    In the realm of investing, a defensive strategy is paramount for stability and resilience in uncertain economic times which can be found in goods and services that have consistent demand in categories such as utilities, healthcare, education, personal care, household goods, and telecommunications. In this video, I discuss two primary strategies when investing in defensive stocks or building a defensive portfolio -- a) an active style of stock picking and b) a passive way of investing
    Specific to passively managed approach, the Nifty Non-Cyclical Consumer Index is a powerful portfolio that has often outperformed the broader market indices like the Nifty 50 and Nifty 500, and that too with lower volatility. I also put forth in this video a combined strategy i.e. attacking via the Nifty 50 and defending via the Nifty Non-Cyclical Consumer Index to show how this combination can offer spectacular returns over the long term - 19.9% post tax returns over 17 years

    I was looking at the cyclical table of NCCI and Nifty 50 and was wondering if splitting the Rs 1 lakh into 2 equal parts each and bulk investing in both indices at start of the year could be another way to earn good + stable returns

    • @shankarnath

      Thank you Saurabh, I am glad you liked my work.
      With re: the language of delivery, I chose English because of the chances of success it offered. Look at it this way -- for every 1 Indian channel in English, there are 10 Hindi channels. So Hindi is more competitive. Secondly, the top two channels in finance segment are Rachana Ranada and Pranjal Kamra. Rachana is an English channel which told me that there are enough people watching a top English channel as there are with a top Hindi channel.
      Today you have come on my channel because my decision to back English worked for me. It's possible that had I chosen Hindi, the channel might not have succeeded. Decision making is not as easy as it seems .. one has to look at multiple angles esp. when someone does this fulltime. If I start a Hindi channel in the future, that will also be a clearly thought out path.

      2. As informed in the video, Groww is coming up with an NFO on this soon. Pls do a Google search for specifics

    since you mentioned tickertape. Mr.Shankar nath can you help us understand , how does the indicator in tickertape work? Any particular query or formula to list all the stocks based on query. The indicators are quite helpful, but not sure how to filter all stocks under the category. For eg, not over bought , overpriced .

    • @shankarnath
      @shankarnath  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am very sorry, I don't use tickertape much so I'm not well-versed with the query builder there. I'm more of a screener.in user

    • @FifthArima
      @FifthArima หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok, but can you provide equivalent screener query that is a near or close resultant of the Tickertape indicator . I mean it helps in decoding on what technicals it works and will help the common people in understand. We will bookmark the query and refer it over the time. Just a kind request . BTW thanks for responding since youtubers are too busy to respond.

      @@FifthArima I'll try but request your patience as I'll have to learn a completely new platform here
      I've been a creator and a viewer .. so I know the phrase "too buzy to respond" is not warranted. Come to think of it, it's the viewer/commenter who is being extremely selfish. Why, you might ask? The creator GAVE a piece of content (selfless) while the commenter is ASKING for more (selfish). Can you see what I'm coming at? It's easy to draw inferences based on little knowledge or skewed expectation but the moment one actively participates in the other side -- viewpoints start changing
      Sharing from my schedule. Everyday I receive over 20 suggestions a day, 8 critical evaluation (also called by the sender as "feedback"), 2 abusive messages and 5 "review my portfolio" emails. Potentially I am looking at 35 people who are at the cusp of saying "this guy is too buzy to respond" or similar (more aggressive) phrases
      Why am I saying all this? It's because the best of creators & viewers are a hopeful lot. Like I'm hopeful that I'll come across someone who is not in ASK-mode but can share something nice & useful (maybe a story from his life, a connection, a book etc.). I'm happy to say there are 14-15 individuals who started off as viewers and now I enjoy connecting with them. A few of them have become a sounding board for ideas, we meet over coffee & pleasantly, we don't talk investing much. The goal of these discussions is almost always on how one can lead a better, a more purposeful life.
      Long message .. oops! If you have reached till here, then well done! If not, then also well done! :)

    Hi Shankar, Would it make sense to have an equal allocation in both the NIFTY50 and NCC ? Rather than switching between the 2?

      Hello, it seems to be an actively managed fund although it is strange that the scheme name matched the index name. You might want to recheck my view & find more specifics here: www.hdfcfund.com/digitalfactsheets/2024-january/innerpages/Non-Cyclical%20Consumer%20Fund.html and files.hdfcfund.com/s3fs-public/Others/2023-06/NFO%20Presentation%20-%20HDFC%20Non-Cyclical%20Consumer%20Fund_0.pdf
