In this video, I'm telling you all about labor and delivery and why it's actually GOOD for moms and babies when we leave things as alone as we safely can.
In this video, we talk about how common interventions like epidurals, induction of labor, and c-section can pose short and long term challenges and why avoiding them unless completely necessary makes labor happier, healthier, and easier.

Im a first time mama and just had an all natural hospital birth after taking your course! It was such an empowering experience and I truly credit your course for getting me mentally and physically so prepared! I arrived to the hospital at 5cm dilated and had my baby 4 hours later. I was complimented by my midwife on my breathing and was so comforted by your hypnobirthing tracks in labor. Thank you Bridget!❤ I'm so thankful I was able to have a natural birth for all the reasons you outlined in this video.

I was one of the people who didn't understand the appeal of natural birth at all. When I was pregnant with my first, I said to anyone who asked "I'm not trying to be a hero!" or "would I have my wisdom teeth removed unmedicated?" I honestly had a positive experience with the epidural and loved the birth experience, but there were a few things that nagged at me about that day and made me reconsider getting an epidural again (baby did struggle with respiratory distress, too many people had to help me position myself which felt a little undignified honestly, a lot of subsequent interventions, a longer labor and a lot of "meddling" down there that likely contributed to my developing chorio, couldn't feel if I was effectively pushing, etc). I went on to deliver my second child unmedicated. And let me just say, I would choose an unmedicated birth 100% for any subsequent babies. It really was an empowering experience, we managed to avoid all of the issues I experienced with my first birth, and - HUGELY IMPORTANTLY - recovery was sooooooo much easier following my unmedicated birth. It was night and day easier. I just felt so bogged down after my epidural for days, even though it was a good epidural and I didn't necessarily have any of the true side effects. I also felt like I had been totally *battered* down there after my first birth, which I attribute to pushing blindly without full sensation and without being able to position myself naturally. I definitely felt a lot better a lot quicker after the unmedicated birth.

it seems to me like asking an athlete to perform their sport while completely numbed up, chances are there will be worse injuries. when you cant feel the pain your body is telling you, you dont know when to slow down or when to stop, there are genetic conditions that cause lack of pain perception and its not a blessing its a curse, we all actually NEED pain. Our medicine just got so advanced its unneeded for unnatural, manmade things like surgery, but not for childbirth. thank god for medicine but pregnancy is not a pathology.

Currently pregnant 40 weeks 1day. This is my second baby. I chose a natural birth for my first because I have really bad anxiety in hospital settings and I didn't like the idea of having a bunch of strangers at my birth. My first was 2 weeks late and I had a 2 hour labor! And only my midwives and my husband were there, just like I wanted. It was such a positive experience we're doing it again. A note for new mamas: please research postpartum! I spent so much time learning about pregnancy and birth, but didn't spend hardly anytime on learning about postpartum. Needless to say it was rough. This pregnancy I did my research and came up with a game plan for postpartum.

Which areas in particular for postpartum would you say is the most important to research thoroughly?

    • @AshleeMarie-tb5fi
      @AshleeMarie-tb5fi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Congratulations 😊. I totally agree with the postpartum research. I'm six weeks post partum with my first, and was also very unprepared.
Biggest thing I have had to learn to do is get rid of all your expectations and take each day as it comes. Do NOT compare yourself to any other woman in any regard, and accept your healing timeline as your own. The limitations it will put on you will force you to slow down, and that is a GOOD thing.
Newborns are HARD, you might not connect straight away with your baby, sleep deprivation with a crying baby that you can't settle can push you to your limits, you will realise sometimes you haven't eaten yet at 4pm and it's okay to not love all of this, to even actively not like it and be pissed off. It is no reflection on your capacity as a mother or your love for your baby. These things make you strong!
And what I can say despite all of that, is that I absolutely love my daughter more and more every day, it's all worth it 100 times over, and the hard days pass. You'll have more of them but you'll have incredibly beautiful moments with your baby which make you forget the shitty parts of the newborn phase.
Long story short - be prepared for the most challenging moments of your life, but know that they will pass (and quickly) and it is all totally worth the pain!

