Oh this is actually a lot like what I imagined the fletching table doing in my mind, it's nice to see what this would look like in-game. There were a few other ideas I had that might be possible: Echo shards or eye of ender could be used to make homing arrows Gunpowder to make exploding arrows (don't damage the terrain, similar to fireworks) Potions and glowstone (being able to craft tipped and spectral arrows from the fletching table would make sense) Fire charge to make arrows actually able to light blocks on fire (as opposed to the flame enchant which mostly just sets entities on fire) still a really cool thing to see though

I heard in 3 or 4 years we'll get eels, so I don't wanna hear anyone complain about updates being slow anymore. Microsoft works really hard at telling Mojang they can't add new content to the game, and you need to respect them.
I tried to make a fletching pack with custom arrows a long time ago, but this easily outperforms it by a lot. The GUI in a fletching table was something I wasn't sure how to do, but I guess with a texture pack, turning the minecart into a custom GUI works pretty well. The arrows are also very cool. Awesome work!
I ended up using a barrel that’s covered by a block display entity. Barrels make it easy to detect when the player closes the gui to give them their items back.
Can we just appreciate how well edited this video is? The minecraft book in the corner explaining the stuff is such a cozy way of doing these videos. And that teleportation arrow that hit the player and sent them to the next part of the video was absolutely golden!. Chefs kiss.
I've seen mods & other Datapacks attempt to make the fletching table mechanics but are just not balanced at all! Not only is this balance but has utility & fun factor elements for players! I love this!
This is such a great mod! The sound design is amazing and the arrows would fit right into vanilla. I especially love the slime arrows, they allow for lots of creativity. You didn't directly portray this in the video, but I imagine you can do some cool new stuff by launching these arrows from dispensers. The new bows feel much less like a vanilla addition and more like a 'modded minecraft' addition, you don't see many direct upgrades to existing tools like that in the current game. I feel like Mojang would opt for purely cosmetic changes like bow trims or string color instead of effects like the arrows already have. The crafting menu could have been made to look more like the smithing table or anvil, with one input and one output and requiring only one resource for each upgrade. That's what I would do, but it's your mod so you're free to do what you want. Still, though, awesome mod!
These arrows and bows are super cool! I always see folks go "but how would you even make new bows or arrows?" When discussions about making the fletching table do something pop up, but this video proves just how much actual potential is here.
The fact that this is a datapack and not a mod is incredibly impressive. Alsothe torch arrows are so well made with how the lighting fades and spreads. Absolutely amazing.
I think torch arrows should places torches on impact, consuming the arrow, and new glowstone should work like the current torch arrow. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing!
This concept is amazing. I think my favorites are the Torch Arrow and the Wind Bow, out of all of the ones you used in the video those two feel the most impactful in how they change the game. Prismarine Arrows are also a great concept.
If the number of arrows crafted was bumped from 4 to 8, i think it would make more sense, as things like slimeballs and prismarine to give your arrows special effects wouldnt be worth it unless you have a copious amount of the given resource. Also, the void bow teleporting randomly has no practical use really, it should teleport mobs AWAY from you, like a panic button.
Great content! It leaves such a big creative liberty, like, i can think of at least 3 other concepts: an arrow made with ender pearls swap places of target and user (if hitting an entity, if not, just teleports them) an arrow made with echo shards casts a sonic boom instead, acting like a laser with limited range an arrow made with phantom membrane or something to make it immune to gravity
@@ll3ifost485 agreed, mojang should work on bringing together everything they’ve added so far, making the game feel connected and planned. I think your data pack has great potential because you can tell how much effort you put into that aspect of giving more utility to forgotten items, that’s what we need.
I like how there is more strategy in bow and arrow combo. Like a copper how and amethyst arrow sniper. Do you have any plans for crossbows? Also, if you wanted ideas for the 3 cosmetic bows, I have a few: -The weeping bow could push a target away -The crimson bow could pull a target towards you (as the two grow in opposite directions and are vines so could grapple) -The bone bow could have no concept of a crit but instead it's damage could be constant, so quick, short range shots would be a viable strategy
Really cool arrow ideas!! Some ideas I’ve had are Stone arrows, which deal up to 3x more damage to armor’s durability, and Obsidian arrows which ignore armor by 50% These would have to have some downsides obviously but I know you can continue to expand on the fletching table and it’ll be amazing!!
Being able to make tipped arrows in the fletching table is such a no brainer. This whole datapack is genius. I think being able to put whole arrows into the table and adding on things like torches would be a great way to balance this out with existing features so thay nothing is redundant
I think it'd be cool if torch arrows lit enemies on fire, and flame (enchantment) arrows also created light. Torch arrows would essentially be a weaker early game version flame.
