General Motors was up front and STATED features NOT available at time of delivery AND will be added to YOUR CAR once the chips are available
and they made "dummy" modules to install and replace the modules they are NOT including
and now are fitting the ADVERTISED features as the modules are available NOW
GM is NOT a corporate "good citizen" by a country mile and THEY can do it correctly
JBC could have bean "upfront" and sold a version advertised differently and say call it the "basic" and nocked $9 from the price and make the original perma back order/ sold out till the original spec chips are in stock again
they "win" as they do NOT have to "fix" sold products AND zero reputation hit OR post sale consumer support over this issue
consumer does NOT lose as they BOUGHT a lower feature version BUT received that they paid for

This is the sad part. So few people used these features that being honest about it would've done so little damage. Lying and bsing about it when you sell the most expensive tool in the industry does far worse.

That's really disappointing to hear. I have a DDE-1C in storage from 2018. Recently I ordered a third cartridge stand from them.
If you think the station is overpriced, the stand is a block of cast iron and costs at least 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the DDE-1C. It was packaged really poorly and insecurely compared to the first two I ordered several years prior. It came fresh from JBC and was actually damaged. I got it exchanged but the retailer came back and told me the replacement that came in was also damaged so they returned my money and cancelled the order. I did send a message to JBC it was not acceptable to skimp on packaging for something at that price point. Literally thrown into a box with long bundle of kraft paper loosely looped (looped in 2 dimensions, not wrapped) around it for padding. Just utterly unacceptable. It used to be form fitted foam or form fitting cardboard seats in the box.

A some who does computer/electric repair since I was a teen and built my first PC in 1997 at the age of 10, any time I made a mistake with a customer's item, whether I damaged it, didn't fully fix the issue, etc, I always made it right at MY cost including the time needed to make it right. You'd be surprised at the number of people who would recommend me just because I was honest when I screwed up. Mistakes happen. How you respond to that mistake tells a lot about your character and your morals and ethics. As someone who has been screwed and ripped off by other repair shops I vowed never to do that to someone else. My parents always taught me to treat others as I want them to treat me.

I learned something, you can put an Arduino inside a hot air rework station along with a mono LCD and charge an extra $500USD, lie about it having ' features' and add more and not be held accountable. I learned that you can ' forget ' to order SRAM ICs to store profiles and get away with it. I learned that with my simple Arduino IDE level of programming skills I could design a better controller, have it use all the listed features of the several thousand dollar hot air rework station and use the same motor controller boards found in the 50+ Arduino Projects kits to control the hot air fan and temperatures with as fine precision and potentially open source the whole thing.

They should be using chips that never go out of stock, like old Microchip PICs or Espressif ESPs. All of industry relying on STM32s was the real problem, same for all hobbyists relying on AVRs. RP2040s are looking decent for supply capability, though personally I think these CH32Vs are looking appealing. The CH32V003 is cheaper than an ATtiny and has the specs of an ATmega, while the V203 is cheaper than an ATmega and has the specs of a pi pico. Programming tool chain looks decent, which is important. Supply capability is still up in the air, looks more available from their official store on Ali than their LCSC listing, for now.

I will NEVER buy a Ford again after how they treated me over a warranty repair. My engine blew at 64,000 miles. I pulled it off the side of the road, and it got a little tiny bit of mud up the side of the wheel well. Had it towed in to the dealership I got it at (where I also did ALL my service!), to use my extended warranty - only to have the guy come out and yell at me that it wasn’t covered. According to this “genius” I was “off roading” my vehicle and I owed them $3500 for a new engine. I assured them I never did such a thing and they called me a liar, made a big deal over this literal LINE of mud in the wheel well, and told me to get my car off their lot if I wasn’t going to have them fix it. After a week of nothing but stress, and no car - I ended up calling Ford themselves (above the dealership), and a guy drove down from Detroit personally 👉🏻 and told him they were idiots for accusing me of off roading, and told them to fix my vehicle under warranty. They way they acted you would have thought it came out of their pockets personally! They lost me as a customer from that day forward!!!

I own a JBC station (although not a DDEC), and I regarded JBC very highly. Using the iron you really do notice a big quality difference and for their regular soldering irons, they are much nicer than some of the competition (such as Weller). Extremely disappointing to see this behaviour. It will definitely reconsider the purchase of their equipment in the future. If you pay an A class price, you expect A class service and a company that takes responsibility for their mishaps.
I suppose they changed and are now riding on brand name trying to maximize profits. The exact behavior that costed Weller the market here in Europe. They dominated the solder iron market, but lack of innovation, sky high prices and drops in quality caused them to now become (in my eyes) B grade.
I figured they must have cheaped out a bit, as their packaging is also the 'pseudo enviro friendly' kind, which often enough translates to piss-poor and cheaped out on.

