  • Are you a creative that would love to learn more about mark-making and how to play with different marks in your art journal or sketchbook? In this video, I talk about how I adopted my own marks for the art that I'm selling, and how I relate to those marks as an artist. I also explore art supplies that I love and give some insights to beginners on how to get started.

    How could I possibly have reached the age of 71 and not thought to re-use my old books like this? I only came across your site this morning and have already seen a good half dozen ideas I must try. Thank you Allison for sharing your beautiful work and your creative ideas, you're a wee gem (as we say in Scotland). Now I must get painting 😊

    What beautiful art to be surrounded by. I’d keep each and every card and have a "card du jour." Lovely!

    You have made art so fun again for me! I love the freedom of laying down paint and then doing mark making over it. Your style and color palette has inspired me! Thank you!

    Fun video! So many great tips and helpful advice. Art IS all about layering, but I’ve never really thought about that so explicitly before. I enjoyed the idea of using fingerprints in your art and creating spreads with favourite marks.

      thanks Jay Sea! yes- when i look at my earlier work, there is just one layer or maybe two, but now I layer until i love the piece! when you are painting, it does help to have a “inspiration” page or map or photo to look at for quick ideas.

    This is so helpful! Exactly the kind of information I need. I also understand now why I wasn't satisfied with some of the marks I have tried and will try going over them again. Thank you so much!

      thanks Cathy. this will also help guide my future videos! Yes, paint pens are wonderful but they really need a few coats to get that painterly opaque look!

    im a bilingual w two different script langs. because Farsi and English have such a different alphabet. i use my Farsi signature in English as well and since Persian calligraphy is ao visually dynamic, it looks like a micro sketch itself.
    (i also use the Farsi words w English alphabet for passwords. never have had a password hacked in my entire life)

    working a small sketchbooks with all types of media...had watercolor ground page to test with warm inktense pencils. The ground seems to work well with cheaper papers for not wet media, and created texture under the ink. When dry, will add poscas, moonlight gelli rolls, carbothello pencils...ty.

      thankyou for taking the time to share your insights and ideas! i have limited experience with watercolour ground. recently i tried it on wood panel but it’s a lot of prep work … i’m a bit inpatient with the prepping.:)

    Allison, what brands of watercolor paint do you use? I looked for a supply list but never saw one....thanks in advance. From Brooks, AB.

    • @allisondawrant
      @allisondawrant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh Brooks! Awesome. I mix and match a LOT. But I love Kuretake (Amazon or Calgary art stores- Inglewood and Kensington art supply). I order from www.theoceanpaper.com but it's $ as it's from Kauai. I love Stone ground paint co, and I think they are based in Sk, Canada. email me if you need more deats!
