I was fortunate enough to see Death on the Patterns tour with Chuck, Steve, Ralph, and Gene. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Several years later, I was fortunate again to be in a band that opened for Testament on their Gathering tour in 99’, and got to meet and hang with all those guys, super nice dudes all of them.
Digorgio is one of those guys that continues to inspire myself and so many others with his precise yet instinctive playing style. RIP Roger Patterson and Sean Malone.
I have been into death since scream bloody gore, each album was a whole new animal. Individual Thought Patterns is my go to album for the bass playing, still blows me away to this day. I would love to get blazed with Steve!

Then a couple.years later I saw him with Death to All, and he was amazing with both a three string and five string fretless bass. and he talked to the crowd and made us all feel like we were personal friends. such a class act

Steve is a genuinely cool ass dude. Around about 2003 I played at a show headlined by Sadus, my band was support. I had no idea who they were, or Steve, anything at all about them (I hate admitting that, but I didn't like death metal at the time... I was an idiot, you'll see though lol). When he pulled up to the venue, a hole in Concord, Ca called Bourbon St (lol), he jumped out of the truck, all ready to go, blonde hair flowing, and I announced loudly: *_"Look at this Chad Kroger looking mother fucker!"_* One of the single most embarrassing moments of my life is having to eat crow as a bassist supporting Sadus lmao. He was an absolute sweetheart about the whole thing too, immediately accepted my sincere and profuse apologies after the show. Seriously one of the coolest dudes alive imho.
Steve and Sean. The greatest rhythm section ever in this style of music. Unbelievable. I also got to see Death on the Individual tour in San Francisco in 1993. Steve was playing a 4 string fretless. It was amazing. And, how awesome would it have been if Steve had joined Megadeth!
I smoked a joint laced with coke in a alley in Pittsburgh with him. Dude was drinking liquor straight out of a bottle. I think he was playing with testament that night but I can't really remember it was so many years ago but he signed my Human CD

Awesome interview.... as a life long Death mega fan, first album "Spritual Healing" when I was a teenager. There was loads of new and never heard before information Steve talked about and I'm super appreciative. Just turned 50 and I still wear my Death plain black print red t-shirt with pride and occasionally people ask me about it and I fill them in about Death metal \m/ \m/ Death metal lives on forever!

Human is my favorite album because I loved death metal but never heard anything at that level in death metal and was completely blown away. Saw DTA a few weeks ago in Atlanta. It was great and I enjoyed seeing and hearing those songs in person again. I had seen Death on the Symbolic tour and the TSOP tour in ATL at the masquerade in 98. I think that show was the last Death show. Great interview Steve

I learned really cool stuff I didn’t know about before. Props to Steve for being so genuine open & thorough here. He didn’t have to be, but right place @ the right time I guess. Just had this interview in my recommendations and so glad I got to listen to it! Steve is badass bassist (I even downloaded the Dark Hall EP) and his playing on ALL the albums he's played on. I dig the fact he mentions Sean (Reinert's) influences: Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl -two of so many of my all time favorite drummers. Excellent interview.

Chick and crew made some unbelievable albums. I picked up on them w Spiritual Healing. Gene Hoglan is an absolutely monster between writing songs and playing his setup. Richard Christie is a top ten drummer and do great stepping into Genes shoes. I always called Death the “Led Zepplin” of death metal