It's always companies with the most money that feel like they're immortal when doing these horrible practices. They'll just add a deceptive TOS clause, use doublefaced language, then collect their money and churn the investor machine at the expense of end users.
Just had this same thing happen with my relatives, with one of them having a perpetual Office 19 license. It's called perpetual, but because the product was already "activated" on their own PC they had to reinstall Windows on, the activation key is now useless. The license is "perpetual only on that PC." Which is a great way to say that you rent it for as long as that device works.
Billy G. gets his fat sack of cash to do whatever he wants, and rather than fight it, my relative is not privy to alternatives (like the obvious Libre Office), so of course, Bill's exact prediction of customer response will come true:
"I'll just go down to the store later to buy another one."
I hate to even suggest that Microsoft could get rid of that Office licensing setup at any given moment just like Adobe did with their software.

I can put generic insolation silver tape to protect the caps but i am concerned it's not enough. I practiced on a scrap board with my 861DW and the tape did seem to protect the cap but the yellow glue that held it to the board (capacitor is mounted layed down on its side) burned and made a brown hard poodle ! Funniest and saddest thing at once is… the stuff they have in their flash can be cleaned up and the features reinstated. Their code density isn’t great and it’d take some minor rework of the source code and linker scripts to make it better. The smaller flash should fit everything and the language overlays. You just have to apply a bit of thinking to it. JBC all you need for a fix is some brains and a firmware update.

Rossmann: they claimed it was only going to affect languages
Letter Rossmann quotes: less used functionalities *such as* languages.
That is not a claim that it only affected language, that's a claim that it only affects less used functionalities, with language given as an example among multiple functions.
Your statement about only language is either not reading the letter well enough or dishonesty about what it claims. At least in regards to the portion shown.

Hi, Louis you probably won't see this, but I figured I'd ask anyway. I want to set up a station for drone borne instrumentation controlled by Arduinos. As an aspiring amateur, what is your recommendation for equipment such as soldering stations?

    • @ChristopherGoggans
      @ChristopherGoggans ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not Louis but personally I'd snag one of the clone compatible T12 stations or one of the generic stations compatible with the JBC C245 cartridges. Either option would work well. There's several revisions of the T12 style stations and some handpieces that are better than others, so do your homework. I have a clone T12 and am very happy with it's performance, though I might consider one of the C245 style systems if I were looking now. They weren't really common, and the prices have come down a lot in the last couple of years. Regardless, good luck, and I wish you well with it!

I'm going to tell you something Louis, you know what they say about clichés, that they are jokes that are not true, well sometimes they are true.
In Spain there is Galicia, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, Navarra, Catalonia, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla y Leon, La Rioja, Extremadura, Valencia, La Rioja, Murcia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and surely I left some autonomous communities, it seems incredible in a relatively small country like Spain.
Well now let's go back to the clichés of the Galicians, it is said that if you meet them on a staircase you never know if they are going up or down.
Do you know what Catalans are famous for in the rest of Spain? Well, because they are stingy and petty, there are many jokes about that, it is a cliché, but sometimes the clichés turn out to be true and I am telling you that I am Catalan.
JBC's prices are not due to the cost of developing their products, it is pure greed, JBC is a Catalan company that must now be in its fifth generation, they already have it in their DNA

Please do a video talking about Microsoft buying out nearly all of the gaming market, I think they own something crazy like 80-90% of it now.
Tonight they made the bold decision to make it so that users can no longer login to the $100 game Call of Duty without linking their personal phone number, of course so the game is "fair safe and fun for everyone"

I don't mean for this to come off as abrasive but could you look into something like a pop filter or post production sound editing for the mouth noises or whatever you want to call the lip noises? They are especially obvious at the beginning of your videos(for a really good example, the HP video from a few days ago). I know that most people don't seem to mind, but it makes it very difficult to watch the videos. Sorry if this came off as rude in any way.

I don't know when I've ever even heard of the most expensive of ANYTHING being the best. Usually it's just bragging rights. That said, shame on JBC for not being up front about changes to their specifications. A lot of very mission critical applications requiring certifications out the wazoo are relying on a so-called top notch vendor to be technically sound. This stupid blunder could have and still may put companies at risk for un-knowingly violating certification requirements with the likes of NASA, Boing, the military, etc. Ask Fluke what they did during the chip shortage.

When you make a quality product your reputation will spread and you can trade on your name. People will have a nice cult like religious feeling about your brand. Then you can trade on your name and save money by dropping the quality. Usual cycle and the groupies will defend your brand to kingdom come without any prompting.

The channel tecnonauta are coveringnthis issue. You own nothing seem to be infecting avery aspect of our thech.
