I know a lot about Japanese culture (because I love Okami), so I just googled what the Chinese equivalents of things I recognized (similar to Kitsune and Origami) were.
I am so tired of "they are not rings" yes they fucking are rings. Bracelets are fucking rings. A ring is a circular band. Bracelets are circular bands, hence bracelets are rings. Rings arent just jewelry.
Also "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Bracelets" just doesn't have the same rhythm to it, it doesn't roll as nicely. It kind of sounds like it would be a good parody if the MCU was based off of like a group of high school and junior high kids more than the actual movie.
I'm pretty sure they just wanted to differentiate the rings from the infinity stones and that turning them into bracelets was a convenient way to tie them into chinese culture. Remember that the rings are ancient alien artifacts so it could be argued that the training rings originated from the ten rings.

Also a few other quick things 1. jeremy refers to bamboo as trees 2. Jeremy seems to think that the path to Ta Lo is helping them when in actuality they are following a path that has already been set 3. Jeremy finds it weird that they are trying to kill Shang-Chi in the bus when later his father says he basically challenged them to kill him and finally, it really isn't as dumb as people are making it out to be that the blip is always mentioned, that is an insanely massive event in the MCU also its still not too long after everyone came back. Think about how ubiquitous something like 9/11 was and how its still talked about alot even 20 years later. This movie is probably about a year or two after the blip and the blip was so much worse
Indeed, and like 9/11, the blip has far-reaching repercussions, as touched up in _Spider-man: Far From Home_ with May's charity drive for re-homing those returned and the Flag-smashers' motivations in _Falcon and the Winter Soldier._ Indeed, I recon Disney+ could do a whole series of stories about ordinary people dealing with it.
i think the reason they mention the blip a lot is because they’re trying to convey how much of an impact it had on everyone, half the world gone for 5 years i don’t think is something people would stop talking about for a while
I’d like to also point out that regarding Jeremy’s ridiculous sin of the moving bamboo forest to conceal the path to a mystical village that this is part of a LEGEND. It’s not uncommon for legends and myths to have downright fantastic things that can happen. For example: There is an angel named Hadraniel that is 2.1 MILLION MILES in height, yet he guards a gate of Heaven. There is also another angel described as having a height so vast it would take five centuries to reach the top of. (And I’m not making that up. Angels are weird and so are demons.) And we certainly cannot forget the absurdity of every single mythology in the world, especially with the origins of some creatures, aspects of nature or reality itself, or deities. To give an example of THAT: Aphrodite was formed from the castrated genitals of Uranus after they were thrown into the sea. And Achilles died from an arrow in his heel, somewhere on the body that’s not normally fatal to us normal humans but because Achilles was held by that particular part of his body as a baby when he was dunked in a river in Greece by a nymph, that became his weak spot. Point is, if Jeremy is going to criticize legends and myths he needs to do some research on them instead of sounding like an ignorant prick about it. I knew Jeremy would sin the magical creatures.
The river's name was styx and it flows on the boundary between the earth and the underworld. And the nymph that dipped Achilles in it was his mother. Makes it even more ridiculous :D
3:47 If I had the time, and could stomach watching that many CinemaSins videos back to back, I'd go through the videos and make a counter for how many times Jeremy sins something magical in a movie for not following real-world logic. It's happened so many times that I'm genuinely unsure if he even knows what the word "magic" means
LOL! I'm doing the same thing! Been binging his videos for the past few days and LOVE them! He covers pretty much everything that frustrates me about CinemaSins. I really like their channel but they do piss me off with all the personal attacks and stupid "sins" that have nothing to do with the movie. Jeremy's imaginary girlfriend causes more sins than any of the actors. 🙄
My favorite thing about this movie was the fact there was no romantic tension between the male leads and female leads. A fact that flew straight over Jeremy’s walnut sized head as he still addresses Awkwafina as Shang’s girlfriend.
he also "sinned" natasha and clint's friendship over 10 years because they "didnt hook up" because there is no such thing as male and female friendships in jeremy's small brain...not only is that comic accurate , its also very common as my best friend of near 30 years is a female and we never thought of nor gotten together even the years we were both single its actually a good thing the mcu and other media platforms are not doing the "male/female best friends become lovers" trope
I think you phrased that the wrong way around, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language and culture is distinct in a way that people aren't necessarily. One probably couldn't tell the difference between a Chinese person and a North Korean who lived very near the border; but you can tell in a glance the difference between Korean and Chinese writing. Like, I agree with the spirit of what you said re Jeremy's ignorance but the phrasing struck me as the opposite.
I can picture him constantly asking questions about every little thing that’s either already explained, easy to figure out, or unimportant. - Why were only these characters pulled in with the spell? - Why did the spell start pulling people in? - Why doesn’t strange use this memory wipe spell all the time? - Why aren’t all the villains explaining where they were taken from? - Why doesn’t Peter become affected by the spell? - Are the other universes affected by the final spell? - How is Ned able to make portals without any midichlorians? (Because of course he would make that joke) - Why didn’t Peter’s spider sense react to Norman the entire time? - Why is the spider sense so inconsistent? - Why are they trying to cure the villains? - etc
This is easily one of the best MCU movies. It's gorgeous, the fights feel intense as you can feel the weight behind each attack and it has given us a brand new powerful and interesting hero. Best MCU origin film, maybe second only to Iron Man
@@gabehere I wish Klaue or N'jaka had been the villain of BP. Former was more entertaining, latter was more sympathetic. Instead we got another mirror match villain and his deal is "Lets start a race war cuz I'm mad my dad died"
I really liked it, but was disappointed at the super CGI fight at the end. I loved the fight choreography so it sucked when the big fight was mostly all cg, but i still liked the mandarin fight there. I wouldve highly preferred if it was all martial arts with some of the magic, like the rings were cool to see being used and the moms fighting was nice.
One guy, an M4 and half a dozen hand grenades committing a coup d'etat on Carlamagne's court sounds like a _MUCH_ better movie idea than the copypasta of one american military base vs. one legion of Romans
The point about Wenwu vs Shang-Chi having same power fights just undercuts the emotion in the scene. The fight is very grounded, the stakes are more emotional rather than the save the world stakes that happen 15 minutes later in the film. This is about Shang-Chi helping his father realize that the love of his life is gone and he was being manipulated by not Fing Fang Foom
Bruce: *doesn't have Carol's number* Jeremy: "None of the Avengers have each other's phone number" That's one person. Not having one other person's number.

