OMG....I am a 60 year old woman and I easily replaced the belt by watching this video. Keep in mind I'm battling cancer and have rheumatoid arthritis, and I still got it done. Not as quickly as the guy in video, but I did it..... THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊
Hint. The belt tensioner lever can be pulled back and held in place by placing the end of it under the small hook on the corner of the motor housing. You can then more easily put the belt in place now that the spring tension is held back and you don't have to work against it while installing the belt. When the belt is in place, just move the tensioner lever toward the front of the dryer to release it. This will reapply the spring tension to the belt. At 3:23 in this video you can see the metal hook just to the left of the white plastic idler roller. This "hook" is not used in this video, but it was a great help to me when I replaced a dryer belt recently.
There is plenty of flex to get the lid out from under the control panel without removing the Torx screws across the top. You don't need to flip it over. This is literally a five minute job. Getting your hands under there to get that pulley is the hardest part.
Just replaced the belt on my dryer for the second time using y’all’s video. You also taught me how to replace the heating element in my vintage (1965) oven. You offer my absolute favorite repair tutorials and save me a TON of money!
Our dryer quit working yesterday and I just googled GE dryer not working, came across this video, decided instead of panicking or calling someone I’d take the few minutes to take it apart and see if the belt was broken, it was. Ordered a new belt and fixed it today. Thank you for this!!!!!!!!
Being a single woman I depend a lot on these kinds of videos to explain how to get a job done...that I KNOW I can do! You got right to it without blathering on endlessly..with clear and concise instructions and angles of the camera so I could SEE what you were doing! Thank you!
Everything else I get it but you made putting that belt on there look so easy. It’s hard for me to get my arm between the drum and that metal plate. The hardest belt replacements that I have to do
I just replaced the belt on my 20+ year old GE Hotpoint. I did not order the belt from these guys, but from Amazon. I was in a hurry and, although I don't have Prime, I have family that does and the belt was here in two days. I had already disassembled the dryer using these instructions, which were handy. The belt arrived, but installation was far from easy. I find it easy to get thrown off by the way the belt is to be installed. I thought I had it right the first time and, after several failed attempts at no drum turn, thought the belt was too loose and proceeded to my local Lowe's, who were supposed to have a generic equivalent. I tried the generic belt too and still seemed too loose. After carefully watching a couple more videos, I finally figured out that I was not threading the belt correctly around the tensioner. This is easy to overlook and I was just about ready to go buy a new dryer, but decided to try threading one more time. It was not easy- I had to do my best to get both hands in there and then really push the tensioner while at the same time threading the belt. After 10 minutes or so of trying to find the right positioning, I got the belt installed, and the dryer works once again. I DID have to remove quite a few screws from the one side so I could push the side enough that I could reach the tensioner better. Because I ended up bending the side slightly, reassembly of the dryer was not fun because it was no longer aligned. So, I don't recommended this unless you absolutely have too, and be prepared that you may have to use either a mallet, or brute strength to get it together again. All in all, a difficult, 4 hour job, but did save me the cost of having to shell out for a new dryer. While in there, I took a peek at the motor, drum, etc, and it seems a simple enough design that I may try repairing it in the future if something goes out again. I am currently out of work and in all honesty, had I been working, I would have bought a new dryer due to lack of time for this job. Maybe other dryers are easier, but this one sure wasn't easy!
I have this same exact model and when I tell you she's beat up with how many times I've had to take her apart and do repairs she looks pretty rough, but thanks to you guys she's running as good as when I first got her many years ago. Thank you!
Glad I found this. Great way to start but impossible to get both hands in, which you need to pull the belt. After a couple hours of struggling and lots of bloody scratches, we finally took the side panel off.
Thank you so much ! I had to figure out why the machine was not working. Once I opened up the top and one side, i spotted pieces of the belt. It was broken. Your part # was right on. I replaced the belt and everything is back to normal. Wife gave me more than a thumbs up ....Thanks again !
Great video. The most useful part for me was at 2:36. My old belt was snapped, so seeing how the new belt is supposed to be threaded to create tension between the motor and the idle arm helped a lot. Thanks a million.
