamp to their rich well to do friends and business partners as this glorious city where riches awaited with sparkling water and glorious lands, and of course then having invested and committed to moving to Houston, they found out the reality! And yet, here we all are today. Very nice summary/video.

Unfortunately, like all democrat run cities, Houston is being run into the ground, being overtaken with crime, because we have a terrible mayor in Sylvester Turner, and next on the list to run for mayor, and could possibly win is Sheila, Jackson, Lee and Houston will definitely become if not the worst city in the United States. If she’s elected, they have ruined a once great city.
