Nice video, Ken. I actually like your longer videos, personally. I know you average under 10 mins. but I think you should take your time... That's part of what makes it relaxing... If it's too long for people they can always fast forward. But anyway, I hope this video encourages the folks who are "on the fence" to commit to wet shaving. I'm certainly glad I did! It's been probably 4 years now... A really enjoyable experience and "addicting" like you say... But that's okay, it's a positive addiction...haha... Actually it's really just a hobby. Some (most) people don't understand how wet shaving could be a hobby... But there's a lot worse things to spend your money and time on. Thanks Ken!

I just did my second shave ever using the van der hagen razor with the personna blades. It went well. Thank you ken surfs for recommending the personna blades. U are right, they are very mild. I got cut in two spots on my neck. Not too bad for a virgin shaver. I am enjoying using the brush with the shave soap. Looking forward to buying different ones. Ken, good video. Just felt like adding that basically what is different about safety razors is that the head is fixed. On cartridge razors the head pivots. This means that with safety razors you do need to pay more attention to the angle and generally you need to learn not to put pressure on the razor. You could use shaving brushes and soaps with any type of razor. You don't have to use a brush in order to use a safety razor, but it is worth mentioning that a lot of the canned shave gels or foams do contain more chemicals compared to some shaving soaps and creams, and as you mentioned the brush will help getting the soap worked better into the whiskers.
I haven't shaved since the beginning of the stay at home order for Covid-19. It was truly starting to drive me nuts. I decided to treat myself after seeing this video. Dear Sir I would like to thank you from my heart for reminding me , something precious to me that I had forgotten. My dad had a Gillette Slim 1965 model ( I found recently what model it was ) and I wanted to shave my self as a child and he also used to remove the blade from the razor and put some foam in my cheek and let me rub my cheek with it . Thank you again for bringing back a lost , but now found memory . Athens Greece .
Ken ... I was surfing looking for the original Old Spice that my deceased husband wore as I miss that smell on him ... but soon found out that once buying .. it doesn't smell like what he used . I'm 70 years old and I guess they have changed things since when he wore it . I just want to say however that that is how I ran across your TH-cam shows and found you very entertaining and knowledgeable on the subject of all and found myself watching several of your shows . After ordering Old Spice original on ebay , I found that this particular bottle didn't smell at all and now will not do that again ... hahah ... but I want to say that I enjoy the history and knowledge you share and wish continued success ! BTW ...has anyone ever told you that you look and sound like Alan Harper on Two and a Half Men ? To me ... you sure do ... haha . Love your videos ... glad you admitted to having your lovely wife and daughter help you with the smells of the different after shaves ... hahaha ! I to remember not only my deceased husband using Old Spice but also my daddy ... again .. keep up the videos !
Hi, yes it has changed, my grandfather used it daily, i do like the new smell but i can remember the original, it was very spicy and sweet. You can find them on ebay under vintage old spice.
Thank you, sir, for this inspirational and to the point video. As a kid I remember watching grandpa shave. No fifty Yesrs later I bought my first brush and two blade shaver. This video makes me want to learn more and try out New different products.
Great shave tutorial! And a great shave! I'm a relative beginner to DE shaving, but am enjoying and getting the hang of it more each day. Thanks again, Tyrone
Feather blade holders have a slot on the bottom for spent blades. A little trick I learned after a while of trying to figure out how to dispose of used blades.
Thanks Ken for the video. I'm just starting to research and think about putting down the electric. Your video was a good start and will be watching more of yours.
I subscribed to your channel I’m 54 years old male so got tired of using electric shavers and 3 razors or five. I bought the Henson medium th purple one and will be using it Saturday for the first time and bought the Viking sandlewood shaving cream. So hopefully I will get a better shave but like your videos they have good info.
I started exploring more traditional wet shaving when an embarrassing error prompted me to up my game. I bought the King C Gillette DE Safety Razor as a starter (still need the rest of the kit and goodies), but already, I can say that using a safety razor is not only a lot nicer feeling on the skin, but how much more concentration you need throughout is a therapeutic, head-clearing pleasure. I merely just went to clean up my stubble and ended up feeling so relaxed and ready for bed. Lovely!
By far, the most informative and useful video I've ever seen. And that bathroom...get out. It looks like the last bastion of maleness left in America. I'm heading out for some Brut and a DE now. Thanks, Ken!
Great place to start for the beginner shaving enthusiast.. I like how you mentioned the father and son moment of your youth...that's what it's all about!
Paul H's approach is more philosophical and your approach is more practical. The Tutorials compliment each other. Have no fear there was no copying; intentional or otherwise. A newbie to wet shaving would be well served to watch both. Very well done!
Excellent work Ken.. I have a Merkur 33c on the way, and my dear old Dad years ago gave me a nice pure bristle brush.. by the weekend I hope to join the group.. I've enjoyed the videos! I'm into fountain pens and there are so many similarities between the two interest areas. Common theme is that when you buy a nice one you have it for life and you look forward to using it each day. Thank you for this great work! Frank from Boulder, Colorado
I'm going to switch to safety razors, brush and soap. The waste created by shaving cream cans and cartridges is insane! I can shave like a lumberjack, save money and help save our planet.
Ken. I like your style and your unbiased, unfiltered videos. I just purchased a Baili Butterfly Safety Razor with Blades, a Muisco Badger brush and stand and some Proraso Shaving Soap + Bowl. I really excited to get started. In your next video can you talk about the “gap” and what adjustments are for which hair length? Thanks, from Texas!
I came here for tips on a how to use the brush and got sucked into the 30 minute video. I'm in my 40's and never even considered lathering back up for a second pass. That's an awesome tip, thanks for doing the video!

