I'm a Zimbabwean teacher and so amazed and humbled at the high praises coming from fellow Africans. We all have weaknesses in some areas and strengths in others but united as a continent we can complement one another and go far!
Our problem in quite a number of African countries is poor leadership and to a certain extent lack of academic grounding by those leaders compounded by not appointing appropriate persons as technocrats.

I think our education is hard but not effective. Because one of the reasons our economy is bad is also credited to education. The system is old and outdated. Our education hasn't evolved since the 90s. That's not a great sign at all

They can compete with Harvard, Yale and all those IVY leagues university because their education is just that good. Wits, UCT etc. Aren't really nothing. A Zimbabwean can actually get into an IVY league university without having to write any test whereas south African have to do all these TOEFL,SAT, etc. South African Education has nothing on zimbwean education. In Europe, Asia and America, Zimbabweans get first preference at university then maybe South African can be considered. Our university first year maths, they do that like in their second last year of high school which is why they are so good when they are in South African universities. Because the things we are doing in University, they did that in High school.

I am Zimbabwean born and staying in South Africa .. and I often help people doing Honours degrees and Masters when I am only a college graduate. Respect Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria and Egypt these countries are really good. These rankings are based on technology and infrastructure development and not on the quality of the outcome, meaning the quality of the graduate.
It would be better if they gave students a chance to choose their interests, e.g; you must learn Kiswahili, whether it will help your future job or not.
Zimbabwe might not have the best schools or colleges but when it comes to the education system and the literacy rate i believe we are one of the best in Africa
Kenya is breaking the records each year. As a teacher in a high school we are soon implementing the COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULUM which is going to revolutionise education, make it global and make us a bench mark for the world. Digital skills, creativity and critical thinking is our top priority.
Uganda has already started the competency based curriculum. However, we as teachers are still adjusting to the new system as it's some challenges. Training is still ongoing.
Zimbabwe used to be good but now..... No teachers in the schools. Teachers been on strike for years no learning in the public schools. Govt failing to cope and can't afford to pay teachers the USF580 a month salary that they demanding.

Surely, the factors that contribute to creating a good education system are numerous and varied. The Zimbabwean government is poor and the investment towards education is paltry. Having given all those cons, how the Zimbabwean system successfully producing the best teachers, engineers, medical doctors, accountants, lawyers etc. Is because of sheer natural intelligence, I don't think so. There is something about the Zimbabwean education system that makes it through even in such difficult times.

Do you ever check stats or do you go with popular opinions? Zim never had the best education system in Africa that was just hype and because Africans are too lazy, they just go with popular opinions. Kenya historically dominated and zim was always behind Kenya, it was up until the end of 1994 when SA gained independence and the rest is history. North African countries like Libya we're always up there as well

Zimbabwe is history u talking about. Zimbabwe had good education up to 90s but from 2000 up it became empty. Best skills & lecturers left Zimbabwe mainly to other parts of the region or world. There is a relationship between Economic decay & quality of education in general. Zimbabwe is history. I wouldn't send my kid to Zimbabwe today Noways. Forget. I come across Zimbabweans who finished grade 12 in Zim but they so dissapointing.

@@neomalele9449 as a south African myself, I must tell you that Zim education beats SA by far. Zim education is on a whole new different level. They can compete with Harvard, Yale and all those IVY leagues university because their education is just that good. Wits, UCT etc. Aren't really nothing. A Zimbabwean can actually get into an IVY league university without having to write any test whereas south African have to do all these TOEFL,SAT, etc. South African Education has nothing on zimbwean education. In Europe, Asia and America, Zimbabweans get first preference at university then maybe South African can be considered. Our university first year maths, they do that like in their second last year of high school which is why they are so good when they are in South African universities. Because the things we are doing in University, they did that in High school.

Respect Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Nigeria and Egypt these countries are really good. These rankings are based on technology and infrastructure development and not on the quality of the outcome, meaning the quality of the graduate.

Uganda has already started the competency based curriculum. However, we as teachers are still adjusting to the new system as it's some challenges. Training is still ongoing.

Zimbabwe used to be good but now..... No teachers in the schools. Teachers been on strike for years no learning in the public schools. Govt failing to cope and can't afford to pay teachers the USF580 a month salary that they demanding.

Those who say Zim education is good are those countries who poorly educated before like Namibia during apartheid. Some fields of study were reserved for whites only like science and others. Blacks mainly did commerce, education or administration. That's why namibians say Zim is supposed to be but my rating is low of Zim education today. Zimbabweans flicked to Namibia after independence but they can't today coz Namibians are now well educated in all spheres of life.

Surely, the factors that contribute to creating a good education system are numerous and varied. The Zimbabwean government is poor and the investment towards education is paltry. Having given all those cons, how the Zimbabwean system successfully producing the best teachers, engineers, medical doctors, accountants, lawyers etc. Is because of sheer natural intelligence, I don't think so. There is something about the Zimbabwean education system that makes it through even in such difficult times.