Same here. The best part is, these instructions are so universal, they apply to a bunch of different models (my Dryer is different on the outside, but looks the same on the inside).
Mine was broke and video was a little confusing, I posted a clarification above. Once I figured out your camera was recorded from behind the motor I was able to figured it out. Video still helped.
Great video of how to repair the belt! Used it today and it worked like a charm! The only thing is that with my model of GE Dryer, it was an absolute pain to reset the tensioner pulley on the new belt. Had to do it blind through a space barely big enough for my arm with how it is assembled. Thankfully, I still got it.
If your belt is worn out, there's a good chance that your front "bearings" which are just four slippery teflon strips attached to a plastic arch across the top of the door might also be worn out. There's a kit available online that includes the new belt, the plastic arch piece the bearings attach to, the four teflon bearing strips, and the 3-4' strip of thick felt that the bottom 2/3rds of the drum is held in place against. Once you remove the front assembly, flip it around and if your top two teflon strip "bearings" are worn almost through, consider doing this slightly more ambitious update while you have it apart...or at least replace the worn out bearing strips. Great video though, as always, kudos to APP.
That's an excellent tip! The bearing are an inexpensive part, and while you have the machine apart, it wouldn't hurt to replace them. We have a repair video for the bearing slides here: th-cam.com/video/U41j2xFApe4/w-d-xo.html We also have a video for the front support bearing (the plastic arch they attach to) here: th-cam.com/video/FMODeF_YYw0/w-d-xo.html And we have a video for the felt seal here: th-cam.com/video/vkHWyvte-xA/w-d-xo.html
This video has helped me twice. I’m very thankful. The tensioner was just not going well for me so I paused and took a screenshot to stare at for a minute and orient myself…then got it.
Note that the tensioner can get caught on a sharp edge of the back of the motor and not tension the belt, like mine did. Before reinstalling check the tensioner moves freely and the belt grips the drum.
Well, I give up trying to find where on your website to leave a review. I bought the drive belt from your company (ordered on Friday and received this afternoon on Tuesday) and used your video to install it. I finally have my 15 yr old GE dryer working again like new! Thank you!
Normally you would get an email asking about how your repair went. It can take a couple of days to come to your email. Glad to hear your repair went well! If you need help in the future please let us know.
Just replaced my dryer belt with help from this video. Note that if you have large forearms such as myself, it is safer & easier to simply pull the dryer from the wall & remove the access plate located in the back of the dryer. This allows easy access to the pulley for removing & replacing it. Not sure all dryers have access thru the back, but mine did.
Glad to hear the video helped you out! Thanks for the tip about how you were able to complete the repair, it may help someone else in the same situation.
Yep this video saved the day! Thank you so much. It helps to have someone else holding up the drum while you use both arms from the front (on your knees). Still got pretty bad scratches/indents in my arms from the sharp front metal on this dryer. Spin the drum after you’ve reattached the front panel and make sure the belt sits in the groove of the drum otherwise you got it on the wrong wheel.
Very informative, and while my dryer belt was broken and the site is easy to navigate through, I can't find a way to fix my dryer better. Even changed out the door button and start button. Belt hangs loose so no clue if the hanger isn't positioned right, but can't move it anywhere to 'fix' the position. Wondering if belt is longer than 89in
Great video. Hardest part was figuring out tensioner. Pay attention to the video to see the belt routing. Ordered my belt from them and it arrived next day.
Nice instructions, they saved me some trouble, but on the model I was working on, it was impossible to get my hands around the belt tensioner. How did you fit your arm in there? (And the camera?!)
Actually if you look closely with it disassembled the tensioner will lock into place under the metal for you to get the belt around the motor. The nose of the belt tensioner locks into place. It seems far but I did this and was able to install the belt then release the tensioner. Good luck!
I couldn't figure out how to get the belt on. But I need to get to the thermal sensors. My dryer keeps shutting the heating thing off. I've got a ge/Hotpoint dryer.
