  • I waited two a half years to get my StamChild SA-670 so I decided to make an unboxing video.
    Disclaimer: I have no idea how to make a video. Also, the audio sucks which is ironic but not shocking.

    It boxes the mix in in a way that is magical.

      Actually it make the mix in a way outside the box

    I too don't usually watch unboxing videos BUT I understand why you'd want to do this video, it must be pretty exciting to wait so long for a piece like this. Assuming you're happy with it, it must feel like it's worth a lot more now that rumors are that Joshua won't be making more (too time consuming and not profitable for him). From what I heard in your quick demo, I could certainly appreciate the difference through my Genelec's. Congrats on a nice compressor.

    Nice unboxing, thanks Noah, cool unit. 2 1/2 years though...ouch. Been looking at the Unfairchild myself, but have been curious about this Stam Unit, which looks really nice.

    Mine's coming tomorrow. I was one of the mastering stepped controller guys, too. Looks beautiful. Can't wait to give it a spin.

    Would love to hear some examples with the side chain filter engaged, as the side chain is a different design then the originals i’ve worked on. Happy for ya! Enjoy!

    • @hheadmusic
      @hheadmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the side chain in the signal path? I thought it was just for the triggering of the threshold like the Manley Vari-Mu? I need to read that manual.

    • @rhythmpaint3771
      @rhythmpaint3771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hheadmusic oh no no :) it's only filtering the trigger signal. the original has like a 100w tube amp where you can set the DC threshold/bias. like a pseudo ratio/side chain high pass thing. so the response is going to be a little different.

    dude, thank you for demo. let us know your impressions of the unit now that it's been a few months! vs your manley? and from one aging hipster to another, your hair looks great. in all sincerity! it looks effortless :)

  • @Ninja6485
    @Ninja6485 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you read the manual, before you power it on, you need to turn the threshold and input down, otherwise the rush of current could do damage.

    Thanks for making this video. How is it compared to the Manley? Aside from the Manley probably cleaner and less thick…
    Are you still using the Stamchild?

    I’m thinking of ordering one of these I’m just wondering what your experience was dealing with the company obviously 2 1/2 years to wait for some thing is a long time but if you could share with the community a bit of your experience that would be awesome

    • @hheadmusic

      They communicate very very well but are slow as shit. Frankly, I'd rather wait 2 1/2 years to get a stellar device rather than get it quick and it be junky.

    It's a producers dream. But nevertheless nowadays you pay the money for the look, for the touch and for a feeling that deeply satisfies you. The sound you can archive with some plugins too. Blindtests proof it. But enjoy it.

    • @hheadmusic
      @hheadmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a weird relationships with blind tests. The brain can trick you in many ways even in an ABX test. The only thing I can say about plug-ins versus hardware is that every day forever the plug-ins will be the same. With hardware, especially this unit with its many tubes, every day is slightly different. That difference inparts a sound into the music that’s unquantifiable. Similar to the way this song imparts a feeling to the listener.
      That sounds hokey pokey but it’s why I still use hardware.

    • @NikolausBrocke
      @NikolausBrocke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hheadmusic
      Yes, I can understand it. As I am from the hardware generation too, I love hardware since they are a better investment of course. But I worked for two big music software companies in the past and had a lot of discussions with developers...

      About nonlinear behavior of hardware: I can remember a quote from a famous producer of the 80s. He said that he was glad when he could record on digital machines instead of analog tape because with analog machines he never knew how his mix will sound tomorrow.

    • @hheadmusic
      @hheadmusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NikolausBrocke of course but it’s that unpredictability that I like. Our ears are analog.

    • @nicholasflores8100
      @nicholasflores8100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're both great in their own ways. Hybrid is the wave. Digital doesn't sound better then analog and analog doesn't sound better then digital but each hold specific characteristics that the other doesn't. Together you can achieve some pretty incredible shit.

      That's a shame, b/c I just got mine and it sounds glorious. It was ready about 6 months after ordering (I was expecting a much longer wait time, given the social climate in Chile). I may have to sell off other gear, b/c I will likely be running literally everything through just the StamChild.

    If you like, I'll sell you a matching power cable for only $2000.
