And what exactly is HDRi and does it work? These are questions we try to find the answers to in this video on what just might be one of the best monitors you haven't heard of.

    I have an older BenQ model with one of their first iterations of HDRi, and what blew me away was plugging in a nintendo switch and seeing how well it did with the simulated HDR turned on. Also, the speakers are awesome because you can plug in an external bluray player and watch movies on it without necessarily needing to turn on the PC at all. Great review Sarah. Might actually upgrade my old one to the curved one :D

    Wow….I legit learned alot from this! Coming from someone who just plugs in a HDMI and plays on a PS4 lol. Her whole setup I have to admit is almost intimidating to me. So much attention to detail on each component is something I’ve never dived deep in on. This has definitely opened my eyes to just how much is out there and it’s time for me to do some upgrading.

      Hi Andrew, From my personal experience I have the BenQ EX2510 Mobiuz. I never used the HDR or HDRi function when it was connected to the PC as I had no interest. But since having an Xbox series X I just leave the normal "HDR" mode on all the time, (Brightness 80/Contrast 60) In Far Cry 6 with the lighting, vegetation a other scenery it looks far better than the "Standard" mode which I've calibrated. The color's look a lot better without over saturation :)

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He'll love it! You're a good parent. If he has eye strain and migraines, there are also browsers that help filter out the bad light too. I would also recommend not using HDR and also turn the brightness down. By the way, the xbox X is also great at 4K resolutions so down the line when there are more 4K curved monitors available, that will be the ultimate for him. Take care!

    Watched your review before pulling the trigger on this monitor. As someone upgrading from a cheap ACER TN 1080p panel.. Wow. BenQ revived gaming for me. Absolutely zero eye strain; the curvature is amazing. This monitor is higher quality than my TV! The contrast ratio is insane. The ONLY issue is black smearing. Its rarely noticeable, but when it is.. It's very clear. Example game with horrible black smearing: Enter The Gungeon.. But it's a VA panel what are ya gonna do.

    Issues with VA is the pixel colour change lag, noticeable on dark colours! You get bad smearing on darker colours when moving quickly
    My latest two curved monitors were VA as they mainly are, look great and no tearing cos of freesync but something kept feeling like there was a subtle motion blur. I never got that on my old basic IPS panel (though lots of tearing due to 60hz no free sync)
    Finding a curved IPS is hard but benQ released this line of monitors in IPS now too and due to being IPS there is no pixel smearing in fast motion, I’ve ordered one so hopefully the reviews of the IPS version are correct 👌

But overall, when I had the frames locked in step with the refresh rate, I didn't notice it at all. Maybe I got lucky with a great panel, but my hope is that advertised 1ms moving picture response time has something to do with it.

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I didn't have to create content, I'd choose the TV because it's more flexible in how and where I can sit and just relax. But when recording, the monitor is really important. The one weakness as of now for the PS5 is that it doesn't have native 1440p output but the xbox does.

Never had any problems with either one and yeah, the colors are great on BenQ monitors. Also 27" is the sweet spot to me on monitors: good for story/pretty games and also for first person shooters where you don't want your HUD far away from your aimpoint so you're not looking all over he place to take in all the info you need. Hi, great review! Can you say something about black-level smearing that has been common with VA panels?

      I only noticed it just once during and this was when I first tested it and during when the monitor was at the highest refresh rate of 165hz but the PC had an unlocked frame rate. I think this is when most monitors might get into problems, when the frame rate and refresh rate are out of sync. But overall, when I had the frames locked in step with the refresh rate, I didn't notice it at all. There a few caveats though, one is maybe I got lucky with my panel, and also my eyes aren't the best LOL. On a TV with non HDR you can manually set it manually to look like your old LCDtv screen is in HDR if you can adjust the highest contrast like in Dynamic. So if your LCDtv has HDR it will set it for you on one click enable..

    The eye strains and headache are because of PWM dimming, or better explained: lack of true flicker-free technology. I'm very sensitive to that and if you have a headache, it could be because of lack of flickerfree tech. You could test it using your smartphone camera. • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't actually tried to yet, however 2.0 should be good enough in theory for up to 1440p. Just not 4k. In theory, it should be able to go up to 165hz at 1440p (but the PS5 only does 120hz anyway).