Yeah, about that tensioner...the tip can catch the edge of the motor because where the nut is, it sticks way out towards the front., be mindful, everything will seem fine, but the drum will not turn because the tensioner is not fully engaged...can be hard to tell until you test it.. Also, when accessing it front the from, with limited arm space, it is not as easy as the video shows. Also very sharp edges where your arms go in...Still, very helpful, I'm just going to go bleed out now.
Another tip is u will kno it's fully engaged also when the belt is snugged on the drum letting you know it's ready to go👍🏾that arm space no joke it got me pretty good😂
Great video! Seeing how to thread the tensioner pulley saved the day for me. Had to take out the two screws at the bottom of the left side panel to get a little extra arm room (and I don't have huge arms). Couldn't begin to get both arms in there.
Yea.. this video makes it look much easier than it is. It wasn't easy to get the belt around the tensioner nor was it easy to get both arms inside the machine to install it. Def got a few cuts.. but it works.
Its a little tricky to get it aligned as that big tumbler is all in the middle and careful w wires. ALWAYS ALWAYS disconnect power! Took me about an hour to figure it out, mine was pretty dirty dusty, so vacuuming besides the belt replacement. Just make sure the plastic spacers on the door side that touch the outer lip of the tumbler are sitted properly and a small spray lubricant or even small amount of vaseline to help quite things down - on the tumbler lip, NOT on the belt.
Thank You for sharing this !! Just got done fixing mine even though I got a few scratches on my hands and arms It still beat's paying for a repairman or buying a new dryer !!
awesome video! if you're watching though, make sure to take pictures of the wire arrangement and the belt placement. It'll save you a nightmare later trying to put it back together!
Great video. I could do every step EXCEPT for reaching in and getting the belt on the gear and the tension pulley. That space was just too small for my arms. My wife actually could reach in and get that portion done. So now it works perfectly and we saved the money of a pro service call. TY
Hopefully everyone unplug from wall first. I put a vacuum cleaner attachment under drum and then accessed from left and or right side, after UNPLUGGING DRYER FIRST THING.
I've already used this video 3 times because the GE profile that came with my house loves to destroy belts and make awful squeaking noises. Thank you! Almost got it memorized now :P
Great video. I followed the instructions for a new model GE Profile dryer. While particular pieces and parts were different, the overall process was spot on. Now to order the replacement belt. Thanks!
Good video BUT I'm a woman 5'2". No way my arms are reaching around a dryer drum and meeting in the middle (video 3:20). But, with a bungee cord hooked to the tension arm and a roll of blue tape keeping the drum lifted an inch and off of my arm, I was finally able to get the belt in position. Good lord I could never do this for a living!
Very informative!!! I'm 24 never did maitenance of any kind on things like this. Now that I have my own house and things and started to learn how to fix stuff instead of throwing it away and getting a new one like most millennials, I looked up this video, it was short, sweet, and to the point! I had to take off the side panel to put the band on the motor and tension wheel but I got it apart and back together working in less than 30mins! Glad I didn't have to watch a 30min video on how to do it, this 5 minute video was perfect! Thanks for showing me how to fix my dryer! :) ~one happy 24 year old single father of 2 happy boys now that their clothes will be dry :D
Thank you this video was very useful and easy to understand the steps you showed on taking apart the dryer and finding my issue was a broke belt i even order my new belt on the link below it arrived fed ex quickly thank you for your video it was cheaper doing it DIY than calling a repair man out and paying a arm and leg for them to do it.
The coin Op Dryer that I was fixing is a much older Model: DDC4400AELAD SN: 00039G. No way to get the belt onto the motor pulley from the front. Spent 20 minutes trying. So I put the belt around the drum loose first and reassembled. Then I removed the rear vent panel to put the belt on the motor pulley and to position the tensioner. This belt is tight to start with so don't waste your time forcing your hands in through the front. Removing the rear panel gives you easy access and will save your hands. Only takes a few minutes extra.
I have been a Appliance service technician for almost 30 years lately the new belts dont seam long enough for the ge hotpoint dryer any one else having this issue
For me the belt have been way too long, even when I buy them for the exacta model, is just insane, and the long has to be 89.5 so I buy it the same size, and it was from the manufacturer,
I took it apart with my father. The belt is broken but the motor won't turn on, could the motor be bad or is it a safety feature that disables the motor when there is no tension? Edit: its a different model, but this question should still apply to my scenario. thanks.