I will say, I think what the Doofus keeps trying to say with the "Same vs Same" is two dudes of the same skillset. What does Black Panther look like when fighting against someone like Hawkeye, or Iron Man going up against Mandarin. While I feel they should be equal-ish, I wanna see two dudes going at it with different skillsets
I would like to say when I first watched this video and hear them speaking in mandarin, I was actually caught off guard, and amazed of this choice. They went fully into the culture of this film and I love it. Also Jeremy should have at least a sin or two calling bamboos as trees, they are actually grass or a type of herb.
Let's not forget that a ring is simply a circle. It doesn't necessarily mean a piece of jewelry that fits on your finger. Technically, a hula hoop can be a ring.
a small thing I really appreciated in your video; I appreciate the fact that you opted to refer to the character as 'Shaun' rather than other vids butchering the pronunciation of Shang Chi and when it came to characters that didn't have an English name, I could tell you were putting in effort to pronounce things as accurately as you can (big ups for the actual 'Y' in Yip Man). Keep up the good work man! Cheers~

The Warlord in Iron Man 1 also wore those kind of rings, and his faction had Ten Rings banners all over the place. Guess the organisation's got good branding.
Also, the Legend of the Ten Rings _has_ been referenced in previous Marvel movies. Literally the first MCU movie ever, Iron Man, has Tony Stark kidnapped by the Ten Rings organization (or at least a group claiming to be the Ten Rings).

Also the flashback of getting hit with sticks for training isn't just about raising pain tolerance, it's also bone conditioning. When you practice taking impacts like punching a board or kicking a log or getting hit with sticks, micro fractures form in your bones and cause them to heal back harder and denser.
Not that I want to make a habit of defending Cinimasins, but I think what Jeremy is trying (and failing) to say is that he wants more incomparables in movies, where the villains and heroes have totally different powersets from each other, as opposed to the "mirror match" style fights we usually see. Not that we don't get those already, he just wants more of them.

