Honestly Demi Lovato was the first artist that I found when I was a teenager who showed that she was human and had mental health issues. When they leaked photos of her cutting and then she wrote skyscraper after getting out of the mental hospital that changed my life and let me know that I wasn't alone and that people can have issues and still be successful and/or famous. It meant alot to me to see that she had some of the same issues as me and was still a badass amazing artist.
clicked on this video not thinking I'd watch all of it but I just realised I finished the whole documentary and all I can say say is Demi I am so inspired by you
Keep in mind that all of this was filmed and produced before the overdose. Which ultimately means she relapsed. Please check on your friends no matter how “great” they seem on the exterior.
but you know, relapse IS part of the recovery. even when you are surrounded by the right people (which wasn't demi's case, that's true), if you relapse it doesn't necessarily mean everything was a fail or that everything is going wrong ♥
@@apolline9910 you know? i was in rehab before, when i have 18. And now i stay here in a bad possition again...and maybe it's something i have to do for understend many other's things. Maybe i have to relapse again to learn a lesson again. Maybe all of us have to fall to learn.
Man. She's got so much to be grateful for that so many people would want to trade places with her considering her early success, talent, wealth, fame, recognition...etc
The scariest part is ONE relapse can kill you. I'm not an addict. I'm a daughter, sister, cousin, and wife to addicts. We've seen several overdoses and deaths, and its so hard to see it all happening, and be completely fucking helpless to stop it. Sending love and hugs to everyone who struggles with this disease, and/or loves someone who does 💜
Lilly Cali The thing is that people don’t realize that celebrities are human and deal with the same problems as those who aren’t in the limelight. And sometimes the attention that comes with being in the limelight can exacerbate any issues they have. Just look at how Disney handled her
I love that she isn’t afraid to put herself out there. That’s part of what makes her better than the best in my opinion. Not even her weaknesses hold her down before she makes a comeback. She is really inspiring. Thank you for sharing!
Why do i rewatch this every once in a while with out getting enough of it. Edit: 2 years later rewatching over and over and over again. P.S.: wow thanks for the likes
In her documentary "Loneliness is brutal", in her song lonely "now I'm f*cking lonely", in her song sober " it's only when I'm lonely, just hold me I'm lonely". ( the signs were there.)
I can't help at noticing that she wanted to be like Amy Winehouse, and seeing Amy's documentary you see how Demi could've ended up like her if it wasn't for all the support she had and Amy didn't. It shows how important it is to know what people you choose to be surrounded by, they have to have ethics and they have to love you and believe in you. I'm so happy for Demi, never stop trying
Melani Rodriguez wow, Melani. That's such a good observeration....Amy was also beautiful and talented and the same age as Demi when she also got into drugs in a serious way. And yet her story ended so differently and it sucks. :( I totally didn't realize that their lives have such similarities but different endings.
Melani Rodriguez I see what you’re saying and I mostly agree but my brother struggles with alcohol and drug problems too. He has ALL the support from all of his family and friends, that hasn’t been enough for him to sober up. So I give a lot of credit to Demi’s strength and will - that is the key. You can’t help anyone if they don’t want to help themselves, unfortunately... 😊
I saw this documentary and thought the sign was going to pop up and ask me if I wanted to buy TH-cam Premium....Thank you, thank you for making this available to all of us! It is courageous of Demi Lovato to show us this private side of her life and her experiences. Edit time- I had to edit because WOW! Demi is a new woman and we're so privileged to be a part of this journey. You look so unbelievably confident and comfortable in your skin.
i watched her on disney not knowing any of this was going on and now i see the reality, it breaks my heart. i came back again to see this. she's so strong and i could never.
A suicide petition?? I was bullied mercilessly in school and even I never had to deal with that shit. This woman is amazing, not just for what she has done but for the battles that she has fought and is still fighting.
I read somewhere that she was actually the bully in school from someone who went to school with her. Do you really think she was being bullied as they were filming camp rock?? Doesn’t add up she was 13 when camp rock came out she’s a liar.
I was bullied at young at age too. I recall the bullies making posters on stopping bullying and that pissed me off. I’m glad that actual victims of bullying are fighting.
I remember reading a teen mag when I was young and she had cuts on her wrists and they said it was from her bracelets and that's when I started to realize demi was dealing with bad issues.
theokay lamp I remember that magazine too!! It had like a headline like “is Demi cutting” and then the more you read it it said that she was just wearing tight bracelets all the time and that’s what was causing them
Perfectionism is something I can relate to. If I had any singing talent like she does I’d be the same way… Do it over and over again until it was perfect. Unfortunately, people like us are at risk for drug addiction to find relief to not care so much and relax. Huge props to Demi.
I sing and have sang publicly and literally had people confused because I hit a note wrong and I walked off the stage lol and people were like "why did you get off the stage that was amazing???" So yep I dont even know how she does concerts.
Anyone else coming back to watch this the day of her being hospitalized from a heroine overdose? Hope you get better demi, we love you so much! Stay strong, and I hope you get sober again! ❤️
Victoria Nash through out the video she want people to think she’s a bad bitch she’s always saying don’t fuck with me , etc I tell you stuff how they are. But inside she’s weak. And insecure.
I hope Demi knows how much of an impact she has sharing her story with the world. A world filled with millions who are or have struggled with the same addictions and demons. For us, to hear someone of such fame who has access to almost whatever in life imaginable.. it makes us feel less alone, less of a minace to society, and unserstood more with such a big voice speaking out to the world.