I followed everything, put it all back together, and when I turn it on, it spins for a second or two and immediately shuts off. If I open the door and push the little door switch I can hold the on button and watch the dryer spin, I can feel it heating up, but as soon as I let go of the on switch it shuts off. Any ideas? Edit: Fixed it. I had the symptoms of a bad interlock switch. It turns out when I installed the new belt, I must have pulled up on the belt tensioner and it pulled up out of place. The belt tensioner has that black metal rod that you pull on. The bottom of the rod is supposed to sit down in a crevice on the side of the dryer and it rests against the black interlocking switch. Once I put it in place it was much harder to put the belt on which was a good thing. Put it all back together it runs smooth and quiet again.
What these videos ALWAYS do is gloss over the hardest part. In this case, at about 3:00 minutes it shows - from an angle you could not possibly see - how the belt goes on the drive pulley and tensioner. NOR does it mention you will be installing it on the pulley and tensioner BLIND. You cannot see what you are doing. But ok, realize that. Visualize what you are feeling for, and then do it. My first try I didn’t get the belt correctly on the drive pulley and, when it started squealing as it tried it, I had to take the front panel off and redo the loop onto the drive pulley. Works great. Part cost $42. Saved $200 labor for a tech to do it AND the tech was a 2 week wait appointment.Otherwise, good video with simple, no blather instructions.
Yeah, the reverse angle made it challenging to conceptualize the specific way in which I was incorrectly seating the belt tensioner. Thank you for the additional info!
This was great vid! I need to replace my broken belt but I was approaching it from all the wrong angles. Thanks for the very simple How-to vid. Saves me a lot of trial and error!
The belt that came on the dryer had 3 ribs the replacement I ordered came with 4 will it still work? It feels as if there's enough space and ribs on the pulley or whatever....
Way past My original had 3 ribs. The local appliance store quoted me 40.00 for belt. I wnt to lowes and bought I believe it was like 88 inch belt but not the 90 something inch belt. Lowes was only 5 dollars and had 4 ribs, I installed it and it's working, prior to this it had a 3 rib belt.
The video "How to diagnose / fix GE Dryer that runs but doesnt heat Easy fix (solved)" shows how to temporarily hook the belt tensioner on a bracket (at about six minutes into the video). You can do this easily when the drum is out of the way. Once the drum was back in place with the belt on it I laid down on my right side in front of the dryer and propped up the drum with my right hand and then reached in the lower left corner underneath the drum with my left arm. Then put the belt around the motor pulley and put it on the tensioner, then unhook the tensioner rod. Triple check that everything is in it's proper position by feeling with your fingers. It's a pretty easy thing to do if you know these tricks.
I have the same dryer on vid and engaging the tensioner was definitely not as easy as shown on this video. There's simply not enough room for both arms to get inside. Saw another vid where the drum was removed, and then holding the tensioner in place with a hinge on the motor housing that makes it easier to run the belt around after.
Getting to that belt and replacing it can be difficult without removing the drum. It is possible to repair with the drum in or out, whichever is easiest for you.
It is a great video that helped me out a lot . You kept it simple and right on. wish I had more room for the tensioner too . A little blood never scared someone trying to do there own repairs . thank you guys
Well on my GE dryer there is NO HUMANS ARMS small enough to get one arm in there to hook the belt on the pulley much less TWO arms as shown in the video. How about saying you took the side off of the dryer to film and that it is NOT nearly as easy as your video shows. Ended up having to use a 1 x 1 inch thick yard stick to push the pulley over far enough for my ONE arm on the right side to reach it. Afterwards I went ahead and put Band-Aids on everything I had cut trying to get the belt on. Honesty in DYI repairs is important. Disclose what your really doing in the video. The simpler is Not always better if its not Real Life as people would rather see the actual process they are fixing to go through...Is it fixed...Yes but only from PARTS of the video shown and having to figure out the rest on my on. .
