tbh i love this episode and the way aizawa turns questions back onto the crowd like "why do you assume he's bullying her" its ironic how everyone thought he was looking down on her when in reality bakugo was the only one seeing her as an equal. the crowd was underestimating her. One of my favorite episodes right here.
Fun fact: Bakugo calls everyone in the class by some other name with the exception of two students: Uraraka and Kirishima. Its mad condescending, but he only uses the names of the two he respects.
Before Uraraka was just "round face" but when she got back up after that massive explosion he got all excited and called her by name and as we saw, the only others to view her with some form of respect as a combative equal were Aizawa, Deku Iida, and Bakugoat (and Monoma I guess). Kirishima became a bro after the calvary fight ig but then again, Kirishima is everyones friend lol

Hes also been shown to call people by their real names when he's worried about them, an example being during the second movie when sero gets thrown in a battle scene bakugou calls out to him, using his real name. (not technically canon, but its still really interesting to see how the characters behave in these scenarios anyways) I love the idea that he secretly does care, but he cant show that he's got an image to uphold lmao. If anything though I think that really does highlight how much he does respect uraraka and Kirishima as his peers, because even though he does care about that image, he breaks it specifically just for those two. Hes such an ass, but he's also such an interesting character at the same time, gotta love our angry explosion boy
@@tyronebroson9180The movies are canon. Admittedly they do have some minor continuity errors but they're canon.
Nine, Melissa, Rody, and other prominent characters are in the manga and play a big part in the story to come. I don't want to spoil anything but one character in particular will be featured heavily in the next season.
This was the episode that made me love and respect Bakugo. He didn't underestimate her, he didn't go easy because she is a girl, and even at the very end when she is extremely hurt, Bakugo immediately goes into a defensive stance the second she begins to move.
Because he never looked down on her or saw her as weaker than him, he gave it everything he had, and that's all he wants from anyone that he has to face. To fight with their full ability. That's why he was so made with Deku before, he felt like Deku didn't think he needed his power to fight against him
He did look down on her though, the guy literally told her to give up before the match began, and then blamed Deku for giving her a plan he didn't think she would be capable of making up on her own.

@@gladiviapadron2460 Because he saw her the same way he saw everyone. He didn't respect her strength until he got told off by Deku. Prior to that he was looking down on her in the same way he looks down on others he feels are weak.
Even though Bakugo's my fave character, I gotta disagree slightly. He didn't go easy on her, that much is obvious but I wouldn't say he didn't underestimate her or never looked down on her. The way I see it, he might not have underestimated her quirk or her physical ability but it definitely felt like he underestimated her ability to strategise because of how he assumed it was Deku's idea; and it seems to me that Bakugo's default is to look down on someone unless they do something that he feels deserves his respect, which for Uraraka was him realising that in their match, it was all her.

They think that Bakugo was the only one who saw and acknowledged Uraraka's strength. This is flat-out wrong.
This was an eye-opener for Bakugo. He wasn't proven right. This was a big moment of character growth for Bakugo because it proved him wrong.
At the beginning of the fight, Bakugo literally told her to give up. It wasn't until after the fight that he admitted that she wasn't weak.
I think Mineta’s comment about Bakugo’s “tastes” was Mineta thinking that Bakugo was a sadist and enjoyed beating up girls.
Or just into BDSM

Fun Fact: Uraraka is the first person Bakugo acknowledges by name. He has “nicknames” for everyone else but he shows a lot of respect to her strength in this fight.
Didn't he call Kirishima "Kirishima" during the cavalry battle?
@@kratsche4699 Yes, he also calls All Might by name. So she's the third, but it's still a big deal. It's very rare for him to acknowledge someone's real name.

