Original video edited and remastered with HQ stereo sound.
"1 - 2 - 3" is a 1965 song recorded by American blue-eyed soul singer Len Barry, who also co-wrote it with John Madara and David White. The recording's chorus and accompaniment were arranged by Jimmy Wisner. The single was released in 1965 on the American Decca label. The writers were sued by Motown Records at the time, claiming that the song is a reworking of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "Ask Any Girl" released by The Supremes as the B-side to their single "Baby Love" the year before. They denied the claim, but after two years of litigation, agreed to give the Motown writers 15% of the song's writing and publishing royalties. Holland-Dozier-Holland are listed as co-authors by BMI.
The personnel on the original recording included Vinnie Bell, Bobby Eli, and Sal Ditroia on guitars; Joe Macho on bass; Artie Butler on percussion; Leon Huff on piano; Artie Kaplan on sax; Bill Tole and Roswell Rudd on trombones; Lee Morgan on trumpet; Fred Hubbard on clarinet; and Bobby Gregg on drums.
"1-2-3" reached number 2 in the US Billboard chart ("I Hear a Symphony" by The Supremes kept it from the number 1 spot). "1-2-3" also went to number 11 on the Billboard R&B chart. Overseas, the song peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. In addition, it was also a Top 10 hit in Ireland, where it went to number 8. It sold over one and three quarter million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

Yes it will.
Lead singer of the Dovels.
Damn right!
Forgot about this brilliant song!
Love it even in 2024 ❤
This song is eternal and the dancing in the video is the absolute 60"s perfection.
Love this song still playing it in 2024 never gets old 👏👏👏
1 - 2 - 3...ABSOLUTELY GREAT SONG !!! Great memories of the 1960s.
Long ago in a better place in time.. A Era & decade that will never be matched, Ever!!
AN era !! 🤦♂️
@@cascade3769 Ok gotcha 👌. Feel better now?
@@Himlee335Is English your second language?
@@cascade3769 what’s English?🤷
Exactly
His Tenor is breath-taking, wow, what an amazing singer!
Oh gosh, I heard this song playing in the book store today and had to race to youtube to find it again. Haven't heard it in ages!
Love this it was my mum's favourite & I have the 45 rpm x
I grew up as a young boy listening to these great songs, and now this song is one of the most evocative. So lucky to have grown up with this.
I can see why you reminisce this song, I would too but I came 8 years later😂
He just took something seemingly simple,or as he says elementary and made it into one of the greatest songs of the 1960's ever ,wow .
Not many songs actually sound great from the first beats , but this is an exception a true classic pop song from the greatest era in music the 60,s
Len was an extremely talented musician and I will always love this song!👍
Yeah it’s got that Stevie uptight vibe,Love that sound
These folks knew how to have a good time in the 60's!
This song makes me miss and long for a time I never even lived in. Truly spectacular
BRILLIANT Motown-esque single. Len Barry (born Leonard Borisoff; June 12, 1942 - November 5, 2020) was an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Passed away due to bone marrow cancer.
Awwwwe, thanks for the information. That's such sad news.I just felt like listening to this song, and I also didn't know he was white. I was listening to the Rascals and this song is in the same great era.
Ok, I'm 70 years old, have heard this song 500 times in my lifetime and until today, never knew this guy was White. WOWW LOL
Also the man who brought us "The Bristol Stomp" a few years ago.
Me, too! I’m also 70 and thought Len Barry was black!
It's crazy but that's why his nickname was Blue Eyed Soul.
@@peterostash Well he sure had me fooled lol
Oh my! Does it matter?
Thats how we all kept really fit back in the day, we danced our nights away just like this, it was so much fun ....great dance song too
BINGO!!! Always dancing, moving....great music--great memories.
I was 13 when this came out. It rose to the top of the charts quickly. It had a " Motown" feel to it and Motown was huge in the middle 1960s. You just knew this was destined to be a pop music classic that would always be remembered no matter how much time went by. On a side note this is a segment from the old Hullabaloo TV show. Hollywood A Go Go was what this segment was called each week. The top attraction of the show that week would appear in it. So Len made it to the top!
Good memories ❤❤❤
Just amazing, ground breaking as the inception of Blue Eyed Soul.
He also sang the original "Bristol Stomp." He planned to pay basketball but once sang in the army. The crowd was so excited, he changed careers.
This always reminds me of my Mother. She had the single. ♥
One of the greatest pop songs of all time. Just perfect. Len really had a strong voice. And that go-go dancer in the upper right - oh my!
Have loved this song since 1965 when I was in the 7th grade! Grade school days!
I have no idea why this song came into my head and why it won't leave today, lol. I remember it being the theme song for the Dolph Pulliam Show when I was a kid.
When I was a young kid in the 70's this song was always playing on the radio when I would go with my cousins to Arnold's Neck in Rhode Island. I spent some fun summers up there. I remember hearing this in Groton CT.
It was an oldie by then!
Absolutely Fantastic!*!!
Love this song!*!! 🎶🎤🎸🥁🎹🥰❤️💖💕
love this tune
He sang lead in the Dovells...heck of a group
Good looking man.
🇬🇧 I was one year old when this song was released. I first heard it when i went into what we here in the uk call 'big school' (high school), and my mam and dad let me go the disco at the local 'Youth club'. I instantly loved it, & to be honest i think thats the reason i love Motown & Soul music. I feel blessed that i was born when I was, so i could hear all these wonderful songs from yesteryear (50s & 60s), and then be old enough to hear the songs from the 70s 80s & 90s first hand. I think after the 90s, music (for me) went down hill.
Still the best music..
A timeless classic by Len Barry. from 1966 when I was 13. I always thought Len was black because it's so soulful!
...I was 16...but hadda wait years to hear it because mom &dad wouldn't allow 'that kind of music' in the house...enjoy the hell out of it now...
Exactly thought he was a black American singer, the layers and richness of his voice , he was wow .
I did too until I saw this video....not that it matters 😂
I was 15 and a sophomore in high school. I ❤ This song. Brings back so many memories. Easy to listen to and sing along. ( in which I just did ) RIP Len Berry. You had a great voice. ❤
Sadden by the news of Len Berry's passing! I love this song!
Great song! Great memories!
1-2-3, I’m STILL dropping in, Barry,
Hope you can hear that,
Love xx