Not sure if I missed but I didn't see you put the tensioner back in place. I was watching the video just to see how you did it but didn't see that part
Was a little confusing your camera angle was in the back. Clarification belt around ribs down and over tumbler then under motor gear or pulley then push the idler pulley which is on far left, push it to the right and route over it and since it naturally wants to go to the left that creates the tension. Smooth side runs over the smooth idler pulley. ( belt runs under motor pulley and over the idler, takes a little bit of force to pull the idler towards the right side) 1 unplug dryer, belt ribs face down belt runs over the tumbler and under the motor pulley 2 the idle is naturally on the left side if belt breaks, then pull idler towards the right (right and down towards motor) then put belt on left side of pulley smooth side to idler pulley.

Fabulous, this is my exact dryer. I pulled the whole drum out to clean everything but now I see how to get the new belt on which is exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Regarding the instructions @ 2:35: Wrong, at least on older dryers. The tensioner and motor pulley must be accessed from the rear of the machine. There's insufficient clearance around the drum to reach these without flaying the skin off your arm.
Man! And I always thought you just chunked the old dryer out the back door and went to the easy finance appliance store and got a new one. I'm going to go get a new belt right now. And a twenty torques head screw driver of course.
Might as well chunk the old dryer out the back door - these GE dryers are pieces of crap - Note the crappy design that uses the fan to create negative pressure to suck air through the heating elements - a bad door seal or missing felt around the front of the drum will cause air to be sucked in, resulting in reduced airflow through the heating elements which reduces efficiency and increases risk of fire! Also, the crappy lint tray in the front does nothing to trap lint from getting into the fan - note all the lint in the fan when you take it apart! The Whirlpool/maytag design is superior - the fan is used to push air through the heating elements and the top mounted lint filter has a much better tight seal far superior design!
Oh i jist did it and its a pain in the butt..no room for my big handsand seems like now the drum is hard to turn i did replace the drum felt im sure its got to ware in i got a new dryer my old one will be a back up i got a new maytag and the door is so hard to open and close
I'm in the middle of this and found it impossible to wind the belt around the motor pully and tensioner with just one hand AND not being able to see anything because my one arm was stuffed in the only opening. I figured I need to take the side panel off. Thanks to one of the commenters for confirming. Back to the job... EDIT: Heck I give up. Tried to remove the side panel but it wouldn't budge. This is not an easy job at all. Appliance Repairman is on his way. Oh well...at least I tried.
Great video! Watched and followed along with the video, fix the dryer in only a few minutes. Save lots of money on a repair person or a replacement. Thanks again!
simple to do, but a pain when trying to thread the belt around the motor shaft and idler pulley. kind of working in the dark when you can't see what you are doing.... such a pain!
If you need additional help with the repair outside of what's demonstrated in the video, you can give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 or you can chat us at our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/. We’re here to help 7 days a week.
video at the 3:12 point is clearly with the left side panel off. Taking that panel off makes getting the tensioner on a breeze. This video makes it look like you can fit two arms in around the drum and get it on. Not a chance. I took off the left side panel for access. Of course not until a few minutes of frustration with nothing fitting with my arms in there.
For my GE dryer (DDE7109V) belt replacement, it's easier if you also REMOVE LOWEST PLATE FROM REAR OF DRYER. You will be able to access the pulleys much easier.
@@appliancepartspros I believe that's what made your video confusing bc you were recording from the back behind the motor. ISN'T the capacitor on the back side too (which holds power even while unplugged from wall )??
Thanks for the video! Helped save so much money. And being a female you aren't taught these things so it was nice you getting right to the point! Good job!
Great tutorial and excellent speed/service ordering direct from you. I would highly recommend Appliance Parts Pros. I do agree with a previous comment though... there is way more swearing involved on the DIY side.
ok. so i have a dryer when i press the dryer start button it makes a humming noise, sometimes it starts up and sometime it dont. and when it does start to working it makes a squealing noise. is that the belt need changing, motor, etc.