@@tycobb2580 if you look into it it's obvious that she in fact was sober during the time this came out and kinda fell off around her 6th year anniversary, either before or after, april at the latest. this documentary was the year before that.
Is it just me or did anyone else feel as though they should give Demi a hug after watching this. She’s had it real hard, literally felt her pain. Cried throughout this video
Seeing them mention her sleeping and the angle of her being so close and saying it was love at first sight when she was 17 with Wilmur in the context of dancing with the devil is unnerving
It’s crazy that all these 2000’s era Disney actors and actresses were put through all of this at such a young age. It’s mind boggling that 14 year olds had to deal with all of this stuff publicly. I’m glad that all of these stars have gotten help and become the awesome people they are today.
Lovatic Hiddlestoner Yeah, the really sad thing that I believe is that had she been just a few years older and had worked for the company at a time where it wasn’t all about teenyboppers I don’t think it would have escalated as far as it did. She still would have struggled naturally with her background but had she been working for the company just a few years prior I don’t think it would have escalated as far.
Ronny S She's talking about Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga made a business deal with Netflix so she could make money off of her documentary. When fans tried to post videos of it and share it, she took the videos down and had their account flagged. Yet Demi released her documentary for free with no desire to make money off of it. It just goes to show how she actually cares about her fans and wants to help them. She's so kind and genuine and doesn't care about the money.
I cried almost the entire documentary, I was so in love with Demi Lovato when I was young and had somewhat an idea she was struggling but I had no fucking idea it was this bad. What a strong, beautiful, woman. I will always look up to Demi Lovato, she has made me want to recover and be better. This was so wonderful
i would recommend watching her more recent doc "dancing with the devil". it's a more accurate representation of what she was going through during this time
2 years sober from a heroin addiction, dealing with food issues and just got out of an 8 year relationship. I FEEL YOU GIRL. and thank you. thank you thank you thank you.
Allison schild I'm so proud of you babe! Never go back to that old habit, I'm 3 years sober from cocaine, xanax, marijuana, molly, and alcohol. It's hard, but it's all worth it in the end. #StayStrong
I heard she overdosed today on social media and I felt the need to watch this documentary to understand her story behind everything , she’s so strong and she’s been through so much, I truly hope she gets better and have that same strength
My math teacher during my junior year in highschool once told the class, "you can't get help unless you want to help yourself first. Otherwise you'll always be stuck where you're at." So if she's getting sober for everyone else, not herself, it explains why she keeps relapsing. She's just not ready to get sober for herself.
When she said she still loves wilmer she sounded so nervous and i feel like THAT IS TRUE LOVE. I love your whole story and you i think you the only singer thats have been so true to yourself and to us and i love that
I’m not a Demi Lovato fan, but this documentary made me realize that she’s one of the few artists that are truly honest about their past and admitting to it. I’m happy that she is recovering and still is. She has earned my respect.
i thought they said she wasn’t going to release this one. so crazy so much was going. and sad that people are tired of hearing her talk about it. this is an endless battle& no other celebs are being as honest/vulnerable as her. she can talk about it all she wants. no ones making you watch it. proud of her
andera calderon this isn’t the one they were talking about, this came out in fall of 2017. The one they said they weren’t & didn’t release (other then the clips showed in her 2021 Docu series), is the one filmed on her TMYLM Tour in 2018. which was originally meant to a sequel to this one.
The comments on her official video for Dancing With The Devil had people commenting that they all wished she would stop talking about her struggles and because she is very much an open and honest person, she will not stop speaking about this and I think that is the best thing ever.
I am speechless. She’s been through the trenches of life. Then struggled to get sober, to fix her life. The amount of dedication we witness from her story is INSANE. It’s incredible ..oh my god. This makes me even more of a fan.
Shoutout to Demi and her team for puting this on youtube and not on netflix, youtube red or apple music, it shows that what she really wanted was for people to see what she went through rather than a pay check.
looking at DWTD, it’s crazy how controlling they were but looking back here SPECIFICALLY to her drug use, it looks like they did it in her best interest.
@@emilyakalbun5540 did I not say SPECIFICALLY towards her drug use? 🤔 as in making sure she was sober, deleting the phone numbers, & even making sure the people around her were sober.
The fact that there are multiple documentaries about her endless need to tell the world about how she is the victim of absolutely everything ever is really sad.
That’s what I was thinking throughout the whole thing is her comment about the new one coming where she said “the last long documentary I was on cocaine the whole time so I had anxiety thinking about filming this sober”
She's honestly surrounded by all the wrong people. Her entourage is nothing but a bunch of partiers and people that just cheer her bad choices on. She needs new friends.
i thought brave was running into a burning building to pull ppl to safety with out fanfare was brave and heroic, but i guess im wrong, its a girl whining about girl things
Finally watched this in 2020 and it makes me sad to have the knowledge of her overdose and relapse with drugs/alcohol shortly after all of this. She looked like she was happy and doing well. Just goes to show how much of a never ending journey mental health is. Love you and wish you the best, Demi 💕
Unfortunately, her team ended up making her eating disorder worse by controlling her food. And she said in an interview that she would work out for hours and hours a day. :( Like she wasn't allowed to have a cake, she would get watermelon for her birthday. But luckily she has a new team that seems to be doing better, especially now she's engaged!
@@TheFriendlyFlower yes i saw that interview with Ellen. Such a terrible move by her team! So glad she's free of them and in a better place in her happiness right now.