      It’s great for darker scenes, the black levels are much better on a VA panel like this one. If you do get something else I’d recommend getting a VA panel as long as you don’t change positions when watching too much

    Offering your own health for a YT channel.... hmmmm, one of my family members has severe migraines, I am not sure if testing to see if you get a migraine should be considered, even if it is for a monitor. I am a big gamer and I get up once an hour, pausing the game and thinking about strategies while I walk around :-) Otherwise, this is a different, very fresh, approach to testing a monitor, good feedback on the details.

    Sarah, I am looking at purchasing this unit right away as it's on sale $499.99 (from $699.99) but need to know ONE thing. Was the 1000R Curve TOO curved? I'm coming from a Dell 27" 1500R VA Panel and am scared the 1000R is too much! Did you notice it? This seems too good to pass up. Let me know please, thanks! xD

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's hard to answer because I'm not sure what might be too curved for you. But speaking from my own personal experience, I've never had a curved monitor and for me, I really liked the curve of it. I didn't think it was too much. It was easy on the eyes and had a very "pleasant" feeling. If you mean physically, it does require more desk space and is deeper, so maybe check the measurements and then measure the desk it will go on to give you an idea. I think I put in an overhead shot in the video. Good luck!

      @@SnaxanGaming I heard 1000R is an "aggressive curve" but it's closer to the natural curvature of your eye. I'm taking the dive and trying it out, thanks for your quick reply, much appreciated. 🙏 Great vid btw! ☺️

    Would you say it’s worth paying more buck for the Ben q 0R over a cheaper monitor like the Samsung G5?

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't need the speakers, if HDR is not a priority, if you play mostly in a darker room (meaning you don't need the extra brightness) and if you don't mind the 13% slower refresh rate, I think the Samsung makes better sense at the current prices. Prices will continue to drop though and I think if the Benq came within $100 it's a better buy easily.

    • @henrieastern
      @henrieastern 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried the Samsung G7? both the Benq 0R and Samsung G7 - 27 stand roughly at the same price point, the G7 being slightly more. Which monitor would you recommend out of the two Sarah ? 👍🏼

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@henrieastern I tried them all. If money wasn’t a factor then I’d go with the BenQ. I like the g7 more than the g5 even at the higher price point though. You can find the g7 on sale sometimes at 499 at that’s price I’d go for that. my favorite monitor right now (best one for console gamers) is the LG Ultragear GP950 (not to be confused with the GN950) but I wish it was curved. It has hdmi 2.1 and can do 4k 120hz and higher

    Hey do you think this is better than your predator monitor????

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's apples and oranges. The predator does 4K at 144hz while the Mobiuz is a 1440p with a nice curve. They both serve their different purposes. To be honest I don't use the predator anymore, I use an LG ultragear GP950 for 4K it's a great monitor. For 1440p curved I've moved on and now use the Alienware QD OLED ultra wide 34". It's probably the best monitor I've ever used, if you want to spend the $$ on it you can't go wrong. The Mobiuz though, if you can get it at a good I highly recommend it, it's really great. It retails at $600 but I've seen it drop to aroundf $375 sometimes and at that price I think it's really worth it. If you need 4K 144hz you'll have to go with an ultragear or similar. I saw your other comment though about headaches, the BENQ really did help me but it might be different for each person. Good luck!

    Have you ever experienced proper HDR - 1000nits or greater?

    • @SnaxanGaming
      @SnaxanGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen it on the samsung models a few times. My LG OLED peaks at about 750 nits but to be honest I think the HDR looks better on the LG especially since it's in a light controlled room. The true blacks and the contract ratios really stand out and in my situation the peak brightness isn't as much as a factor.

    • @Michael-Ray
      @Michael-Ray 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SnaxanGaming True. I have an LG OLED as well which peaks at 750 nits and anything brighter, although impressive, can cause eye strain especially when viewing in a dark room. The only drawback of current OLEDs is that their full screen brightness is underwhelming at around 175 nits. I remember playing Far Cry 5 on my OLED and the cutscene with Faith Seed where the whole screen starts turning white (to simulate entering the light) was disappointingly dull compared to the 1800 nits full screen white flash on the Asus PG32UQX IPS monitor.