Without knowing what you have, I would suggest posting the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/
This is a nice video that I used around 2 years ago to replace the same belt, but they don’t make clear how to move the pulley to be able to attach the belt correctly and that is difficult. Otherwise good video. I have to replace the belt again.
Great instructions! Thank you! I followed directions and vacuumed out all the lint that was in the hose, vent and inner casing of dryer while I was in there. Now the drum is turning without any bad sounds and seems to be totally repaired. BUT within a minute, there was a bad smell. I turned it off and am afraid to use it. Is this somewhat normal after putting on a new belt?
It’s a year later, and I probably won’t see a reply to this, but depending on what the odor smelled like, it might ha e been some stray lint burning off that made its way to the burner area, like mine did. It went away after a little while.
It's possible. We'd be happy to help you confirm that diagnosis before you purchase the part, though. We offer free technical advice and diagnosis 7 days a week. Thank You ... with no belt, the tension pully "flexes back" to around 12 o'clock position, needs to be around 3 o'clock to have enough slack in belt to place around motor pulley. Should have used Francis Flynn process. Otherwise, it takes a good bit of (rotation) torque, with one hand, to get enough slack to place around motor pulley.
This is the belt that's being replaced in the video www.appliancepartspros.com/ge-dryer-drum-drive-we12m29-ap4324040.html You'll need to confirm that this is the correct part for your appliance using your dryer's model number, which you can locate using this tool on our website: www.appliancepartspros.com/modelnumber_locator.aspx
THANK YOU!! I just had to replace my belt. I refuse to pay the high service call fees because I live far from town. My husband is out of town, so I was on my own. Your video was perfect.
for some reason they welded the side pieces of my dryer so i ripped it off just to squeeze my hand thru to the belt. Was BS, and then i just drilled screws in where i cut off the tiny welds WHERE screws shouldve been anyways
OMG....I am a 60 year old woman and I easily replaced the belt by watching this video. Keep in mind I'm battling cancer and have rheumatoid arthritis, and I still got it done. Not as quickly as the guy in video, but I did it..... THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊
Glad you were able to complete your repair. If we can help in the future please let us know!
Thank you for this!
Wish I'd read the comments before replacing the belt... I'll remember if or when I do it again. Thank you!
This hint was a tremendous help. Thank you good sir!
There is plenty of flex to get the lid out from under the control panel without removing the Torx screws across the top. You don't need to flip it over. This is literally a five minute job. Getting your hands under there to get that pulley is the hardest part.

I’ve used this video twice in the past few years to replace dryer belts and it has been super helpful. Thank you for making this
You are very welcome.
Our dryer quit working yesterday and I just googled GE dryer not working, came across this video, decided instead of panicking or calling someone I’d take the few minutes to take it apart and see if the belt was broken, it was. Ordered a new belt and fixed it today. Thank you for this!!!!!!!!

Me too!! I used utube for everything!!!💖💖💖💖💖 just finished putting the dryer belt on!!!!😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
About time, girl!
Lynn amen. I hate those videos where the person is the star instead of the job to be done.
Same!!
Thank you!
My arm got stuck when doing the tensioner. It was so awesome.
Glad I found this. Great way to start but impossible to get both hands in, which you need to pull the belt. After a couple hours of struggling and lots of bloody scratches, we finally took the side panel off.
Wish I would have done this. My arms would have suffered a lot less
+Joseph Magdalena Glad the video helped you get the belt routed through the pulleys.
@@appliancepartspros -do the belts stretch out or does the pulley tension get loose overtime?
Great video of how to repair the belt! Used it today and it worked like a charm! The only thing is that with my model of GE Dryer, it was an absolute pain to reset the tensioner pulley on the new belt. Had to do it blind through a space barely big enough for my arm with how it is assembled. Thankfully, I still got it.
Thank you.........! 9 years later and your video still helping...!
We have a repair video for the bearing slides here: th-cam.com/video/U41j2xFApe4/w-d-xo.html
We also have a video for the front support bearing (the plastic arch they attach to) here: th-cam.com/video/FMODeF_YYw0/w-d-xo.html
And we have a video for the felt seal here: th-cam.com/video/vkHWyvte-xA/w-d-xo.html

You're welcome!