Man what a great interview! I remember buying Fiend for Blood at the record store, already had Mental Funeral so I was already an Autopsy fan, I must've been like 14. I was not ready for those bass parts, I'd never heard any bass be so expressive within death metal framework before, let alone a fretless. Loved hearing what Steve had to say, and in such a casual comfortable setting too. Well done!
My fav death album is leprosy, still listen to it more than anything other album, maybe because I was 18 and its fixed into moving in to being an adult. But that and spiritual healing are the only ones i still listen to. Have the others but they dont invoke the same feelings. thanks for this interview it was great.
I was ..I am honored to say I became a friend of Chuck's. KISS ARMY ...he was a wonderful person. He gave me some .... recordings that are so special. When his Mom sent me his Memorial video tape....I knew he REALLY cared.. Btw, he knew I was transgender..... didn't care. When Paul and Gene heard the cover of God of Thunder and when they told him how much they really loved it and expressed their anger and disappointment that the record company refused to use it.....they fought for it, but it showed just how the enemy they were to Polygram/Mercury (until the make up returned). That KISS MY ASS tribute album could have easily an 8 LP set (From Death, Megadeth, Poison to Public Enemy and every grunge band (note every grunge band used... essentially ripped off the sound and style off Hotter Than Hell and called it grunge). Chuck was soo happy he cried, just the acknowledgement from his heros was the most important to him. I was also an intern at Nuclear Blast America. The day they were notified that he had cancer....I will not tell the story, but it gives a CLEAR EYE OPENING OR REMINDER IT'S CALLED "MUSIC BUSINESS" or Dusty Rhodes Florida Championship wrestling "Bidness." Chuck was reading "Running Free" Iron Maiden while he passed away.
It is wonderful to think Chuck was so cool with you. I'm trans (quiet about it, a lot of times) but some of my heroes have still been so kind to me... Love this.
such a good time just listening to Steve go thru the old days, how things evolved at the time. saw him play here in mesa in DTA a couple months back. never got to see Death live, but DTA was damn near the real deal. Steve is such a BAMF.
This is such a great interview! Love Steve and his musical abilities 🤘 Such a humble dude, just like Chuck. I never met Steve, but I did get to meet Chuck back in 1995 at the original Peabody's down under in Cleveland Ohio. Symbolic had just come out. They played awesome!!! It sounded great, and after the show... A buddy of ours interviewed Chuck in a magazine that he worked for. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. Mike Heck, you remember? Anyway, the band ended up, upstairs of the old place which is NOT there now if you know your history, but getting to hang out with the band was the best hour and a half of my life. Hearing Chuck talk about life... It's something I will never forget. Everyone was partying and eating lasagna and smoking weed.. LOL, I'll never forget it! But I have an autographed flyer from that gig that I have laminated. I wish I could show everybody a picture of it. It was an unforgettable night and I cherish it daily. 🤘 R. I. P. Chuck Schuldiner

Steve harris is good but he is also the reason the rest get overlooked who had more shown abilities with the instrument at the same time as harris.

When Paul and Gene heard the cover of God of Thunder and when they told him how much they really loved it and expressed their anger and disappointment that the record company refused to use it.....they fought for it, but it showed just how the enemy they were to Polygram/Mercury (until the make up returned). That KISS MY ASS tribute album could have easily an 8 LP set (From Death, Megadeth, Poison to Public Enemy and every grunge band (note every grunge band used... essentially ripped off the sound and style off Hotter Than Hell and called it grunge). Chuck was soo happy he cried, just the acknowledgement from his heros was the most important to him. I was also an intern at Nuclear Blast America. The day they were notified that he had cancer....I will not tell the story, but it gives a CLEAR EYE OPENING OR REMINDER IT'S CALLED "MUSIC BUSINESS" or Dusty Rhodes Florida Championship wrestling "Bidness." Chuck was reading "Running Free" Iron Maiden while he passed away.
It is wonderful to think Chuck was so cool with you. I'm trans (quiet about it, a lot of times) but some of my heroes have still been so kind to me... Love this.

such a good time just listening to Steve go thru the old days, how things evolved at the time. saw him play here in mesa in DTA a couple months back. never got to see Death live, but DTA was damn near the real deal. Steve is such a BAMF.

Such a humble dude, just like Chuck. I never met Steve, but I did get to meet Chuck back in 1995 at the original Peabody's down under in Cleveland Ohio.

A buddy of ours interviewed Chuck in a magazine that he worked for. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called. Mike Heck, you remember?
Anyway, the band ended up, upstairs of the old place which is NOT there now if you know your history, but getting to hang out with the band was the best hour and a half of my life. Hearing Chuck talk about life... It's something I will never forget. Everyone was partying and eating lasagna and smoking weed.. LOL, I'll never forget it!
But I have an autographed flyer from that gig that I have laminated.
I wish I could show everybody a picture of it.
It was an unforgettable night and I cherish it daily.