Shang-Chi is, without a doubt, the best Marvel film to date. The CGI is GREAT (by Marvel standards), the fight scenes are some of the best in any movie I've seen, the small bits of comedy are good, Trevor is fantastic, and the relationships between the characters and their motivations are so believable and sympathetic. 10/10 movie, honestly.
I might be a Christian, but I kinda have to agree some statements are hypocritical. His Christian mother on the other hand is the exact definition of hypocritical and entitled. So, yeah. *Atheist Also, from the stand-up that is Patton Oswalt: "You’ve gotta respect everyone’s beliefs." No, you don’t. That’s what gets us in trouble. I acknowledge that you believe that, that’s great, but I’m not going to respect it. I have an Uncle that believes he saw Sasquatch. We do not believe him, nor do we respect him!
I never understood why people who think this way think that god would make a whole demographic just to put them in hell. Of course, the most common response to that is "it's a choice", which is just plain denial for the sake of propaganda.
The problem there is that the Bible actually backs up the jackass mom's point of view and not yours. That's the fault of the Bible, not you, but it does beg the question of why you'd claim adherence to a religion when you think (correctly) that your own morality supersedes its own.

Hold up did he call the Ten Rings "The Halo Infinites?" wtf does that mean. They're the Halo Rings. Halo Infinite is just the name of the latest game in the series.
I'm pretty sure it's just a joke about the ten rings not looking like how they did in comics. But knowing Jeremy it's probably just him constantly stating that they don't look like the kind of rings you were on your fingers even though they clearly resemble the large rings used in hung gar kung fu.
If Marvel wanted to, they could pull some "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and make more than one set of "Ten Rings". "Ten Ring" Staff, "Ten Ring" Blade, A "Ten Ring" Shield a la The First Avenger. "Ten Ring" Coins for someone, like _X-Men First Class Magneto._
As a mythology nut, I was livid when Jeremy called the fox spirit a "peacock fox." Well, at least it's better than my friend who thought it was a Pokemon. Quick question: feel free to counter this, but I had a personal sin for this movie. Xialing claims leaving Shang-Chi to fight was to let him know "how it feels." Okay, but you also left Katy, who can't fight and who you explicitly said you liked, to die as well. How am I supposed to feel anything but hatred for her after that?
She didn't leave Katy. She trusted that Shang-Chi would be able to defend her and she also remained close-by, however hidden, in case Katy got in trouble. Which, when she did, she was there to rescue her. Of course, she couldn't have made Shang-Chi feel how it feels to be left if she was visibly present for Katy. Also there is no reason to feel hatred for her even if she left Katy. Shang-Chi was the one who brought her. Xialing would be risking her own life if she tried to save Katy, for someone she just met. Just because she is a good fighter doesn't mean she has to go out of her way to save everyone who ended up in places they shouldn't have been in.
@@alex1stamford779 Good point, although if she did remain out of sight she took her sweet time. The Ten Rings got a few good swings in, causing Katy to sing to distract them. Xialing didn't step in until she fell off the scaffolding. Maybe hatred is a strong word, but it's harder for me to sympathize with or like a character when they act like a jackass to someone for no reason. ie claiming you like someone before leaving them to assassins. Then again, considering the post credits ending, maybe Marvel's trying to build her up as the next major terrorist villain. Little snippets to show she isn't as sympathetic as she seems
I just wanted to delve deeper into what you said about equally balanced opponents. Well put, by the way. The equally powerful weapons proves that a character has grown because they can defeat their enemy with no variables except their pureness of heart and character development. This is why it's even better when the villain is more powerful because it shows that what the character has learned about themselves and about life is much stronger than even a generally perceived "most powerful person ever" or something like that.
Honestly I prefer the way mcu did the ten rings, the things the dad did with them were so fucking badass to the point i want to see more of him than shang chi