Wondering if belt is longer than 89in
That shot of the belt tensioner at 2:33 saved the day. Thanks for this video. 👍
Great video. Hardest part was figuring out tensioner. Pay attention to the video to see the belt routing. Ordered my belt from them and it arrived next day.
Thank you! Glad you were able to fix your issue! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
Nice instructions, they saved me some trouble, but on the model I was working on, it was impossible to get my hands around the belt tensioner. How did you fit your arm in there? (And the camera?!)
He obviously has the sides off for videoing purposes but treats it as if you just wanted to take off the front.
Actually if you look closely with it disassembled the tensioner will lock into place under the metal for you to get the belt around the motor. The nose of the belt tensioner locks into place. It seems far but I did this and was able to install the belt then release the tensioner. Good luck!
Had to replace a broken belt for the first time ever today. This video helped a lot and helped me realize how easy it was to do
Sure saves alot of money on buying a new dryer that's for sure
I cut my arm on very sharp sheet metal and really struggled to get the belt over the tension wheel. Beware. Great video. Thanks
Yea.. this video makes it look much easier than it is. It wasn't easy to get the belt around the tensioner nor was it easy to get both arms inside the machine to install it. Def got a few cuts.. but it works.
I just fixed my GE, total cost was $8 for the belt and one 3 inch cut on my arm. Wear long sleeves and gloves for the job
That's excellent advice! There are a lot of sharp edges inside appliances.
Ditto on the cut and GE Dryer. Lowes had a 4 rib belt for 5.00 and appliance part store quoted me 40 dollars, so Lowes got my money.
That is a great tip! Thank you!
That's why there are two of you. :)
I've already used this video 3 times because the GE profile that came with my house loves to destroy belts and make awful squeaking noises. Thank you! Almost got it memorized now :P
You're welcome!
Great video. I followed the instructions for a new model GE Profile dryer. While particular pieces and parts were different, the overall process was spot on. Now to order the replacement belt. Thanks!
You're welcome!
@@appliancepartspros Sir i cant put the belt back on, its like the belt is kibd of small, but is tge same one
do u have to realign the drum or does that happen when u put front panel back on
Good video BUT I'm a woman 5'2".
Yep my dryer quit turning this morning. Gets heat but no turning. So I hope this is what is going on. Time to investigate.
Thanks so much.
This video was a life saver. My belt snapped and this video made it so much easier. Thank you very much
Glad to be able to help with the repair!
The coin Op Dryer that I was fixing is a much older Model: DDC4400AELAD
SN: 00039G.
For me the belt have been way too long, even when I buy them for the exacta model, is just insane, and the long has to be 89.5 so I buy it the same size, and it was from the manufacturer,
How do you actually release the belt!
Very helpful video. 28.00 and about an hour of my time to resolve the problem. Thanks for your help.
My belt does not fit over the pulley nearly as easily as the one in the video. Still fighting it 10 minutes later...
I took it apart with my father. The belt is broken but the motor won't turn on, could the motor be bad or is it a safety feature that disables the motor when there is no tension?
Edit: its a different model, but this question should still apply to my scenario. thanks.
This video saved me $175 and the instructions were so exact and easy.
Glad we could help!
Will this fix a loud buzzing noise when running? It’s really loud when it’s drying clothes it’s annoying and I’m assuming this is my problem?
Does the noise go away after awhile or does it do it during the whole cycle? Where is the noise coming from can you tell?
If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know. We will be more than happy to assist you.
Glad you were able to get the belt changed!
The belt that came on the dryer had 3 ribs the replacement I ordered came with 4 will it still work? It feels as if there's enough space and ribs on the pulley or whatever....
As long as it is the right part according to your model number. They do change the number of ribs occasionally.
Great vid, very helpful. Needs more swearing though.
Happy to help! We edit all the swears out. 😉😂
lol and more mangled panels spilled blood too!
You ain't lying
Lol
I swear way to much today but great video
Glad you were able to do your repair that way. Thank you for the pointers!