I had a friend recommend me to try a safety razor and i got one off Amazon and GOD!! I love how it feels! And i can see where he comes from with it being a hobby. It’s therapeutic to take the time to shave old school and have such a smooth face afterwards. 😎

Donna Lucas Thanks Donna, I have heard that I sound like Alan..lol also Bob Ross and Mister Rogers 😀😀
Excellent. Thank you for watching and for commenting👍💈
Great shave tutorial! And a great shave! I'm a relative beginner to DE shaving, but am enjoying and getting the hang of it more each day. Thanks again, Tyrone
Tyrone Quinn Thank you very much👍👍
I greatly appreciate this, I surf the pier all the time and a huge fan of 007
Tyson gongloff Awesome Tyson👍👍💈
You sir are a good man. Great video
Thank you👍💈
My new internet dad....great video for beginners.
Feather blade holders have a slot on the bottom for spent blades. A little trick I learned after a while of trying to figure out how to dispose of used blades.
👍👍
Thanks Ken for the video. I'm just starting to research and think about putting down the electric. Your video was a good start and will be watching more of yours.
👍💈💈💈
I subscribed to your channel I’m 54 years old male so got tired of using electric shavers and 3 razors or five. I bought the Henson medium th purple one and will be using it Saturday for the first time and bought the Viking sandlewood shaving cream. So hopefully I will get a better shave but like your videos they have good info.
Thank you very much👍👍
I started exploring more traditional wet shaving when an embarrassing error prompted me to up my game. Lovely!

All in all lots of information and a great shave video
John Anderson Thanks John👍💈

I still provide this link to new or aspiring wet shavers. Still great info. Thanks Ken!
Excellent content and production. Well done Sir.
You, Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
Wow, what s great video, Ken. To the point, yet very detailed. A beginners WetShaving video, could not get any better!
David Coyote Thank you very much David 👍👍
I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad for me. But honestly Ken, I never grew up having a dad. So you showed me a lot about shaving. Thanks Ken 👊🏼
Thanks Kensurfs. Have recently joined the wet shave community. Keep the videos coming! Richard (UK)
👍👍
Only a few weeks wet shaving and this video helped a lot. Thank you very much Ken!
Great tutorial! Particularly the choice of adjustable razors 😅!
Thanks! 👍
Very informative. Especially the shaving part. I'm going to try your advices. Thanks a lot.