@@talebm5008 It's going to be different for every mom. For me it was learning to ask for help and not trying to power through everything. I was up and trying to be normal a week after having my daughter and sustaining a 3rd degree tare. Yes, I was dumb to try to act like everything was normal. After a baby your life will never be the same. Take each day as it comes and learn to let go of expectations for yourself, your husband and your baby. Babies are unpredictable. Mine woke up every 2 hours to nurse for the first 3 months of her life. At 22 months old she still wakes up at least 3 times a night. I don't say that to scare you, but to let you know that parenting is about surrendering your expectations and embracing the child God has blessed you with. And remember your baby is only going to be a baby once. The nights are long and the years are short.
Bottom line, learn to ask for help for your first 6 weeks at least, try to get at least a month worth of meals in the freezer before your baby arrives or have your friends/family/ church drop meals off. Don't try to entertain guests, you just pushed out a little human, let the guests take care of you. Prioritize your energy and set healthy boundaries with visitors. You can put a note on the door saying you are not up for visitors today or recovery in process please keep your visit to half an hour so mama and baby can rest. I hope this helps.

Hi Bridget! I just delivered my first baby on April 1st. It was an unmedicated vaginal birth which I could’ve only hoped for in my dreams. I could get through the early and active phases of labor with just your breathing exercises and was already 5cm dilated when we decided to go to the hospital. Less than 4 hours later, he was born! Thank you so so much for everything you do for mamas everywhere! ❤️

Yes you can do a natural birth ladies! It's amazing what we can do! God bless you all! I had my first in November 2023 All naturalg at a birth center. I labored at home all night and in the morning i went to the birth center at 10cm. I loved that they didn't force me to push until I felt ready.. I got to relax in the birthing pool until my body was ready to go. It was calm peaceful and i laughed sung and prayed. I was singing on my way to the center inbetween contractions (i was in transition) 8lb 7oz no rips or tears. My husband held me from behind as I sat on a birthing stool to push. My midwife held a mirror for me to see everything.. most beautiful experience ever. I got up 30 minutes later and said I can do that again! Lol I can do it, you can do it, we can do it! God bless you all!!

I just wanted to share my story in case it helps anybody. When I was pregnant I did all the right things, I did all the exercises, I did all the breathing, I did all of the hypnobirthing. when I was in labor, I successfully made it to 9 cm dilated albeit it was not as peaceful and Serene as some people make it look. I was writhing in pain and the midwife kept telling me if I felt like pushing I should push. I never felt like pushing but the contractions were intense. After a while the midwife saw that I had something called an anterior lip of the cervix which means you are dilated completely but your cervix isn't pushed back so you are not ready to push. When I was trying to explain to The midwives or my husband what it felt like to be in labor at the end, I told them it felt like I was being burned alive. I begged them to take me to the hospital to get an epidural because I couldn't handle the pain anymore. They kept telling me that I wanted to have a natural home birth and that I'm doing so well, but unfortunately I was stuck in fully dilated contractions but I wasn't ready to push. This was continuing for a couple of hours until I completely shut down, curled up into a ball and stopped responding. That's when they decided to take me to the hospital and I got my epidural. I successfully had a vaginal birth but the pushing was difficult because I could not feel my body. Because of what I have been told I am capable of and I was not able to have a natural birth, it caused me to go into postpartum depression because I was very disappointed in myself for the fact that I could not handle the pain that was supposed to be natural and us women were supposed to handle it no problem. I hope that women watching these channels take everything with a grain of salt because your labor might not go how you would expect and if that's the case that you are not beating yourself up for it because that can cause a lot of negative mental issues besides the hormonal shifts that are happening postpartum.

I get what you’re saying but you had an issue that caused you more pain than you should’ve had. Any women can have an anterior lip of course but the point of these videos are to encourage and inform women that it’s very possible and to not let fear get in the way of having the labor experience (no pain management) they’d like to have.