@ThePreator 11 While I get your point, it is a bit of a null point because of his ego skewing his own opinion of who he finds worthy or not. Bakugo is a character like Vegeta who finds it difficult to admit when someone is strong.
It's more of a factor of his ego getting in the way rather than actually respecting the other person.
@ThePreator 11 Nah, that's his ego. He's always had an ego. He calls people by nicknames because he feels superior to them.
Only recently in the manga, has he began to admit it.
6:36 To be fair, Bakugo finished 1st in the entrance exam, 3rd in Aizawa's Quirk test, 3rd in the obstacle course, 2nd (team) in the cavalry battle.
It's fair that people see Uraraka as the outsider and expects him to win.
He also finished second in the intelligence test in class too. He's extremely smart and talented, which also gives him an ego
Endeavor doesn't know about One For All, but he has figured out Deku's quirk is similar enough to All Might's that it would be good training for Shoto to go up against them. Its quite possible for two people to have similar quirks, even if they aren't related to each other.
Two quirks that are extremely similar are even shown in this arc, Hardening and Steel.
@@pepsi-4275 i wonder if hardening is stronger, since hard doesnt have a limit, but steel does. like something can always get harder, but you cant make steel more steely. its steel until it isnt.
@@kriegnes Yeah Hardening should eventually beat out Steel since it can increasingly get more durable. Though Steel would have other natural advantages since it turns the user into metal, unlike hardening just making your skin hard.
@@kriegnes It's a slight spoiler, but the Steel power has the ability to adjust to different kinds of metal with different properties, while hardening can't adjust its material.
so they are slightly different, with different abilities, but those only come into play with higher skill levels.

Deku: "Idk, just get close and use your Quirk lol"

i assume the full plan was gonna be based on close quarters shenanigans like when deku fought bakugo, like counter his opening right hook that he does every time, or use his own attacks as a smoke screen, but seems she was smart enough to figure that out regardless

Something to notice is that Bakugo called Uraraka by her name during the last part of the fight (before she fainted). That was because he was recognizing Uraraka as a worthy opponent. He uses nicknames for most of the other people that he doesn´t really respect at that level.
One of the funniest things about Bakugo, particularly in the anime, is they'll make him look like a gremlin when he's acting like one, and then give him the cleanest jawline shots like at 7:39 when he's not being so bad lmaooo
it's like a little reward for every time his character undergoes development
Honestly uraraka did far better in this fight than I expected when I first watched this, I always thought she was the passive type with weak physical abilities but she really pressed bakugo and it showed

I love how everyone say "if she touch him, she won", like the show never shown bakugo having a excellent mobility in air...
Mobility in mid air means absolutely nothing if he is under the effects of zero gravity. He would be spinning around helplessly like a goofball until the g forces make him pass out.
@@mouseinthehouse_ This and even a single small explosion can be enough to knock him out of the ring. One touch is enough to make his own quirk a problem.
I mean yes, take off the gravity from him would be a problem, but bakugo it's pretty smart (and even more bold), so I don't think it would be a big problem. The worst scenario I can think would be leave bakugo find out how to maneuver without gravity and then give him it back, but that mean that uraraka would lose all her advantage. I don't say she is useless, but against bakugo, there are few students that can have a clear victory
I always questioned that lmao, Bakugo can fly, he flies to do Howitzer impact (spoilers) later. Uraraka making him lighter would have worked against her probably

The thing I love about Bakugo is as insane as he might seem, he’s actually very sane and takes great observation. I cant wait to see his development because I already love the character!
Something I love about Bakugou in this episode is that even when the entire stadium starts booing him, he doesn't let it bother him. He KNOWS he's acting with honor, so they can say whatever they want; he knows his own mind well enough to know their opinions don't matter.
Uraraka: has earned Bakugo’s respect
Fun fact:Iida eyes are actually red in the manga unlike in the anime, also you can see how uraraka family is poor which make her the only one in class that is using a flip phone
Flip-phones are actually so common in japan, but yeah it def shows her as lower-working class
This was a really good episode. Uraraka has mad heart. There is a fierceness under all that sweetness
Mic and everybody being biased toward Bakugo rlly annoyed me. And the flashback too, everybody’s focusing on round face but nobody’s complimenting Bakugo on not underestimating her or anything and fighting seriously. Except for u Sam, glad u saw that he wasn’t insulting and going easy on her or anything

Why would they not be biased towards him? He is a favourite to win the competition, finished high in the previous rounds and is famous for his quirk. You as the viewer are supposed to believe that Uraraka has no chance so that when she is awesome it is more impactful. It's simple writing.
Mic was better than the rest imo, I found it funny how he was just ultra biased in a comedic way. Even though he was about to agree with the crowd since he preferred Uraraka, he wasn't immediately accusing Bakugou like they were.