As a person who suffers from Bipolar and trauma, this was touching. Never resonated or empathized with a documentary this deeply in a while. Listened to a few of her songs growing up in school but never understood her background. Very brave soul.

I hope she gets over her demons, or learns to live with them without them taking over. It looks like she's a great person, and she still has a lot to give to this world. This goes to all addicts, it's not easy, but I'm sure it can be done.
Gio Flores :relapsing is apart of recovery. You don’t just automatically recover without relapsing. Recovering from addiction isn’t easy. Plus she was 6 years sober before she relapsed. So Demi was in still recovery back when she had a relapse.
You are such an incredible person to be vulnerable in telling your story . I'm so proud of you . My youngest daughter is 11 and going through a little of what you went through, having no friends and she gets social anxiety and feels like she is a burden to other kids so she doesn't want to interrupt anyone. I constantly tell her she is so smart and beautiful and try to get her to talk to other kids but she's very shy . I didn't know if you have any advice to help me show her how amazing she is . I think that her biggest issue is no relationship with her father. After 8 yrs he decided that he doesn't have a bond with her . So he doesn't want to see her . It breaks my heart ❤
She really should not see him ever again !!! Not even insist her !!! She doesn’t need negativity and if she wants to be alone she should be alone ^^ recomendation is love her as she is !! No need to change her … and get therapy as mother and for her too ^^
Sorry to disagree, perfect of just being your age not acting to be something your not. Lots of kids do that. you have to accept yourself, but parents have a big role to this, this is why society is going bad because kids are choosing their life not their parents.
@@lisalee8075 I'm not sure if you meant to say "kids do not choose their lives, but choose their parents' instead. If you didnt, it isn't why society is rotting. Parents shouldnt choose anybody's way of life. It's unfair because kids hate being told what to do, and that is why most of our kids becomes rogue. To prove their ability to think on their own, or some sort of independence
@@Das644 what i mean is that the parents have a big role. From letting the kid do whatever they want won't make him learn the limits or better yet consequences. Society is so granted to have siple things that in other country would be fary tail, my point is that the more simple the life of the child is the less complex it will get for the child in the future. Reality is accepting who you; are pretty or ugly, you are you, no one else could be you. Knowing your weaknesses and knowing things other don't know , make you wiser and trust me no can beat that. There is a saying the better man is better till the weaker man say let him do it. So, only you can stop this bad people. And the only way you will have confidence if parents build it in a young age.
This is just my humble but I believe I know this sounds oblivious but the reason why she is on drugs because of the pressure of the entertainment industry like instead just appreciating her talents they want more and more from her taking a tole from her.
@@jesusburgos1255 yes it is specially at young age, thats why she needed her parents the most. The music industry is not easy, specifically if you are ambitious. Overall parents play a big role, they didn't give her the strong fundation. By that i mean to be confident of who she is, no matter what the world may say, which is hard to do. But im glad she is realizing that now and i hope she stay strong ^^