    • @bsp7386
      @bsp7386 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I hear you and feel you, I just had a similar experience with an anterior lip plus a 30 hour labor. It was not pain free, it was painful as hell, even after all the hypnobirthing prep I had done. I'm not even sure it felt empowering in the end- though I was proud of myself. If anything it gives me compassion for the huge variety of experiences out there and how there is no one "right" way to do something.

@beee4444 talk about toxic positivity. "Don't share your experience to help other women. Don't encourage mothers to not feel ashamed if they can't meet my perfect ideals" ... how is that helpful? You've lost the plot. The whole point is to encourage pregnant and birthing moms, for the best physical and mental wellness that's possible for them. Even the lady in the video says that going 100% unmedicated doesnt apply to those outside the norm, who absolutely need medical interventions. Of course it isn't ideal, but there's no need to be afraid of having that outcome, either. Your birth may not go to plan either, and you would be just as strong, capable, and a good mother in spite of it. Sadly, I don't see that encouragement, compassion, and acceptance anywhere in your message.

Well, let me tell you that I am 56 now, and I was 27 and 29 when I had my boys, but the hours of those two natural births have been with me ever since. The trimuph, the pride, the adventure, the bonding, the amazing moments... The beautiful empathy with which my husband supported me with a lovely mix of humour and dedication... The memory of my first encounter with each of the boys in those first minutes... It is something that has shone through my relationship with both of them all these years. And when I say this I am aware that I myself, when I was born in 1968, was born into the arms of my father, because they were doctors and he was there... and my relationship with him was something amazing, too. And now here I am, picking birth videos for my son and daughter-in-law for their first birth due in 3 weeks' time. Yes, I do believe we should encourage and support and educate mothers AND fathers to go through this using a combination of a healthy natural process and the security that modern medicine provides, and let this become an amazing experience of competence, health and bonding, the most beautiful celebration of Life.

I am 6 weeks post partum and I was planning for a natural unmedicated home birth but had to be induced after 42 weeks as when my waters broke there was meconium. I went in for monitoring and they strongly recommended induction to avoid infection, as I didn’t go into labour, even with the waters broken. I reaaaaally didn’t want to go down that route, but I also wanted to do what is best for the baby so I agreed to it. Thanks to your breathing exercises and work on mindset I was able to get through the induction without an epidural and deliver vaginally without any other interventions. It was tough but so worth it, thank you so much for everything you do,

I really wanted a natural birth but as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I’ve had an extreme fear of pregnancy and labor since I was a little girl.
As an adult I couldn’t let go of that fear and after 3 days of trying to give birth naturally I needed to have a c section. I didn’t make the connection to my body’s inability to release until I had a debrief with my doula. Not sure if hypnobirthing would have helped me but it’s something I might consider if I decide to have a second.

Bridget thank you so much for your videos, they helped me through the last weeks of my pregnancy making me trust my body as I got a lot of pressure since week 39 to induce labor due to having a large baby, even though my first baby was 4.5 kilos and had a natural birth without tearing much at 41+5. I gave birth to our second baby the 23rd of march at 41+3 and a lot of fighting with dokters who didn’t agree to wait for the baby to come naturally. Finally labor started around 00.15 and I immediately had very consistent contractions. Arrived at the hospital around 3am where I could choose to go home if I wanted to because I was only at 2cm and my cervix was still high. I’m glad we decided to stay because I got admitted at 4.10am and our baby was born at 4.44!! Not long after being in the room, I suddenly got the urge to push which didn’t make sense because I was only at 2 cm maybe 20 minutes earlier! My husband went to let the nurses know and when they came to check me they didn’t believe me, when the midwife checked me she shouted the head the head! Run run!! They run like crazy through the hospital with me in the bed trying not to push🤣It was an amazing unmedicated birth and no tearing at all! One thing I did was walking and moving a lot through labor, and of course breathing and trusting my body. Oh, I also ate 7 dates per day starting 2 month before my due date.