Great Guy! Knew him very well. Played BB with him. The Great DJ Hy Lit was his brother in law. His parents were all class and elegant. Dad named Joe, Mom Bernice
Timeless song!. this song is immortal 👍🎶
Still have the 45.💓💓💓
This tune always did & now at 66 still make my body shimmy n shake.
I grew up with fantastic music 🎵
Love this, great song!!!
An era marked by simplicity and enjoyable living. Shared by hard work paying off for life long endeavors. " A little went a long way "
We still carried pocket change because it meant something.
The saying ; " Can u spare a dime "
Got u a cup of coffee!
Now it's " Got a dollar : Won't even buy a cup of coffee.
GREAT DANCERS ON THIS SHOW.
Great song. Takes me back to when I was at Junior school.
What a great record this is!
Great memories….1966.
Remembering the great Norwich Dj Howard Platt, (rip) spinning this on the decks at the old Melody Rooms along with many other great sounds, Motown, Reggae, and rare soul at the beginning of the 70s, great memories,
Magnificent song!
len barry, greatness!
great remember……………😊😊😊
Love it 🥰 😊
Thank you very much for this very beautiful song. It remains me a girl in the 60' who was supposed to be my wife but it never happened. That's life.
Yes, a simpler time but what a terrific song.
The dude was handsome. Wowzer😊
GREAT song and GREAT quality!
I loved this song!!!!
I agree this song will never fail to get your feet tapping we were so lucky in the 60s to have so many foot tapping songs that will never die👍
Philadelphia in my opinion has had some of the Best Blue Eyed Soul Singers. Him, Hall & Oates, The Group Daryl Hall was in when he was starting out called the Temptones, named after Temple University, Vickie Sue Robinson, and Karen Young (RIP) to both. He got sued because they felt that the melody was too similar to Ask Any Girl (The B Side Baby Love).
Great song ! It does have that longevity effect, simplicity, innocence & beautiful lyrics.🙂
True music
Great song the memories I have I was 8 when this came unforgettable could never get it out of my head what a tenor Voice and like myself former Coast Guardsman thank you for your Talent and Service rest in Peace just found out he passed

You are so welcome John.
This was released in 1965. I was born in 1972. But was introduced to this tune in 1996 when it was featured in the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus.
I was 1984 but Mr. Holland brought me here too. 👍🏼
I was born in 74 but I learned about this record from my parents, they kept the stereo on a lot growing up
They really were going for that Motown sound with this one. But it does sound awesome, can’t deny that one bit.
Always loved this song, even though i was only a small child who loved music 🎶 ❤ 😊
Loved love this song a little teary eyed I was 8 unforgettable rest in Peace Len Barry
I was born the year after this song came out and I love this song. It’s just sexy as hell.
What a song a legend
Love, I wish it was that easy
Cool song that came out in 1965 when I was starting high school. Great year for music and one of my favorite teenage years. Love seeing those Foxy Go Go Dancers. Some were really going wild dancing 🤪
Great memories for sure!
I was 5 when this was out. But even then i knew a great song when i heard it
As an artist ,if this was his only song and that of the writer that wrote it, production, the band everyone involved, it's enough, truly one of the greatest songs ever.
I admire the mens dress suits back then. Its sleek. The narrow ties. Narrow pants and pin point dress shoes. 👌
I had no idea he was from Philly. I had this 45rpm when I was a kid in the UK.
Good old days back then.
I remember that song well.
And Northern California redwoods.
Along the Russian River.
Horseback or riding bicycle.
What transistor radios.
Damn good days music that had meanings to.
Yes there was the other parts of the world that works so good and I'm sure you know what I'm talking about..
Now I live 2500 mi from there.
East.😞😌🤷🏽♂️😊😎🙋🏽♂️❤📟🎥📺🎷🎸🎺🎻🥁☎️🎹✏📝