By far, the most informative and useful video I've ever seen. And that bathroom...get out. It looks like the last bastion of maleness left in America. I'm heading out for some Brut and a DE now. Thanks, Ken!
Thank you
I like the Personna blades. Very nice video with lots of great information.
Paul McWilliams Thank you Paul👍💈
Very informative 👍🏽 i just bought a safety razor and of coarse had to get into wet shaving and don’t know anything about it.
Great place to start for the beginner shaving enthusiast.. I like how you mentioned the father and son moment of your youth...that's what it's all about!
Hi Ken. Very well done. One of the best introductions to wet shaving I`ve ever seen.
Brian B. Thank you very much Brian, sorry it ran so long 👍👍
Great job as always Ken. Very good information for the beginner. Hope the Mrs. is making a speedy recovery.
Jason Thanks Jason, she is doing much better👍👍
Paul H's approach is more philosophical and your approach is more practical. The Tutorials compliment each other. Have no fear there was no copying; intentional or otherwise. A newbie to wet shaving would be well served to watch both.
Very well done!
WolfRanger2008 Thank you very much 👍👍💈💈
Excellent work Ken..
Frank Bruno Thank you Frank👍💈
I'm going to switch to safety razors, brush and soap. The waste created by shaving cream cans and cartridges is insane!
I can shave like a lumberjack, save money and help save our planet.
Good decision 😁👍
I've always used olive oil as a pre-shave oil - great lubricant and good for the skin too.
Cool tip
Thanks for a great helpful video. Well done.
Honestly that’s the best way to put it; wet shaving makes it fun
Thank you👍👍💈
Kensurfs Quick update. So, I purchased a Merkur Futur and wow. Just wow. That is all. Haha 😂
Nucky Thompson teaching me how to shave. Brilliant stuff!
👍👍💈
I came here for tips on a how to use the brush and got sucked into the 30 minute video. I'm in my 40's and never even considered lathering back up for a second pass. That's an awesome tip, thanks for doing the video!
Once of the most informative and relaxing shaving videos that I have seen. Wow! Time to start shaving
I am so grateful and thankful for all of your excellent information, i could listen to you talk probably about anything for hours lol. Thank you for this stellar top notch informative and educational video.
Honestly, this was really enjoyable. Getting into straight razor shaving myself and trying to educate myself on the process. Absolutely love your video and appreciation for a hobby. Thanks so much.
I’m really late to watching this video, but I have to say this is one of the most comprehensive videos on beginning in wet shaving, I’ve only been wet shaving for about 4 months and you gave me a lot of info that I didn’t know, not to mention you’ve made a 30 minute video effortless to watch, thank you ken, you’re a good soul
Hi! It's your first video I watch on TH-cam, and man, so happy to see an Omega brush! I use a big Omega 48 , just like my father does. His brush is more than 40 years old, and still proudly does its job every day :) you just brought back so many memories! Greetings from Italy!
I had a friend recommend me to try a safety razor and i got one off Amazon and GOD!! I love how it feels! And i can see where he comes from with it being a hobby. It’s therapeutic to take the time to shave old school and have such a smooth face afterwards. 😎
Matthew Prior Very good Matt👍💈
A very complete, and concise presentation, Ken. Your approach was an even keel, all inclusive instruction that encompasses all levels of shavers. I enjoyed it.
Alex De Leon Thank you very much Alex👍👍💈💈
I have just started to use a double edge razor because of your videos, i love watching, you are very knowledgeable but explain everything very clearly. Keep on making great content, and thankyou
This video is amazing.Thank you sir.

Good video Ken with a lot of very worthwhile information for someone new to wet shaving.
Tim Omick Thanks Tim 👍👍
Great video Ken, when I started wetshaving little over 1,5 years ago, I watched Geofatboy in the start and learned alot, but after a short while I did find your channel and have been a huge fan since then.
Patrik Lanzen Thank you👍💈💈💈😀😀