I love this idea, I think that 4 things may be improved/added: Amethyst Arrows- Replace the current effect with fracturing shards on contact. in other words when the arrows land on a block they will make a couple shards that shoot out (AOE), but if the arrows hit a mob they will shoot 3 shards that keep the initial arrows momentum and pierce mobs. Firework Arrows- These arrows do not arc/they fly straight for the duration of the Firework, if the arrow finds a target before the Firework burns out it'll cause an explosion similar to the crossbow. Void Bow- Either replace the current effect with each arrows it shoots creates puddles of dragons breath when landing or the user teleporting to the arrows when they land. Wave Bow- Made from a Heart of the Sea + Wind Bow. The arrows shot from this bow deal medium knockback, remove 2.5 shanks of breath from the entity hit, and strike lightning on crits (only during rain or thunder).
I like the idea of adding arrows with distinct functions, but not so much adding different kinds of bows with different functions. Changing the way a piece of equipment works on a fundamental level based on the materials you use to craft it is not something vanilla has ever done, so it’s anti-vanilla (undesirable if you want to stay vanilla friendly). But arrows that have different effects is something that is already in the game with potion arrows. The ender bows functionality could be replaced by arrows crafted from end rods and ender pearls or chorus fruit. The wind bows functionality can be replaced by making so the wind burst enchantment can be placed on arrows (I always love adding preexisting enchantments to equipment it currently doesn’t go, provided it makes sense). Rather than functionally different bows, it should just be cosmetic which would be a fun addition. Also gotta add a quiver for all those different arrow types. A bundle but for arrows specifically and with a dedicated inventory slot like the shield.
This is awesome!! Maybe there could also be something for the crossbow? The problem with that would be the space on the UI Anyway, maybe a compound bow could be added? Crafted with a stick and tripwire hooks on the sides, it could pierce through mobs
I think maybe a separate block could be made from the fletching table that is rather for the crossbow. No item really has 2 menus so probably making it 2 blocks would be the best option.
@TJ-hg6op I mean, instead of new crossbows maybe it could upgrade the base one, like adding more techy stuff than what you would do to a bow, like the scoped crossbow, like, just a [ ] + [ ] --> [ ] Idk, this is just some brain fart I kinda got, apart from a scoped crossbow, my only ideas cosmetics based on mc dungeons, and maybe a grappling hook I just know that crossbows have so much potential, but I can't really think of many ideas now
Wow, I never thought someone would have the same idea of making the fletching table an exclusive block for you to craft different types of arrows. Amazing job dude, big W
THIS ive seen alot of great ideas to add in minecraft in general but this one is one of the greatest idea good job i love it seems so fitting and right(edit: i do want to add that the bow ideas arent the best i think the most fitting is the bone bow)
I love how you’re able to take disparate crafting pieces that are used in only one or two recipes, like the prismarine shard or the iron nugget, and use them here to add interesting and balanced types of arrows to the game. Sometimes i wish mojang worked with what they had a little bit, and you do it excellently here
I can see them adding everything but the torch arrow since that light rendering looked complex but what do I know. This is awesome, I wish they’d add it!
You could also add other types of arrows that use breeze and blaze rods to craft them. Letting these new more expensive arrow types have even more unique properties, like auto-targeting mobs, or exploding on impact
Great idea and work! Custom bows is something they'll probably never add in vanilla, but I could see the arrows existing in some future. They would definetely make you put an arrow and a material, instead of crafting the arrows from 0 directly in the fletching table.
this is really really cool - i'd love to see any ideas you have for crossbows, too! i tend to gravitate towards those instead of bows so i think it'd be really cool to see them get some love :]
A good idea would be for the iron arrows to be heavier (more loading time) and stronger while the gold ones are faster but weaker, this data pack is absolutely amazing and I love it maintains a vanilla style, keep it up man this is incredible
im not sure how or why, but every time i come up with some idea im sure would be amazing, i write it down in my little notes app... and then a week later, you come out with a video thats basically what i made but better. youre in my brain with these, keep it up.
I have thought about this exact arrow GUI before, the implementation here is stellar! I would also love to see how changing the stick and feather slots could create interesting arrow combinations. Perhaps swapping a stick out for a blaze rod, breeze rod, bamboo, etc. could give the arrow unique effects separate from the tip? Great datapack work here!
This is really cool, the only thing I could think of (aside from normal ballance changes) would be to the double regular arrow crafting amount in the table.