Man we'd be the worst detectives in the world. The signs were right in front of our noses.

I'm sad to hear that. All I have to say is stay strong and hopefully things get better for her a few years down the line
She really should not see him ever again !!! Not even insist her !!! She doesn’t need negativity and if she wants to be alone she should be alone ^^ recomendation is love her as she is !! No need to change her … and get therapy as mother and for her too ^^
Disney is always pressuring kids to be this perfect role model and its just impossible

"Who did you piss off that you gotta sleep with one eye open?" Absolutely screaming! Love you so much Demi
I love to get to know a girl for digital marriage
The first half hour looks like a documentary about a dead artist, like she is the one that actually fought trough everything and its still here, so proud.
Talia Da Silva *through
...and yes, I know I'm a dickhead.
Anyone here from 2024?
I use to be obsessed with Demi when I was like 12... I'm now 20. I don't know why I stopped listening to her. I just fell in love with her all over again. What a genuine, strong, beautiful soul. Wow. Why am I sobbing?????
Lol same
Honestly same

Only thing I hate about this documentary is that it’s only 1 hour and 18 minutes! I want more Demi!😍
Just about to start this. Taking a much needed sick day from work and this looks great. 💜
We want more films like that , I honestly cried while the movie and i am upset because no one deserve treatment like yours 💗 i am proud to be simply complicated too 💖💖💖💖💖

More Complicated coming soon
It’s so crazy how someone who I idolized when I was a kid was going through so much.. how I thought her life was perfect but like they say everyone has their own struggles,
I still love you Demi and that won’t ever change
TheJesseGuerra lmao @ you for thinking that people are actually gonna follow your IG. Also, stop trying to pretend to be insightful.
TheJesseGuerra you are so unloved that you need to shit on other people lol
Sofia Murillo that’s what everyone wants you to think until they crush it. Every famous person has mental issues.
Same
Sofia Murillo same! I actually saw Demi along with the Jonas Brothers on the Camp Rock tour when I was in 2nd grade. I remember when it was announced that Demi was getting professional help and even then I didn’t really understand since I was so young. I still love Demi Lovato to this day, but it’s just so weird how I viewed her as this perfect being back in her Disney days who I desperately wanted to be like
Ok, I started this at 1:17 am as I sat with my d.o.c in hand, not aware of what this documentary on Demi was about. By the end of it, I threw my doc out an flushed it down. I suffer bi-polar and social anxiety. I suffer with addiction and codependancy issues. I felt like she was almost telling MY story.
Inspiring and empowering. Thank you for sharing this with the world . And with me.
