You have no idea how grateful I am that you put subtitles in, I have a huge tendency to get distracted if subtitles aren't on the screen but yours have them and I can watch the entire video without getting distracted! Thank you for that, I really appreciate it.
Especially because we're getting exact text as opposed to auto generated. So I too appreciate it. My kids have made it so I can't hear unless there are words to read along to.
You have quickly become one of my favorite gaming creators on here, rivaling civvie, mandalore, grimbeard, and sean seanson. The distinctly laid back vibe you always bring to your videos and oftentimes niche Japanese games you cover gives you a pretty distinct voice that stands out among your contemporaries. Keep up the great work man!
That’s huge. I mean, I love all of those creators and have taken inspiration from them, so it’s not a competition for me. But thanks for the kind words.
Check out Marsh for more obscure stuff. He mostly does SMT but also some rpg maker games. His newest is a super unknown ps1 horror game called Hellnight
I love knowing about these channels, even the few mentioned i haven't heard. What i love MOST is that I'm the kind of person who can appreciate them at the high level
@@dungeonchill Dude it's awesome how fast your channel, and for that matter all the top notch video essay guys channels have been growing lately, some awesome synergy there, keep it up man!
This and the guy who makes those history of Ultima documentary/development/retrospective combo videos are some of the most interesting videos I've ever seen. I never swipe these videos away, either saving them to a playlist or watching them at once!
Whenever I see a notification telling me you released another video, I get a rush of joy and excitement. Hearing you and ur thoughts about obscure wild games has been my favorite thing to watch on my free time
ahhhh another great vid, thanks dungeon! bcv is SO WILD and was def my fave part that you covered! the character design felt so nostalgic and familiar; lo and behold, it was motomiya hiroshi! i never actually read any of his stuff but his style is so iconic
Just wanna say you have the perfect blend of pacing and humor, two qualities that I find are key for long-form video essays that mainly focus on horror/thriller/mystery games, especially for the more convoluted stories. You, Noah Caldwell Gervais, and eurothug4000 are my main rotation that makes day-to-day work bearable. So thank you! The quality and speed of which you churn these videos out are amazing (be careful of burnout!)
It always makes me happy when you post a new vid although I often can't watch the whole things straight away. Artdink sure did make some interesting games but I suppose thePS1 era was like the wild west.
This was a fun change of pace! Always nice to find out I’ll have something to watch during my workday. I was surprised to see “A Long Vacation” in this video - I just got a copy on vinyl for my birthday this year! Perhaps I should check out those other records you listed. Great work as always!
I've yet to watch a video of yours that I didn't thoroughly and completely enjoy and gobble up in a single sitting. I'm so very happy that I finally joined your Patreon, not only to give you the support you so absolutely deserve but also because now I get to watch even more of your stuff! I truly hope you never stop reviewing and telling me about games, developers or trivia I've never heard of or, at best, have barely a clue about. Thank you so much for all the amazing quality content!
It's amazing seeing some love for Artdink. Lunatic Dawn, particularly Passage of the Book (which can be patched into English) really deserves its own video.
whenever I see PS1 and underwater I think of Divers Dream (dolphin dream in Japan) it's a Diving RPG on the PS1 which revolved around exploring a fake titanic for some crown jewels. It was somehow the calmest and most scariest game of my childhood and pushed me to try and become a underwater archaeologist
This video is a vibe and shows why i love your channel. Love underwater exploration and in general anything ocean related. Idk, the ocean is nice to see irl and in games.
I absolutely love this style of covering various games of a certain developer. It really got me interested in trying some of them. Thanks for this great video.
It's about to be 8am where i live and i was so bored, then i saw you uploaded and now I have an hour and a half of high quality content to enjoy. Thank you for your service Dungeon!
Lunatic dawn 3 reminds me a lot of an indie diablo-like arpg series called Din's curse and Din's legacy the first one you start on a procedurally generated town, with procedurally generated quests, with a sprawling underworld dungeon second one has an overworld too and factions Hell, that dev tends to do nothing but weird hybrid games like this, another of their notable series is Drox Operative... where you play a single ship/pilot inside a 4x strategy game being played by the AI.
Ps1 games just have that "X" factor for me. It feels like it's own pocket universe. It immediately pulls me back into my youth. Living out in the country, with my bedroom window open. Playing parasite eve, bushido blade, soul blade, final fantasy tactics ect...
I recently discovered your channel and I simply devour them all, thanks for the amazing work and for talking about hidden gem videos games, I will watching your new video now. Greetings from Belgium.
One glaring thing I'm surprised you didn't bring up when talking about A-Train is that Maxis licensed it out for a DOS release in the west prior to the ps1 game alongside a few other Japanese simulation titles like Yoot Tower.
I feel like my life has changed somehow for now having learned of Battle Construction Vehicles. I can't say if it's for the better, but uh, somehow I feel in your debt.
game grumps has played a lot of art dink games and after watching this video i want them to play even more omg. i can't believe all of these vastly different games are the same company. like they're all weird but not in identical ways? lol
Really cool to not only see these dream-like underwater exploration games, but just to get a feel for what the developer was making around the time of each game's release, very cool!
Damn 30 minutes since it was posted and I get to be here to watch it and give immediate feedback. I know I’m gonna love it because I ❤️ Dungeon Chill-flavored retrospectives. And it’s an obscure pick by Artdink! Thanks for all the great content - it puts me in better spirits through these hard days.
This was a good video Chill. Different from most of your videos but love the layout of it. You are really killing it man, i have been here since 500 subs and i am forever greatful that the 'rithm brought me to you.
I'm a huge fan of transport sims and city builders generally, and I genuinely think A-Train is the best transport sim series out there. Yes, the UI is a huge pain and the mechanics are unintuitive and poorly explained, but once you get over the initial difficulty spike there's a sense of place and purpose in those games that other transport sims can't even approach. Watching the last train depart along a long rural line and knowing exactly how long the commute is for everyone living in the little villages out there, seeing them grow little shops and cafés, even seeing it head back to the depot during daylight in summer but at night in winter, while all the big city trains keep running late into the night... It's a super unique experience. It's fascinating to see Artdink explore a lot of the same ideas in other genres. They make a lot of games where the world is something you can inhabit and interact with and explore, but it's not there entirely for you. Real cozy uplifting exploratory chillout-athons.
Whoa BCV was not something I ever expected to see. I am not surprised as a Japanese game but it is still something I never knew should exist. Thank you for elevating my life.
A single mention of Endless Ocean has brought a twisting in my gut. I dream to experience the first and Blue World once again. So many memories of one of the very few games I randomly think about at least once a year.
was literally just thinking "I'm in the mood for some DC, let me rewatch some old vids" and saw this was up the downside is that underwater levels scare the shit out of me, always have. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite games ever and I've replayed it so many times, but the submarine parts literally make me want to cry. I can't go into the crashed gelnika if I'm alone in the house
These Aquanaut's Holiday games give me a specific vibe from watching them here. Anyone else remember that Demo Disc that came with the PS1's launch? Along with some game verticle slices, it had two 3D graphics demonstrations you could interact with to show off the console's power. One was a T-Rex running in a dark void, the other was a Manta Ray in an endless blue ocean. I farted around with the latter for hours. Strange to be reminded of so specific a vibe from such specific a time.
Hi, awesome video as always mr. Dungeon Keeper. You mentioned GEX as being in that same category as your almost-core-memory-caveman-game, and I thought that it would be SO cool to see you make an episode on it, I mean GEX for PS1.