Very well done. I was dreading having to replace the dryer belt on my Mothers dryer. I now have the answer thanks to this video.
S Ross Hope you were able to get the belt changed!
The simpler is Not always better if its not Real Life as people would rather see the actual process they are fixing to go through...Is it fixed...Yes but only from PARTS of the video shown and having to figure out the rest on my on. .
Your not trying to hard enough it was easy and I'm 300lb and one leg and missing a middle finger on right arm my good arm. Cry😢
Same impossible to get one arm and hand in, to place the belt on correctly.
@Johnny-ur2st 275Lbs, and I can only get in as far as my elbow. I can not get past. I already sliced up both arms trying. so I call bullshet
Not sure if I missed but I didn't see you put the tensioner back in place. I was watching the video just to see how you did it but didn't see that part
At 3:13 in the video we show routing the belt through the pulleys. Hope the video helped you out!
Thank you. Be prepared to shed some blood and sweat attempting this
this video saved me the cost of a new dryer! thank you
Glad the video helped you get the dryer fixed!
Thank you for the easy tutorial. It saved me a lot of money and time while I was in a pinch. My dryer is as good as new again!
What size belt did you use, 27 or 29?
Was a little confusing your camera angle was in the back. Clarification belt around ribs down and over tumbler then under motor gear or pulley then push the idler pulley which is on far left, push it to the right and route over it and since it naturally wants to go to the left that creates the tension. Smooth side runs over the smooth idler pulley. ( belt runs under motor pulley and over the idler, takes a little bit of force to pull the idler towards the right side)
1 unplug dryer, belt ribs face down belt runs over the tumbler and under the motor pulley
2 the idle is naturally on the left side if belt breaks, then pull idler towards the right (right and down towards motor) then put belt on left side of pulley smooth side to idler pulley.
I fix my dryer today because of this video. Ty so much!
So I did this and now my Drum is rubbing against the motor mount and I don’t know why
So I took my belt off and it looks fine. I replaced it with a new one. If my dryer is still squealing what should I do now. Please help!

My new belt is on the exact same way, dryer stays on now BUT barely spins. HELP!
Great video. Helped me replace my dryer’s belt so easily. Big time money saver

Oh i jist did it and its a pain in the butt..no room for my big handsand seems like now the drum is hard to turn i did replace the drum felt im sure its got to ware in i got a new dryer my old one will be a back up i got a new maytag and the door is so hard to open and close

@@appliancepartspros how can i fix my door on my new maytag it's hard to open and cose
Oh well...at least I tried.

simple to do, but a pain when trying to thread the belt around the motor shaft and idler pulley. kind of working in the dark when you can't see what you are doing.... such a pain!
Please cant i use the same belt to gas and eléctric, please
Can you please do a video on how to take off the back panel bc I cannot get this belt on to save my life.

I posted a clarification, hope you have the right size belt.
video at the 3:12 point is clearly with the left side panel off.
+Fred Gespers You are correct, the older dryers do come apart differently!

This is a nice video that I used around 2 years ago to replace the same belt, but they don’t make clear how to move the pulley to be able to attach the belt correctly and that is difficult. Otherwise good video. I have to replace the belt again.

Great video, super helpful... I only wish it was as easy as yall made it look! Thanks.
Glad the video helped you out!
Wonderful video! Video presentation and instructions were top notch. Thank you for saving me the pain of buying a new dryer!!
You're welcome!
So if i replace my belt will my dryer stop sqeaking???

Thank You ... with no belt, the tension pully "flexes back" to around 12 o'clock position, needs to be around 3 o'clock to have enough slack in belt to place around motor pulley. Should have used Francis Flynn process. Otherwise, it takes a good bit of (rotation) torque, with one hand, to get enough slack to place around motor pulley.
Please show us how to do this from the view you see when doing the work
very helpful video thanks.

for some reason they welded the side pieces of my dryer so i ripped it off just to squeeze my hand thru to the belt. Was BS, and then i just drilled screws in where i cut off the tiny welds WHERE screws shouldve been anyways
Thanks for saving me so much money teaching me to do this myself!