I’d use this data pack for the torch arrow alone! With massive caverns they’ve always seemed like mob spawning death traps, at least now there is a way to light up the cave before the problem becomes unreasonable!
more ideas for the data pack: fletching templates- is an item found in Pillager outpost and bastion remnants it can be duplicated like smithing templates but will give you eight instead of two this item is required to craft these arrows copper arrow- these arrows summon thunderbolts giving chain damage to nearby mobs reworked amethyst arrows- after the arrow hits a mob it emits an additional sparkling attack invulnerability removal- the removal of the invulnerability frames. already exist in the combat test snapshot and can benefit arrows like amethyst arrows where you can stack its sparkling effect with multishot now I know this is a data pack and I'm not sure if you can remove the invulnerability state when being hit by projectiles if not possible I think it would be better if the sparkling attack from the amethyst arrow triggers after each invulnerability state
Wow this is so cool! I really like the editing on this video. I like how there's no music and you use the book and quill to tell us things. And I especially liked the map with banners to mark the arrows flight distance
I would have made the wind bow shoot much faster and have a better draw time, but be wildly less accurate, and moved its current effect to an arrow, and maybe modified the torch arrows recipe to use coal/charcoal for the arrowhead, but other than that I have no notes. Really cool design!
i love this! but it still reminds me of how useless the fletching table is… if they added this to vanilla and you can only make these new arrows in the table, then you can never autocraft them in a crafter. if you CAN autocraft them, then you have no need for the fletching table. still, this is by far the best idea for it i’ve ever seen
i would probably customize the sticks and feathers used for the arrows to maybe add more variation like the prismarine arrow probably could actually replace the feather with prismarine rather than the head (because prismarine looks like a fin :D) and maybe blaze or breeze rods could replace the stick and do something
Make the slime arrow function into a bow so you could have jumpy arrows with effects, and wind burst bow into an arrow, so that its "only on crit" mechanic can synergise with elite power bow. Cool stuff!
this is sooo good, theres no reason why this shouldn't be in vanilla (Apart from the iron arrow, its seems too similar to a normal arrow to me.) These ideas are soooo creative! Mojang MUST hire u
Great job! I think you should just add a bursting arrow to do the same effect but with other bows with different effects. Added with the bow it will launch way higher.
I can see a good potential on this pack. For me what it lacks is the CombatTest Snapshot bow "Wobble" mechanic, with this it does punish players for holding the bow for too long, and Gold Arrows help that issue as it doesn't get affected by Bow Wobble
love this. i've wanted something like torch arrows for so long! i'd love it if spectral arrows just illuminated their surroundings. they cause the glowing effect after all! but as a simple status effect they're kinda useless it would be cool if you could craft arrows with different sticks or feathers too, and like combine different modifiers. the tip could determine the contact effect, the feather could determine the flight trajectory, and the shaft could determine something like in-flight effect - for example a blaze rod shaft could create a trail of fire. all that being said, i don't really have any ideas for feather substitutes. oh also that copper bow would be way to unbalanced for PVP imo
This is so cool! I've been working on a similar concept but have been struggling, how did you make the GUI function with the Fletching Table using a datapack?
Mojang should add these kinds of ideas in some kind of sky update that adds different birds with different types of feathers that affect things like speed and precision of arrow.
It would be cool to have a trip wire arrow and can leave a trail and it's effects can be combined with tipped arrows to apply the effect when you step on the trail it leaves behind. Would do crazy synergy with slime, spectral arrows and multishot enchant on crossbow
Would be really cool for a spyglass bow to be craftable, using a spyglass in the middle of the fletching table. Some Sort of “sniper bow” to make combo with amethyst arrows. Anyways, great vid.
imo the bow balancing needs a bit of rework, the copper bow feels way too cheap for what it does and you have no reason to use normal bow anymore, same with the nether bows because you can obtain copper way before going into the nether so weeping and twisting bows will never be used, maybe swap copper ingots for copper blocks because it's basically the most common ore anyway, and the void bow feels like it's the most expensive bow but all it does is making you lose your target, wind bow just feels stronger for this reason, other than that it just feels like they're too strong for the amount of resources you need, compared to for example a netherite sword for which you need 2 diamonds, 4 netherite scraps, 4 gold ingots and a netherite upgrade also 1 more thing, considering how many types of arrows there are it'd be cool to add something like a quiver to swap between arrows faster, and maybe make it take up the chestplate slot since archers don't fight in melee
i really like the different ideas for the arrow upgrades! though i think some of the bows can be pretty hit or miss (pun totally intended). i personally think it'd make more sense if all the abilities pertained to the arrows and the bows could be upgraded to do things like increase shot distance or durability
There are so many permutations of this idea, yet this is probably the best one I've seen.
Agreed

Wow this is so cool! I really like the editing on this video. I like how there's no music and you use the book and quill to tell us things. And I especially liked the map with banners to mark the arrows flight distance
Dude you have so many good ideas with Data packs. Like all of your datapacks are a must have for any modpack.
Oh hey, this is something I thought of awhile back.