I liked it that way because I was in charge of the situation and I was telling them when it was time to push. They reduced the amount of medicine when I got to 10 cm. During dilatations time I felt nothings, I took a nap 😴

I had an unmedicated birth in June 2023. When i got pregnant, i knew i didn't want an epidural, but didn't know anything beyond that. I discovered your videos during my late second/early third trimester and watched them religiously. Thanks to all your tips and tricks, as a first time mom, i gave birth after only 4 hours of labor and even arrived to the hospital at 10cm dilated which I'm sure is probably almost unheard of for a first time mom. I would 100% go unmedicated again for my next, thanks for all you do Bridget!

With my first baby I tried a natural birth. With a breech baby I had to go to a hospital that allowed me to try it. My water broke early, i started with contractions around 15 hours later and dilated fully in 5 hours. My little girl didn't drop deeper into the birth canal and instead started dropping with her heart rate after every contraction. They stopped my contractions to give her time to recover, we tried an epidural to allow me to stand and get her to drop but it did not work and it ended with a gentle c-section. I was able to see them extract my daughter and hold her right away and uninterrupted for the next hours. Being prepared by this birthing course I was able to accept it right away and be thankful that we both were alright.
Last week I delievered my second baby in an unmedicated birth, only assisted by a midwive in a birthing center. From my waters breaking without contractions to holding my son in my arms took me about four and a half hours. It felt so empowering! I only had minor tears and feel so much better this time around.

Unfortunately for some people, the choice of natural vaginal birth is taken away due to complications that are out of their control, like a low lying placenta/placenta previa. In this case a vaginal birth with a LLP or PP at term is life-threatening and that couldn't be good for neither baby nor mom.

I asked for an epidural when I just couldn’t take the pain anymore, Gas&Air is useless when your 4cm and above dilated, so i was on my own, doctor came when baby’s head showed 😢

I kept thinking of the worst case scenario in the case of the epidural. I was afraid I’d startle when they put the needle in my back and it would end up paralyzing me! Leave it to my anxiety to think of the worst case scenarios, haha! However, after a few hours of contractions they offered me the epidural and I said yes without skipping a beat. 🤣 They numb the area where you get the shot so you don’t even feel it. It ended up being the best decision of my life. Instant relief!! From that point forth I could relax and sleep in preparation for pushing. I now give the epidural a high recommend! Take it from someone who hates needles too!

Hi! I had an unmedicated vaginal home birth for my first (which was amaziiiing) but I just found out I’m pregnant with twins so I’m now looking at a hospital birth and my obgyns are concerned about my not having an epidural during labor in the case that I need an emergency cesarean. They said they can do the lowest dosage later in labor just to keep the line open in an emergency but I’m not sure if that’s best. Have you had experience working with twin mamas and any problems with not having an epidural? I’m sure you don’t want to give any medical advice but any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Before having my first, I was watching lots of Bridget videos about natural birth, and was 100 percent sure that’s what I’ll do and that was my plan, I learned everything but when I went for labor, it was induced because of my diabetes, and I don’t know why I just couldn’t handle, I was trying so so hard but I was about to faint, everyone was worried and thought that I’m going to pass out, then when the doctor said “I’ll ask you again, do you want epidural “ I said yes and glad I did, everything got easier and gained back some energy to push, even with absence of sensations but at least I was able to push, which I couldnt do without epidural. But I did had all of the issues mentioned in the video, delayed delivery and breastfeeding issues…
Now being pregnant with #2 and watching this video, I feel really lost, I don’t want to struggle with the same issues with my 2nd baby again, but also I might not be able to have natural birth same as my 1st. also now knowing that epidural was the reason for all those issues will make it very hard..

