    Man that toy is outstanding and impressive, at my 71 years of age I always was amazed on how those engines been that old and run way smother than many fuel injected engines with so simpler technology, most kind of you for sharing it with us, blessings to you and your love ones, enjoy your toy, please make the best of it, from the endless summer paradise Puerto Rico Jesus Torres.

    There is nothing like a flat head, sounds and looks are beyond compare.

    I had a 38 Ford pick (85 hp) up in 8th grade -12th. After more than 40 years, I still miss it. That distributor was awful to deal with in wet weather, but the torque at such low rpm was amazing.

    Wow! no other engine sounds as good as an original flathead.Thanks for posting. Hope you restore the old girl.

    The blow by was /is very common with a flat head,as long as it is as mild as we see in the video it’s tolerable,it’s when it starts to really build up then there are problems .Its indicates that the oil rings are worn ,and the compression rings are also going.there was a replacement for the crankcase breather cap that had a flexible t7be that extended

    Tube that extended about 12 inches and put the fumes into the slip stream below the motor..It didn’t solve the problem but made driving a little more tolerable. Still love those flat heads.

    I’m about to have some friends around to witness my flatheads first start up in 20 plus but I’m going to start it up before I have them over to make sure everything is ok . I think most people do it

    flathead engines to tend to let a lot of vapor through the crankcase breather and road tube, especially when they're heated up, give it a compression check to see if you do in fact have a weak cylinder. if it runs and idles smoothly, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    That was maybe the second start, but it is very doubtful that this was the first start.

      I’ve had more than one start like that if they didn’t get any rain in the head. It’s surprising how manure just needed points cleaned a condenser and maybe a coil.

      Manure. Don’t you like autocorrect.

      You’ve got to prime it.

    This may be a known thing but I'm new to flatheads and so I was wondering if they are supposed to smoke that much out of the crankcase? Mine smokes as much as yours and I am concerned that it might not just be hot oil gases but rather excessive blowby or ?

    • @ddkoda
      @ddkoda 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be blow by. A compression test may help to narrow down your problem. If you have a low reading on one of more cylinders you could try to squirt some oil into the combustion chamber of the cylinder in question and test that same cylinder once again. If the new reading is considerably improved there's a good chance the oil that was squirted into the combustion chamber may have temporarily provided a better seal. This would be an indication that your rings may be in need of replacement.

      austinwagoncompany notorious for broken rings smoked .normal in day .generators got cooked vapor lock fuel pump &rod probs.front distributor. vulnerable in rain .a v12 in Lincoln zefyr seen in some rods .

    • @waynemitchell1543
      @waynemitchell1543 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of a smoke must have been from oil squirted down the spark plug ports if you notice you can see you in the heads where the oil has run down the heads

    • @SLOROB55
      @SLOROB55 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waynemitchell1543 didn’t think of this. Yes, I’d oil the pistons on an engine that had been sitting.

    Started too easy for an engine which has sat for 30yrs and ran and idled just fine.

    • @SLOROB55
      @SLOROB55 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was protected from weather it might start that easy. Polish the points, give it fresh fuel and prime the carb.
