    I’m definitely getting After Hours and Time Bandits 4K. And maybe Repo Man, Miller’s Crossing, and Straw Dogs. I’ve only seen After Hours of these. I’m very impressed with your collection!

    I have already ordered way too many discs and we're not even a day into the sale. Cat People was among the discs I ordered this morning, so I'm glad to hear that you appreciated the special features on that one. You also mentioned I Married a Witch with Veronica Lake and it just made me wonder if you might be aware of any good books or documentaries about her. I just can't take my eyes off her when she is on the screen and I would like to learn more about her, sadly, troubled life. Thanks for the recommendations, they are always appreciated.

      Hi Steve. I still need to place an order. Would love to know what you think about Cat People including the Val Lewton documentary on the release. I love those documentaries and feel it was well done in my humble opinion. I haven't read any documentaries about Veronica Lake but noticed that there is an autobiography on Amazon. So many sales this month, hope you enjoy!

      I love Cat People, subtle horror with beautiful sets and strong performances. Looking forward to checking out the special features when I get my hands on this release.

    I didn’t know that silence of the lambs was a criterion movie. My brother has the 4K and I remember it was on a different label

    Hey Dave. I too was saddened from the passing of Alan Arkin. My earliest memory of him was as the chief in ‘So I Married an Axe Murderer’. I thought he was subdued and very funny. In peculiar in a scene where a detective voiced his displeasure that Arkin wasn’t as tough as the police chiefs in the movies - “Hey, somebody needs a hug!” Arkin replied.

      Yes, sad news. One of my favorite actors! My wife and I were watching Little Miss Sunshine last night which we've seen so many times and he is so funny in it.

      Thanks Jon. Highly recommend The In-Laws, so quirky and funny. I really didn't understand the appeal when I saw it at the theater in my high school years but have grown to love it. Hope you enjoy the sale.

    I loved seeing “Simon of the Desert” as a recommendation! It is one of my favorite Bunuel films, too. I would love to see it and Viridiana get a Blu-ray/4K upgrade soon.
    As for the current sale, I have already picked up Blow Out, Klute, When We Were Kings, A Night to Remember, and Tom Jones.

    Thanks for the recommendations. I have most of them but I ordered the ones I don't. Interestingly enough "The In-Laws" is sold out online at B&N and all the local B&N stores. I will get it eventually though. I'm curious how many Criterion films you have. I just decided to separate out my Criterion films to separate shelves, actually a new revolving media tower. I think I have somewhere between 700 to 900 Criterion released films but that includes some duplicate upgrades (dvd to blu-ray. dvd to 4K or blu-ray to 4k) and some which I have both single disc release and in some box sets. I need to cull some of the duplicates, especially if I want them to fit in the tower. I know a number of box sets won't fit in it though. Then this starts me thinking about separating out Arrow, Shout Factory, etc. Probably won't do that though.

    • @CinemaDaveMedia

      Thanks for your comment. At last count, I have about 450 Criterion releases including box sets.

    I'm still trying to catch up on screening purchases from previous sales I haven't gotten to yet, so a light list for me this year. For go-around I'm gonna get TARGETS and AFTER HOURS--then in November it'll be THE TRIAL and MOONAGE DAYDREAMS...

    A lot of great suggestions here. I swung by a B&N and picked up a couple of new releases - the Branded to Kill 4K and
    The Servant Blu. I’m probably going to order After Hours and the Ranown Westerns set and then maybe another blind buy and be done.

    Thanks Dave for the great selections. "Paris, Texas" seems a likely candidate for a 4K release (especially since Wenders' "Wings of Desire" was recently upgraded) but I'm going to bite the bullet and pick up the Blu-ray during this sale. Bill Forsyth's "Local Hero" (#994) is also on my list. Not sure if that one is in your collection but I consider it one of Criterion's overlooked gems. Enjoy the sale!

      Yes, so true - would be great to see a 4K for Paris, Texas. I mostly buy Blu-rays but it is good to see upgrades especially when I don't have the movie. Local Hero is on my wishlist and it might be time to pick it up. Hope you enjoy the sale too!

    Is there any difference in value or collector appeal between jewel case + digipak?

    • @CinemaDaveMedia
      @CinemaDaveMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do like both formats. All of the David Lynch film releases are digipacks, very good though the edges often get damaged or crumpled a bit. The jewel cases protect the movies and artwork a little better in my humble opinion.

      @@CinemaDaveMedia Thank you. One more question: when Criterion offers many titles by one director -- say, Bergman or Pasolini -- in a huge box set, do the box set versions still have ALL of the extras from the Criterion individual releases?

    • @CinemaDaveMedia
      @CinemaDaveMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@issadad To my knowledge yes but good to check the Criterion website. There may also be even more extras on a box set.

    Sorry if you’ve done this before but do you have a possible estimation as to your *total* haul value?
    Also, is there a best time to look for copies like soon or are they likely to increase in value as time passes? meaning the longer you wait to collect perhaps the more it will cost?
    i’d love to build a collection as big as yours. Preferably working my way through my absolute favourites to those with lesser regard but still important similar to how yours is.
    --
    Also, what percentage of your collection is unwatched/to be watched and what percent of your collection do you think you’ll never get round to watching in favour of other stuff taking priority/precedent?
    This is amazing to me i’m so interested and fascinated.
    Peace Dave

    • @CinemaDaveMedia
      @CinemaDaveMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. Not sure what my total haul value would be. I do shop for Criterion mostly during sales though sometimes titles are 50% off on Amazon so I might pickup a few there also if the price is right. My collection is curated meaning that I don't collect everything (though would love to have every Criterion) and I do donate a few films every year to my local library. It's only an estimate but I would say that I've seen about 70% of films that I own. I do often get involved in TV shows/series which distracts me from my film watching and I realize that I probably will never be able to get to watching every film I own. Hope that answers your questions.