I was induced via propess with my first in May 2020 (twice). Told me that I would have to have a csection if I didn't start dilating. Finally started dilating, had a sweep (which i found very painful), water broke next morning. I was handling it but the contractions got too intense, I was exhausted and alone (husband wasn't allowed to come till i was in active labour). Took pethidine so i could nap. In active labour, was told my contractions were too intense and i had to have a vacuum assisted birth or else it would have been an emergency c section. I had already been given something to reduce the intensity of the contractions. So i had an episiotomy and a vacuum assisted birth. I just remember the contractions being on top of each other and hardly getting a rest. I also had to be told when to push as I couldn't feel anything.
I'm hoping i get a natural birth this time without interference so i can listen to my body. It depends if they'll let me not be induced this time.
    Epidurals terrify me

Having my husband with me through labor and delivery is something that I wouldn’t want to do without. I’ve had four unmedicated home births and I’m planning on having a fifth in a couple months. There are natural induction methods you can look into, they tend to work for most people that I’ve heard tried them. Most of my babies have come a little before 40 weeks so I haven’t had much need to test all the methods that I’ve heard work well.

First time Mama, 4 weeks postpartum. I watched this video because I did have a natural birth, and I wanted to know what the benefits could have been. I did a natural birth because I saw someone online and their videos kept popping up and while subliminally it told me that everybody's trying to do natural birth, this person was very encouraging about her reasons (long-term suffering from physical ailments and giving power back to her body and herself), and I have a naturally high pain tolerance. So I thought, my body was made for this and I will do it. It was an intense experience. I did use laughing gas for the last 2 cm of dilation about the last 2 hours. I was very intrigued to hear about all this. Especially because in my past I have used alternative medication in the form of herbal remedies, and about 6 months before I got pregnant, I had suffered from fentanyl poisoning. I had no idea there was any amount in an epidural, but the way that my body reacted to the small amount that I received from my herbs, I am glad that I didn't get an epidural. In addition, my doctors wanted to induce me, which I was highly nervous about, I think it was my mama instinct kicking in. Because I hemorrhaged severely, and needed a Jada balloon treatment after my birth. It worked quickly, and my body has been healing up very well. This was a really cool video to watch and learn about the benefits that my body got to utilize and the nasty things that I avoided likely, by choosing a natural birth. If I'm able to have another child in the future, which I hope I am, I think I'll go natural birth again. Another huge thing it did for me, was completely reset my body. I have high functioning autism and ADHD, and during my pregnancy I was on the tail end of burn out, highly over stimulated, and literally every day, I was on the toilet for hours and hours with hyperemesis, until I got pregnant. It subsided enough for me to be able to eat and get through the pregnancy, and then after giving birth I felt entirely like a new woman. I don't have to medicate, no ibuprofen herbs or otherwise, I eat well without any of the mentality or diet issues that I had before, and I am generally happier, less stressed, and I believe in myself all the more. I think back on my labor, and I'm in awe.
Thank you again for posting this video, this was really neat to learn about and I will be sharing it with anyone who asks me why I did natural birth.

I just went through what will probably be my last birth, and i have a request. Do you have any suggestions for moms whos warer has broken, and they have to travel more than 30 minutes to the birth center or hospital? With my other two babies, the distance was no issue, because labor started before my water broke and was steady and predictable for baby one and induced for baby two, but with baby number three we were there by the skin of our teeth, and my baby was 15 minutes shy of being born in a Mustang. Let me tell you, sitting in the seat of a car and having contractions that are more and more intense, was such an unknown experience for me and I think if it weren't for my husband being steady as a rock and reassuring me thar he'd get us there, telling me when we were passing familiar landmarks and reminding me that I am strong and I've had two babies already without any pain intervention (not to mention that if the seats of the car get anything on them he can replace them 😅 seriously I was sure I was going to poop on the seat), I would have had a panic attack.

