Bobby's 38 with a severed tendon and still had 3 years of pro hockey ahead of him ! Bobby Hull was old school tough and the BEST winger of all time,( along with Gordie), $10,000,000 pussies of today just are not in Bobby's class or league.

I like how he highlights how he used to shovel the snow to play just like I used to.
And he also says the younger players won't do that - they just grew up playing in the indoor rinks.

I got Bobby's autograph in 1982 on a Northland stick, which I still own to this day. He was at Mountain arena in Hamilton, Ontario. He was there watching his son Blake playing for the Dixie Beehive's against the Hamilton A's.

Funny to hear them talk about how many more years Bobby and Gordie would play. They ended their NHL careers on the same day while both playing with the Whalers in 1980. I was there but no one knew at the time that their careers had just ended.

The Golden Jet & his kid Brett Father Like Son. I remember seeing a publicity picture of Bobby Hull wearing a NY Ranger jersey way back when the WHA merged with the NHL. I had the privilege to go to Ranger games and it was a real treat see Gordie Mr. Hockey play against the Rangers @ MSG on the same line with his sons Mark & Marty Howe. I could help but get sentimental when Bobby Hull spoke so highly of his Swedish line mate Ulf Nilsson & Anders Hedberg both who were a gift to the NYR team. I can't help but think of how cool it would have been to have seen them play on the same line with Hull for the NYR's. Nice Posting !

I'd like to get that book! I am reading Pierre Pilote's book, almost done now. It sez in that book that Bobby was onto the CROOK Eagleson from the very beginning! I been a Hawk fan since the early 60s as a child. Bobby was my hero growing up in Canada. Shame that SOB Eagleson didn't let Hull play in the Summit Series! That's why I quit hockey too...POLITICS. And why Brett went American and I don't blame him for that!

Bobby was always a class act, and had plenty of time for fans, autographs, photos whatever. He understood that it was the fans who supported the teams and paydays for him was from those who came through the gate to see the games. Unlike some of the NHL punks of today, he understood the important role of fans and he insured that he took the time to show them he appreciated it by returning their requests with amicability, respect and dignity. I've been in his presence and saw how affable he was with others, including other players who might have been his worst enemy during the season, but showed them the same kind of respect he expected....

    • @robertsprouse9282
      @robertsprouse9282 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No.
      Check the rosters..their whole careers.
How many are in the HALL and how many when HOCKEY WENT FROM 30+ TEAMS to 21, stayed in the NHL?
How many were gone within three seasons after the merger? How many were NHL rejects who were minor league stars before, with in their prime big minor league numbers before they washed out of the NHL even after it added BUFF.&VAN&ATL&NYI, AND KC, AND WASH..
And, where were those 10 EUROS at after 1980?
No, your goalie could not re-make the NHL team who landed his rights.
You had some average caliber/calibre NHL talent in 1976, on the best team in WHA HISTORY IN MY OPINION, 2ND WOULD BE THE '74-75 AEROS..but how many starred after 1979?
Injuries cannot explain it all away.
Peter Driscoll, what did he do in the NHL after the merger?
WILLIE LINDSTROM, solid NHL player, but not for long.
NOW PULL OUT the MONTREAL CANADIENS roster..yeah
      THERE IS NO COMPARISON.
Winny in '76&77 would have been a 70 to low 80 pt'er. at best in the NHL, and what happened after your guys- even with decent NHL teams- got to the NHL in '79, proves that.
Even the all-offense, no-defense forwards such as MIKE ROGERS, BLAINE STOUGHTON, RICK VAIVE, from the WHA were out of the NHL before they were thirty two.
REAL CLOUTIER had two good seasons, and then..pfffft..
NOPE, THE NHL was superior to the WHA then, and please do not use exhibition games vs the WHA OR RUSSKIES VS JETS as examples.
      It means zip.
If THE BEST MONTREAL TEAM HAD PLAYED THE BEST WINNY CLUB..It would be over in 4 or 5, tops..MC 24 GOALS WJ 13 GOALS..IN FIVE..
      IN 4, 19-11..
LES CANADIENS would stuff your speed, clog up your attack, and with K. DRYDEN..fuhgeddabout it!
      No.
      YEP..

No way the Jets were better than the top NHL teams, but Hull, Hedberg, and Nilsson were the best line in hockey I've ever seen. And yes it was Nilsson that made the line so spectacular, he always came up with the puck, wouldn't allow himself to make a bad pass, and would lay out a pass near the net that made it impossible to not score. So yes they were the next easiest thing to an empty net goal.

Check out the difference from Team Canada 72 to the 76 roster. Hull and Bobby Orr missed the 72 series but were both fantastic in the 76 series despite both being past their prime. Hull was 37 in the 76 series and still led the Canadien team in goals.

They spent some time talking about his son Brett. I will never understand how no one drafted this guy until the 6th round and then in his rookie year at just 23, on his way to a 30 goal rookie year, he is TRADED?!?!? I know he was probably a pain in the ass to deal with and he wasn't known for being caught in his own end of the rink very often but come on...he had 26 goals after 52 games (he played only 5 the year before) and you decide you can do better without him??? Calgary won the cup in '89 without him and that is usually the only basis for measuring a trade but they had an awfully strong team in those years. Could they have won more??? We will never know but that one is a head scratcher for me.
