LOL the beginning of the video is a prime example of the everyday struggle I have with my BRZ. Instead of taking it as a negative, I just tell myself I have automatic closing doors.
thanks for this. thats been annoying the hell out of me for the duration of my BRZ ownership, and you've shown me the exact part i need to make my door behave again. annoyance tip from me, this should be on your list: get some wide angle side mirrors. the blind spot on this car is really bad with the stock mirrors. it was driving me nuts for a while, so i went looking around the internet, and there are plenty of after-market mirror options with just a bit of a convex curve. its way better, i highly recommend it.
Not to say that the new mirrors are a bad choice, but my FR-S has fantastic visibility, better than most cars I've owned. You sure your mirrors are set up correctly??
@@skyty0 yeah my '17 86 has great blind spot visibility, at least in comparison to my '03 camry that was the only other car I've driven longterm. I'm close enough to the mirrors to where I don't really even have a blind spot. I check over my shoulder just in case but it's never been an issue. The visibility out the rear leaves something to be desired, but that's the case with all cars that meet modern crash safety standards
I have a 2014 and I can tell you that this is the MOST ANNOYING thing about these cars. I'm only 5'7", but the door not staying open, especially on a hill, is insanely frustrating. My shins are always bruised... Thanks for this vid. Just ordered myself a couple of those checks. Also, thank you for including the parts link. Keep up the great videos.
I had the same rolling noise on my 2011 Subaru Tribeca, but it was a crayola marker that my daughter let fall down between the carpet and the bottom of the vehicle, under the driver seat. It took me forever to find it!
This video comes right on time! My BRZ is annoying me every single time with the fxxking door. Somehow the passenger’s side is still functional. This car has 3 previous owner. Which means all of the previous owners didn’t successfully bring a girl to the passenger seat for a long term😢. I’m having really bad feeling that I couldn’t make it either😢.
I am having trouble with the door stop on my Forester. Didn't know what a door stop was called going to see about replacing mine now that I know what it is.
A very timely video! Just got a 2015 Outback and noticed the doors don’t hold well. I don’t have much experience working on cars, but your explanation and demonstration of replacing the door checks make this seem very doable by a newbie like me. Thanks!
Rather than peeling back the door plastic which is a messy job, perhaps cut a slit in the plastic with a stanley knife to gain access. Then can simply tape it back up when complete.
Hello MrSubaru! I just recently found your channel and love it, subscribed straight away! Thanks for all the valuable information! I know its off topic here, but could you give some advise on which years of a used Subaru Forester to avaoid? Much appriciated :-) Greetings from Japan!
I just thought the doors closing like that were normal definitely gonna get some door checks asap Thank you for making these videos they've really helped me keep the brz going strong !
Unrelated random note. We took delivery of a 2023 WRX Premium yesterday (Magnatite Gray). It's beautiful. Got the STI exhaust and some other extras too.
Thanks for the inspiration for tackling the "door check" issue on my 99 Crown Vic, also as someone that's just over 6'1", lol. Really minor issue that I've just been living with, but yeah, quality of life improvement for something so simple. Hoping mine is similarly affordable. (and thanks for naming it - I never would have thought of calling it that)
Ayy lmao, looks like I have to pull the entire door and hinges off to properly fix mine, all for a piece of foam or felt. Might just continue living with it. 😢
Thank you for the video. It's crazy how lucky you where to notice the 11mm socket and that it happen to rest in that place in that moment. :) How many miles has your BRZ rolled in total?
Just saying since it's is possible that someone switched things around or installed something made in America. When you found the 11mm socket, that tells me that someone used an SAE nut/bolt. 11mm and 7/16" are pretty close to the same size.
You are the man with these Subaru's. I'm up in the North East and my 2019 Impreza is just at 31600k so my dealer warranty service is over. I trust no one to work on it. Hopefully I can come down to you and get a few things sorted out before summer is over. That would be great! Cheers
Could you not replace the door check through the speaker opening? I would much rather unbolt and remove the speaker than disturb the adhesive holding the plastic sheeting.
My wrx had a similar issue with rolling bolt sounds in the sunroof area - every turn had a noise. I was able to use a scope and magnet to retrieve 2 bolts that had never been used - weird
1 second ago My '18 WRX dislikes it when you disconnect the window and lock controls with the battery connected. I lose the ability to control the other windows from the driver's door controls. Should disconnect the battery first.
I remember working only on Subaru's (cause that was all I owned) in the 80's. I kept telling everyone 10,12,14,17,19,21,22,30,32,36mm sizes used. I had even removed the 11,13,15,18, etc sizes from my toolbox. Years later, I had bought a Ford and found a use for the 11,13,15, and 18 sizes lol. Now, they are all in my toolbox. I did work on a 2006 Outback and the caliper hose to the caliper uses a 11mm socket. Perhaps that is aftermarket?

His brz is an auto but my subaru does the same, it's not the actual clutch it's the pinion in the back of the peddle on my 03 forester, it's been doing it since I got it to the point I'v forgotten about it 🤣
My 06 outback is starting to do this, but not bad enough to address yet. It looks like it's been lubricated and may be medal. I was thinking just remove the lubricant or put something sticky on it. Make sense?
Mr Subaru, can you shed any additional light on the ongoing battery failure issue with 2017 and 2018 outback’s and legacy’s? (And other years and models). 2 of my close friends have had severe battery failure issues with no acceptable resolution by the local Subaru dealer. One friend had his failed battery replaced 2-3 times after not starting in his garage. After no resolution of the issue by the dealer, he sold it to an online dealer and bought a Honda cr-v. Another friend had same battery probs with his 2018 (?) legacy. The dealer pulled out his entertainment/map system and said ok it’s fixed, here you go. They made a weak offer to sell him a new car as alternative. In your opinion mr Subaru, what is really going on with these cars that are destroying the battery? Subaru days are numbered if this keeps up. Thanks. Ps. Could it be a bad controller area network module? Poor software or something like that?
20+ yrs working on my own cars and never owned a torque wrench.. what make/models ya recommend for my wheels and lite engine work? Appreciate any input and advice
Socket in the frame... previous owner might have pissed their mechanic off... OR... shady ass shop did it to get the P.O. to come back and get unnecessary work done!
Question if possible, HVAC actuator on a 2013 WRX. I'm assuming dash needs to come out for it or maybe just some of the lower paneling? How much of a pain is it to tackle?
Hey actually I got my passenger window replaced and now my window rolls down but not up. It’s not the window switch nor the fuses. Should I just replace the motor and the regulator
A little off topic but changing the fluid in my wife's 2013 crosstrek cvt transmission and someone used gear oil. Should I look for another transmission or can I flush it out with a couple more changes?
Sorry my question is about my 2018 crosstrek. If my break pads on the rear are indicating 4 mm but my driving is very limited as I only have 36,000 kilometres on the car in 5 years that’s about 3,600 kilometres every 6 months should I replace my rear pads at this point ?

A door not staying open would be annoying. And you got a free socket for your tool box.
Atleast it's not like my ford with doors that don't stay closed
The video was worth it to see the Vessel rechargeable screwdriver in action. I'll add it to my list of tools you have me buying.

I recommend going with the 2022 door checks. They’re a direct upgrade and hopefully wont degrade over time like the original ones.

For now, I just park headed downhill
I have two to replace, thanks, great video
You make it look so!... easy! I would be in the garage with that problem for about six months!
Pulling door panels on this car is very easy, on some makes and models it can be a major pain and you can end with broken pins and panels very easily.

Nice cordless screwdriver, just put one in my cart 👍

I’m shocked that with all the tools you have you did it by hand haha pretty nice