Thank you for your video, it was very encouraging. I am currently pregnant with my 3rd baby and I am really wanting to have an unmedicated birth this time due to a few reasons. 1) with my first baby I made the mistake of getting the epidural because I didn’t see any reason why I should go through the pain (despite the fact that my water broke at home, I was dilating extremely fast, and I was coping just fine). As soon as I got the epidural, my labor stalled big time and I nearly ended up having a c-section due to umbilical cord compression because I lost so much amniotic fluid.
    2) white my second baby, I tried to go unmedicated but I unfortunately started freaking out at how frequent the contractions were & how much pain I was in with only being dilated to a 2 and my water was still intact after hours of laboring, so I got the epidural. Everything was great, was comfortable, dilated pretty quick after I relaxed. However, I had to wait like an hour for my dr to arrive after I told the nurse I needed to push….. are you kidding me? I’m laying there with the water bag bulging out and you tell me I have to make myself not push for an hour?! The only reason I included this as a reason is because if I didn’t have an epidural, they couldn’t have told me not to push when my body said to.
Lastly, I am terrified of the headaches that can happen from epidurals. I have had several of my relatives have bad experiences with poorly done epidurals too, which also makes me wish to avoid that type of trauma.

I told myself that labour does not have to be painful... guess what I was in active labour and did not even realize it because it was much more manageable that I imagined.
The contraction app told me it was time to get to the hospital 3 times and I was convinced something was wrong with it.
When I got the hospital I was 7 cm dilated, and in between contractions I was having a laugh with my husband and the labour nurse .
My labour lasted 3.5 hrs and I pushed for 15 min before my boy was born strong ans healthy. I never even asked for pain medication.
Birth does not have to be painful, your program helped me tremendously.

I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd child and I'm actually completely torn. I had my first unmedicated at a birth center and while I was pretty stoked about it (it was fast, he was beautiful) I have been so anxious about having to experience that again. I felt like there was a point where I completely gave up on dealing with the pain and shut off and was completely just suffering. I shut down, on the toilet leaning against the wall, with the most horrible sensations unstoppably taking over my body. Later I was screaming like I was being murdered. I felt alone, even with a midwife and a doula and my husband. The baby was born and it was all better but the thought of doing it again has been keeping me up at night. I just had an appointment at the hospital to transfer my care from the midwives to the hospital. But I have not officially canceled with the midwives yet. SIGHHHHH. I actually cannot decide.

I'm struggling with my baby. I know he's still young almost three months. But he used to be able to fall asleep on his own, I could lay him in bed and he would fall asleep or he would fall asleep in his swing without assistance. Now he doesn't at all, I try to lay him down for a nap and he cries and cries until I help him fall asleep. It's not just a tired cry, almost like a colic cry his face gets red and holds his breath so now I'm stuck rocking him till really drowsy and then laying him down hoping he'll stay asleep. What would have changed? I haven't done anything differently it's like just one day he said nope I'm not gonna do this anymore. I'm exclusively pumping so this whole thing makes me feel like I'm just pumping and rocking my baby to sleep all day long. Any tips?

If you cant get a doula.. a support person who is there solely for you is also very beneficial. They should know(learn) about the birthing process so they know how to help you in each stage. I did mine at a birth center with no doula my husband was my support person.

Is it beneficial to try for a vbac after the first 2 were unwanted c-sections? I'm pregnant with my third and trying to decide whether a tolac is worth the risk of uterine rupture or if I should put aside my dream of a vaginal birth and just have a scheduled c -section

Do not risk your life for a “dream” birth. You have two kids already who need you to be around, and hopefully a third one depending on you soon too. Don’t chance it. A 28 yr old Arizona woman died recently from a vaginal homebirth attempt after she’d had two high risk cesareans previously. Uterine rupture, baby died, 12 hours later mom died.

I was 50 when I gave birth and had red lights from the doctors on me all the way through my very smooth pregnancy. Although my mum had had 4 home births at the age of 29, 31, 33 and 35, I knew that this dream was not likely to be my experience. We were told at 40 plus 4 that the amniotic fluid had reduced drastically and that they wanted the baby out quickly. I had an epidural and a c section after an attempted induction that caused baby's heart to fluctuate dangerously. BUT breast-feeding worked like an absolute dream. My daughter latched on straight away and my milk came in exactly when it should have. Although I love your work Bridget I find some elements of this video a little scaremongering, although I wouldn't argue overall with what you are saying, of course natural will always be best if that works for you.

