Loved this video, thanks for sharing your favorite varieties. The choices seem endless! Last year I grew a heatmaster from transplant, it was ok. This year I'm growing Tiny Tim (at the suggestion of you and CaliKim), patio choice yellow, Roma, and Ace 55. I just picked up a green zebra from your seed shop so I'll throw that in as well.
Tiny Time is productive. I like them split and mixed in a vinegar and oil dressing, then poured on the salad. Green Zebra is now a keeper on my list. Thanks for the order too. I adore green tomatoes, and always include at least one variety, usually Aunt Ruby’s. In addition, multi colors of cherry tomatoes which are dehydrated for snacks and tossing into soups, stews, etc. I have yet to find a red beefsteak variety that I really like the taste of, as so many are meaty but flavorless. I will have to just keep trying new ones! Any suggestions?
None on the beef but I love the green zebra. Please Ring the Bell (next to subscribe) to get immediate real-time video notifications & Please check out The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop for all your gardening needs: www.therustedgarden.com
Since you save your seeds, do you have to worry about cross-pollination with your tomatoes planted so close? I always put different varieties of peppers in different parts of the garden. I have a row of Cherokee purple tomatoes that are by themselves, away from other tomatoes, because I save seeds from them. I'm not sure if I have to though.
It can happen but tomatoes are self pollinating so it is rare. You have to take precautions for them NOT to pollinate when you are actually trying to self pollinate. Just wondering when I could start my tomatoes indoor with a grow light ,then I will put them outside as my husband is going to make me that tomatoe cage that you posted the other day I will put them in there so just need to know when to start my seeds and when would they go into tunnel cage like, you built
Probably depends on where you live, when the last frost is. I live in Georgia and start tomatoes no later than Valentines day. I think this year I'll start them around the 7th of Feb.
So timing varies but you time it for the ground outdoors to be 50 degrees F or higher. And then count back 6-8 weeks. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve only grow Tiny Tim out of all that is on your list. I don’t like it because it dies off as what I mentioned. The fruits are yummy though ☺️ What do u think of purple Cherokee? I just started them

Love this compilation. Also - love the shots of these sliced open. Thank you. If you had to be limited to just one tomato - could you name it? I don't think I could. Now, I am hungry for a home-grown tomato sandwich. Come on Spring!
I couldnt. Id have to go with 1 cherry, 1 slicer, 1 large for a start but I am not sure what I would pick,

Thank you so much for this video. It really helped in deciding what varieties I may want to plant this year. Thanks again Gary!😊🍅
Glacier not only produces early but is cold tolerant, so you get tomatoes extra early.
It is a good one

i eralize i have the seeds for the glacier tomato. i wasnt thinking about planting it, but now you got me wondering if it really would be a good pick this year. does this tomato basically have a classic cherry tomato taste?
So it produces early. It is not as good as the classic cherry but the taste is there. lol but is it so hard to describe taste.

You should try "little italy" dwarf type. Oh they're so good and they're tough little buggers! Here in Alberta, I had them outside, they survived well and produced really really well. Huge producer as well.
Thanks so much!

Excellent, how about black beauty and cherokee purple?
Why aren't you trying Dwarf Tomato Project tomatoes? Like Adelaide Festival, etc? No maintenance, short, PRETTY, and nice flavor.
Actually I have Dwarfs growing for a project this year

Hi,
What size container are you planting those indeterminate tomatoes in? Looks like the containers from Lowes or Home Depot (5 gal?).
Thank you
Question do you sell the seeds of the tomatoes you profiled? I would like to try some of them that are suitable for container growing. Thanks
Some. The seeds come and go in and out of stock. Tiny Tims, Homstead, Black Krim are there. Others too but I can recall.

What about the Big Zack tomato ? I first saw yours when CaliKim came to visit. I live in North Central Florida, do you think they would grow here in zone 9a h do you sell these seeds or do you know who does ?
I dont sell them. I grew them that year and they were cool. I am looking for more productive plants for sauce. Your heat might beat it up.

None on the beef but I love the green zebra.

so what do you seed start this early in the yr?
Brassicas!
Bryan got below, brassicas, cold weather crops, perennial herbs and flowers an I started onions and leeks.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Thankyou, I watch all of your videos

I just started them
Glad to share. I love the Cherokee. For Tims... stagger start them so the new plants replace the dyeing ones, since they are determinate varieties.

Last year my tomatoes got stung up really badly by leaf footed bugs. Any pointers on how to combat those?
I have not had that issue. But I would pick a dust you feel safe with and dust early.