It's actually kind of a joke in the Fandom that Bakugou's "stank face" is him purposely trying to distract from his attractiveness because he always looks so pretty when he's calm😅

This episode makes you want to say "Hey Endeavor, come listen to Uraraka's dad."
One small detail that often goes unnoticed by people is Ururaka's cell phone. Since her family is struggling with money, she only has a flip phone. It's a nice little detail to highlight her family's struggles.
One thing to point out that few do is that Bakugo was pushed to a limit by Uraraka in this fight, he had to go fully all out for that attack as if he didn't he'd have lost, the only real difference between the two in that fight was that Uraraka didn't have the endurance reserves that Bakugo did, IF she'd have trained her body as much as her Quirk for that instance it's more likely that this would've gone on longer - I still think he'd have won but it'd be far closer as the reserves Bakugo had would be getting thin.
And this is when I started shipping them-
Glad you saw the pros of both combatants here, as well as the emotional crushing force of Uraraka's dad and the utter badassery of Midoriya talking back to Endeavor. lol
Uraraka can't get one hit in, because that's all she needs to win. Bakugo has showed to have limited flight by using his quirk, but that's because he has gravity to help keep him stable. If Uraraka used her quirk on him he would still be able to propel himself, but he would have less resistance than he is used to and would likely fly around wildly. There would be a good chance he would bounce out of the ring. He understands this, which is why he had to keep blasting as he couldn't afford to get close enough to grab her.
A lot of people started shipping the two of them after this fight as its when Uraraka earned Bakugo's respect and he started calling her by name, something he largely doesn't do.
@ThePreator 11 That would be a fun fight I would like to see. Maybe if they ever have a rematch.
At least someone gets it, flying in 0G is pretty hard for bakugo to even do so touching him would give her a huge advantage

I know I’m late but when people see bakugou they think of only brawn bakugou is seen to be hella smart and is pretty good at physics and trajectory like in 9:02 he also knows computers rlly well and has high battle iq

Something to notice too is that Bakugou comments “close one”, because to him the fight was a close call due to quirk strain/if he didn’t react in time, but to Uraraka she thought it wasn’t close at all (she says when on the phone with her parents) due to how powerful his last blast was.
Imagine being in a tournament fight, and being judged for fighting seriously.
When she was on the ground she started reaching for, and crawling towards bakugo. And just that was enough for him to get back into a fighting stance. He really didnt underestimate her. She definitely isnt frail in his eyes.

Most everyone hates on bakugo fire going all out but I think it's proof how tough she is wave how serious he is. After all villains aren't gonna go easy on them so what good did training as if they would do? But Uraraka is the only character to push Bakugo to the point he meant blew up his own arm by igniting the sweat inside the glands.
Plus she's one of the few to earn his respect. Notice how he went from caning her round face to calling her by her name? He doesn't bother learning the names of those he doesn't feel are worth his time.

Yo, I know the fandom loves Bakugo, I too love his character arc and one thing I will always praise the author for is writing good broken characters making an effort but holy fuck people stop acting like he always was this misunderstood hero from the start, he literally told someone to kill themselves at the start of the series and was nothing but an asshole, abusive and spoiled brat. He was not a good person and thats the whole point, he is working towards being better but he was really far from good when he began his journey.
Same, i love his character arc so much that it bothers me people saying he was always good/misunderstood even from the beginning. He changed and became a better person over time but that doesn't rewrite his very problematic behavior from early on in the show.
@ThePreator 11 Bakugo is a good character over all, but certainly not a good person at the start of the seried. Also romanticising villains is a social problem we've had on fandoms for a while starting with the Joker/Harley relationship ending in Bakugo shippers, the fact that its popular doesnt mean its good as we already know.

and this chapter/episode gave birth to bakugou and uraraka as a ship. bakugou being practically the only showing her respect while everyone else is calling her frail and such is a great moment. its one shippers really latched onto
It was pretty much the only moment they respected each other, but afterwards, they barely talk to each other so it really didn’t make any sense.
@ThePreator 11 Bakugo and kirishima had a lot more interactions and had better chemistry then he and Uraraka. I don’t mind shipping, but there are those that take it to the extreme, even though it’s pretty obvious on the real canon ship soon.
@ThePreator 11 I’m not. lots of ships in many anime hardly make sense and yet I don’t mind. Besides the brief respect they have, I really don’t see the appeal of the 2, but if anyone else does, then more power to them.

I forgot the content, but I remember Katsuki got to watch Izuku come back for him (those two and Aizawa had to review it I think, Ochaco started the convo, and she said something too accurate to him but I forgot what! I just know it was way too perceptive and shocked him)
@@jasmine9581 I did see that it was more she talked to him about why can’t he put the past behind him and be nicer to Deku, but other than THAT, what else? Either way, they still respect each other in their own way but that’s pretty much it.