I gave birth 6 months ago. I went into it terrified about the idea of an epidural because I didn’t want to get paralyzed by a needle. I watched a bunch of videos like this one to prepare and then while I was having contractions and they offered me the epidural I said yes in a heart beat. 🤣 I felt immediate relief. I could just relax and sleep for a few hours. It was SO wonderful. It isn’t true that you are stuck in bed if you get an epidural. You can get a walking epidural. I’ve had friends do that and it worked out great for them. I also would add that I could still feel the pressure of the contractions which made pushing the baby out go well. An hour and a half of pushing with some joking and laughing in between pushes with the nurses and the baby was in my arms. Labor time for my first was 6 and a half hours total. Every labor is going to be different. Do what’s best for you.

Thank god you haven't got fooled by these videos. I have already read the disclaimer part in this video description box and she is just doing a TH-cam channel 😂. No hate for her but, you gotta do your own research cause, what she mentions is not actually the truth. It's half truth but, epidural is not something that will make you paralyze and do whatever the bad things.

What about you want to have an unmedicated birth but they want you to be induced because of suspected very large baby at 40 weeks (i declined earlier, but I will go with the doctor’s recommendation at 40+2 days as it’s a gray area)?
I understand induction can be painful and long - Should I get an epidural in that case?

I had the epidural and it didn’t even work! It wore off after a few hours and I was honestly grateful that it did! I was able to feel what my body was telling me to do and respond and I had a very empowering birth with my son. My birth with my daughter was actually more difficult and I still did the epidural because I was so tired and it was such a long labor I thought I’d be able to take a nap if I got the epidural, but the nurses won’t leave you alone long enough for a nap so it was pointless and I should have just laid down for some rest rather than dance around the room trying to speed things up and get her lower. So next time! I have learned the true importance of resting as long as possible. Let your body do as much of the work for you as it can. Get up when you feel like it, and lay down when it feels good. I labored at home for 5 hours squatting and rolling on the ball and trying to progress as much as possible before going to the hospital and I was still only 4 centimeters when I got there. I thought the second baby should be faster so I was expecting to be in labor at the hospital for a few hours maybe, And it was another 13 hours after I got to the hospital before I was holding my baby girl. So next time I will be prepared for a long labor and I will let myself rest as long as possible, and I will utilize heat and water to help myself feel less pain in early labor so I can maybe sleep or at least feel rested when it is time to really help my body get through labor. I have now had two epidurals fail on me, so I am sure that I won’t bother again and that I know what to expect pain wise, and that I just need to rest more than anything.
I wish i could have just listened to my body more and not stressed out about timing or the baby’s position…. Rest. Best advice I can give any future mamas out there lol rest and let your body do most of the work. Your body will progress without you dancing around the room like I did lol

I really appreciate all your content and find it very informative and useful but I wish advocates of unmedicated birth would call it just that: unmedicated. The use of the word natural stigmatizes -often unintentionally- birth experiences that involved medically necessary interventions. In that sense, medicated births ARE also natural because it is natural to intervene on behalf of the mother and the child in certain cases. Instead of achieving inclusivity and encouraging mothers with vastly different experiences to try the unmedicated way, the use of this word often does the opposite: push them away.

Yesterday at screening they told me my baby has hydrocephalus despite everything else is ok and genetic tests from blood were ok and first screening at 13weeks showed negative results for all syndromes. My sister in law was told during the early ultrasounds for 2 of her 3 children that her pregnancies were “non viable” and was presented with the option to abort. Luckily she remained clam, waited. Those pregnancies are now a perfectly healthy 6 year old and 4 year old little girls. Early ultrasounds can be incredibly unreliable!

