  • @deepakbanota8061

    You skipped / missed a step. All those coloured wires have insulation coating on them. You have to remove the coat before you solder the wires to the jack. If the coat is not removed, there will be no current flow. You can either use a sand paper to remove the coat or you can burn the coat with the help of that lighter. And make sure to insulate your wires again after soldering. You can either use insulating tape of silicon glue.

    • @Nematics_Lab
      @Nematics_Lab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +DEEPAK BANOTA Solder can get hot enough to burn that paint/coating I have seen people doing sandpaper but it is not mandatory :)

    • @deepakbanota8061
      @deepakbanota8061 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Nematic ! I thought that would work but solder didn't do a proper job. i mean, there was sound but i wasn't satisfied. burning the coat off was the best solution. the sound was as good as original. :) this is for people who are very particular about their music :p thanks!

    if you do this you want to make sure the differnt wires can not touch each other so put tape on them before the heat shrink, Never unplug by the cord on anything.
    Tip for soldering: Wipe off the end of your solder Iron with a clean damp sponge or damp paper towel, if its like this guys is you can knock off the junk down to the metal with a wire brush or file then put clean solder on it its called tinning your iron.
    You can also just buy new Tips and skip salvaging the old one.
    Solder joints that are clean hold better and make better contact, keep your solder iron clean, its a good habit to get into.

    Good Video. But for those who are reading comments before fixing understand that this video assumes you have at least minimal skills in electrical or wire repair like soldering and some basic equipment for working with wires like a multimeter and soldering iron. If not then after the cost of buying all the tools and parts you probably are better off just buying a new set of headphones or buds (as many have said in comments) unless you just want to learn to do this then I say go for it! If you do want to learn then you will want to read my entire comment as will help in the repair of the headphones in some areas not covered in this video. And even if it's easier to buy news headphones I like videos on how fix things and in that _sense_ Nematic is trying to help. Also I realize this video is over 2 years old. But if trying to help I suggest to Nematic (and I've watched a few other Nematic videos) he turn the music off and speak louder _since_ it's hard to understand what you're saying in some of the technical parts. (and that is not a criticism at all of you or your language or anything else... just a humble opinion on how to help hear you better by turning off music) So at 0:28 he tells us to "cut the cable just above the broken area" but here we need to be careful and not cut it to close to broken area and leave some room in the wire long enough to work with when time to reattach. I would say leave at least 1 inch of wire before you cut. Then at 0:43 you say "if your jack is ?? code with or covered or something??" "you will need to buy a new one". Be careful before buying a new 3.5 mm jack piece and plastic housing from the links he lists at his instructables website that's posted here in his info section below video. One listed is the Uxcell 10-Pieces Black Plastic Housing 3.5mm Audio Jack and you are wasting your time and money as they are cheap and break easy. The other one is a little better the Gold 4 Pole 3.5mm Male Repair Headphone Jack Plug Metal Audio Soldering & Spring by Electronics World because it has everything you need but both require some good soldering skill. But at this point if you are going to fix this audio jack you need to read the step by step description on this exact process of fixing an audio wire at link end of comment. Starting at1:18 to 1:25 where test the jack piece then at (AND THIS really bothers me when videos do this.. they just completely skip critical parts that are sometimes harder things to do like here ) at 1:37 you see what it ACTUALLY looks like when you strip the plastic off the wires then suddenly and magically at 1:38 the wires are all separated and perfect for fixing but for beginners this can be a little more complicated than it looked and you must take care to separate each one as some headphones have very thin wires which easily break when you try to pull off the insulation. But one of the problems with headphone cable specifically is that it often contains some thread to reinforce it. The thread makes soldering the cable pretty difficult. Usually, if I find threads in my cable, I just throw it away. But he had no problem separating and he made the soldering look simple - but it usually is anything but simple if you not quite use to soldering. Please see these instructions to get you through the whole way:
    music-and-its-greatness.blogspot.com/2019/07/more-information-on-how-to-fix-that.html
