    In AZ where we have a lot of stucco we use synthetic stucco to patch larger cracks. Paint wise mix in a gallon of Sealcrete per 5 for your first coat it makes the paint spray a lot better plus it helps bind the paint to the base, back roll if you want to more important if there's a color change, then apply second coat crosshatch and donzo!

    Repairing and painting a stucco home in So. CA by the ocean for almost 4 years inside and out. Have a foundation cement slab that has cracked horizontally the entire length of house, both sides. Dug a trench 6", pressure washed the crack and holes.. Will wait a few days then chip away at the cracks, loose stucco that was put on by the builders, and fill the holes and so on with morr flex and rapid mix mortar. Tedious job, but I did it 2 years ago on one side and my neighbors keep asking me who did the work. (Neighborhood tract homes, 50 years old) learned it all from watching your videos and so on. Have patched and done the eaves and fascia, which were chewed on pretty bad from termites and rot. Use a product called abatron. It's a putty that works great since I'm too old and too weak to change out 2 by 8 fascia and rafter tails. Want to thank you for your information throughout the years. Will be getting some loxon primer sealer next. Am finally going to have to find someone to paint the high sides of the home. I've done all I can. My next project is putting in a sprinkler system for established non lawn front and back. Hope you stay safe and God Bless.

    Do you have a video on repairing cracks and repaint of tennis courts ? I use to work on waterproofing decks with self leveling moisture cured polyurethane coating. However whether it’s a deck or concrete damage there’s techniques and certain types materials you must use to repair cracks that you must do in order for good adhesion which you already know. Most customers I run into that want to paint concrete want the cracks in concrete to disappear but I only have one technique that works but it’s labor intensive. Just wondering if you have any videos regarding concrete decks ?

    If a stucco has never been painted, would you forgo the primer since there shouldn't be any flaking paint? Will flat paint avoid the issues we get with paint with sheen (ie patches becoming visible due to the different in sheen because the paint is being absorbed differently.) Hope that makes sense.

      I'd recommend Dynaflex/Alex 230. Sane stuff but depends on which store you go to. I've seen installers put a 1" band around new windows and years later it hasn't popped lose. I've used it for a lot of window and door installs for interior and exterior, easy to work with. Bucket with water and a big sponge.

    I noticed that you don't use primer for the entire surface of the stucco. Is that because after spray washing the building and allowing it to dry, the stucco has a natural surface (with the exception of where you got down to bare, unpainted stucco) that allows the paint sprayed on and backrolled onto it to adhere well enough? You referenced Arizona where I live and my house only has one stucco'd wall that faces south. I plan to spray the entire house with a latex primer to ensure the 2 coats of paint will adhere well. Thx for any feedback and your professional thoughts. Semper Fi, John

    Is that an elastomeric caulk or silka flex ? I use to work on boats as a living before I jumped back into custom painting. My experience with elastomeric is not good the life of elastomeric is not that great but silka flex has a longer elastic life however you have to use a primer for silka otherwise it won’t stick properly but that’s my experience.
    As far stucco repair goes I do the same thing I like watching your videos, as long as I have been in this trade I’m learning better techniques.

      Stains will bleed through the paint. As for mildew, I'm not sure though I'm sure it has something to do with it being a living organism that will also bleed through the paint. Or maybe just think of it as dirt. You don't paint over dirt or the paint will fail. (👈 Best answer I could give😉)

    • @stevel1475
      @stevel1475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your're not handy to cut and install wood, you could chip away loose pieces. Put on a wood hardener called Wood Petrifier then apply PC Woody epoxy. When dry sand down, primer/paint. I would do a double coat of paint where the trouble spot is. One last thing you may wanna apply all the work under the pieces under the door and in the inner bottom of the door like a foot in height. Moisture was most likely wicking up into the wood hence rot and warpage.

    Why painting stucco? After a couple of years painting starts peelling and you have to repaint it over again. Better to leave it naturally unpainted. A wash from time to time suffice. Also if you put painting over stucco you will prevent the wall to breath and encourage moisture behind it.

    • @pjmisley
      @pjmisley 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If done with breathable waterbased primer/paint it wont peel for many years. And that drab looking building will look so much better when freshly painted

    • @AltruisticWarrior
      @AltruisticWarrior 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Latex flat paint should not peel away from the stucco and it allows for it to breathe without issue. Eventually it will get powdery when it's old but that's what a good pressure wash is for.