I usually don't read the comments but there's a reason I came across yours. It was discovered earlier in my mom's pregnancy with me that I had Hydrocephalus. My mom went into preterm labor at 4 months with me so was given medications to stop the labor. Other tests that were done showed I was viable otherwise. She was on bedrest for several months and closely watched. After several amnios to track my progress, it was determined at 34 weeks that my lungs matured enough for her to go into labor so all medications were stopped. She did not end up going into labor as thought so she had a c-section at 37 weeks with a team of neurosurgeons ready to go as that was deemed the safest option to deliver me with the Hydrocephalus. While her pregnancy was tough and I have had challenges with Hydrocephalus since birth, I can proudly say that I am now 32, successfully completed a master's degree, and getting ready to deliver my own baby in a few short weeks. Remember, everyone's experience with pregnancy and Hydrocephalus is very different and every child's experience with Hydrocephalus is very different. It very much does not fit into the "one-size fits all" category. I'd be happy to connect with you if you would like to me to share more about my experience.

As ideal as it would be to avoid synthetic oxytocin (pitocin) I’m not sure what other options there are when being induced? I don’t think anyone wants to be on the drip. So informing us how it’s not good in labour is also causing fear when you know you have to use it. I might have to use it again for this birth for active management of 3rd stage as I am likely to have PPH again, and I’m told by several midwives and consultants it helps the uterus to contract to minimise blood loss. Is this not true? I’d rather not nearly bleed to death like last time and feel like they are managing my risk.

Pitocin can be used after birth for PPH, and is much safer used in this application than to kickstart or augment labor. For one thing, it is a much smaller dose needed to slow bleeding. (Not a constant drip for hours).

    • @nemojzezat
      @nemojzezat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@AshleeMarie-tb5fi I am not quite sure what your reply means. Pitocin is given (or should be) only in absolutely necessary events. If you tell someone to avoid it, you are potentially putting them in harms way by not letting the doctors / midwives manage the risk you and / or baby are exposed to. As I said, I don't think anyone is running towards taking Pitocin. Quite on the contrary.

Lots of better options to boost your natural oxytocin production. 1) not inducing to begin with. 2) not cutting or clamping the cord and yes to letting placenta deliver naturally 3) kissing and nursing the baby right away 4) controlling the environment and limiting people in room so you biologically feel safe.

I'm sure you mean well, but why not call it a vaginal birth rather than a natural birth? As someone who had to have an emergency c-section, hearing people refer to vaginal births as natural makes me feel like something of a failure. C-sections can be traumatic, mine certainly was, and when someone says natural birth to refer to a vaginal birth, it makes me feel even sadder about what happened, as if I did something wrong because my birth wasn't 'natural' by comparison.

Sorry that you feel that way after your experience. It’s a great job and very grateful journey, if mommy have a c-section, and she and child are okay after that. You’ve done a great love and beauty experience! You’re already win and blessed
Natural birth means when woman giving birth without surgery with the power of body prime instincts. That mean that if we call c-section natural too - that would be not true: it’s medical invasion in a body to keep save mommy and child. If someone fills their lips or correct nose - it still surgery. That is not bad at all! That’s just life. That is a science definitions, that help us to understand the world. They don’t mean to hurt anyone, cos this is just terms. And no one judges anyone for having little help to go through difficult part. Every soul need some support in different part of their lives.

@@elvirasayarova7930 I agree that c-sections are not natural (but thank goodness they exist because they have saved so many lives). I just think there is a more inclusive label for 'natural births' which doesn't make others who haven't had this experience feel less like sh*t.
Saying vaginal and unmedicated birth gets the point across, is more precise and doesn't emotionally sting those like me who may already feel quite sad about how their birth experience went, even though I did get a healthy baby boy who I love more than anything. I really don't think it is just me who feels this way.
Also, I would like to have another baby one day, and I am sort of hoping I might have the chance to have a vaginal birth one day too. You know where I won't be coming for information - this channel, because it keeps referring to natural births and experiences rather than unmedicated or vaginal. And it is like rubbing salt in the wound. I am just suggesting this woman uses slightly more inclusive language because she doesn't know the experiences others have had regarding birth and pregnancy before.
