What DIFFERENCE do Assists REALLY Make in Forza Motorsport?

  • I can drive Kyalami very consistently, so do any of these results surprise you as they did me? I must say seeing the difference between TC (On) + ABS (On) and the other laps I'd run first was the biggest surprise. However, the ABS/Traction Control (Sport)/Stability Control (Sport) being all within a few hundredths of a second seems to suggest those don't really make much negative difference to your driving performance. The times were too close there to come up with a clear conclusion.
    Full Stability Control set to "On" rather than "Sport" was extremely restrictive and a clear outlier in the results that you probably shouldn't bother with.

    There I was thinking my 1st assumption was wrong, yet Traction Control On rather than Sport seemed to make a positive difference. Good job I tried as I nearly didn't. Thanks for watching and feel free to SUBSCRIBE/Like/Comment and all that good stuff to see more Forza Motorsport videos from me in future! If you've had different results I'd love to hear them 🧡

    Given that TC doesn’t come on much with this car and track I would think you would see a larger difference with a more stock street car especially without race tires

      Yeah the Sport mode especially was unresponsive so not much different to having it turned off. I would like to run some more car tests, like you say. Noticing a pace improvement with a car that shouldn't have those sorts of assists would be interesting.

      Well nothing wrong in my opinion of anybody setting TC/ABS car-appropriately or less experienced drivers running with the combo that means they spin out and lock up less. Racing is about running consistently first, there's not much fun in facing the wrong way or sliding into people/off-track just because you're too proud to use assists. Best of luck and thanks for watching! 👍

      That's good information. Stability control caused a weird crabbing effect that slowed me down, which is similar to how traction control felt in the front-wheel drive cars. Those are better without imo as my Touring Car multiplayer highlights from October weren't using assists and felt great.

      @@Waapitii It's sometimes helpful to look at the Rivals leaderboards for certain cars. If many of the quickest guys are using TC or ABS, it's usually a good hint that the car either (a) should have those assists built-in and/or (b) the cars are too slippery to be competitive without them.

    In prior games the TCS and STM made a much larger difference around A class, where the rear wheel drive cars had enough power to slip the tires and start a 30 second drift every corner exit, but not enough downforce and overall balance to keep grip maintained. Things like upgraded muscle cars, road going BMWs and Ferraris, etc. and in prior games the TCS and STM was TERRIBLE and felt awful with a wheel. You would feel it either cutting power for way too long, or applying too much braking force and kind of ruining your corner. But you still had to use it because otherwise as mentioned you had to underdrive the car on the knifes edge or risk sliding too much.

    • @hotcircuit
      @hotcircuit  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amazing comment, thanks for the extra information. The slower "STM on" lap felt pretty bad as the car was crabbing out of corners where you'd normally rely on a bit of slide. After your comment and some others I think a very tail happy car test might be in order 😬

  • @integrantedavidanoturna
    @integrantedavidanoturna 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I feel like this varies with the car and the class. On E class, in my experience, you save a lot of time turning everything off. Those cars are much easier to control, however, and most of them don't really have abs, tc or st built in them irl, so I guess that makes sense. Modern sport cars are built with abs and tc in mind so they probably should run faster with those on. I feel like those assists should be upgrades instead of menu options since they are so car-dependent

    • @hotcircuit
      @hotcircuit  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, global game options seem odd for cars that should just have them included. Upgrades would make it clearer than having to do your own research to check if the car should or shouldn't. Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment 👍

    clearly it depends how good of a driver ytou are because my tc light doesnt go off lol and the tc removes ALL power from the cars unless my games buggy. stability control is not the same but does slow me down a bit tc though unless im ina super powerful car has to be off or im multple seconds slower

    • @hotcircuit
      @hotcircuit  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the TC to On was more active than the TC Sport setting which seemed to only intervene a few times during the lap. With the full TC being faster I assumed it did more, anyway. Stability control fully on actually made the car crab in a weird fashion if I took a corner really quick, which overall made the car slower. I think that might be the effect you're seeing with powerful cars too, so it might be best to keep it off and rely on Traction Control.

    Pretty sure the difference in time is due to getting better with the car other than ST, stability control should just always be off.
    Additionally, you should of really picked a car that actually triggers TCS as it would be a more accurate comparison on whether TCS actually benefits on a car that needs it.

    • @hotcircuit
      @hotcircuit  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When I made this video it was pretty early days of the game, so I thought I was pretty safe testing a GT3 that should have TCS. It seems like maybe they compensate for this with just the general handling of the car being easier no matter which in-game assists you choose. After a bit more time now I think the much more aggressive KTM X-Bow GT2 would've been a better car for this as the difference with/without assists is much clearer. Cheers for your comment as you raise a decent point 👍

      @@hotcircuit Trying to tame the X-Bow GT2 when it gets on boost in lower gears without TC is a nightmare, but I do it anyway because no TC is what I'm used to. I’ve always ran no assists. For a few reasons. As a controller player I get the most feedback this way. Another is driving with assists is boring to me. I think it is important to note for anybody that the thing you should do is the thing that works for you, absolutely agree. A bit silly of a test to do in a GT can do this on a car that is very tail happy rwd maybe some fwd or awd lots of power and throttle management required to control wheel spin then you may see traction control hindering lap times you should really redo this test with a slippy car

    • @hotcircuit
      @hotcircuit  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The test idea came out of driving GT3s in other games such as ACC/iRacing which of course offer car-based ABS/TC assists as in real life. With Forza, as they're presented as game assists I wanted to see if the GT3 swayed towards being better with the assists it was meant to have or not. Having said that, I'm definitely not arguing your point as I definitely want to test across a wider range of vehicles in the near future. Really appreciate your input and taking the time to watch 👍

    See toy on a wheel? Your tc won’t engage if you have stability on! For GT cars you def need to use TCS. For all others only ABS. Always use sim steering on a wheel. 😊
    For GT, TC sports and ABS is fastest.

    • @hotcircuit

      Thanks for the extra info, without a visual indicator that stability is kicking in I really wasn't sure which one it leant on more. You'd think they might disable TC in the menu when stability was turned on if it wasn't going to be used. I also think the game should enable the assists available on the car you're driving, then it's up to you if you want to disable them via hotkey/button.

      I think assists might need to be judged on a car-by-car basis. I agree the test here didn't necessarily use the most unstable car but I was keen to see what a GT3 would be like with/without its regular onboard assists. FWD touring cars were slower for me with assists as the TC bogged the car down on throttle.
