      @userloser44d Hard to say. Hua Hin district 'officially' has approx 65,000 total people. 125,000 if factoring in surrounds. So you'd have to guesstimate a ratio of year-round foreigners, 5%, 10%? Somewhere between likely. STL

    Hi @SideTripLife, I have a question; you rented a car but I am going to Hua Hin soon and I do not drive, do you have any tips for taxi or apps to request a cab in Hua Hin? Thanks, and great video :)

    • @SideTripLife

      @Ririan Pelegrini Hi there, to get to places in town and & nearby areas down to Monkey Mtn/Takiab, best to just flag a green Songthaew for 10-20 baht (covered pickup with seats, seen in parts 1 & 2 will link below). They pass along the main street Phetchkasem frequently (15-30 ins apart) in daytime. For further distances say Khao Tao/Had Sai Noi Beach etc, no apps unfortunately so best negotiate with the private car/drivers on almost every street with a 'Taxi' sign displayed. They'll start with a crazy high price so negotiate down and politely decline if not budging and move on to next one. The newer style Tuk-Tuks you'll see gathered at the intersection to beach lane (just down from Mcdonalds) are more comfy than the old style ones and ok for these distances too. Also bet the Sanae Beach Hotel at Had Sai Noi has return shuttles so could chance a one-way tuk-tuk? Or just try to negotiate the car/driver for the day and see several places many of which you can map out in this vid and the others are below.
      Enjoy!

      if you cant drive or ride a motor bike, and you want to see many things in one day make a list of the places you fancy and negotiate a price for the day with one of the Tuk Tuk drivers parked up near Sirin hotel or just along from the Hilton, but dont let them bully you into there choice of places to visit, 4-5 different places would be ok for a day out, PS, make sure everyone is sure about the price before you agree to use them, good luck and enjoy

      Ririan Pelegrini Staying in Hua Hin I drive motorbike for my daily trips. Whenever I need a car I use the app from Grab. Grab is like a South-East Asian version of Uber. Cheaper and predictable prices when you know where you’re going compared to taxis/tuk tuks. Nighttime Grab car to my condo 124 baht, taxi/tuk tuk 200. Cleaner and safer cars (safety compared to tuk tuk), mostly more polite drivers, rating systems of the service and so on. If Grab is available I never use normal taxi/tuk tuk services. Grab beats them all the way! Going for longer trips your hotel might give you good recommendations for services with fixed prices.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Terje D Thanks for the info and suggestion regarding GRAB app. It's a great service, use it often in Bangkok, plus have used Grab in Saigon and even in Yangon. In Hua Hin there are fewer Grab drivers of course but it's doable for around town (they may ask you to walk a block away from any taxi waiting areas tho;). Also ok to take a one-way Grab 'FROM' Hua Hin town to say Khao Tao Village or Had Sai Noi Beach etc. However, for the return trip from places like these slightly away from town, there may be no GRAB drivers around there or willing to drive out there from town to bring you back... So best check before if there are any Grab rides around your DESTINATION area. Also after 5 pm any available earlier may not be later. Can still usually wrangle some sort of transport back like a tuk tuk etc. Just a heads-up.

      @butterflytrader 1 Hi there BFT, Had Sai Noi beach shown in my vid has very clean water. But of course Hua Hin and all coastal areas up the Gulf have generally less clear water than places further South like Samui etc. However, depending on time of year Hua Hin can still have quite clear water (see my part 1 video from Oct for example, link below). But when the wind blows across the gulf especially in Nov-Feb, plus combined with higher tides, the water will be less clear. In Hua Hin town near the pier area, there's an out-dated water treatment plant which is constantly being upgraded but she's maxxed out. Thus most swim on the main beach from Hilton down to Takiab. Of course like in most coastal towns the further away from town you go the better the beaches are.
      Edit: forgot to add the links doh!
      Check out the water in Part 1 (October) vs Part 2 (January)

      @@SideTripLife There have been recent 2019 incidents of oil spills (illegal discharges at sea) reaching Hua Hin beach with large clean ups necessary and residual oil remaining under the top layer of sand to get picked up by feet/ sandals. Maybe check it out from local news/social media before you plan a whole day out on the beach.

      @Ian Pickering Hi Ian, Lady who runs Sirin Hotel down from McD's. Usually she's around the restaurant. Ask for a used Vios automatic for 800B, not one of the newer models they offer on the street out front. Usually they call a guy to bring it around, decent enough car. Good luck

      Another choice is by using AirBnB, book it by monthly is about the same price around $250-$350 depending the location, but by using AirBnB you don’t have to sign a contract and no deposit required, and if you don’t like the place after a month just look for another place to live.

      @SideTripLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Dear Nicolas - you've posted and reposted this same comment in my January video which was decidedly not empty as documented. I also watched a livestream from Hua Hin last week and again, not empty but definitely quieter to be sure (as is Bali, Vietnam, Cambodia etc etc etc due to current 'hysteria'). One suspects you have some agenda or axe to grind with Thailand? If so you would find a more welcome format and many brothers (up) in arms over at the ThaiVisa forum/ whinging post. Meanwhile, I hope for all the Thai people and people of Asia depending on tourism to feed their families that things return to normal as soon as possible. Wish you the best as well. Cheers!
