    Reactive Progression, as opposed to Custom Progression
    Strong Permanence

    It's insane how much effort must've gone into the speeches in Medieval 2. Seems like there's at least a few speeches per trait, on top of the all the other possibilities the general will speak about.

    Whenever I play m2tw, I always keep the bloodline pure and never accept adoptions. Always gives my campaign a stronger roleplay feel.
    It is a double edged sword though. I get as much born conquerors as deranged doodoo heads. Makes the game more interesting for me :)
    EDIT: an important tip that I would give to you guys is to exhaust your general's movement points (make sure he isn't leading any troops). You have a chance of getting a logistics trait which increases your general's movement points. It also prevents your general from becoming ignorant, which can prevent you from getting other good "skill" traits

    • @ToNerdistoHumanTNH
      @ToNerdistoHumanTNH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Certainly for role play, keeping the bloodline 'pure' can be good fun in a silly crusader kings kind of way! As you say, a bit of a double edged sword though.
      That is a very good tip though! Logistics is one of the best going.

      I always set the youngest princess to marry the king's grandkid, if they're at same age.
      Never get the incest trait tho.
      Funny enough, the 2nd n 3rd princes who married to noble ladies end up having odd offsprings 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @wuulfgaarth7186
      @wuulfgaarth7186 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well if your Royal bloodline is becoming a problem with too many negative traits that you don't like you can think about changing the dynasty. Use whatever roleplay method you like. I usually let one of my captains or generals take over the kingdom and leading all the royal house members into disastrous "accidents".
      Then it goes as normal but with a completely new bloodline and new surname.
      You can also do this with a distant cousin to keep some of the original bloodline to the new dynasty

    I played as the English and expanded quite a bit, I got into a war with Milan and I sent a young general down there with barely any traits... he lost the big battle and was the sole survivor of his guard, he went home massed another army and tried again .. 50 turns later he's donned the name Aston the Merciless and is a nightmare to all of Milan.

      Something changed in him that day. All his comrades died, but it can hardly be said that Aston survived. All that's now is hatred incarnate, and his thirst for revenge can never be sated.

I've played RTW and M2TW for what may be over 15 years, and I always assumed that traits and ancillaries were almost completely random, with very little player input, and therefore barely paid any attention to it, in spite of the thousands of hours people must have put into those systems, both in the base games (in building the systems) and mods (where they expanded on them). You may have very well have given a fresh breath of air for me to enjoy the games for many more years! Thank you so much!

    I think the number of generals comes into play here as a strat as well.
    The game gives you more kids if you have fewer generals and I think you're supposed to lose generals purposely throughout the campaign in order to maintain a birthrate within the main bloodline.
    I ended up getting so many generals one campaign that I stopped getting kids and my initial bloodline died.
    I made sure to keep my heirs active, so they end up having huge authority once the king dies, but as soon as I ran out of Biological sons, an adopted general became heir and he had 1 authority.

    In all of your time perusing the game files have you found the file that concerns that rate at which generals age? I’d like to create a 1:1 ratio so they aren’t hundreds of years old.

      Thank you!! Because you used the word 'perusing' (a favourite of mine) I will personally look that up!
      The first thing I think of is the "timescale" right near the top of the descr_strat file. From what I've fiddled with, changing it from 2.00 to 0.50 seems to work... might have some knock on effects but it makes the age and date run in sync (I think).

      To get chivalry in battles, you have to fight at even or worse odds, the worse the odds the better. What you do in the battle also helps - standing back just being a commander as opposed to getting stuck in and risking your life. Getting an heroic victory helps. Isn't it wonderful how M2TW makes you do the opposite to what you would normally do - always fight at the best odds possible - and denies you the purpose of strategic moves, which is to be the firstest with the mostest?

    • @earvindinoso7689
      @earvindinoso7689 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      depends...
      Chivalry is good for governors and generals, ass Hass Arfn said. It helps grow city and castle populations while allowing higher tax rates. For generals, it gives additional morale to your troops.
      Dread is good for generals in distant lands, as your generals that have high dread drops enemy morale. It's amazing when you can just flank a huge enemy army with just your general charging their rear and all of them routs.
      Chivalry is easy to get when you build churches, and town halls.
      Ending the battle when prompted, occupying the settlement, and releasing prisoners give chivalry.
      Also, winning battles not in your favor and doing the above gives chivalry as well.
      Dread is gained when your general is in the same city when you're recruiting spies/assassins.
      Executing prisoners, exterminating the populace, and winning battles that are heavily in your favor gives dread, as well as assassinating other captains/generals/agents.

      To increase chivalry is simple.
      Build small church/masjid 800fl. Get 1 chivalry
      Next turn, go outside. Destroy it for 266. Get in, rebuild it. Another chivalry point.
      Do it 16 times to get saint ruler (5 chiv, 3 auth)
      It also give religious activity (devout religious 3 chiv 5 piety)
      And chances of active builder trait, architect n overseer trait (build discount).
      Since he move every turn, it help cancel any ignorance, corrupt, drink, extravagant trait.
      So it cost about 8000fl and 16 turn to get 8 chiv, 3 auth, 5 piety.

      Hello! I do appreciate the criticism and I think alongside another similar comment to yours, I think I have come to agree with you.... When I made this video, what was a fairly small idea grew and grew into a big big video - I probably spent more effort on this than I think any other video on the channel. In doing so I definitely over-egged the pudding.
      This video was always meant as an overview - to highlight what traits were relevant to authority and thus what to look out for, rather than an in detail look at exactly how to get them. In the end it became an incredibly detailed look at traits, but as you say, not exactly paced or presented in an effective manner.

In some ways I'm quite proud of how detailed it is, but as you highlight, in future I'll need to find a clearer way of presenting so much information. I think it was a result of the video growing so much from its intended scale... I suppose it's one of the pitfalls of branching out into new styles of videos. Anyway, I've gone on long enough but I appreciate your comments - they confirmed what I sort of knew but needed to hear to properly improve the next of these that comes along.