Well executed. Very nice
I like this so much it fits so well in vanilla Minecraft it looks very balanced
I would have made the wind bow shoot much faster and have a better draw time, but be wildly less accurate, and moved its current effect to an arrow, and maybe modified the torch arrows recipe to use coal/charcoal for the arrowhead, but other than that I have no notes. Really cool design!
I've always refused adding datapacks to my survival world. but this is so good, from now on i will play with this datapack turned on.
such an underrated youtuber. please keep up the good work
Wait this is actually sick
I’ve seen a lot of talk about how Minecraft should have a Crafting Update. This idea is amazing and I think it would for right in!
This is perfect, adding a place to add the tipped effects would make it complete. Perhaps also a crossbow option, could be a separate block.
Wow! Making this with datapacks is impressive!
i love this! but it still reminds me of how useless the fletching table is… if they added this to vanilla and you can only make these new arrows in the table, then you can never autocraft them in a crafter. if you CAN autocraft them, then you have no need for the fletching table. still, this is by far the best idea for it i’ve ever seen
i would probably customize the sticks and feathers used for the arrows to maybe add more variation
like the prismarine arrow probably could actually replace the feather with prismarine rather than the head (because prismarine looks like a fin :D)
and maybe blaze or breeze rods could replace the stick and do something
the sound of crafting arrows is VERY satisfying
It amazes me that this is a datapack
Make the slime arrow function into a bow so you could have jumpy arrows with effects, and wind burst bow into an arrow, so that its "only on crit" mechanic can synergise with elite power bow. Cool stuff!
this is sooo good, theres no reason why this shouldn't be in vanilla (Apart from the iron arrow, its seems too similar to a normal arrow to me.) These ideas are soooo creative! Mojang MUST hire u
Great job! I think you should just add a bursting arrow to do the same effect but with other bows with different effects. Added with the bow it will launch way higher.
Imagine the echo arrows
I can see a good potential on this pack.
For me what it lacks is the CombatTest Snapshot bow "Wobble" mechanic, with this it does punish players for holding the bow for too long, and Gold Arrows help that issue as it doesn't get affected by Bow Wobble
love this. i've wanted something like torch arrows for so long! i'd love it if spectral arrows just illuminated their surroundings. they cause the glowing effect after all! but as a simple status effect they're kinda useless
it would be cool if you could craft arrows with different sticks or feathers too, and like combine different modifiers. the tip could determine the contact effect, the feather could determine the flight trajectory, and the shaft could determine something like in-flight effect - for example a blaze rod shaft could create a trail of fire. all that being said, i don't really have any ideas for feather substitutes.
oh also that copper bow would be way to unbalanced for PVP imo
I instantly knew the video was good when I didn't see a profile picture
The torch arrow is just, genius
This is so cool! I've been working on a similar concept but have been struggling, how did you make the GUI function with the Fletching Table using a datapack?
It uses a barrel with a block display entity covering it. Then a lot of commands for the crafting logic and preventing any item duplication.
@@ctkrocks oooooh, that does sound quite complex and difficult though. Still, incredible results!
@@ctkrocks Would you mind if I borrowed some of these concepts for a plugin I'm working on?
@@LOLSflint sure, no problem
This is the best idea I’ve seen for the fletching table, but it still can be replaced by a crafting table and work the same
Mojang should add these kinds of ideas in some kind of sky update that adds different birds with different types of feathers that affect things like speed and precision of arrow.
Hopefully this shows people how powerful datapacks can be. And with the new updates giving us more data-driven features, we can do even more.
Omg this is awesome, I am definitely downloading this for my worlds!
Anyways, great vid.
imo the bow balancing needs a bit of rework, the copper bow feels way too cheap for what it does and you have no reason to use normal bow anymore, same with the nether bows because you can obtain copper way before going into the nether so weeping and twisting bows will never be used, maybe swap copper ingots for copper blocks because it's basically the most common ore anyway, and the void bow feels like it's the most expensive bow but all it does is making you lose your target, wind bow just feels stronger for this reason, other than that it just feels like they're too strong for the amount of resources you need, compared to for example a netherite sword for which you need 2 diamonds, 4 netherite scraps, 4 gold ingots and a netherite upgrade
also 1 more thing, considering how many types of arrows there are it'd be cool to add something like a quiver to swap between arrows faster, and maybe make it take up the chestplate slot since archers don't fight in melee
this is so beautiful! my favorite was the torch arrow!
great job & keep up❤
I am struggling to do this with forge, and you made it with a datapack? That's insane.
i really like the different ideas for the arrow upgrades! though i think some of the bows can be pretty hit or miss (pun totally intended). i personally think it'd make more sense if all the abilities pertained to the arrows and the bows could be upgraded to do things like increase shot distance or durability
For being a vanilla like datapack, this one takes the cake
