  • This is my previously unreleased footage from the notorious Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix in Imola May 1, 1994, as seen and filmed as a spectator to the event. w/ Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger.
    More from Imola goo.gl/NDLUcP
    0:36 Roland Ratzenberger's last lap.
    1:35 Air Ambulance.
    1:40 Roland Ratzenberger's car.
3:32 Ayrton Senna in pit lane before race, last pictures of Ayrton Senna alive.
    7:28 Start.
    13:20 Restart.
Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna died on 1 May 1994, as a result of his car crashing into a concrete barrier while he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy. The previous day, Roland Ratzenberger died when his car crashed during qualification for the race. His and Senna's accidents were the worst of several accidents that took place that weekend and were the first fatal accidents to occur during a Formula One race in twelve years.
The 1994 San Marino Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 1 May 1994 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, located in Imola, Italy. It was the third race of the 1994 Formula One season.
Roland Ratzenberger died during qualifying for the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
This was also Michael Schumacher’s first victory in formula 1.

There was something rather strange about that fateful weekend. If you look up the footage of Barrichello's massive accident in practice that weekend, he lay motionless in the cockpit. All medics working on him and after some time, he was put in an ambulance to hospital. He was injured and couldn't make the race.
Then Raztenberger hit the wall hard in practice, same situation. he lay motionless and all the medics working on him while still in the wrecked car. Then they eventually got him out of the wreckage an into an ambulance and eventually pronounce dead.
Right at the start on race day, one car which was stalled was hit by another from behind and if you look carefully at the footage, you can see 2 tyres and some debris flying high over the fence and injuring 2 spectators and I believe a policeman as well on the other side.
Race restarted and on lap 7 Senna hit the wall at Tamburello corner. Lots of medics work on him while motionless in the car and then is taken out and to hospital by helicopter. He was already brain dead and later he died.
The race was restarted again, then during Michele Alboreto's pit stop, as he accelerates out, the tyres make contact and injures 2 mechanics, both taken to hospital. Too many unfortunate things happened that weekend. To me it's rather sinister and a very strange series of bad events happening around one F1 race event.

This video actually made me cry. I adore Ayrton Senna and would say I'm a super fan, but seeing this raw footage of his last weekend and that too of Roland really hit hard. Every other clip of Imola in 1994 makes it seem like fiction, almost stylised in every documentary or news clip I've ever watched. This video shows they're all just human, from the spectators to the drivers, and everyone was there to have a good time. Everyone is equal in death, regardless of fame or luck in life. I hope this doesn't sound too depressing to read as a comment, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts. Thank you for sharing this video after all these years.

Words cannot simply describe the feelings watching this video, so many mixed emotions, just watching Roland Ratzenberger enter what would be his last ever seconds in a formula 1 car, its odd to think he would of been thinking about what gear he needed to be in and looking towards turn 1 mentally preparing himself to haul himself up the grid not whether he'd even make it back to the line safely. As many have said whilst recording this no one knew the full weight of it, what it would become and how it would echo through the ages, i wasnt alive when any of this occured so i can never experience hearing the news for the first time, its videos like this that give us a reminder of how dangerous this job is.
    thank you for uploading this
    rest in piece Ayrton
    rest in piece Roland
both will forever be remembered like many others for risking their lives for our entertainment...

Eu estava na casa do me primo. Triste dia...

one of the best footage of the most in"famous" grand prix in history.. Thanks a million for sharing it. It is simply invaluable. I am amazed to see the detail as well. So many famous names here, esp Lauda, Prost and Todt speaking to each other. Sad to see Berger trying hard to get as much info as possible after the crash.

Thomas Grønvold, Thank you for bringing new images of Ayrton. For us Brazilians, it is considered a myth, a differentiated person, which is used as an example for many people to this day. Watching this GP again brings us a mix of longing and sadness, but death is part of it. This video is precious and I, like thousands of Brazilians who were thrilled to see you, can only thank you. Thank you

Wow. I was only 5, but I remember everything. I was already a big fan of Senna, just like every brazilian kid down here. We were crazy about him, he was our Ronaldinho at that time, or more. I used to watch the races with my dad at home and this day we were all at my uncle's house, the whole family, cousins, brothers, etc. I remember the feeling when Galvão Bueno told about the crash live on TV, and the worried look in my relatives' eyes. Our country never got over it, until now. It was so sad and unbelievable. Thank you for uploading this. Gonna show my dad!

This film is golden for the right reasons (Great era of F1, wonderful engine noises, legendary drivers and very well filmed overall) and for the wrong reasons (We all know what happened throughout that weekend).
Thank you for your upload though 👌 It has generated several emotions inside me.

Great home video of one of the most notorious days in Formula 1 history. Ayrton Senna was may favorite F1 driver and still to this day I wish he never left McLaren to drive for Renault. I remember Dale Earnhardt won the NASCAR race that day and was very somber due to the death of Senna. Formula 1 rule changes in 1994 took away the handling dominance Williams Renault had the year before. I still believe it was a factor leading to the crash and death of Ayrton Senna. If Ayrton had not passed that day, he would have been the greatest F1 driver ever. Better than Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.
    RIP AYRTON SENNA 😢