3:41 also Zeus actually uses a gun that shoots lightning, I’m simplifying it as it’s a device/weapon crafted for him by the hundred handers that depending on the translation shots or let’s him harness the power of lighting, Poseidon got the trident (that oddly didn’t have anything to do with the sea) a weapon that can cause earthquakes and hades got an invisibility helm (I kinda think Hades got ripped off or if they are made up the writer ran out of imagination) so the idea of hero’s villains and gods possessing items that give them powers isn’t that unheard off. Disclaimer I say that if the Greek gods are made up because I don’t really know, they probably are but I have no Proof for or against I’ve never meet them but I’ve also never meet a Alien but surely we can’t be the only life in the whole universe.

Indeed, and like 9/11, the blip has far-reaching repercussions, as touched up in _Spider-man: Far From Home_ with May's charity drive for re-homing those returned and the Flag-smashers' motivations in _Falcon and the Winter Soldier._
Indeed, I recon Disney+ could do a whole series of stories about ordinary people dealing with it.
One of my favourite intros of yours, ever. Kudos, Birdman. This is exactly why I love your channel so much. Keep it up, man.
Facts. He always kills it with his videos, from beginning to end.
right?! that shit was cooooooold!!!
i think the reason they mention the blip a lot is because they’re trying to convey how much of an impact it had on everyone, half the world gone for 5 years i don’t think is something people would stop talking about for a while
I mean , people gonna talk about covid for ages and ages and that wasn't half the planet and people didn't unfortunately come back.
Angels are weird and so are demons.)
And we certainly cannot forget the absurdity of every single mythology in the world, especially with the origins of some creatures, aspects of nature or reality itself, or deities.
Wakanda. Nuff said. Then again, Jerry criticized Black Panther.

I'm sure he does, but it's something that pads the runtime
Well if cinema sins applied a concept called "suspension of disbelief" most of their videos wouldn't be more than one minute
Same but for the "exposition" Vs "what the hell is going on" sins
Magic in my eyes is only bound by rule of cool if it’s something people like Jeremy would call bullshit
Hell yeah I’m excited for this one bro found your channel the other day and binged all your eww cinemasins, keep it up !!
Your timeline is impossible
What's your favourite one in his EWW library?
The “other day” is too arbitrary to establish a timeline.
My favorite thing about this movie was the fact there was no romantic tension between the male leads and female leads. A fact that flew straight over Jeremy’s walnut sized head as he still addresses Awkwafina as Shang’s girlfriend.
he also "sinned" natasha and clint's friendship over 10 years because they "didnt hook up" because there is no such thing as male and female friendships in jeremy's small brain...not only is that comic accurate , its also very common as my best friend of near 30 years is a female and we never thought of nor gotten together even the years we were both single
its actually a good thing the mcu and other media platforms are not doing the "male/female best friends become lovers" trope
@@Chuck_EL but if Clint & Natasha hooked up in the MCU, then it would've been comic accurate.
Jeremy is definitely that dude who can't tell the difference between Chinese, Japanese and Korean people. Let alone their language or culture.
To be fair me either
I think you phrased that the wrong way around, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language and culture is distinct in a way that people aren't necessarily. One probably couldn't tell the difference between a Chinese person and a North Korean who lived very near the border; but you can tell in a glance the difference between Korean and Chinese writing.
Like, I agree with the spirit of what you said re Jeremy's ignorance but the phrasing struck me as the opposite.
I am both curious and nervous to what Cinemasins will do for No Way Home.
Whatever they do, Birdman will give them literal infinite sins for doing so.
(Because of course he would make that joke)
- Why didn’t Peter’s spider sense react to Norman the entire time?
- Why is the spider sense so inconsistent?
- Why are they trying to cure the villains?
- etc
I can guarantee at least two "audience applause break" sins

