- Since stumbling across “A Ghost Story” for the first time a few months ago, I have not been able to get the film out of my head. The movie is methodic and delicate in the way it conveys themes of death, love, time, sentimentality, and many others. The entire spectrum of life’s intricacies is delicately yet powerfully displayed; at times making you laugh, and more often making you cry. Many ideas are put forth - both explicitly by the supporting characters, and implicitly through projecting our own life experiences - and as a viewer we can lean into what appeals and ponder the things that don’t.
In this video, I take a deeper dive into the film chronologically and share some of my insights on interpreting the meaning and various filmmaking techniques. “A Ghost Story” is a film that has something for everyone, and if you enjoyed this video, I encourage you to check out the film. Before that, be sure to like this video and subscribe to see more in the future. Thank you.

A24 single handedly has made movies so much better they're so good at finding these directors, writes, and cinematographers. This movie was a piece of philosophical art!
U5d54u6d5e75e5ryyfy5ru6f6778
And now they are going to stop focusing on movies like this. They want to start making normal, blockbuster, crap like all the other companies. Really sucks.
@@derekg5674No??? They thing about A24 is how much freedom they gave to the director. Plus the blockbuster (which you prob thinks Civil War) are from Alex Garland, that person literally loyal to A24. Plus, he’s also a critically acclaimed director. It’s not like A24 gonna suddenly gave Michael Bay permission to use their money to make movies.
I believe that the note says “My treasure yours” - from a passage she read when the book fell from the shelf earlier.
One of my favourite films 💙
But, and forgive me for not being very bright, what does that mean? lol
The scene where he’s talking to the other ghost is what always comes to mind when I think about this movie. Poof.
When the ghost said "I don't remember", this was one of the saddest moments in cinema for me
That scene is a very sad one when the other ghost answers he doesn’t remember who he’s waiting for.
Fun fact! David Lowery himself played the other ghost!
@@thmooove yeah i think I have heard that
The movie made me feel, like all my worries and fleeing thoughts were laid in front of me and I am being asked how long after the natural course of these emotions are you going to carry them? Cried throughout the whole movie!
This is my kind of movie but not probably 98% of others. Beautiful.
what this a compliment to the movie, or rather an attempting touting of one's superior tastes? Way to elevate yourself while demeaning precisely 98% "other." You know who else thought in terms of "other?" The KKK and 1the rising Nazi party of 1938 Germany to name two. Way to miss the pint, CrueLoaf.

I stumbled across this film one night while home alone. I loved it, but I don’t think I could ever explain to someone why they should watch it other than if you stumble across it - watch it, and preferably alone with no interruptions.
Damn, the youtube algorithm seems to have a sense of when I’m having an existential crisis to show me this. I watched this film about four times the year it came out. Its style, photography and themes really drew me in; but there was something particularly special about the temporal jumps in fixed spaces that C.’s ghost experiences, the notion of being in the exact same place your house is in but centuries in the future - or the past. As a kid it was a game I’d play in my head to lull myself to sleep, fantasizing about the vast sparesely unpopulated expanse of the central Argentine plain where my childhood home sat. How it would look like, whether I’d be able to see a small band of Pampa or Guarani peoples walk by. Especially in winter nights it was soothing yet also somewhat terrifying to play in my head with the notion time while keeping that of space fixed.
Anyway excellent script and editing, great work man. Hope your channel continues growing
Means a lot man, I appreciate the comment.
Time is fleeting and waits for no one, time fades everything
Finally watched this movie tonight. Absolute masterpiece.
I’ve thought about this movie for years and always felt like there was something I loved but something I was missing. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
I was so moved by this film. I found it to be so tragic my heart broke both for "C" and the other ghost in the house next door I actually teared up.. Remarkable story telling.
Just stumbled across this film last night.
Single handedly the most beautiful piece of art I've seen in a long time. Top 10
It’s a film you won’t forget, or at least I never will
While I'm not a believer in any afterlife. I often found myself waiting for it to exist, as it might bring comfort, relief and justice for so many people. Yet, why aren't we able to find that when we are alive?
It might sound pessimistic, but I think that's what I have learned, to try to accomplish that, at least with the people that lives around me, not just the ones I know and love but also the lady that walks her dog early in the morning or the dude that sells bread outside the subway.
Some people say that we live in hell, that this is THE bad place. And for some, it is. But we have in our hands the tools to make it better, and when our time comes, go with our hearts fulfilled. Doing what we could. And leaving our mark instead of longing for a conclusion like those poor ghosts.
Great video pal! Keep up the nice work :)
I really appreciate that comment. Glad that we can both find value in these topics and grow despite our differing perspectives.
@@sder totally, it's the best way to share perspectives :)
This film is a brilliant art piece, free to interpret. Great review! Respect
That was quite the analysis. I think i was in tears the entire time.
Excellent.
I really appreciate that.
Note: "he loved me"
thought provoking
I can't remember if she wrote the note before he passed?
Thanks for illuminating the themes of the film so beautifully. Excellent analysis!
Thanks man, I appreciate your work!
Beautiful cinematography
Excellent analysis! Another great video keep ‘em up
Im glad i found your content, keep up the great work
Thanks, will do!
I really love your videos, you're very sincere and real and I love that. I feel like we'd be good friends in real life lol. Keep it up mate :) God bless ✌️
Wow, really well done. You do this film great justice. When my wife and I watched it around the time of release, I knew it was special. My wife was unimpressed, and I tried my best to explain to her just how clever this film is in the way it manipulates the viewer to understand the varied nature of time and how that impacts the way we reconcile our limited existence. You got all that and then some. I'll subscribe for that!
Means a lot, thanks.
One of my favorite movies. Beautiful story.
Such a Great breakdown!! I want moooore

