today i saw a heartbreaking vid with a girl with 2 guinea pigs in an extremely small cage, then in the same vid they were put in a cage where they had to climb to get food and water, and there were risky, unsafe "toys" for them to play with, it just makes my heart bleed for those piggies!

As much as i like the ramps and lofts i have 4 pigs sepperated. Im still got 20% that they can be caged but i needed to wait for 2 werks. I likeyour set up the best. I lovethe way your hubby and you build that simple peaces of wood and getting the pigges off the ground. I think they will liveless stressed out this way. I just needto build so.ething lime it.

I had one that is 9 squares across and my pig went through it and didn't get stuck. Only 2 times she did that she got her head stuck.
If guinea pigs are small, they grids need to be baby proofed.

Kinda sounds like me when I try to sew my ratties hammocks and liners. Lots of swearing, lots of throwing sh**. I don't like sewing. But for happy fur babies, the struggle is worth it.
Oh my gosh this is amazing, I almost doubled my cage from a 6 by 2 feet to 12 by 2 feet, but I do kind of like the corner turn. I have a whole room in my house that nobody is using, but I don't think anyone will really let me use it for my pigs. However I really hope I can make their cage larger. Also were did you get the tables that your cages rest on, did you make them?
A gentleman that I know does wood working, so I just asked him to make those for me.

New Subbie here i love this cage. we just got a baby hedgehog and man the cage the pet store gave us with our hedgehog is not even suitable for a baby hedgehog! i could not find these grids at target but glad to see that walmart has them. what area did you find them? i also have a channel but i do Dollar tree Hauls home decor and DIY stuff.

You can, but if your guinea pigs are chewers, it won't last long ( i know mine are!), if you wanted to use something else, linoleum would be the best choice because they can't chew it as easy (if at all).

Coraplast was so expensive here & I had several sheets of lumber. I cut the bottom then attached 6" high wood side rails all the way around then enclosed it all with the wire grids. I didn't want them chewing on plastic. I painted the outside of side rails & put designs. No paint on inside because they may chew it. Personal question, what type of job do you have that allows a full sleeve? I'm a nurse & cant have any that show at work. I've learned a lot from you. My Piggies say thank you.

Imagine Anything Happened to me. I got a Piggie and they said the Piggie was female, since I couldn't tell at the time I called him a girl for a 2 years of his life lol. Luckily i found out the "she" was a male before i got a female buddy lol.

Isaac Yanez You can, but you must quarantine the new pig for a week or so to make sure he/she isn't sick, then you have to introduce them on neutral territory (a room they haven't been in before), and watch for signs of domainance, like "rumblestrutting", that means they are determining whose boss, only seperate them if they bare their teeth, stand on their hanches and the hair sticks up, because it will lead to bloodshed. Also, NEVER put a male and female together, they will mate and you'll end up with babies, and it could possibly kill the mom. (not trying to be rude, I just don't want it to happen)

Hi! Soon I've been planning on building maybe a 2x6 pig cage. I have 4 Guinea pigs but one doesn't like one of them, so would 2x6 be big enough to divide a bit so the one has its own separate area when I'm bonding them?
I don't really know the sizes haha.
2 guinea pigs need a 2by4 section each. So I would make a 2by8 that is divided and have 2 pairs, so no one lives alone (if you have all the same sex of guinea pigs that is).
Do you need to out grids under the Coroplast it will be on the floor. (Making a 2 by 5 for 2 piggies :)

For 1 pig a 3x2 area would suffice, for more space you can build a 4x2 or even a 5x2 as guineas need space to explore and play to maintain happiness.
For a 3x2 you would need 10 wire mesh grids, plus approx 4+ extra to create a heightened area to reduce climbing or build a loft and 20+ connectors. A popular cage design includes a 1x2 or 2x2 loft area for additional exploring or a bed/feeding area. Some websites offer to include the correx sheet for the loft area, however you can purchase any amount of correx sheets (corrugated plastic) from DIY stores or Sign maker stores, the aluminium shop and grendle enterprises in the U.K. are great for finding C&C cage parts. You may need to cut, score and fold the sheets yourself so leave enough room for a 16cm margin. A 3x2 cage requires 107cm Height x 72cm Width

+Skinnypigs1, the website storesupply.com sells single grid panels if you are interested in the future. This is nice for cage makers who don't use the connectors because you can get the exact number of grids you need, and you don't have to pay for unused connectors that come with the regular box sets. Also, their grids have the smaller squares and are available in white or black. Keep up the great work on your cages and videos! Can't wait to see your precious new piggy soon! :)

Avalovethe Horse if you can't find anything try putting a mesh screen on the outside of the grids or a screen door screen, just make sure the piggies can't chew it.
You can line the exterior of the cage with coroplast or plexiglass too

Um I actually have a question, I want so much more for my piggies because their cages are very small for their size but since I am not even a teenager yet so can't get a c and c cage. So I was wondering how I could persuade him to get these materials, and I asked him once but he doesn't like them at all so that was a no. I was just wondering what I could do I mean my piggies are perfectly healthy and happy but I just think that a bigger cage instead of what they have would be the best thing. Hope you can help.

I have this crazy fear that if I build a cage like this, my guinea pig will be able to climb out and then fall off the tablet and die... Has anything like ever happened? are they not climbers? I know a hamster would be OUT of that cage in seconds hahaha
Guinea Pigs aren't climbers, they'll be fine in a C&C Cage. Rats, mice, gerbils, and hamsters can't live in these cages though because they can climb.

When I was a kid, my mom rescued a pregnant piggie that had two babies- a boy and girl. She made a two tiered cage that was huge. It had a part for the boy above and the girls were below so they could still see and hear each other. It was just like this with the squares and chloroplast! I thought she was the only one who used this. Also, we had a huge yard so we built a cage that allowed the ground available for the guinea pigs to eat and the top sheltered. When I get Guinea pigs again I'm doing that. Is it ok?
If you say you are keeping them outside, I would say no. The temperatures will be harsh on the guinea pig.

So I have a question. You had your piggies next to a window. Is that okay? I heard that the draft could cause problems and I just wanted to make sure if it is okay. I wanted to know since I am planning on getting a piggy soon and I need to know where to put it.
I had high coroplast walls by the window, so no draft would ever blow directly on them. I found close to a window hard to keep the temperature okay though. Sun shining in I had to close the blinds half way if not more or else the room got too hot. I would put them in a room with a window but not right next to the cage.

Yes, bedding is just fine. Aspen or paper based beddings like Care Fresh.

You can easily make lids for c&c cages. You can attach the grids to one side of the cage only so you can flip the lid open and buy latches to keep it closed.

What are the dimensions of the cage? The minimum space Guinea pigs need is 4x2 c&c, which is about 5 feet by 2 1/2 feet. Most, if not all, store cages are WAY too small for Guinea pigs and rabbits. C&C cages are great for them!

Although some guinea pigs will always be shy, the best way to gain their trust is to sit them on your lap under a blanket to make them feel safe, and pet them softly, offer veggies, and talk softly to him.