This is easily one of the best MCU movies. It's gorgeous, the fights feel intense as you can feel the weight behind each attack and it has given us a brand new powerful and interesting hero. Best MCU origin film, maybe second only to Iron Man
Personally, I feel the best character in it was Wenwu. Unfortunately he then died.
@@MurasakiTsukimaru as per usual with Marvel's good villains, lmao. Klawe, Thanos, Ultron, etc. They just love to kill them off, but oh well.
@@gabehere I wish Klaue or N'jaka had been the villain of BP. Former was more entertaining, latter was more sympathetic. Instead we got another mirror match villain and his deal is "Lets start a race war cuz I'm mad my dad died"
For me the movie was close to s-rank in the context of the mcu. Unfortunately, the dragon and weird monster fight brought it way down
I really liked it, but was disappointed at the super CGI fight at the end.
Hell yeah, I would pay to see that
How about a Japanese self defence army marching into a low fantasy world and fire rockets at dragons?
@@TheDapperDragon didn’t say it was good
Can we take a minute to appreciate the thumbnails for these videos? Like, they are actually top tier
Bruce: *doesn't have Carol's number*
Jeremy: "None of the Avengers have each other's phone number"
That's one person. Not having one other person's number.
Jeremy clearly missed the ten rings in Guardians of the Galaxy because it required him to read.
8:14 holy shit, did he really just call people stupid for a cultural leaving offerings to the loved one's grave and finding meaning in it...surprised you didn't call it out.
Like cinemasins vs birdman two diffrent skillsets. Cinemasins being a weakling
@@lightningspeedextreme2913 absolutely
I’ve never clicked on a Birdman video this fast in my life. I’ve been waiting for this video with absolute excitement.
Cheers~

15:04 Trevor Slattery's Mandarin also wore ten rings similar to those worn in the comics, but of course they didn't do anything.
The Warlord in Iron Man 1 also wore those kind of rings, and his faction had Ten Rings banners all over the place. Guess the organisation's got good branding.
I think it was a theme thing😅
Also, the Legend of the Ten Rings _has_ been referenced in previous Marvel movies. Literally the first MCU movie ever, Iron Man, has Tony Stark kidnapped by the Ten Rings organization (or at least a group claiming to be the Ten Rings).
I think the group in Iron-Man 1 is a subgroup that operates in the Middle East. While the one in Iron-Man 3 is fake (as was revealed in that movie)
On the point of Cinemasins’ engagement, they’ve released 10 videos in the past month, but only one broke a million views. Most of their videos are under 10% engagement lately. And that isn’t a new trend.
LOVED this video AND Shang-Chi. So glad you made this cuz I ALSO had the same problems w CinemaSins' "sinning". They just doing it cuz they can now and MUST especially when the movie is new and booming and they try'na get in on the action lol.
Aside for being just a good movie I will always have a special place for it in my heart, spent a loooot of a small pay check on a birthday date with my girlfriend. First movie I seen in theatres with her and it was one of the best times of my life
Congratulations dude :^)
Thank you for clearing up the difference between Chinese and Japanese
So what I've seen out of this is that Jeremy is just racist. Or thinks being racist is funny. Which it isn't even once in this case.
as a black man this is why most of us dont like these obsessed "woke" liberals like jeremy because as my late uncle said "you give them a noose, wait around long enough and they'll just hang themselves"
I think that would be interesting, admittedly.
I mean, that's basically what Thanos was in Infinity War, no?
But of course he says it like he WANTS to see an obvious stomp.
@@wingedbluj1674 I mean, I wouldn't mind seeing a fight where the hero, seeing that the villain is considerably stronger than him, uses his wits to defeat the villain.

My biggest issue is the statement “God loves everyone” but they claim that people in the LGBTQ+ community are going to hell. One of my closest friends/crush is pansexual and one of the most kind, honourable, and caring person I have ever met. His Christian mother on the other hand is the exact definition of hypocritical and entitled. So, yeah. I have issues with other Christians as well and I respect your decision on being an aethist as long as you respect that my beliefs are my own. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
*Atheist
Also, from the stand-up that is Patton Oswalt:
"You’ve gotta respect everyone’s beliefs."
No, you don’t. That’s what gets us in trouble. Look, you have to acknowledge everyone’s beliefs, and then you have to reserve the right to go: "That is fucking stupid. Are you kidding me?" I acknowledge that you believe that, that’s great, but I’m not going to respect it.