Certainly felt something - your best work.

It's time to move on, I'll always love you.
This is how a movie analysis is done…. Finally. Subscribed.
That means a lot 🤝
amazing video.

Hey Soder, I really like your content, hoping you'll make some more vids soon! Also, I really respect how you bring in the topics of God and spirituality into you video essays. Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate that. My next video will be out in a few weeks. It’s taking longer than expected due to college, but thanks for the support!
The high rise apartment M looks at online looks eerily similar to the building C looks down from on the zoom out shot, just inverted.
It's a masterpiece.its happen everyone life
Absolutely amazing analysis. I love your perspective and agree with God being the only real solution against nihilism. Trying to understand one's purpose and the fighting the same struggles and cycles through time is definitely a universal and difficult journey. Watching this right after The Curious Case of Benjamin Button also made this movie hit me differently in a unique way. Given our similar taste in movies and belief in God and especially your unique perspective on films this channel has quickly become my favorite one discussing movies. This probably sounds weird but I would love to connect on discord or something.
Would also love an analysis on It's a Wonderful Life.
I really appreciate the comment, it means a lot especially coming from someone with shared perspectives. Dropped a follow on letterboxd 🤝
@@sderThanks bro. Looking forward to ur future vids!
This was absolutely beautiful. Wow.. well done. I seriously want you to talk about me when I am gone. When I become nothing but a story. Bc in the end, that's all we do become. Stories. This is such an amazing and mind-blowing movie. Slow, but beautiful. Please watch if anyone hasn't watched it. It will make you cry and also just think. I believe in God, but I also wonder what is out there?
Great video
Thank you!
This movie wasn't particularly good, but it made me think deeply about death for a long time afterwards
Amazing title and thumbnail! Great watch
Thanks so much!
Nice compliment!

A beautiful essay on a stunning movie. One of my faves. Thank you for this ❤
❤❤❤
Nice video
I appreciate it
banger, and i havent even watched it yet
makin me blush
🤭🤭
Great video. I understand this wasn't what you were making about the whole video, but I will say I would have such an easier time with the idea of a deity like God being a surrogate father for our fear of not existing anymore if it wasn't for what people do with it while they are alive here on Earth. We have so many die in the name of an ever-loving Lord not to mention people who just make others lives terrible for their depiction of what they think the Bible means. All we have is time and each other, but the way we treat each other over an idea that we don't just dissipate when we die is so sad.
WHERE can i find the full movie? thank you so much
Right now it is streaming on max
Please do a video on cloud atlas!
Added it to my watchlist!
Why doesn’t nobody talk about the past girl who wrote a note and left it under the stone? What does that mean? Is there anything related to the ghost wife? And in multiple scenes there is a light of rainbow what does that mean? Please anybody explain me this.
She was the wife and he was her father in that previous life. He was attached to the property because of that life as pioneers. Remember she wanted to move but he didnt?
@@juliecopelandbarrows2971 and what about that rainbow light in the wall?
I love this movie is really something special and unique.

hello
good evening
Hi
अंत ही आरम्भ है , अद्वैत ; काल द्वैत की संपत्ति है , महाकाल अद्वैत है।
Not gonna lie, the pie scene was annoying. Thank God I could skip ahead.
It was very uncomfortable to sit through
@sder I bet. If you start to lose your audience, because they are so incredibly bored, then no matter how artistic you claim it to be, doesn't matter. Because if you lose them, you lose them.
This movie was boring, nuff said.
Agree with the two ghosts being the best scene
