Thank you for the comments/explanations! I lm aware this is a classic so on a first listen while listening to his voice for the first time I got the meaning misunderstood. I fully appreciate this song more after rewatching and listening and hope to dive more into his work soon!

Geroge's voice is so amazing, it's easy to get lost in the sounds. How many notes can you get out of "her"? George like 12 notes out of that sylallbe. He has a TON of good songs - funny novelty songs, AMAZING duets with Tammy Wynette ("golden ring" is touching, and "two story house" is fun) and cheeky songs like "the corvette song".

It's understandable. George Jones, aka, possum, loved the ole bait n switch in his music.

The Corvette Song is another great plot twist song from old George. Country lyrics have a lot of cleverness to them, despite the simple appearance of the artists.

The first line explains his love for this woman. " He said Ill love you til I die." He stopped loving her when he died and they carried him away to his grave.

This is what I was going to say. His friend loved her till he died. She came to see him at his funeral. They placed a wreath upon his door, and soon they'll carry him away.

    Great Reaction to this Classic.......
When George was presented with this song, he didn't want to record it, saying that no one would listen to such a sad song...... It ended up being one of his biggest HIts, and gave his career a second breath of life......
Singer is talking about his friend, the main character in the story who passed away......
    - "He said he would love you till I die"
    - "All Dressed to Go Away"..... Undertaker had done funeral preparations.....
    - "They placed a wreath upon his door".... In the south they use to hang a black wreath on the front door to signify a death in the family.....
    - "Soon they will carry him away"..... take him from the house where the visitation was held to cemetery......
    - "She came back to see him one last time....." She attended the funeral......

Aileen it was his friend who died, In the first line it says he told her he would love her until he died, he stopped loving her because he died, They placed a Wreath upon his door and carried him away, The lady came back to attend the funeral.

Oh my sweet weepin’ Jesus!! 🥲
    hey lil’ lady Aileen,
been a min., but we’re back! … and with “The Possum” even!
I actually saw grown men and women break and cry, when that song was judo played on the ol’ dance floor juke box, when they used to exist. Geo had a way with the words - a specialist in his craft. could’ve had a little to do with his experiences. whatever it was, he had a double portion of it.
no body could do it like George!
good reaction, and video @lil’ lady Aileen!! 🥹
PS: when most of the old timers of Country were dying off, Geo wrote and sang a song, called:
“Who’s Gonna Fill These Shoes?”. another pretty good song.

Good country music is all about telling stories. It's part of what sets it apart from other genres. They aren't always stories, but you get the idea.
This one was very indirect and I haven't heard anyone react to this that understood that the man stopped loving her because he died. They tend to get wrapped up in the voice and while they hear the lyrics, they generally don't comprehend the clues that are given.

Hi Aileen 😊 I saw that your reaction to George Jones's He Stopped Loving Her Today dropped while I was at work and I watched your reaction with the sound down in the break room and turned on the transcript so I could read your words... Magnificent heartfelt spectacular are words that describe your reaction 😊👍 You're absolutely right😊 the genre may be different and yet talent is unmistakable and this is what we enjoy 😊 Yes in the country community, George Jones was considered the best country singer not only his tone but also his phrasing and storytelling 😊 Also how he puts his mind, soul and Spirit into each of his songs and you picked up on this beautifully 😊👍 Before listening to your reaction here at home, I read all the comments including your PIN as you explained that on first listen there was a misunderstanding in the lyrics, namely the Southern culture of things...a black wreath on the door denoting death. The opening two lines set the tone..."I love you till I die" and "You'll forget in time"and then the story unfolds. I think a lot of people think that your reactions are rehearsed and that you might listen and re-listen before recording but that is not true, if they have been listening to your recordings for very long. I discovered your channel with your reaction to the Beatles Now and Then back in November last year and then I began listening to your reactions from your beginning and brought it forward. In listening to your reactions, I have come to understand you, as a person, and how you present yourself and react to the videos in a very fresh sense so that your reactions are pure and honest. This is something that is very important to you. Because of this we who are watching learn how you think, how you listen and how you feel and you take the time to explain this to us. And you have stated this that there are those who listen and you want to feel which in turn leads to understanding. Many get annoyed of you pausing to reflect on a particular idea that you have that the song conveys to you. These people are in the minority. The reason we love you and the reason why your channel has grown is because we delight when you pause the video to explain something that has hit you. You do discuss it later in the closing comments and that is great. You have also stated that at first when you were starting your channel you were doing things the way others were doing and you became unhappy and you scrapped everything and decided that you were going to do things your way and look what has happened. Your statement from the beginning is that you are a lover of all kinds of music which allows you to listen to all kinds of music fresh and we get to enjoy your reactions. All the recommendations that I see in the comments are all outstanding and I look forward to your reactions 😊 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍

It's not a healing song, it's maybe the saddest song I've ever heard. To be fair, you wouldn't be the first reactor to misunderstand this song. Honestly, I think George's diction is a little lapse, so sometimes it's easy to miss what he's singing about. The first time I ever heard this song was when I saw Tom Jones in concert a few years ago, and he sang this. And of course with Tom, you can understand every word. And the whole arena was spellbound, it was an absolute gutpunch. And by the way, you really need to check out more from Tom.

They placed a wreath upon his door…. Down South, when someone passed away, we place a wreath on the door of the house to let neighbors know the house is in mourning.

Great reaction, great song. I've been heartbroken by a girl, whom I loved very much. But she started playing games and I broke up with her while still loving her to death. It's been hell for a few months. Men, be men and understand, when a woman leaves, she already has someone lined up, let her go, work on yourself, join a gym, get hobbies and never ever take her back.

If you want more country music, I recommend George Strait's “Amarillo By Morning”. It’s a country classic

Its been said that when George Jones sings the crowd cries, the band cries and the roof starts leaking.

Thank you for reacting to a country song, and I like when you stop and talk about the song.

I am not a fan of more modern country music (to each their own, but if someone starts singing about their tractor, they've lost me) but I love the sound and melodies of more classical country music, although even that I don't normally seek out. I haven't heard this one in quite some time and it is a beautiful song, and I loved your thoughts on it and don't worry at all about rambling, that is what we are here for!

I would suggest "The One I Loved Back Then" ( a more upbeat song) and "The Grand Tour" another sad song. George Jones was brilliant at being able to convey motion. In his fun songs, you see an emotional impact still. However, his sad songs strike at the heart. He had struggles with alcoholism and was divorced by one of his wives (Tammy Wynette) who I think he never fully got over. To me that is the emotion he taps into in songs like this and The Grand Tour. Thanks for a fun reaction.
