I agree as I can seen them more than just gentle giant, as they deserved to fight back.
Frontier received all that criticism for not making It be able to fight back in JWE1,and now too.
They didn't learn much, although i do have to say this model is fantastic

Sauropods in this game need to be able to dish out the tremendous amount of damage appropriate for an animal of their size & bulk. Just because something is an herbivore doesn't mean that it's just going to do nothing if it feels like it's in danger. In fact, large herbivores tend to be even more likely to kill you than the predators they share their ecosystem with (ex: moose, bison, cape buffalo, domestic bulls, hippos, rhinos, elephants in musth or with a grudge, even giraffes and kangaroos).

Sauropods desperately need to be able to fight back. And herbivores are in sore need of proper kill animations. We had herbivore kill animations in the first game even if they were mostly basic so theres no reason we can't get some in JWE2

@@cezannejimenez7164 I didn't realize that but I think that still goes to show that they weren't entirely against the idea of having things on their tails, but thanks for the heads up regardless.
One thing I really like about the new Ankylodocus is that it now kinda looks like the Spinoraptor, in the sense that it could in my opinion very much pass as a real dinosaur. As others already pointed out, yeah, it kinda sucks that it still can't defend itself
I will never understand why Frontier adamantly refuses to allow sauropods and hadrosaurs to defend themselves against medium and large theropods. They can do it with pack-hunters, the massive stomp that sends them flying off and the bucking and kicking. They don't even need to fight, just have the sauropods have a 50% chance to tail whip a predator approaching from the rear that deals damage and makes the predator no hunt it again for several minutes, and if they approach from the front a neck swing for the long sauropods and the fence-kicking animation for the tall sauropods. The hadrosaurs can have a 50% chance to body slam a predator running alongside it and knock it to the ground while it escapes, and for the larger theropods that pack chase if one goes down one of the other two could continue the hunt.
All that said, I adore the glow-up for Ankylodocus, this is what it should have been in Evolution 1.
Because like most normies they think herbivores aren't able to defend themselves and are just weak canon fodder for carnivores.
The club we see in sauropods like Shunosaurus. So a Sauropod that evolved both osteriderms and a club tail isn't too far fetched.

I was really hoping it would be able to fight back.... Poor thing is a giant armored herbivore, but still gets folded like nothing :/
ANKYLODOCUS looks like the merging of Ampelosaurus + Shunosaurus had a baby the species definitely looks like the Fusion of those two, plus the head of Ankylosaurus.
Not making it fight its crazy, they didn't even do the bare minimum with this dlc

My favorite of the hybrid dinosaurs from the first JWE game ^^ I'm glad they're bringing these guys back.

Love the new model and glow feature, I do wish the colors emphasized the armor on the sides a bit
But most of all this REALLY should have been the turning point foe sauropods
Would have been awesome seeing the tail in action
For me this is definitely the best hybrid in the DLC but worst in terms of quality along with Stegoceratops due to lack of tail action
Still highly disappointed that there is no good update. I prefer they release a huge update instead of a species pack. Now God knows how long I have to wait for another possibility of a good update!

I feared they wouldn't make Ankylodocus fight, but I hoped Frontier wouldn't commit that huge mistake again... Ankylodocus NOT fighting back was it's bigger problem in the first game, even more then how it looked. They improved his apearance, but it still not fighting back makes it pointless...
Personally I like the redesign but 3 dinosaurs from the first game and a single new dinosaur doesn’t feel right.. the Spinoraptor was really popular, the Stegoceretops not as popular but the Ankylodocus was done dirty in Evolution 1
They should have made atleast 2/3 new dinosaurs and ported over the Spinoraptor and others before hand
I mean, This Ankylodocus might as well be a new dino
Hopefully they do an update later on where they add new kills and fights

The glow up is great, it looks so much better now! The old face still makes me laugh~
I don't really have a ton to say about this one, but that last animation is cute.
I actually really like the Ankylodocus now! It really does a nice job of blending the two species, and feels like one of the more sensible and plausible hybrids at this point. It's kind of cute. Yeah, this is a really beautiful redesign. Honestly one of my favorite hybrids now. It's makeover is honestly pretty amazing.
Putting my expectations aside, definetly one of if not the best Sauropod in the game but please give it fighting animations like you gave us Gigantoraptor hunting
Woulda been cool to have the first game's interpretation as a variant
It could go as a "armored" version of Shunosaurus since it had a "club" at the end of his tail
Or a Spinophorosaurus since that's probably more accurate of a size comparison since the Shunosaurus is even smaller than both.

@@cezannejimenez7164 Thanks for the correction, I had only taken a glance but it's still further proof that sauropods weren't against having things at the end of their tails, which is cool and I would like to see it more often in media.
So much better! Im almost shocked they had so much restraint, honestly. If there's an animal where you'd expect lots of spikes, it'd be this one. I do sorta wish that maybe there was a bit more spice to it, perhaps some really large, spiky osteoderms running down the sides of the tail or something. But beggars can't be choosers.
With how absolutely *GORGEOUS* Ankylodocus looks now (it's seriously up there as one of my favorite dinosaurs in the game without me even having access to it yet!), it's more disappointing than ever before that it can't fight back... I wanna see it smash an Indominus rex's skull in so very badly...

I'm very happy they're bringing back the hybrids, but especially ankylodocus. It was my favorite frontier original hybrid from the first game, and I always liked to use it as a stand-in for shunosaurus
I really wanted to like the old Ankylodocus because it's such a cool concept to hybridize but this version finally did it the justice it deserved! I must admit that this is probably the most even balance between both dinosaurs it stems from, compared to the rest of the hybrids not only in this DLC but in the game. You can clearly tell which 2 dinosaurs are involved and there's enough to work with from those dinosaurs, unlike the Spinoceratops which would be harder to hybridize beyond the "Sinoceratops but with a spine" aesthetic. Gotta be the biggest glow-up so far!
Have you noticed how its all cabot finch doing the voiceover? Like not a single one of Dr Wu's hybrids is actually described by BD Wong? Was he too expensive for frontier anymore or could they just not be arsed?

Ankylodocus could have been the GOAT of this DLC if were to able to fight back adding a whole new style to the Large Sauropods imagine this thing being the only sauropod that take out any Apex Predator With No Diff.

While I didn't dislike the previous design as much as many others do, this is definetly an improvement for the most part (there's a couple of things I would have retained but hey ho)
The one thing I don't like for sure is how its mouth only articualtes at the very tip of the snout rather than at the base of the jaw which is bizarre, it looks like a nutcracker

The lack of free update plus lack of new animations in the creatures plus no fighting for Anki on top of the survey for me means jwe3 is in the works. A shift is clearly happening we can only assume what to and its likely a jwe3.
I guess looking at these things as peculative, alien or even very retro dinosaurs does take the sting out of having fake dinosaurs in the game a little bit.
The Ankylodocus definitely reminds me of Toratons from The Future Is Wild.
But man, it's always disappointing when roster slots that could be given to even more real and interesting species are replaced with these.
Especially after banger after banger like the Utahraptor, Yutyrannus and Shonisaurus. I'm really hoping this isn't meant to be the grand finale to the game.

Is it just me or does this model really similar to the apatosaurus (in terms of shape, of course)? The overall bulkiness and especially that "arched" hip make me a little bit suspicious that they used the Apatosaurus model as a base to make this one. Although maybe I'm just being too paranoic, I can't tell
